Pratyusha Banerjee (10 August 1991 – 1 April 2016) was an Indian television actress. She had appeared in numerous television and reality shows. She was and still is one of the most powerful & popular faces of Indian Telivision.[citation needed]

Banerjee first gained recognition in the television show Balika Vadhu. This was her first leading role in the television series where she earned her household name "Anandi". She had participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (season 5), Bigg Boss 7 and Power Couple.[citation needed]

Career

She was signed as lead role in 2010 Indian television series Balika Vadhu as an adult Anandi, replacing Avika Gor. According to the actress, she was chosen via a talent hunt, surpassing the contestants Nivedita Tiwari from Lucknow and Ketaki Chitale from Mumbai.[3] Following the success of the show Banerjee participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (season 5). But she left the dance show, stating that she was not comfortable during the dance rehearsals.[4] She was also one of the most competitive contestants in the seventh season of the show Bigg Boss.[4] She appeared in Power Couple, along with her partner Rahul Raj Singh.[5] Banerjee had played vital roles in Hum Hain Na,[6] Sasural Simar Ka[7] and Gulmohar Grand.[8]

Personal life

Banerjee was born in Jamshedpur city of Jharkhand to Shankar and Soma Banerjee.[3] In 2010, she left Jamshedpur to work in Mumbai.[citation needed]

Banerjee was rumored to be dating producer Vikas Gupta in April 2015.[9] However, in August 2015, it was reported that Banerjee was dating the actor and producer Rahul Raj Singh after her break up with businessman Makrand Malhotra.[10][11]

Death

On 1 April 2016 Banerjee was found hanging in her Mumbai apartment and according to the postmortem report the cause of death was asphyxia which proved it a suicide case.[12][13][14][15]
