France participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The French entry was selected through an internal selection, organised by the French broadcaster France Télévisions. Anggun represented France with the song "Echo (You and I)", which placed 22nd in the final, scoring 21 points.[1][2]

Internal selection

On 19 November 2011, France Télévisions announced its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku.[3] Like in the previous years, France Télévisions selected their entry internally.

On 29 November 2011, France Télévisions announced that Anggun would represent France in Baku.[4]

At Eurovision

In the final held on 26 May 2012, France performed 9th, following Cyprus and preceding Italy. The French performance featured Anggun supported by two backing vocalists: Caroline Devismes and Sebastien Demeaux; and three backup dancers: Jimmy Bourcereau, Jeremy Maupilet and Andrea Catozzi. France finished 22nd out of 26 with a score of 21 points, giving France its lowest score since 2007. It was later revealed that if had it only been up to the viewers to decide the final result, France wouldn't have been awarded a single point.
