Bankura Sammilani Medical College (বাঁকুড়া সম্মিলনী মেডিক্যাল কলেজ) is a hospital and medical college in the Bankura district of the Indian state of West Bengal.

Establishment

B.S. Medical College in its current form was established in 1956 by Bankura Sammilani Trust. The college was taken over by Government of West Bengal in 1961 with an initial student strength of 25. The Medical Council of India officially recognized its postgraduate degree courses in General Medicine,General Surgery,Pediatrics and Gynecology & Obstetrics in March 2009.[1]Its postgraduate degree courses in Pathology and Preventive and Social medicine were approved by the council since March, 2010.

Location

The college is located in Bankura District of West Bengal. Its spread over a big area from Lokepur (where the administrative building, the classes and two lecture theaters of First Prof M.B.B.S., and the Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Neurology and Dialysis Unit are located) to Govindanagar (where the main campus of the Hospital, the classes and three lecture theaters of other senior years are situated).[2]

Admission

The College is affiliated to West Bengal University of Health Sciences since 2003. Before that it awarded degrees from the Calcutta University.

It has 150 MBBS seats since 2012 and 49 postgraduate degree seats (in 15 disciplines).

Admission to this college is by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination and the All India Pre Medical Test. 15% of total seats are for the CBSE PMT students.

And for admission in PG courses one has to clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Post Graduate or Kolkata PGMEE.

There are no other seat, no donation quota or no management quota.

Other features

  • There are 5 hostels for boys (Namely: Dr. S.R. Bhattacharya, Dr. B.C. Roy, Junior Boy's Hostel, Chummery and Rabin Hall) and 2 hostels for girls.
  • There is play ground situated in front of Dr S.R.Bhattacharya hostel, which hosts all intra-college outdoor tournaments.
  • All hostels are equipped with a canteen for boys and girls.
  • Small grounds inside all hostels are the place to host indoor tournaments like badminton, short cricket etc.
  • All hostels are equipped with common room with cable Televisions.

Library

The library boasts of having 15,000 books and over 30,000 journals.
