Orphaned fair use image (Image:Yuan03-spoiler.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Yuan03-spoiler.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. List of snakes

Just to save you a little trouble — there's already a link to List of snakes by state (U.S.) built into the header of the SnakesByState template. Just click on the word "List" and there you go. You can still add a text link in a See Also section if you want, but this might save you a little work, and that's usually a good thing. Realkyhick 19:30, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

  • I understand, I'm just trying to make it look perfect and thorough.

Also, what do you think about my tables?

  • That'd be nice, thank you.

Redirect of Snakes in America

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Snakes in America, by CultureDrone (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Snakes in America is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Snakes in America, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Snakes in America itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 13:06, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:2002.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:2002.PNG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 17:46, 18 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 17:46, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Firefox userbox.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Firefox userbox.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Angry Video Game Nerd

Thanks for your help on the article. I just wanted to let you know I checked up on the IP addresses for the last two "delete it" users. Both IPs come from the same area in Mexico. I believe the "new" user is a sock puppet. When the "new" user undid one of my recent talk changes, look at the change he made in my listed name - it shows prior malice! :-) Anyway, thanks again!

I like the template, but it might be a good idea to remove it. It appears that is only for cases where it was discussed in the official deletion articles rather than just our talk page. The admins might take exception to this. I will update the archive label to specify that is was the deletion discussion. Have a great day. Thanks for the star, I will reciprocate.

Is there a way to have the talkpage on the new Angry Video Game Nerd article unprotected? --Mooshykris (talk) 05:07, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Yes. It turned out to be on a list of automatically prohibited pages from last March. Since the situation then is no longer applicable and the protection was disrupting legitimate editing, I removed it. --Kizor (talk) 14:42, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Alpha Omega Publications, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Alpha Omega Publications and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Phlegm Rooster (talk) 08:58, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: Twinkle

Hello - thanks for the message. From a quick look at your most recent contributions, yes, you're using Twinkle correctly. You've also got it set to notify the article's creators of your speedy tags. I didn't look close enough to see if you're tagging them with the correct deletion reason, like using A7 instead of G12 for a particular article, so be sure you're using the right rationale.

As for me, I use a mix of Twinkle and manual, for both tagging and actual deletion. For example, if I want to delete an image, especially one that's used in one or more articles, I'll often use Twinkle because it orphans the backlinks - it removes the image from the article. The regular 'delete' button we admins use has a dropdown menu with the CSD rationales, but it doesn't do that handy backlink removal. Let me know if I can answer any more questions - keep up the good work!  :-) KrakatoaKatie 06:59, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi Mooshykris - I've removed the speedy deletion tag you placed on Stop and call - the external links show clearly that this is a real place, and villages, no matter how small, all meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. Grutness...wha? 02:05, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

It takes a little while, but you'll learn them soon enough. Good to see a new worker at NPP - keep up the good work :) Grutness...wha? 02:18, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

User:Uncle Grumbles

I'm sorry, I just need some clarification. Are you saying that this user has violated his last warning? Because it appears you warned him at 5:19 on 25 July, but his last contribution was at 4:54 on 25 July (where, yes, he blanked the page). So I'm not sure what you are reffering to, considering he blanked the page before your warning and has not made any edits since, and he could not have vandalized a deleted page. Please get back to me, Happyme22 (talk) 05:28, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

No no, thank you for clarifying. And I completely understand now :) Since he has not vandalized since your last warning, technically a block should not be implemented (because we should assume good faith in that he will stop). But if he starts up again, please come straight to me. Best, Happyme22 (talk) 05:38, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
Well I'm pretty new at the administrator stuff too, so lets us amateurs stick together! Haha! --Happyme22 (talk) 05:53, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed today that you were doing newpages patrolling but are not marking some of the pages you visit as patrolled. Though this is not mandatory in any way, and should not be done for all newpages, where appropriate it keeps your fellow patrollers from wasting time reviewing the same page multiple times. In any event, keep up the good work! Thanks. Good work on NPP, you tend to beat me to them, just trying to reduce redundancy. Terrillja (talk) 05:33, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Hello Mooshykris, you have nominated this article for speedy within one second of creating it. Please don't do it so hastily. Give some time to the editors to develop the article.Salih (talk) 07:52, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

This is to inform you that the article is been restored. Best Wishes!Salih (talk) 20:10, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I can understand that. But, what I cannot understand is the attitude of the user who actually deleted the article. Salih (talk) 04:18, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Befuddled with regards to speedy-delete request

I fail to see how PokéBattlers can classify as a "fangame." In fact, I am somewhat insulted by the derogatory term that implies. The beta version of PokéBattlers attracted 5000 unique registered users in under two months. Around 4000 of them were active. I cannot accept that you find it "not notable enough to meet Wikipedia's standards" when PokéBattlers is, in all humility, more notable than a fair bunch of articles I've seen.

