April 2020[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Magnolia677. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Western United States, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:09, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at San Diego County, California, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 18:52, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

At San Diego County, California, you added that the GDP per capita is $65,602. You reverted my edit with the edit summary "GDP per capita is literally just GDP divided by population. You don't need a source to determine it." What source did you use to determine this figure? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:33, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To calculate GDP per capita, you divide the GDP by the population. AKLand (talk) 00:50, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source/license for File:Upstate New York.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Upstate New York.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by MifterBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: Once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. --MifterBot (TalkContribsOwner) 00:45, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Upstate New York.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello, I didn't see the copyright symbol on the image. I'm sorry, I didn't understand that I shouldn't upload images that have that symbol on them. AKLand (talk) 02:59, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! The stuff above is boilerplate text, so it comes off a little more harshly than it needs to in your case (which was just a simple misunderstanding). Vmanjr (talk) 03:55, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

With this edit at Demographics of California you added a 2019 population estimate. What was your source? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 20:41, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please answer my question. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 09:41, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

May 2020[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! List of cities in Nevada[edit]

Hello, I undid your edit to the list of cities in Nevada because you replaced official census data with population estimates. Generally, I think it's best to avoid estimates when actual census numbers are available. I agree that the 2000 data is well out of date, however in a few months the 2020 census data will be released and we can update this table with actual census data. Your help would be greatly appreciated at that time. The premature change also meant the lead had numbers that no longer match the table. Mattximus (talk) 13:15, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

June 2020[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Michigan; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.Find someplace else (like the article talk page) to argue. Don't jack around top level articles. Per WP:BRD, the WP:ONUS is on you to gain consensus for your disputed change John from Idegon (talk) 09:46, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edit comments[edit]

I don't understand how {{Weatherbox}} works and the documentation does not help that much. Can you please explain what this edit accomplishes and consider leaving edit comments in the future. ~Kvng (talk) 16:16, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Usually people compile the climate data for one area into a template, because it takes up less space, and there's a feature on the weather box that lets you click a button to be transported to the edit page for that weatherbox. AKLand (talk) 18:36, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Use weather data in template" might be a good edit summary to leave when making changes like this. ~Kvng (talk) 15:41, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, then. I'll put an edit notice whenever I make those edits. AKLand (talk)

If you refuse to spend the time to properly acquaint yourself with the sources, I have no compunction to spend the time to upload the correct process. The 1981–2010 normal January minimum is 18.0 °F (, not 17.6 °F. See also under the Observed Weather tab: "Monthly Weather Summary" → "Cheyenne, WY" → "January 2020". As this is not the first template where this has occurred, consider this your warning for deliberately introducing factual errors. CaradhrasAiguo (leave language) 01:33, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Until you agree to use temperature normals from the above two methods I mentioned, you will be continually reverted. On the second change, using mean maxima and minima from the entire period of record should be discussed at Template talk:Weather box; until then, the default most recent standard 30-year period (1981–2010) should be used as the basis for the mean maxima and minima. CaradhrasAiguo (leave language) 01:06, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I never used the whole record for mean max/min, I used 1981-2010. AKLand (talk) 16:49, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I am not questioning your post-administrative thread mean maxima / minima additions... CaradhrasAiguo (leave language) 16:56, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Observation[edit]

As of this moment, you've got four edits total in either the talk or user talk namespaces. That is striking considering there has been a fair amount of controversy as a result of your edits. That's OK (there's a lot of it here), but come on man, if multiple editors are questioning what you're doing, you really need to up your game with communicating. You really can't go on like you have been. This is a ginormous encyclopedia with lots of people doing different things and if you can't explain what you're doing and why, then you should 1) reconsider your approach and use edit summaries each and every time you make a change 2) use talk pages if something comes up or 3) stop editing altogether. Best of luck to you, Dawnseeker2000 03:00, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I definitely do look at and see the posts, but I will try to respond and explain myself in the future. AKLand (talk) 04:14, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

July 2020[edit]

Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to List of cities in Iowa, did not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. What are you doing? You gutted a list article with the comment "Work in progress". What work? Why would we want to remove virtually the entire content of a list article? If you have some grand reorganization in mind then I suggest that you discuss it on the article's talk page first, and actually explain what you are doing in your summary. Meters (talk) 22:19, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Meters, I never saw an explanation of this edit either. AKLand, I thought I read that you were going to give edit summaries, yet many of your recent edits are unexplained. Drmies (talk) 17:46, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Drmies, Yup. It looked like an attempt to replace the alphabetical list with an ordered list of just the top 10, according to the 2019 population estimates. Maybe the intention was to order the entire list and the user never went back after the undo, but still, no prior discussion, no explanation when the edit was made, and no explanation when I asked. I would argue that an alphabetic list is more useful, and certainly much less trouble from a maintenance view than any ordered list, (and particularly one based on an annual estimate).
AKLand, when people ask you about edits such as this, you really should reply. A good faith edit that was just a bad idea is one thing, but refusing to discuss it doesn't look good. And neither does having multiple other posts on your talk page about your edits and lack of communication. Meters (talk) 19:54, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, didn't notice that the diff was a different article. Exactly the same thing, an ordered list of just the top 20, and no attempt to add the rest of the deleted locations even though it had been two months since the deletion. Meters (talk) 20:01, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I thought it might be handy to leave a paper trail in this section, albeit for a different article, with an experienced editor such as you. (I saw someone make the huge revert in that article, undoing this editor). AKLand, PLEASE answer when others are asking you questions. Drmies (talk) 20:41, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
AKLand, are you planning on commenting on this or not? Ignoring multiple requests is not a good sign. Meters (talk) 21:50, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

At Muskegon, Michigan, I noticed with this edit you added data to the climate box. What was your source? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 03:29, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The source is already there (https://w2.weather.gov/climate/xmacis.php?wfo=grr), but I just added some extra information from the page. AKLand (talk) 04:03, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In the future, could you please update the "accessdate" in the source? Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 04:08, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will in the future. AKLand (talk) 04:10, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Even after the last administrative thread, I had to revert this edit and 15 others for the exact same reasons I gave here. This user is asking to be topic banned from any climatology edits. CaradhrasAiguo (leave language) 14:09, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't even do much climate editing anymore. Also, how come you waited a month and then decided to revert the edits? I was making the edits and they weren't being reverted so I kept making them, and then you wait a month, revert them, and want me banned. AKLand (talk) 16:04, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I assumed you had learned the mistakes, but after examining one of the post-thread edits last weekend, thought otherwise. And, if it were to be enacted, a topic ban will not affect your ability or standing to edit other topics. CaradhrasAiguo (leave language) 16:42, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Climate edits[edit]

Thank you for all of the work you've put into adding hard-to-find climate data for cities across the United States. I know it's a lot of hard work and it can be frustrating when you spend an hour typing something up and someone comes by and knocks it over in a manner of seconds. I don't blame you for taking a break.

I have restored some of your edits. I plan to restore more, but I will work slowly so I have time to pay close attention to what I do. I understand the source of the dispute and I will take responsibility for everything I do.

If you ever decide to return to climate editing and you have questions, you can ask me for help. If I can't help you, I will find someone who can.

Best wishes,

File source problem with File:Washington 2018 House.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Washington 2018 House.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear.
