  • One of the most widely used and recognizable neuroscience techniques, yet the article is full of WP:PRIMARY and WP:TECHNICAL issues. Portable Network Graphics

Portable Network Graphics – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 1,035 daily hits

  • Because the article is problematic (lacking comparison of PNG with AVIF and WebP), it is no doubt vital (regarded vital at level 5, and very frequently used on the WWW nowadays), and being widely read on the Internet, it should be an AFI. --RekishiEJ (talk) 15:46, 12 December 2022 (UTC) added a statement 10:01, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Technology

Technology – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 3,402 daily hits

  • This is a Vital level 1 article, which means that it is very important to improve. We would need to add references and maybe expand information so this article could get at least to B-class. We would have to expand its length and possibly add images. With hard work from the community I do believe that we can get this article to B-class. 𝙷𝚎𝚕𝚕𝚘𝚑𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚃𝚊𝚕𝚔⋅ 04:31, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Neutral, it has high hits but I'm not sure if AFI is a place to improve okay articles to B-class and above. SVcode(Talk) 23:43, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Neutral, important but in a decent state as it is. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 11:31, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Alan Hollinghurst

Alan Hollinghurst – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 91 daily hits

  • Vital article in People, Writers.
  • Some references but very stubby BLP. Practically nothing on his writing.
  • Established writer, with a publication history going back to the 1970s, fiction since the 1980s and articles for all his novels.
  • Even pipped future poet laureate Andrew Motion to the Newdigate Prize. Other awards, including lifetime achievement, from 1974 onwards.
  • A Booker Prize winner, so obviously important.
  • Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature - obviously this is very important.
  • External links might offer options for expansion, particularly the article from The Paris Review.
  • X00y (talk) 22:51, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Support, vital article in need of expanion. SVcode(Talk) 23:44, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Everyday life

Songhai people

Songhai people – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 161 daily hits

  • This topic is rated as Top Importance by WikiProject Africa, but it's unfortunately in a miserable shape. The formatting of this article is incomprehensible with random bullet points at the end of sections containing bolded titles followed by no text, the grammar is very inconsistent, there are many paragraphs with no sources, etc. It's very unfortunate to see such an important article in such a desperate need of improvements.  Vanilla  Wizard 💙 20:02, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Chechen cuisine

Chechen cuisine – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 162 daily hits

  • This article, though being important ([1], [2] and [3] mention Chechen dishes, meaning this cuisine is no doubt appealing), is a mere stub, meaning it definitely should be an AFI. --RekishiEJ (talk) 13:16, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Support BorgQueen (talk) 17:37, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ossetian cuisine

Ossetian cuisine – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 18 daily hits

  • As Ossetian pies are now all the rage in the entire Russia (cf. [4] & [5]), this cuisine is no doubt crucial, however the article is now a mere stub, which is a shame. --RekishiEJ (talk) 03:47, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, hits too low.SVcode(Talk) 00:25, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@SVcode: Comment This article is not widely read, yet it is an invalid reason to oppose my proposal since the unpopularity of this article is probably because it is a stub.--RekishiEJ (talk) 06:50, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well,The issue is that the article, while it does pass Non-Controversial and Stubby, It doesn’t jump over hits, and for Importance..It’s at a ??? but it doesn’t seem Top or High. As a result, that’s a. 2.5/4. That’s not enough for me to go support, but it isn’t enough for me to go Oppose. Danubeball (talk) 17:09, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Neutral per my comment. Danubeball (talk) 17:10, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose a current fad/trend and long-term vitalness is unclear, especially with the low number of page hits. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 12:01, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Saucer

Saucer – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 149 daily hits

  • Tagged for a decade. Mentions the Middle Ages, so is certainly not a recent invention. And what does it say that flying saucer (which is linked at the top) is in a better state than the common static saucer? Gaois (talk) 00:05, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Oppose, even though the article is tagged for a decade, the hits isn't high enough. SVcode(Talk) 22:20, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oppose as per SVcode. Wil540 art (talk) 17:17, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pah-Ute County, Arizona Territory – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 240 daily hits

  • High Importance within WP:Nevada, Slides over the 200 rule, start class (Barely even 3 paragraphs.) And most likely non-controversial based off of the No-IP block. Danubeball (talk) 04:32, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Support, high enough hits plus article needs expansionn. SVcode(Talk) 21:59, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

History and politics

Abdalá Bucaram

Abdalá Bucaram – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 54 daily hits

  • This is a level 5 vital article and has needed significant attention since 2009. I've tried to do some work on it, but it needs a team effort to become good. The subject has also been in the news in the last six months. -Jmjosh90 22:46, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Abolitionism

Abolitionism – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - ~900 daily hits

  • A subject of monumental importance to world history, politics, humanity's social evolution and the history of the struggle for racial equality and human rights. The page is currently in a poor state of verification, with numerous unsourced parts. Iskandar323 (talk) 07:08, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Currency of Spain

Currency of Spain – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - ~224 daily hits

  • This 82-character* sub-stub is not only our only article on Spanish currency. It's also the only page available for History of Spanish currency which was obviously enormously important through the entire early modern period as Europe started gobbling up the world. (Let alone that you've also got Castilian, Leonese, Valencian, &c. medieval currencies.) There are a few (still bad) longer articles on specific coins but this obviously needs a dedicated overview and fleshing out. The only reason the page hits are so low for this is because the treatment is so bad most articles link elsewhere or don't even bother at the moment. There are obviously hundred of articles talking about this subject, from the price of Magellan's ships to the pay for tercios in the Spanish Netherlands to treaty agreements... leaving aside anyone interested in the currency of modern Spain, its administration, or its development prior to the euro or the Spanish-specific aspects of the euro.

    * For the curious, Currency of the United Kingdom and Currency of the United States link directly to pound sterling and United States dollar but there are five separate pages on the history of the English penny and History of the United States dollar is currently at 31797 characters. — LlywelynII 06:36, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Warren Weaver

Warren Weaver – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - ~30 daily hits

  • The article on Warren Weaver has a lot of room for improvement. He is one of the most important people who came up with the principles for machine translation. I believe this could be a Level 4, maybe even a Level 3, article. I'm certainly not that great at editing, but I tried to make some of my own changes. Although, I made the reference to my source repeat too much. GoutComplex (talk) 02:00, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Achaemenid Empire

Achaemenid Empire – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - ~4670 daily hits

  • The article on the Achaemenid Empire, a.k.a. the Persian Empire, has some clear room for improvement - there are about 30 citation needed tags, and the importance of the article (level 3 vital article) is fairly beyond doubt. It would definitely be good to get some attention on this, and given the number of main articles links within sections, better sourcing should not be hard to find. Iskandar323 (talk) 13:13, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Support, needs more sourcing. SVcode(Talk) 23:08, 3 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Monorchism

Monorchism – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 136 daily hits

  • This article isn't unimportant and can be even crucial for many readers, and users can easily access it even if they haven't encountered this word before by viewing the hatnote of monarchism (my experience), yet its lead is too short, the section "Causes" lacks inline citations, and the sub-section "Due to testicular cancer" lacks adequate citations.--RekishiEJ (talk) 08:32, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Environmental impact of meat production – (page view stats • edit • talk • history) - 157 daily hits

  • Although this article is seemingly detailed, in actuality it is not comprehensive enough, since the "Beneficial environmental effects" section requires expansion, and some statements are currently tagged with "citation needed", "failed verification" and "further explanation needed", meaning this article ought to be an AFI.--RekishiEJ (talk) 17:00, 20 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
