Douglas Mountain is a mountain of the Colorado Front Range that is due west of the city of Denver, Colorado. It can be prominently seen from downtown Denver, as well as from Denver International Airport, which is approximately 50 miles east of the mountain peak. It is named after Stephen A. Douglas, the "Little Giant" who was short in stature but a giant in politics. Similarly, while not as tall as many of the Rocky Mountains, Douglas Mountain's proximity to Denver makes it a large landmark.
Douglas Mountain is also the subject of a song of the same name. Composed by Alec Wilder with lyrics by Arnold Sundgaard the most famous recording is by Canadian children's artist Raffi. The song has been released by Raffi on both Christmas albums and lullaby albums. Most recently Raffi has been performing Douglas Mountain as the encore during his 2012 #BelugaGrads tour.
