New Section suggestion for talking to editor
Good morning Cullen328
Once again, thank you for your suggestion on how to talk by starting a new section and adding the subject/headline. Do you Wikipedia experts every sleep?
Happy Monday gagegsGagegs (talk) 16:50, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Environmental law articles ready for preliminary review
Hi Jim, I'm the Professor for Aaron Frank's environmental law class, and wanted to let you know the students now have draft articles in mainspace and are starting to review each other's articles, and they could also use a preliminary review by an experienced Wikipedian in this area. When you get a chance, ideally sometime before Thursday or so, please take a look at the following list of articles and leave feedback on the talk page:
- Federal exemptions for hydraulic fracturing
- Storm King Mountain: Consolidated Edison v. Scenic Hudson Preservation Conference
- Tennessee Valley Authority v. Hill
- American Electric Power Company v. Connecticut
- Sierra Club v. Babbitt
- Los Angeles County Flood Control District v. NRDC
- Hazardous Materials Transportation Act

Environmental Law Articles needing some attention
Hey Jim
Any chance you could take a look at these articles from the Education Program:University of San Francisco/Environmental Law (Spring 2013) Environmental Law class. These students' pages haven't been reviewed by any ambassadors and I think they could use and appreciate some feedback.
Thanks for any help you can provide! Aarf613 (talk) 06:23, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

I noticed you have been editing me on Wikipedia along with others, whom I dont know. Can you please delete my information as it is not accurate. I would also appreciate it in future that you contact me and ask me. if you need to contact me, you can email me princeabdi@comedycafe.co.uk

- Hello,
- I have done very little if any editing of the article Prince Abdi although I supported keeping the article back in February, when its deletion was being debated. I am aware that there have been ongoing problems with vandalism of the article, which I regret.
- In order to verify that you are Prince Abdi, you should go through the procedure described at WP:OTRS. I do not have the power to delete the article, and I believe that there is little chance that it will be deleted as you are a notable public figure in the UK.
- Your best course of action is to point out the specific inaccuracies that have cropped up in the article, and stay in touch with interested editors who will monitor the article and correct vandalism promptly. I am willing to help with that if you go through the OTRS procedure. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 14:18, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Request for a look at Peter Hillary's article
I now have that pesky source citing thing licked (finally memorized it) & really appreciate your advice about the sandbox. It's saved so much unnecessary going back in to fix a misplaced or missing bit of code! TYVM for suggesting that.
I've never been a climber - have vertigo - & the only mountain I've ever gone (was driven) to the top of would (of course) be the highest & windiest Northeastern peak, Mount Washington. I must admit that ride up with no guardrails was a little scary! 82F on the bottom, & a leather jacket on top where it was 40F, in August. Thought the friend I was visiting was nuts when she handed me that jacket & told me to change into jeans despite the heat. (Lake Winnipesaukee & The White Mountains of New Hampshire make for some gorgeous scenery & I was fortunate enough to go there before the Old Man fell off.)
So having begun clicking links & reading more than Krakauer shouldn't fascinate me, but it does for some reason. I can't imagine being almost 4x higher than Mount Washington, & doing it the hard way! Especially with all the risks involved & how many of them didn't make it back down. I was all *Noooo!* on one of the K2 disasters where those poor Sherpas hung by ropes all night & got rescued only to be killed anyway in another avalanche!
Looking at another of the K2 disasters sent me clicking over to Peter Hillary's article, which is badly in need of sourcing & organization (& I can't believe someone thought it was unimportant & wanted it deleted at one point! One of my best friends is a Kiwi & she would shriek if she saw that.). There was a section at the end titled Works that only bullet-pointed a single book, so I changed that to Media & listed what I could reliably source as far as books, articles, documentaries, etc (& got the footnotes to behave :-D). I also think I want to rearrange the order of the sections in addition to more sourcing & possibly more info, as it just doesn't flow properly for me. But I thought I would inquire if there's some sort of *pattern* that needs to be followed & maybe I shouldn't do that. When you have a minute, would you mind taking a look at it? TYVM in advance. (Yes, I'm long-winded, sorry.) ScarletRibbons (talk) 01:26, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- I think that the highest priority is referencing. Most of the biographical facts are unreferenced. If I was you, I would concentrate on that first, and then move on to the "bells and whistles". Cullen328 Let's discuss it 14:48, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
- OK. I've been adding sources & more current info over on Ed Viesturs today. And I did rearrange some. I think he's looking fairly good now & I can leave him be. I'll see what I can dig up to verify Peter Hillary's info. TYVM for having a look at him. ScarletRibbons (talk) 21:34, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
DYK for Morleigh Steinberg
On 6 May 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Morleigh Steinberg, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that as a choreographer and dancer, Morleigh Steinberg presented her arms as noodles, but to much of the public she is known for being next to The Edge? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Morleigh Steinberg. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Taking you up on your offer to help!
I'm new here and making mistakes. I'm grateful you answered my request for help in Teahouse. I need help with a page I'm setting up for an up and coming techie named Erick Miller. JamesBWatson is trying to get it deleted. He claims COI but I don't see how there's any COI here. I made a few mistakes and tried to fix them. The more I tried the worse it got. I'm currently in communication with Permissions for images which are my own. I just can't believe how rude people are on Wikipedia. I've met some very helpful people, too -- don't get me wrong. I need a mentor. I hope you will help me fix Erick Miller so it's not deleted.
I don't know Miller personally, but bumped into him a few times in northern and southern California. I've met people like Larry Ellison, Steve Wozniak, John Fry (businessman) and bumping into Miller left a lasting impression so I checked Wikipedia to see if he had a page. The more I dug, the more I found. I started a page for Miller and editor JamesBWatson is hammering it. I'm spending more time dealing with he and Eeekster than spending time on finding good sources for the Article. Is there anything you can do to help me? I'd really appreciate some support to get Milller's page NOT deleted. Miller is on to something big -- similar to what Steve Jobs did with Apple. Thank you, 301man (talk) 21:33, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

