Author information image

[edit]

Some years back, I have uploaded Image:Yang Luchan.jpg from the English Wikipedia to Commons. Now there seems to be a problem with the image, as no author information is given. I do not know where the image comes from originally, so I can't provide the information. Unfortunately, meanwhile the original image has been deleted, so I do not know who uploaded the original image, to ask him. Does anybody here know about the original source of the picture? It would be very helpful if you could add this information to the image! --Olenz (talk) 07:57, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Yang Luchan.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion

[edit]

An image used in this article, File:Yang Luchan.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion for the following reason: Wikipedia files with no non-free use rationale as of 19 May 2012

What should I do?

Don't panic; you should have time to contest the deletion (although please review deletion guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to provide a fair use rationale
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale, then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Deletion Review

Yang Lu-ch'anYang Luchan – Is there a reason why Wade-Giles was preferred over Pinyin? "Yang Lu-ch'an" doesn't even show up on Google Ngrams: [1] --Relisted. George Ho (talk) 22:51, 14 July 2015 (UTC) Timmyshin (talk) 21:36, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: Actually, the nonstandard "Yang Lu Chan" has results on Ngrams even if the Wade-Giles doesn't, and it's almost as popular as the pinyin. It seems similar to how "Tai Chi Chuan" is a common variant of "T'ai chi ch'uan". People just don't like the hyphens and apostrophes I guess, but also can't be bothered to learn pinyin. Google search results are inconclusive. Personally, I rarely see the pinyin variant, even though I prefer it. To me, there isn't a clear winner. --diff (talk) 01:50, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
