It's not policy, but it's just good advice.--JOJ Hutton 16:27, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Knott's Berry Farm travesty of edits.

May I suggest that we work together to restore a cohesive whole article of Knott's Berry Farm, with the eye toward the future of creating a Knott's Berry Farm History, before confusing visitors with a garishly truncated and uninformative slice of the truth. Please work with me, as opposed to edit warring with the result of further fracturing the contributions of other editors. In other words, give it a rest and work together in the spirit of goal orientated management.Disneywizard (talk) 23:35, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Test Track article name change

I recently did a major re-write/expansion on the Test Track article and when I was gathering some references I noticed alot said the the name of the ride is "Test Track Presented by Chevrolet". Should the article be moved under that name?--Dom497 (talk) 17:36, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

I don't think so, many things are like that, such as Luminosity, Powered by Pepsi. Where the article doesn't have the powered by Pepsi part.--Astros4477 (talk) 02:54, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

GAN: Top Thrill Dragster

I have reviewed the Top Thrill Dragster article that you nominated for GA status and have put it on hold for 7 days to allow improvements to be made to the article. Please see the review page for more details.--Dom497 (talk) 20:44, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Kings Island

Thanks for your help so far in getting Kings Island up to speed. I'm considering merging the Notable Events into the History section, since some of it is already mentioned there. After a few more tweaks like this, I plan to list it soon for a copy edit. — GoneIn60 (talk) 17:10, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

I actually listed it for a copy edit a while ago here. User:Folklore1 did some cleanup with the article and added the GOCE tag on the talk page, but this was all that was fixed. An official copy edit never took place and the user never even removed Kings Island from the copy edit list so I think I'm going to remove the GOCE tag because a copy edit never really took place.--Astros4477 (talk) 17:47, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good. If you don't mind, I'd like to be the one to list it for a GAN following the copy edit. I haven't been through the process yet, and I think it would be a good experience to get under my belt. — GoneIn60 (talk) 17:53, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good. It's a very good experience to learn what a good article really needs. It helps with future GAN's too because you'll know what needs to be done before hand and you won't have to spend time fixing everything they say when it's reviewed.--Astros4477 (talk) 17:59, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Behemoth (roller coaster) GA reassessment

I just want to let you know that I have reassessed the Behemoth (roller coaster) article for if it still meets the GA criteria and I left some comments on what needs to be fixed (see the article talk page for more details). By no means am I telling you that you have to fix this problems, I'm just posting this message on user's talk page's that edit Wonderland articles.--Dom497 (talk) 23:28, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

I'll be glad to help if I find time, I'm in the process of promoting three other article to GAN, but it doesn't look like Behemoth needs too much work.--Astros4477 (talk) 23:40, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Just curious, what are those 3 articles? :-P --Dom497 (talk) 23:52, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Canada's Wonderland, Kings Island and Progressive Field. Kings Island and Progressive Field are awaiting copy edits. I know your involved with Canada's Wonderland, do you think it's close to GAN?--Astros4477 (talk) 00:40, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
CW is close, but not ready to be nominated. I just took a look at it and there are still some statements without references. If I can find some time, I'll try find some refs and add them.--Dom497 (talk) 19:28, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Also, any update of signs of construction at Cedar Point about the new ride. Cedar Point just confirmed that Disaster Transport and Space Spiral are on their way out.--Dom497 (talk) 20:40, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Well Disaster Transport will close on July 29 so I expect construction to start shortly after that. It shouldn't take too long to demolish.--Astros4477 (talk) 02:57, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Hey Astros. Just wondering if you could please reply to the last comment on the review page. Thanks Themeparkgc  Talk  00:00, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Kings Dominion

Thank you for adding the rating scale to Kings Dominion; it is an essential component of the article. But I notice that you copied some language from Kings Dominion's official literature. Do you have copyright permission? Please discuss here. Thank you. 69.243.26.39 (talk) 20:28, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

I actually did not create the chart. It looks like it was created in the Kings Island article by User:Nickvet419 with this edit on May 13, 2010.--Astros4477 (talk) 21:00, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, now that it is posted at the copyright-problems page, let us see what happens. hopefully, it will get to stay as-is. 69.243.26.39 (talk) 21:34, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
Looks like the chart was removed, but a note was added to the rating column in each chart. I will remove it from the other articles that use it. — GoneIn60 (talk) 16:57, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Canada's Wonderland

