Bhagalpur Junction railway station, (Station code: BGP), is a railway station serving the city of Bhagalpur in the Bhagalpur district in the Indian state of Bihar.

History

Bhagalpur Junction railway station is connected to most of the major cities in India by the railway network. It lies in the Sahibganj loop-line which serves Bhagalpur with numerous trains. It is the third busiest line in Bihar. About 100 pairs of Express and 40 pairs of passenger train pass through this line. Bhagalpur Junction is an A1 grade railway station and is situated near the Silk City International Airport.

It is the highest revenue generator in the Malda Rail Division. It is the third major railway station in Eastern Railway after Howrah and Sealdah. Bhagalpur is well connected to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ajmer, Kanpur, Patna, Guwahati, Surat, jammu tawi, Munger, Gaya and other cities.

In the Rail Budget, Bhagalpur was converted to a Railway Division in 2008. The new rail lines which are under construction are Sultanganj to Deoghar, Bhagalpur to Dumka, Bhagalpur Godda via Hanshdiya, Banka to Deoghar. It is also the originating station for many superfast and express trains.

Facilities

The major facilities available include free wi-fi across the entire Bhagalpur Junction platforms, waiting rooms, retiring room, a computerised reservation facility, reservation counter, vehicle parking etc.[1][2] The vehicles are allowed to enter the station premises. There are refreshment rooms vegetarian and non-vegetarian, tea stall, book stall, post and telegraphic office and Government Railway police(G.R.P) office. Automatic ticket vending machines have been installed to reduce the queue on the station for train tickets.[3]

Platforms

There are six platforms in Bhagalpur Junction. The platforms are interconnected with three footbridges.

Escalators

Bhagalpur Junction is among the selected railway stations of India where automated escalators are being installed. There are escalators planned to be installed on all the six platforms.[4]
