SchroCat

Hi He didn't really call the editor any names or really attack them, he basically told them to get lost and to stop silly edit warring in a heated way. Granted, Wikipedia doesn't like sweary incivility, but I don't see what benefit a 48 hr block will do, and if anything disrupts his current FAC. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:28, 5 July 2023 ♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:29, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dr. Blofeld, how have you been? It's good to hear from you. I am personally torn at having to block Schro... You mirror my thoughts actually. You're right; Wikipedia doesn't like swear words such as those he used, and that has the potential to turn our editors away from a productive, collaborative experience. This would have been obviously easily handled had Schro not commented at ANI or had just left a note of acknowledgement. But it's easy to say this on my part. I can feel Schro's frustration when faced with arguments on some work that has taken significant effort to reach consensus on.... So, yeah, like I said, I am torn, but have to ensure editors don't feel outright shouted at and attacked, even if the attacking editor is as productive and committed to the project as Schro is. Also, once again, it's good to hear from you. Hope all is well with you... Love, and wishes, Lourdes 06:53, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Film companion

The Civility Barnstar
Thank you Lourdes for overseeing Film companion off of spam blacklist. Many editors take a step back and disengage in the face of friction. I expected you would do the same but you headed the other way around and indeed bore the task upon yourself and saw it thru the end. I have nothing but great praise for you! Thank you once again!

Chamaemelum at ANI

So they can keep editing at Alzheimer's (which is not alternative medicine)? [1] Just checking, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 12:28, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sandy, how are you doing? I evidenced consensus on aspartame and alternative medicine. If you advise, I can re-open the discussion and we can include all medicine topics. Alternatively, we can wait and see if they continue editing disruptively and either block them indefinitely and/or subsequently expand the TBAN to all med topics. You are the expert here, not me -- so your decision would be of prime importance. Good to see you here. Warmly, Lourdes 12:33, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was just checking; it does seem like leaving the discussion open longer would help see if the problems extend beyond alternative medicine into standard medicine like Alzheimer's. I'm willing to wait it out, though, so you don't have to adjust or re-open the topic. I had a nasty week last week (dog nearly died, but came through after all), but this week I should be more patient and able to stay on top of Alzheimer's, and will revisit if the issues continue. We've lost so many medical editors that one is often going it alone on important topics! Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 12:44, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sandy, I am sorry to hear about the dog. I hope he is okay now? Let me know any time I can be of any assistance. Warmly, and with love, Lourdes 13:50, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Follow up app't with vet today -- she didn't die in the woods, 90 miles from nearest vet, which is a good thing :) Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:20, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Lourdes - various editors in the ANI discussion have commented on whether this user was previously indef blocked under a different name. I have encountered similar behavior in past years where a user had a disruptive effect on one topic like aspartame, but simultaneous wide-ranging activity on numerous other medical and non-medical articles and talk pages, and in rapid fashion, making dozens or even hundreds of edits within a few hours, as this user's history shows. (919 edits in the past 7 days; 1763 edits in 30 days)
Could you request a checkuser admin for a forensic look into this user's possible related account history? Is there a way to analyze for multiple-users on one account or SPI that would reveal such apparent wide interest/knowledge of diverse topics? Or whether there is detectable AI involvement?
Thanks for reopening this discussion. I think "there's more that the eye doesn't see" concerning Chamaemelum. Zefr (talk) 18:01, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • I won't do that myself Zefr. Any interested editor can open up a case at SPI. Thanks, Lourdes 04:51, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

urgent unblock request

hi, you have blocked editing rights to the IP range of a whole university because of the activities of one class’s activities. Please reconsider the IP block with the utmost urgency.

As a separate issue, the block on the class’s user account probably also need reconsidering. The account has only ever posted on their own user space for purposes of practice (not a single edit to a Wikipedia page).

Apologies for the lack of signature. My university IP is blocked! 2001:240:242E:3E02:DC27:4BEB:3176:6F4B (talk) 00:24, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi there. Thank you for your message. Requesting your inputs -- What is the IP range/user name? More importantly, what is the nature of this extreme urgency at a university level that access to editing Wikipedia has to be instantly re-opened? Finally, the instructions to request an unblock can be found here. Please follow the same. Thanks, Lourdes 04:49, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ANI

Hey, Lourdes! I have no opinion on whether the Laurel Lodged discussion should have stayed separate or the ANI left open while that part was being discussed, but closing the ANI effectively ended that discussion unresolved, and ArbCom isn't really being asked to deal with it. Do you have any thoughts? Valereee (talk) 15:22, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Valereee, how are you doing. Good to see you here. In my opinion, discussing the same topics on multiple forums would leave both forums undecided on who to give the lead to and where to take the discussion. It's unreasonable for BHG also to be defending on two posts, each requiring hours of potential rumination. Of course, if I recall right, I mentioned in my edit summary that anyone wanting to comment can unarchive the discussion. Thank you for dropping by. Hope your lands are not affected by the extreme heatwaves all across US and Europe. Best, Lourdes 03:41, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We're actually not experiencing more than normal here in Ohio, knock on wood, and same well wishes to you. I see your point for BHG, for sure. I've asked the arbs to consider LL, too, and I see some others have also, so possibly it's moot. Valereee (talk) 11:14, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everything is fine? I am unable to open a Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents because I am not the author of this version, so I personally come to your page.