- Laura, a Google image search doesn't readily show copyright status, and the vast majority of such images are presumed to be non-free. There needs to be clear evidence of an acceptable Creative Commons license, and a routine Google search won't show that. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:39, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Advertising/promotion via referencing
Hi Cullen, I have stumbled across systematic editing of articles that seek to promote a company and its clients via referencing. See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?search=ttgmice&title=Special%3ASearch&fulltext=1 . Is there anywhere to act on this or is it just part and parcel of the medium. - I would be happy to see a photo of you, and am still interested in the mentorship and helping with the articles that you are interested in. I wish I could help with the access issue but obviously I can't. Because of my time and access constraints, I encourage you to build a team to work on these articles. You already have friends and collaborators. I am always willing to discuss English language usage issues with you. It seems to me that you are getting better, or maybe I am just getting used to your style. Ask for any help you need, any time. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 21:45, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

2011 Oakland General Strike
I see your note on the article about the so-called 2011 Oakland General Strike. Agreed: it doesn't meet the definition at all, and to call it such is POV. The question is: what to do about it? Bkalafut (talk) 21:31, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the question. I will think about it, but am very busy with my "real world" job right now. Why don't you invite User:Carrite into this conversation. He's our best labor history editor, in my opinion. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 22:20, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
- The description is accurate, I think, see THIS post-facto description of the shutdown as a "General Strike." General Strikes need not be universally observed — or even broadly observed — to be General Strikes. A General Strike is merely a multi-union work action appealing for a broader public to similarly shut down their own economic participation. General Strikes may be very small in practice like Oakland 2011 or they may be very large and relatively universal in observance like, say Seattle 1919 and Winnipeg 1919. Carrite (talk) 01:47, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
- "General" is the type of strike, in other words, not a commentary on the level of participation in it or its duration or effectiveness... General strikes generally fizzle fast... Carrite (talk) 01:50, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
- I appreciate your insights, Tim. Thank you. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 07:53, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

