Kafr el-Sheikh (Arabic: كفر الشيخ Kafr el-Šēḵ , pronounced [kɑfɾ eʃˈʃeːx]) is the capital of Kafr el-Sheikh Governorate, Egypt, about 134 km north of Cairo, in the Nile Delta of lower Egypt. As of November 2006, the town had a population of 147,380 inhabitants.[1]

History

Historically it was old village Dngiwn [2]. Kafr el-Sheikh was earlier know by denqiun, and it was inhabited for nearly a thousand years. Kafr El-Sheikh, is ranked fourth out of other 4 major Nile Delta cities. In 2006 the University of Kafr El-Sheikh was established.

Geography

Kafr el-Sheikh is a town located in the southern side of Kafr el-Sheikh province, it is famous for agriculture, particularly rice. There is a suburb of Sakha which is now become very close to the city. The East of the city has villages of Qantara and white Sawalha which are separated by a small Canal. Agricultural land is protected under the law inorder not to urbanize. Kafr El-Sheikh town is 35 km from the northern city of Tanta.

Population

The population of the city of as per the census held by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics is 147,393 citizen. The city has linked network paved roads, the main streets are full of by shops and restaurants

Factories

Kafr el-Sheikh is the home to various factories including a rice mill factory, a poultry forage factory and a sugar beet factory.[2]

Climate

Kafr el-Sheikh is classified by Köppen-Geiger climate classification system as hot desert (BWh).