Excuse me? My edit at Canada's Wonderland FIXED a part of the page where it wasn't converting measurements. I added a close } that was causing the page to not work well. It was in no way vandalism. Please refrain from proactively attacking my efforts unless you actually know what's going on, I do NOT appreciate being accused of maliciousness. Specifically it was this line "On 4 May 2008, Canada's Wonderland opened a hypercoaster called Behemoth. Until Leviathan opened in 2012, Behemoth held the record for the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Canada, standing at 230 feet (70 m) and reaching speeds of {{Convert|77|mph|km/h}" See how it's missing the close } ? You reverted my edit and it is now missing it again. 24.141.56.32 (talk) 20:42, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Look at the diff. Somehow in fixing that problem, you removed every URL in that section. Note that you also did that on Paddy field and removed random stuff here on this very page. jcgoble3 (talk) 23:44, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Original Canada's Wonderland wordmark.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Original Canada's Wonderland wordmark.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Talkback

Wildcat.

It is my opinion that listing Wildcat as closing in 2011 implies that Cedar Point & Cedar Fair had intended to close the ride at end 2011 operating season. This not only fogs the actual history of the ride, but also goes against the main Wildcat article that states it was closed prior to opening in May 2012.

Also, there are sources to show that Wildcat trains were refurbished over the winter, placed on the track and the ride tested for several weeks with employee's riding the ride after it passed state of Ohio testing by the dept of agriculture. I'm obviously new here, but is there a way to put this to a vote among contributors? — Preceding unsigned comment added by PrawoJazdyVtrumpets (talkcontribs) 19:39, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Firstly, welcome to Wikipedia. Since Astros has said he is on vacation I thought I'd jump in here. The key is Wildcat hadn't publicly operated since 2011. The primary source for this kind of information comes from the Roller Coaster Database's entry on the Wildcat which can be found here. If there are reliable sources to indicate that the ride was being refurbished, then feel free to include them in the Wildcat article. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:49, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
I found some time to make it on. The problem is, on Wikipedia we use the last operated date as the closed date. For example, Son of Beast hasn't operated since 2009 but if it never reopens again, it closed in 2009.--Astros4477 (talk) 00:34, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. I appreciate the explanation and I think those are viable reasons to undo the edit, I'll keep that in mind as we go on. It will take me some time to get used to formatting etc... and I appreciate your input and the introduction page you created. I look forward to contributing to Cedar Point and other articles. Thanks again. --PrawoJazdyVtrumpets (talk) 19:32, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message here. Cedar Point is also my home park so I contribute frequently to it. Tools

I just noticed some of your recent edits on here and on Commons and I thought a few tools might be of use to you. You don't have to use them, but I do and I have found them much easier than doing stuff manually:

  • HotCat - available on both Wiki and Commons - allows the easy addition and removal of categories from files, articles etc - can be enabled from Special:Preferences > Gadgets > HotCat.
  • Flickr2Commons - name says it all - you plug in a URL and a new filename and it will transfer the file to Commons
  • Commons Commander - Commons-only - easily move a bunch of files from one category to another

If you do use them, let me know what you think. Themeparkgc  Talk  00:56, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the info! I've seen HotCat used before but I just never got around to enabling it. That should help a lot in the future. I'll try them out and let you know what I think.--Astros4477 (talk) 03:03, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Your revert on Luminosity

I'm not sure what you were trying to do here with this revert, but the edit you reverted consisted solely of an addition of content, not a removal as you stated in your edit summary. I've reverted your revert and removed the incorrect warning from the IP's talk page. Please check what happened; perhaps you meant to revert a different edit? jcgoble3 (talk) 21:29, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Yes you're correct. I meant to revert the edits made by the IP user before that. I thought it was all the same IP user, I wasn't paying enough attention.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:49, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

I don't know if you've heard much about this since you came back from Disney just yesterday but apparently Cedar Point has pulled the plug on Space Spiral early (as in its now closed). Can you confirm this?--Dom497 (talk) 14:36, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

