Shhh! This user edits from his works computer, just don't tell his boss. And bear in mind that he will not be here outside of M-F 9-5.

Big Brother 9 editing

Thanks for un-doing all the stuff that was changed on the Nominations Table. Tried doing it meself but kept going wrong! Sauber F1 fan since 1997 (talk) 11:28, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way where the article can be locked, like for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_characters_from_EastEnders, so that onli registered users can edit the article? It seems to be happening a lot recently and this time it was by an I.P. user. Sauber F1 fan since 1997 (talk) 11:32, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Takers Streak

No, I am not going to bother. I am a Canadian, and because of Wikipedia's pro-American stance, I will not be successful, so why waste my time? Nice to see you like to stay consistent though. Killswitch Engage (talk) 15:42, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Big Brother 2008 (UK) weekly summary, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Minor edits

Just letting you know, you've been mentioned on the admin noticeboards: see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Persistant misuse of the minor edit flag. I'm not happy with the adversarial way this has been handled, so far, but feel free to comment on the thread if you like. – Luna Santin (talk) 16:50, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An explanation

Hi there. I agree with Luna that John has been far too confrontational with you, so I thought I would take the time to explain how minor edits are usually used on Wikipedia. The problem is that many of the edits you mark as "minor" are not considered minor, so the "minor" flag on your edit summaries is misleading. From Help:Minor edit, edits should be marked as minor if they are:

  • Spelling corrections
  • Simple formatting (e.g., capitalisation, punctuation, or properly adding italics to non-English words, like folie de grandeur)
  • Formatting that doesn't change the meaning of the page (e.g. adding horizontal lines, splitting one paragraph into two—where this is not contentious)
  • Obvious factual errors (e.g., changing "Nixon resigned in 1874" to "Nixon resigned in 1974")
  • Fixing layout errors
  • Adding and correcting wiki links
  • Removing vandalism and graffiti

In other words, changes to content--for example, adding or removing sentences--are not minor edits unless they are corrections to "obvious factual errors." It would be very helpful if you would mark substantive changes to the content of articles, even if it's just a different number or a single sentence, as "major" edits. Thanks! -- SCZenz (talk) 17:04, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks SCZenz and Gwen, both. To Darren, if you're wondering why people worry about this, it's my understanding that some people (and even some automated tools) will ignore "minor" edits in recent changes, watchlists, or page history, and some of these people don't like the idea of missing some of the edits you're making. Hopefully this makes sense. – Luna Santin (talk) 17:12, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

you think they're minor and that's ok, but they're not

Hi! Having looked at your contribution history, most of the edits you mark as minor are not minor. WP:Minor edit says A check to the minor edit box signifies that only superficial differences exist between the current and previous version: typo corrections, formatting and presentational changes, rearranging of text without modifying content... yet you are marking whole additions and deletions of text as minor. I do understand that your take on what's minor is not the same as WP:Minor edit, however we edit by consensus here and consensus will be that you're marking major edits as minor, which is misleading to most editors. So, even if you don't agree, please stop marking most/all of your edits as minor when, going by the consensus understanding at en.Wikipedia, most of your edits are not minor. Thanks so much for putting up with what you may think are our wonky comments. Gwen Gale (talk) 17:07, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE:

Okay, I'll try but I'm not sure if I'll be only later tonight since I have to get up early tomorrow, but if I see him do it again I'll try to remember to report him. Before I go, I see your an atheist. If you don't mind me asking, why did you make that choice?--WillC 19:31, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, and I understand, though I hope one day you change your mind. Also please don't use the words brainwashing or brainwashed. Christians don't brainwash. Have you ever seen a christian try to trick you or force you to believe, no. They just explain it to you and it is your decision to chose. So the normal insults of brainwashing and cult isn't a accurate depiction of the Christian belief. Though I would like to try and change your mind since I've discussed this topic many times and I'm only 17. I've had atheists cuss me out and give no good counter argument. But that is your decision, the reason I want to try is just incase I'm right, when you die and if God is real I don't want you to suffer.--WillC 19:19, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, well I won't even try to change your mind, I can see in your writing that your determined and your like most atheists, a little stubbourn (no offense, I just get the vibe). You better hope your right, since all you have to do is think like this, if I believe in God and he is real, when I die I go to heaven (sounds a little retarded but I don't care). If I believe in God and he isn't real, then nothings happens and I never know I was wrong. If I'm don't believe in God, and find out he is real, then I go to hell when I die. If I don't believe in God and find out he isn't real then nothing happens. The best choice is to believe, because what would be smarter?--WillC 17:34, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You want to know my story. I was born in 1991, my mother brung me to church all the time. Around the age of 12 I quit going so much. I got tired of it. I'm home schooled, my books are in Christian Perspective. They talk about all the religions of the world, and not in the way you would expect. They don't say there is no truth to them. They explain them like any high school would. I became interested in many different religions and began to read about them, discuss them, and even start to write a book about them when I was 14, which I never finished because I found out I didn't know enough about the subject yet to fill a hard back book. I talk to very intelligent atheists on Youtube, you may want to watch a few videos on that section of youtube, mainly The Amazing Atheist. Anyone else is pretty much an asshole (I'm not a very strict christian). Plus a few Christians on there, mainly VenomfangX, who I use to like until I saw he was a little pathetic. I'm rusty on this subject though since the last time I talked about it was around a few months ago. It has bored me. I chose my own path, not by my mother making me too, but because I see that God, well Creationism is reliable in my mind. I believe Creationism has more truth, since something you've probably heard before, I can see the universe and this planet all around me and I just can't see how there can't be a designer.--WillC 08:36, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I'm getting a little frustrated with 82.44.194.247's attitude on Talk:Unforgiven (2008) and was hoping you could point me in the right direction for where I need to lodge a complaint about him.  Hazardous Matt  15:41, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I couldn't remember the name of it, and then when I founded I didn't know if that was just for users or IPs. I posted there anyway. Hopefully I'll hear something soon. Thanks again.  Hazardous Matt  15:58, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

George Black (shipbuilder)

On May 30, you replaced the content of that article by a redirect to Shipbuilder. Since you were effectively deleting that article, that would normally require some form of discussion. See Help:Merging and moving pages. --Big_iron (talk) 10:53, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I agree that a redirect is better than deletion. I didn't find it a useful redirect and I would probably vote for improving the article instead, but that may just be my own opinion. The assertion that the subject is important is based on information from a credible source; the original author described it as an "External link" rather than a "Reference" which was an acceptable practice in earlier times. I was not "second guessing" per se; I was just doing some cleanup for articles associated with a particular Wikipedia project and happened to notice that that particular article was in a state inconsistent with what the project documentation stated. --Big_iron (talk) 15:49, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, I saw that you were paying special attention to that article. I think if I started to actively apply the film MoS to some of the articles on here I would never be able to stop... and I think people might complain about that, especially considering that I edit under similar circumstances to yourself. ;-) OBM | blah blah blah 14:15, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
