Léonard de Vinci Graduate School of Engineering (ESILV) is a French grande école and engineering school located in Paris La Défense, France. It is fully accredited to award the title of ingénieur by the French Commission of Engineering Titles. ESILV is part of the "Pôle universitaire Léonard-de-Vinci". The school director is Pascal Pinot.

Established in 1994, the school was founded with the purpose of educating highly skilled engineers who possess the necessary tools to navigate an ever-changing technological landscape. The comprehensive five-year curriculum is designed to equip students with a deep understanding of fundamental scientific and engineering principles while nurturing their human qualities. Upon successfully completing the five-year program, students also have the option to pursue a PhD.

In February 2022, the school achieved the prestigious ranking of being the top post-baccalaureate engineering school in France and the fifth best engineering school in the country according to L'Usine nouvelle, a highly-reputated French business magazine focused on industrial processes and innovation Usine Nouvelle.

History

Léonard de Vinci Graduate School of Engineering (ESILV) was created in 1995 by the Conseil général des Hauts-de-Seine. It is an engineering school located in La Défense. Since 2003, the school has been accredited to award the title of ingénieur by the Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (CTI). This accreditation was renewed in 2013.[1]

Missions

The school's mission is to train professionals in mastering the use of new technologies, particularly IT tools in advanced applications of design, production, computer communication, and management. ESILV aims at meeting the great contemporary challenges of the world, such as the evolution of businesses, globalization, and constant creation of new professions.

Departments

Léonard de Vinci Graduate School of Engineering (ESILV) is composed of four departments:

  • Financial engineering
  • New energies[2]
  • Computer science
  • Computational mechanics

Through these different majors, students can deepen their knowledge in areas such as modeling and numerical simulation, computer networks and databases, new energies, new information technologies, computational mechanics, and financial engineering.

Admission

Students can enter ESILV after high school graduation (e.g. French Baccalauréat). Application is made during the senior year through Concours Avenir.[3] In addition to entering after high school, students may also enroll in the school after completing "Classe Préparatoire aux Grandes Écoles" and study for three years to obtain a Master's degree in Engineering. Alternatively, they can enter after completing a Bachelor's degree and spend two years in the school to graduate with a Master's degree in Engineering.

Studies

Located in the heart of the Parisian business quarter, La Defense, Léonard de Vinci Graduate School of Engineering (ESILV) has partnerships with several industrial and research institutes.

In today's global economy, the demand for multi-disciplinary engineers who can collaborate effectively with their peers in international organizations is on the rise. Léonard de Vinci Graduate School of Engineering (ESILV) has established strong partnerships with numerous industries, which offer valuable professional opportunities for its students.

The educational horizons of the school are significantly broadened through exchange programs offered at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. ESILV, guided by its teaching philosophy of "learning by doing," places a strong emphasis on the practical applications of mathematics and computer science in the realms of technology and industry.

Léonard de Vinci Graduate School of Engineering (ESILV) offers a diverse range of classes encompassing various disciplines such as mathematics, scientific computation, computer science, mechanical engineering, and financial engineering, among others. Additionally, students have the opportunity to take classes at the partnered management school, EMLV, focusing on subjects like marketing and management. To further enhance their real-world experience, the curriculum includes two six-month internships with industrial partners.

Since the graduation of the first class in July 2000, the school's alumni have successfully joined the professional world, working in various roles such as:

  • Computational Engineer
  • Design Engineer
  • Development Engineer
  • Testing Engineer
  • Software Engineer
  • Production Engineer
  • Research Engineer
  • Computer Network Engineer
  • Trader Engineer
  • Risk Management Engineer
  • Security and Exchange Manager
  • Quantitative Finance Analyst

With a tailored pedagogy and a direct involvement with the professional world through projects, internships, and a faculty comprising numerous instructors with significant professional experience, ESILV provides students with the unique opportunity to shape their own professional pathways and benefit from direct engagement with the companies that will shape the future.

ESILV brings together tomorrow’s realms of research and teaching.