From what I've heard, they have just closed Troika and Space Spiral while they finish demolishing Disaster Transport. Once they finish Disaster Transport, I believe it'll be open again. I'm going to the park tomorrow so I'll try to find out more.--Astros4477 (talk) 14:39, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Califonia's Great America edits

Those were not defunct attractions on the California's Great America page. Berserker, Eagle's Flight, Orbit, Delta Flyer, and Centrifuge are all in operation. I have visited 3 times this month. Also, the maximum heights are derived from the same reference that the original height restrictions are derived from, and I added annotations. The list of rides can also be verified by visiting the website or calling the park if you do not live in California. I vote to restore my edits, because I believe it enhances the accuracy of the page. The only item I am not sure about is the 60"C notation used by Great America in the Maximum Height section. I don't know what the "C" means to Great America (it might mean children-only, but many of the same rides require parent supervision for certain children, suggesting that adults can be admitted also), since the brochure does not seem to explain what it means. I will see if I can restore my changes (and remove the "C" notation until I understand it). Feel free to revert my reversion if you disagree. Have a good day. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThirdFrog (talkcontribs) 03:55, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Astros4477. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Full_Throttle_(roller_coaster), for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Mike (talk) 20:38, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Hey, just noticed that you moved the SkyRider back to Skyrider even though that's wrong. You do it is officially spelled SkyRider right?--Dom497 (talk) 19:37, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

You moved SkyRider to Skyrider (ride) yesterday at 19:32. Then I moved Skyrider (ride) to Skyrider (roller coaster) at 19:40 yesterday because its a roller coaster. I'm a little confused as to why you moved it to Skyrider (ride) if it is spelled with a capital R.--Astros4477 (talk) 19:44, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

I'm sure you meant well, but your statement that the IP vandalized an article after the last warning was not correct. I was somewhat sympathetic because the IP was clearly doing nothing but vandalizing articles, but it makes the reviewing admin job's harder when you do that. In any event, I waited a bit, and the IP vandalized another article, so I blocked them.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:21, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

O I'm sorry about that. Glad it worked out and they were blocked.--Astros4477 (talk) 00:29, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Expedition Everest: requested copy edit

Hi. I started to work on your request, but have now abandoned it and declined the request, having found that the article contains "starts in an office full of planning equipments and other stuff, used at travel agencies", copied from http://www.lifthill.net/berichte/expeditioneverest_eng.php (FN7). Apart from being nothing like encyclopedic language, as described in Wikipedia:Copy-paste, it isn't acceptable to make word-for-word copies of sources like this. If I were to continue with the copy edit, I would feel obliged to check everything in the article for copy-paste, so with regret I have abandoned it. If you would like to have a copy edit before nominating the article for GA, please would you first ensure that all of it is written in the words of Wikipedia editors, and none of it copied directly from sources. Regards, --Stfg (talk) 15:20, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

I'll go through and double check everything but do I have to relist it or can I just contact you? I don't really wanna wait another 1 1/2 to 2 months for it to be copy edited.--Astros4477 (talk) 17:35, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
I have gone through and double checked to make sure there's no copy and paste. That one section is all I could find.--Astros4477 (talk) 17:43, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for doing that. No, you don't have to relist, i will resume the c/e this evening or, more likely, tomorrow. You need take no action. (I am watching :)) --Stfg (talk) 17:50, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

No worries. I'll keep it watchlisted from now until GA. Good luck --Stfg (talk) 21:28, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

TesTrack

Who ever said it is stylized as TesTrack, I was going to remove it.--Dom497 (talk) 20:24, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

No one but if you look at the logo, it is stylized as TesTrack.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:07, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
You sure about that? How are we supposed to know if it is actually Test Rack? :P All joking aside, I still think that single T is really supposed to represent 2. Half is in blue for "Test" and the other half is in black for "Track".--Dom497 (talk) 21:53, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
I'll go ahead and remove it. The reason I thought it looked like one T is because if you make both the same color, it connects like a T would.--Astros4477 (talk) 22:14, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Hand-coding

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:29, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

which rides are notable for wikipedia

Do you know any rides that is notable enough for wikipedia? I may create a article about a name of those rides. Any questions, please message on my talk page. Starship9000.

