Bringing up the Hot Shots Golf name again
[edit]After doing additional research, I would like to restate my argument for renaming this page to Hot Shots Golf. According to WP:VG Naming Conventions, "Use the most commonly accepted English name first, if one exists. This is usually the official title in the initial English release."
The initial official title in the English release would be Hot Shots Golf, in addition Hot Shots Golf is the International title of the game being used in most countries like North America and Asia (excluding Japan) while Everybody's golf is used ONLY in Europe and Japan.
Also in gaming journalism Hot Shots Golf is usually the dominant and preferred title used when referring to the series. Kotaku IGN Gamespot
These few examples show that Hot Shots Golf is the more commonly accepted English name. In addition The use of Hot Shots Golf will provide more ambiguity as there is two Everybody's Golf games. I understand that people wouldn't be missing anything, but I personally feel that it is somewhat improper. Also the fourth game in the series is called "Everybody's Golf 4" when its official title is actually Everybody's Golf, it would've been simpler to just use the title Hot Shots Golf Fore! which would result in less confusion.KiasuKiasiMan (talk) 12:00, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
You managed to change the name with out a vote and without consensus which is kinda lame, "Everybody's Golf" is the common name, world wide name, and most well known name, name used in the official logo and marketing materials etc... "Hot Shots Golf" is a regional name known and used only in North America. You should revert the name change or open an rfc before just renaming things to suit your own preferences
a google search for the following search terms brings the following results
"everybody's golf" playstation
^ About 210,000 results (0.23 seconds)
"everybody's golf" playstation
^ About 168,000 results (0.25 seconds)
So "Everybody's Golf" is defiantly the common name 77.100.129.163 (talk) 03:49, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
The name (again)
[edit]Perhaps moving this to Everybody's Golf' should be reconsidered since the new title in the series slated for release in August 2017 will be called that way worldwide, with Sony dropping the Hot Shots name altogether. InflatableSupertrooper (talk) 10:12, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
- It makes sense, I fully support a move. Hot Shots was only ever an alternative name. Glad PlayStation America have finally seen sense (or have been made to). - X201 (talk) 10:21, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Moved as proposed. Clear consensus to move the series name; a closer question on the other installments, but there is a narrow consensus, and title consistency supports the later installments sharing the series name. bd2412 T 02:46, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hot Shots Golf (series) → Everybody's Golf (series)
- Hot Shots Golf → Everybody's Golf (1997)
- Hot Shots Golf 2 → Everybody's Golf 2
- Hot Shots Golf 3 → Everybody's Golf 3
- Hot Shots Golf Fore! → Everybody's Golf 4
- Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds → Everybody's Golf 5
- Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational → Everybody's Golf 6
- Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee → Everybody's Golf Portable
- Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 → Everybody's Golf Portable 2
- Hot Shots Tennis → Everybody's Tennis
- Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip → Everybody's Tennis Portable
– I suggest moving the series article and all dependent articles to the Everybody's moniker, considering that Sony is reportedly ending the North American Hot Shots branding with this year's game edition. InflatableSupertrooper (talk) 08:13, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
- Support: I support all of the above. Its common sense. The only thing I'd think needs changing in the nomination is that the series article should reside at Everybody's Golf and not have the (series) disambiguation, as per WP:VG guidelines. - X201 (talk) 08:21, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
- Support move, but only for the series. The renaming of the series in 2017 does not affect the common title of pre-2017 releases. ONR (talk) 22:43, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
- Support: clearly makes sense to use consistent article titling. Given that the 'Hot Shots' branding has only ever been used in North America and therefore has always been known as 'Everybody's Golf' elsewhere and that from now on the series will only use the 'Everybody's Golf' title even in North America it makes sense to use this term. Ebonelm (talk) 19:49, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
- Neutral. I know it doesn't help, a neutral vote, but I'm not convinced either way. WP:USEENGLISH says we should use English-language titles. While the Japanese title, translated, means Everybody's Golf, the first game was released as Hot Shots Golf in North America. From what I can tell from the WP:VG/RS custom Google search engine, is that the term "everybody's golf" is used about 160,000 and "hot shots golf" around 50,000. That the upcoming entry is called Everybody's Golf in all regions, doesn't mean, in my honest opinion, that retroactively everything should be changed. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 16:23, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Soetermans, are you seriously trying to suggest that the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, etc, countries where the name of this series has always been "Everybody's Golf", don't speak English!? It is only in North America that the title 'Hot Shots' has been used, the rest of the English-speaking world have always used "Everybody's Golf" as I explicitly stated in my support rationale above and as is implied through continued reference to "Hot Shots" being a North American only title. Ebonelm (talk) 21:46, 1 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Ebonelm Of course not! I suppose my phrasing could've been better. What I meant to say was that WP:USEENGLISH says to use English titles, and Everybody's Golf first release outside of Japan was in North America. Like a first come, first served thing. That was my original rationale. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 05:32, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

- Additional: The cover of the Japanese version has always had the name printed in English since Everybody's Golf 3 in 2001. The common name of all titles in the series is Everybody's Golf. We're in the position where an alternative name, that is only used in one region, is blocking a common sense change based on the release date. The release date guideline (WP:NCVG) is preceded by "Use the most commonly accepted English name first, if one exists." The most commonly accepted English name is Everybody's Golf. The release date guideline continues..."This is usually the official title in the initial English release, but not always." But not always. I think this requested move discussion is exactly the kind of situation that the "But not always" clause was inserted for, to stop an alternate name being used as an article title over a common sense alternative. - X201 (talk) 18:27, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

- Support - Per nom. Since the latest release game articles were moved to Everybody's Golf (1997 video game) and Everybody's Golf (2017 video game), it rendered the "(series)" moniker in the title unnecessary. InflatableSupertrooper (talk) 08:06, 3 October 2017 (UTC)