Well, today I received 4 notifications in the form of thanks from the user RodRabelo7 — including edits of mine from 2010 on Wikimedia Commons. Query

You previously found community consensus to TBAN Okoslavia from closing AfDs at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive1133#Editor behaviour at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shai Benbasat (2nd nomination). Does the TBAN on closing AfDs still allow them to comment at deletion review, which reviews other AfD closes? Generally TBANS would be broadly construed, but I am not sure how a TBAN on closing AFDs would apply. Thanks for your help. VickKiang (talk) 00:05, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi VickKiang, apologies for responding late. Yes, they can comment on deletion reviews. Warmly, Lourdes 14:48, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Right after they got indeffed for Disruptive Editing by you, they posted an unblock request full of polemic content which got declined by 331dot. They started responding with even more polemic stuff on their talk page after the decline, accusing you of "blocking solely due to personal bias". I think it's time to pull their TPA. — Prodraxis {talkcontribs} (she/her) 14:12, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Large-scale slow edit-warring

You warned AzorzaI [2] a month ago for edit-warring after they breached the 3RR. Since then they continue to edit-war every day, though doing it through slow edit-warring to avoid breaching the 3RR. On Battle of Kosovo they have been reverting every single day since August 3, undoing edits by 6 other editors (me included). On Andrea II Muzaka they edit-warred against some editors in July, restarted edit-warring in early August and, after some days of staying away from the article, reverted again yesterday [3]. They also seem to be edit-warring to add warnings to the talk page of an editor they disagree with on the Battle of Kosovo, although the latter has the right to remove any comment from their own talk page [4]. What can be done to prevent AzorzaI from using slow edit-warring to avoid consensus-building paths, disrupt articles, and disrupt other editors' talk pages? Uniacademic (talk) 23:27, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Start a section at ANI if possible. Will get more eyes to this. Thanks, Lourdes 04:44, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Logging community restriction

Hello Lourdes, I was just wondering if you meant to log your XfD Tban of Dronebogus at Wikipedia:Editing_restrictions#Placed_by_the_Wikipedia_community? Thank you, Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 01:21, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Moneytrees for the reminder. Done. Lourdes 07:25, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Lourdes, since you closed the discussion, let me ask a question: One of the things that Tamzin suggested "as a normal qualification" regarding TBANs from XfD was they should allow for a single comment in defense (or not) of an article that a user created or significantly [~25% or more] contributed to. Does the broadly construed TBAN for Dronebogus include that exception, at least to account for the possibility (however remote) of targeting? Or is it a total TBAN with no questions asked? I only ask because I think that is a fair exception so long as it is not abused. Cheerio, WaltClipper -(talk) 12:58, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi WaltCip, how are you doing? Wrt your query, it's a wide TBAN with no exceptions. I hope this answers your query. Please feel free to enquire further if required. Warmly, Lourdes 04:20, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Did I do the right thing here?

Howdy! Was wondering if you'd consider re-opening Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Did I do the right thing here?, which you closed recently? Looks like it was only open for 18 hours. Closing it quickly seems to have left @Clovermoss upset, and has led to an arguably unnecessary T:CENT RFC at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Language at WP:UPNOT. That RFC just seems to be a manifestation of the unresolved issues in the original ANI. Also I hear that the editor mentioned in the original ANI has had a final warning for transphobia before, that was not discovered until after the close and therefore was not able to be mentioned in the ANI. Thanks for your consideration. –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:47, 22 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Follow up on Kinfo Pedia

Hi Lourdes, I gave a final warning, but you may want to consider a longer block of Kinfo Pedia (talk · contribs) anyway, given the lack of seriousness with which they responded to your two week sanction. See India (cat) and Ruben Sierra, the last a bizarre messing up of a WP:BLP intro. Over the months they've descended into adding increasingly irrelevant and unsourced content, and no longer even pretend to act more constructively. More possibly disruptive editing by 49.145.14.39

There is possibly more suspicious activity and reckless edit bombing by User:49.145.14.39 on pages 21st century. They have previously been banned from editing the related page Timeline of the 21st century. I believe that they may be trying to get around the block by going to the similar page instead. See:
