ICE system
[edit]ICE system needs to be defined. I have no idea what it means.--Metallurgist (talk) 23:47, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
- I agree i dont know what it means either --JetBlast (talk) 02:42, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
- After the first mention of ICE it does say Information, Communication, Entertainment although it has far to much detail for an airline article, if it was that notable it would have a stand-alone article! MilborneOne (talk) 12:38, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
"Emirates Air Line"

EK413
[edit]Why is it that QF32 gets mentioned on the Qantas page, but the engine explosion of EK413 is not mentioned here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamang1999 (talk • contribs) 08:45, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
- Perhaps it's because the 2010 incident involving QF32 has an entry in Wikipedia and the 2013 incident involving EK413[1] doesn't.
☺ Dick Kimball (talk) 16:52, 5 November 2014 (UTC)
- Not considered particularly serious "'Other than the release of some metallic material from the rear of the engine, there was no evidence that high-energy debris had escaped from the engine during the failure and, as such, the event was considered as contained,' the ATSB report said." http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/parts-from-an-emirates-a380-engine-which-exploded-shortly-after-takeoff-showered-sydney-home-report-says/story-fni0cx12-1226715460110 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.112.45.108 (talk) 08:53, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
Statistics
[edit]I'm sorry if this also sounds like advertising, but I just checked the web site of the International Air Transport Association and in their World Airline Statistics for 2013 Emirates was 1st in international passenger kilometers flown (over 209 billion)[1] and 3rd in total (international plus domestic) passenger kilometers (same number) They placed the same 1st and 3rd for freight-ton-kilometers (over 10 billion).[2]

Business model
[edit]It would be good if somebody could review this para. It is outdated. Especially the sentence: "and Qantas, perceive Emirates' strategic decision to reposition itself as a global carrier as a major threat". Qantas is a partner airline of Emirates. Zugerbueb (talk) 17:31, 7 March 2015 (UTC)
Requested move 13 June 2015
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: not moved. Number 57 21:35, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Emirates (airline) → Emirates Airline – Per WP:NATURAL, we should "choose an alternative name that the subject is also commonly called in English reliable sources, albeit not as commonly as the preferred-but-ambiguous title." Parenthetical disambiguation should only be used "if natural disambiguation is not possible." Emirates Airline is the official name of the airline and would not be confusing to readers. It is also a name that is used by many sources, including the airline itself, the Twitter page, Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, and Business Insider. Other examples of such names include Sia Furler and Condor Flugdienst.
I am not saying that Emirates is not the common name of the airline, but Wikipedia prefers natural disambiguation over parenthetical disambiguation, which is used with the current name of the article. 42.98.30.146 (talk) 12:25, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose The company's name is Emirates. Read "about us". SLBedit (talk) 14:26, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- I never denied that the common name of the airline is Emirates. The name "Emirates" is usually used when there is no need for disambiguation, i.e. when it is clear that the name "Emirates" refers to the airline. In your example, it is clear that Emirates refers to an airline on their website. Another example would be CAPA, which refers to the airline as Emirates Airline once, and then calls the airline Emirates, when there is no need for disambiguation against other topics known as Emirates. However, "Emirates" is an ambiguous name and there is no evidence that Emirates the airline is the primary topic of the title "Emirates", which means that disambiguation is required, as opposed to just naming the article "Emirates". Wikipedia prefers using natural disambiguation (WP:NATURAL} to parenthetical disambiguation {in this case, WP:COMMONNAME) whenever possible. Therefore, the article should be renamed Emirates Airline. 42.98.30.146 (talk) 16:12, 13 June 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose Due to the similarity in the name of the incredibly useless cable car in London ~ipuser 90.198.209.24 (talk) 19:53, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Support per nom; WP:NATURAL beats official name. Red Slash 21:25, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. I can't see any evidence that Emirates Airline is "the official name of the airline" (as stated by the nom); the company website quite clearly uses just Emirates. At least some of the sources linked by the nom use the uncapitalised "Emirates airline". PC78 (talk) 01:10, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. I understand the logic behind the "natural" disambiguation, and agree it is preferable where possible (which is why it irks me that Madonna is not listed at Madonna Ciccone...). That said, Emirates Airline does not sound natural to me. It sounds clunky and awkward. If anything, I'd suggest using the incorporation after the name as a disambiguation (like Apple Inc. etc. - Estoy Aquí (talk) 15:49, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. Works well as is, noting also the DAB at Emirates undisambiguated. I'm completely unconvinced that any of the rules cited above really do support the proposed move, but if they really do support the move, then they should be changed, not this article name. Andrewa (talk) 15:00, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
Out of date information in this article
[edit]Hi everyone,
We are part of the Emirates Social Media team.
Firstly we would like to thank the Wikipedia community for developing and maintaining this article about Emirates.
As Emirates continues to grow, some of the information on our products in this article are out of date and as such we would like to update certain parts of the article. We do not want to do this in a way that would create a conflict of interest. Therefore we would like to ask you how best to deal with this?
We can either provide the most up to date information to an experienced member of this community or edit the article ourselves.
We look forward to your feedback and thank you all for your support.
Emirates Social Media team EKSM380 (talk) 09:17, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, and thanks for posting on this talk page. First of all, we don't allow accounts that are shared by multiple users. Instead of having a single Wikipedia account for the whole social media team, each member should create an account like "Joe at Emirates Social Media".
- You are welcome to edit the article on Emirates yourself, but make sure that all content is neutral and not promotional of the airline, and can be cited to a reliable source, which in this case includes Emirates's website.
- To handle your conflict of interest, you should read the guideline, and disclose on your userpage that you work for Emirates. If you have questions, you can ask me on my talk page. Conifer (talk) 20:46, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