An idea
Hey Jim, it struck me that MALLEUS IS PERMABANNED!!! would make a good news story for the Signpost — with the meat of the story relating to the criticism of anonymity that caused the change. I'll bet Dennis Brown would offer some good thoughts on the topic, too. Any interest in you writing that? I've been running my mouth a little too much lately, I'm not the guy to do the deed — but I'll bet you big bucks that there's an interesting interview to be done there... Do think about it, this is a good moment to make some real headway against the Cult of Anonymity in people's hearts and minds... Carrite (talk) 05:53, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Tim, I think that is a great idea, but I simply don't have time in the next few days to write such an article. I am attending a memorial service tomorrow for my wife's cousin, who died recently at the age of 100 (we should both live so long), and immediately thereafter, we are heading to Coalinga, California, far from home, to work for a couple of days on a very challenging job. As you may or may not know, I am self-employed, and barely survived the recession. Business is now booming again, and the people I owe money to expect me to work hard in order to pay them back. As does my wife, as we need to buy groceries and sneakers for the kids. A few minutes of editing on a smart phone while taking a lunch break or before drifting off to sleep is fine. Writing an article for the Signpost is more than I can handle right now. But the idea is a good one, and perhaps Eric might take it on. Or Dennis Brown. And I would be happy to provide a quote or an observation or two. Thank you for thinking of me. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 06:23, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
- Жаль! Glad business is looking up again. My wife and I own a shoe store and I can certify that the recession sucked... Carrite (talk) 16:58, 19 May 2013 (UTC)
revise hook on DYK for Vaillancourt Fountain
Hi there. The reviewer of the Template:Did you know nominations/Vaillancourt Fountain DYK nomination I put up is looking for a rephrased or alternate hook. - Laura, if I ever get mad at you, which is very unlikely, I will let you know. It is tough for me to do high quality research with a smart phone, which is what I am using now. I was traveling for nearly a week, and have had tough jobs the past two days. But I made good money. So, in the past ten days, I have only had about 15 minutes of time with a desktop computer. I will be traveling on business from Sunday through Tuesday, with the same smart phone challenges. But I will try to find time this weekend to do some research on Cedars of Lebanon. You don't have to ask me if I am online or able to help you. Just ask a question - any question - and I will answer as soon as I can. OK? so let me repeat. I am not mad at you at all. Not one bit. quest
what's the difference between arse and ass??- i ask this question because i often read that Bono and Larry says the first instead the second. Miss Bono (zootalk) 19:18, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
- "Arse" is British (and Irish) slang. "Ass" is American English. Though the meanings are slightly different between the variations, I think the meanings are pretty similar. In American English, the literal meaning is a donkey, especially a large donkey. The next meaning is a person's rear end. It means the buttocks, the two rounded, padded parts, and it can also mean the anus, and there is sexual slang connected with that. The third meaning is an insult for a person. An "ass" is someone who is rude and irritating and maybe not very intelligent and someone who doesn't care about other people's feelings. The variation "asshole" is even more insulting and vulgar. "Pain in the ass" means a person or situation that is so irritating that it is comparable to physical pain in that part of the body. That is all American usage. It may vary somewhat in other English speaking countries. Hope this helps. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 20:53, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah. Thanks!! So hard to understand slangs... I was asking Theroadislong for a phrase that I read from Bono: "I was naked as a jay bird". Miss Bono (zootalk) 12:34, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- haha someone signed my guestbook lol J/K Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:07, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Another Language Quest
Why sometimes I read "yer" or "ye" instead of "your" and "you"?? Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:14, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- "Yer" is just a slang spelling that imitates some regional accents in the United States. The Rolling Stones had a concert album called "Get Yer YaYa's Out". "Ye" is usually an attempt to imitate old typography going back a couple hundred years for "The". There was a "th" symbol formerly used that looks like a "y". So if someone has a business that has a colonial era theme, they might name it "Ye Olde Village Market", since "olde" is an old-fashioned spelling for "old". People play around with spellings a lot these days, so you might see these spellings in other contexts, but this is what comes to mind. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:32, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks! The most of the times I see them in U2 related things (What it doesn't surprise you?? :P), as in fanfiction where the write a line said by Bono the use aLwAyS "yer" and "ye" Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:50, 20 May 2013 (UTC)
- What about the "naked as a jay bird" expression. Bono used it once while telling a story. And this one "Line them up", used for Bono as well.. Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:52, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Hall of Fame!
Hey Jim. I was thinking... does U2 have a star at Hollywood's Hall of Fame?? Can anybody take a picture of it and add some information to the article?? How far do you live from L.A?? Miss Bono (zootalk) 13:03, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Laura, according to the Hollywood Walk of Fame website, there is no star for U2 or Bono. I am certain they are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, which I visited in 1997. Hollywood is about 385 miles south of my home, which is 620 kilometers, and takes 6-1/2 hours to drive. I don't go there often. We have List of stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It is heavy on movie and TV stars, and musical performers are a minority. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:40, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, they are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 2005. I need to get a picture. I'll find something. We got response from Morleigh herself and she will give us a picture of her as soon as she finds a good one. It is a shem I couldn't find her email and do the negotiations by myself. I will try to do the same thing with Ali Hewson to see if I have success. Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:47, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- That is good news, and it isn't a "shame" you couldn't do it since your access is so limited. This is a collaboration. I got home very late last night but did finish my project successfully. I hope to do more research later today. Take care. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:53, 22 May 2013 (UTC)
- Congratulations!! As for Morleigh and Ali's subject I could do it having the email address, remember I have an email account, that is way to make that negotiation. Just email them and wait for a response. I feel sad and depressed. I'll post you something in the mentorship page, maybe you could be my psychologist for a while... Miss Bono (zootalk) 16:01, 22 May 2013 (UTC)