Any operating roller coaster is usually considered notable. Also any ride that broke a record or was a first is considered notable. It's just rides that are mass produced aren't considered notable because they are all the same. Hope this helps.--Astros4477 (talk) 00:46, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Put the proposed deletion message on the article Headley Whitney Museum

Hello Astros4477,

Will you put the proposed deletion/dated on the article Headley Whitney Museum and for the concern, put "not notable. Stub." and for the timestamp, put "201212260145". Once you put it to be proposed for deletion, please send me a message about it. Please do respond and send me a message on my talk page. Starship9000.

I'm actually going to request it for Speedy Deletion, I think that's more suitable.--Astros4477 (talk) 00:28, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

If you search Apple Turnover (Kings Dominion), it takes you to the Kings Dominion page. When you see it, click on it and put a tag on the page to request it to be speedy deleted from wikipedia. Please do leave me a message on my talk page. Starship9000 —Preceding undated comment added 19:54, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

See Also section

Recently, you made the point that many amusement park articles have a link such as 2011 in amusement parks in their See also section. While that may be true, I'm not so sure it belongs there. Usually that section should only be used to direct readers to "further reading" on the subject, to other articles on Wikipedia that have strong ties to the subject when it couldn't be mentioned in prose within the article. Links like this one go to an article that have many things listed for 2011, but 99% of which have nothing to do with The Crypt. If you really think it needs to be mentioned somewhere, it would probably be best to list it at the bottom as a category. What do you think? Thought I'd run this by you before posting it on article talk pages asking for a consensus. --GoneIn60 (talk) 14:34, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

I think Category:2011 in amusement parks should be created and added to Category:Amusement rides that closed in 2011, Category:Roller coasters introduced in 2011 etc.. I'll leave a TB on some other users talk pages.--Astros4477 (talk) 14:40, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
Firstly, recreating Category:2011 in amusement parks would be a bad idea as it was already deleted through a deletion discussion here. Secondly, if we removed all the links from the articles, the XXXX in amusement parks articles would basically be impossible to find for a normal reader. I think the definition of see also is fluid enough for the inclusion of these articles; however, I would prioritise other, more specific articles over the XXXX in amusement parks series of articles. Hope that makes sense. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:01, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback. My concern is based off the fact that featured articles do not generally use "See also" sections. I believe the criteria required for featured status discourages them. It's even more undesirable and somewhat obscure to have one that contains only one link. However, I see your point. No one would find the article otherwise, unless it's wikilinked from other articles. There are bigger fish to fry of course, but it might be worth revisiting down the road. --GoneIn60 (talk) 23:46, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

any other rides notable

Is there any other amusement rides notable besides a operating roller coaster or a ride that broke a record? Please do tell me by leaving a message on my talk page. Starship9000 —Preceding undated comment added 17:14, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Help finding archived articles

Hey, I currently working on re-writing the Dragon Challenge article (to get it to GA) in my sandbox and I need help finding articles for the first 2 paragraphs in the "Dragon Challenge (2010 - present)" section. Orlando Sentinel had to have covered almost everything having to do with Harry Potter in Universal but I can't find any articles. I was thinking that some articles that might be useful would be archived through Way Back Machine but I can't find any article through WBM, ony audio files which will do nothing. I was hoping that maybe you know more about how to find archived articles and maybe you could find them for me just this one time. I will leave this same message on Themeparkgc's talk page.--Dom497 (talk) 20:39, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Have you tried using Google News Archive? I've used it in all my GANs to find press releases as far back as when Magnum opened in 1989.--Astros4477 (talk) 21:43, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Nope! I will try it when I get a chance, thanks!--Dom497 (talk) 21:51, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Google News is great. Sometimes though, you might come across an article from the Orlando Sentinel that requires you to pay money to view it. I have found you can grab the article's title, wrap it in quotes (e.g. "title of article") and plug it in a normal Google search, this will return a free copy of it 99% of the time. This technique may or may not work for other publications. Themeparkgc  Talk  22:52, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