Actually, I am of the opinion that there are a lot of Poképhobics around Wikipedia, as illustrated by the deletion of all Pokémon pages as they were condensed into a single, downcasting paragraph.

All I can say is, if you don't like it I'll take it somewhere else and it'll be your loss.

EDIT: Also, how can you possibly judge it within ten seconds of the article's creation?

Befuddled with regards to speedy-delete request

I am glad to hear your Pokémon fandom, but I might remind you of the rules, if I may, particularly A7 which you are trying to use against me.

A7 states:

An article about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of verifiability and reliability of sources, and is a lower standard than notability; to avoid speedy deletion an article does not have to prove that its subject is notable, just give a reasonable indication of why it might be notable. A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on. Other article types, including school articles, are not eligible for deletion by this criterion. If controversial, as with schools, list the article at articles for deletion instead.

The box that appears on the article includes:

This page may meet Wikipedia’s criteria for speedy deletion as an article about a web site, blog, web forum, webcomic, podcast, browser game, or similar web content that does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject. Note that books, albums, software etc., or schools, are not eligible under this criterion. See CSD A7.Article about an a web site, blog, web forum, webcomic, podcast, browser game, or similar web content, which does not assert notability (CSD A7) A7

SOFTWARE is not eligible under this criterion. By my knowledge, PHP scripting is software. Therefore the A7 argument may not be applied. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaboom42 (talkcontribs) 18:32, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Reply from outside editor: The article states that it is an online game, AKA web content. If we were talking about a game which had to be downloaded, I could see your argument, but the article seems to imply the game is online only, and as such I view it to be web content. --Terrillja (talk) 18:38, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
As another editor showed up on the page as well and disagreed, I have nominated it at AfD instead. While I do think this falls under A7 (web) I don't like controversial speedy deleting. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PokéBattlers. Thanks all. ~ mazca t|c 18:45, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
As part of The PokéBattlers Team, and also as a Software Engineer..... firstly, Software does not apply to just what you "download and run on your desktop". Second, according to your definition of "Software", the new Cloud platforms such as Windows Azure are just "web content", this is NOT true, these PHP/SQL/web-language and Desktop software hybrids are just as much software as your web-browser, or any PHP/ASP applications you care to load with it. A7 may NOT be applied in this senario as Web Software is just another branch of Software. DX-MON (talk) 18:48, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Calm down? Calm down?!? I've spent five frigging years having insults thrown at me from all sides! Now my first ever article is contested before I even view it myself, and you're telling me to calm down? ~Kaboom —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaboom42 (talkcontribs) 18:57, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Keep in mind that no one here "owns" any articles (well except your userpage I guess). And creating an article on a game that you are developing is in blatant disregard for WP:COI. --Terrillja (talk) 19:01, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
If you are against it because it "is in development", then we will tag it as {{future software}}. Therefore you only have to ask rather than use that as an argument for deletion. (You can use the game at the moment....) DX-MON (talk) 19:07, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Still doesn't change the issue of COI, which in itself is enough reason for the article to be deleted. --Terrillja (talk) 19:13, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
Well if you want to play the game and then come and edit the article with a "more neuteral point of view" after a day or two, then be our guest - you'll need to talk with Kaboom42 to get his consent. If you cower away from this offer then I will treat it as a "don't want just because I don't like" which is more biased than the article already is.... (which it's not by the way). DX-MON (talk) 19:18, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
I'll pass. I'm already busy, with school, so playing videogames is not something I have time for. Being able to edit here is already barely possible. --Terrillja (talk) 19:25, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
PokéBattlers is NOT a video game, it is a Text-Based browser game, with minimal graphics. Also, why do you say "Being able to edit here is already barely possible"? DX-MON (talk) 20:20, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

I have userfied the article for DX-MON (see the message I have left on his talk page). Some advice — I do think you're coming off in a WP:BITEy way towards him, and maybe you should back off just a tiny bit. He's a new user, and he doesn't quite know the guidelines quite yet, just as you or I did not either when we both started out. He just needs some guidance in this situation. The article is probably likely going to get deleted, and because of his close attachment to the subject and lack of knowledge of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, I understand why he wouldn't be very happy about it right now. MuZemike (talk) 00:49, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Re: Problems at AfD (PokéBattlers)

Seems like someone got there before I got back online. Userfication seems like a sensible solution for now (MuZemike did a copy/paste into userspace, though - I've fixed that up). If and when it comes back into article space, hopefully it'll be suitable for an article. if not, it may need some sort of WP:AN/I note. Grutness...wha? 05:04, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