The Living Years (song)
Hi Cullen, I am seeking feedback on The Living Years (song) . To avoid an edit war I have taken my point to Talk:The_Living_Years_(song) to try and explain my concern after failing to resolve the matter at User talk:2.219.211.186 (discussion was blanked). I may be missing something (wouldn't be the first time) but I'd appreciate your review. Thanks Flat Out Let's discuss it 11:59, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- I agree with you, and it is clear that a Wikilink to our article about a TV show is not an acceptable reference for something that supposedly happened on that show. And is it worth mentioning that a maudlin personality known for writing a tear-jerking novelty song cried on TV when a sad song was performed? I doubt it. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:42, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Jim , That said if I make the edit I am likely to get reverted by the same editor who uses edit summaries to attack. I'll leave it a couple of days then go back to it. Thanks for your rv. Flat Out let's discuss it 22:39, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

EDUN and Gavin Friday
I am working now on these two articles. I need help. First I need to fill completely the infobox for EDUN. Now I am doing some research for Gavin Friday in my caopy of U2 by U2. Give me your thoughts. Miss Bono (zootalk) 14:52, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
- I will be happy to help over the weekend, but I need to get to work now. To start out, who is Gavin Friday? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 15:07, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
- Gavin Friday is a very close friend with Bono, but first of all is an Irish singer and songwriter, composer, actor and painter. He has his article here Gavin Friday, I just added the early life section. His home page is gavinfriday.com Miss Bono (zootalk) 15:10, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

Harry Yount Edits
You're more than welcome! There seemed to be an edit conflict at one stage - being new to the format it was difficult for me to discern immediately what the conflict was, so I hope the resolution was okay. Interesting to learn about Mr Yount anyway. Sallyrooney (talk) 22:59, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- An edit conflict is an irritating shortcoming in the wiki software. If you work on a lengthy edit, and someone else jumps in with a quick edit before you save, your edit won't get saved properly. There is ongoing discussion about software upgrades that would reduce the problem. Yeah, Yount was a real character, wasn't he? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 23:05, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Jim - It was a pleasure meeting you on Saturday at the editathon. Harry Yount seems like quite the character and a "cool dude"; good luck with the GA. It would be nice to collaborate with you on an article down the road. Cheers, --Rosiestep (talk) 15:53, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

I was telling Theroadislong that I was thinking about giving him/her a proper welcoming and talking about adding references to any information that one add to Wikipedia. I need your thoughts on this. There would have be probably someone telling him/her the rules here, because if it's good information there would be fair to have it BUT with a good source. I've created an article: Chocabeck and fixed another 2 articles about football soccer players. Did you get my emails?? Please, reply. Miss Bono (zootalk) 17:11, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Laura, Chocabeck is a good start, but of course it needs references. Since I know nothing about football (soccer) except how much other people enjoy it, I will stay away from those. Tonight, I will search for sources on Chocabeck and Edun. Try to find an Italian speaking editor to help with the album. More later. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 18:52, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi!! :D Need to know about whether I can email User:Arcanecollective or not. I started User:Miss Bono/Arcane Collective and this user might be helpful about filling the infobox or something, but I need your permission... I asked you about that. Miss Bono (zootalk) 18:59, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- Post a draft of an email to Arcane Collective on the other page. Using my smart phone, I see plenty of news coverage of Chocabeck in Italian, plus a couple in German and one in Russian. It is tough for me to evaluate the reliability of sources in other languages unless I recognize the name of a major respected publication.Cullen328 Let's discuss it
- See the last discussion in the talk of Theroadislong and see what he has said. do you share that thought?? I have a Russian wikifriend who could translate the russian references, I am currently looking for an italian editor. By the other page you mean the MSP?? Miss Bono (zootalk) 19:12, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
