ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:21, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Good evening, I have seen you reverted my edit on the page, restoring the sentence which says he is an accurate penalty taker. However, this information is now inappropriate, considering all the penalties he recently failed such as the ones for which Italy did not qualify for the World Cup. So I think it should be removed anyway. Let me know what you think. Kind regards 151.57.84.14 (talk) 19:40, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Warning editors

Hello, please warn new editors when reverting their edits. This is a very important action. You recently reverted an edit here but the same editor added their edits back. They have no idea why their edit was undone as you have not left a message on their talk page, nor left an edit summary explaining the problems with the edit. Not letting people know why there edits were reverted will leave them very confused. Please always give editors warnings or a message when reverting their edits. Anti Heros Wiki

Greetings. This is Philip Solomon and I am the drummer for the band anti heros. The band has recently reformed, performing tour dates in Europe, Canada and US and is working on new material. The edits I made earlier to our Wikipedia listing, was in attempt to update with the most current and relevant information. While I understand the desire for neutrality in the listing, I'm not sure what part of it was out of the appropriate parameters. AntiHero222 (talk) 16:32, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Well for starters there is content such as:

The Anti Heros were America’s first authentic Oi!/Streetpunk band.

The Anti Heros always had a concise and honest message to deliver and being proponents of the American way of life...

... blended that influence with British Oi! To create their unique sound of truly American Oi!

And then there is a conflict of interest, since you are involved with the band, which creates a concern. If you'd like to update the article to say that the band have re-formed and are touring and recording, that can easily be added to the existing content without making it look like you are promoting the band. ... discospinster talk 16:36, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Person editing his own page

An editor, on a page you are editing - where you have to revert him constantly - is clearly the person the page is about. If this were not clear from his edits, and the fact that he only edits his page, it is clear from his name, and his admission in edit summary that the page is about him. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ivan_Lee&diff=prev&oldid=1191993195

As explained on the Talk page: This section only lists the Yankees and Giants (NFL), then claims "four teams in the four major sports". This statement is completely wrong about New York sports, as is clear from the rest of the article.

Hello Discospinster Thank you for your message regarding the recent changes I made to the Maryam Kalali article. I understand your concern about sourcing and Wikipedia's policies. However, I want to clarify that I included citations from reliable sources in my edit. I am concerned that the removal of my contribution might have been a bit hasty. Could we possibly revisit this? I believe the information added is valuable and sourced appropriately. If there are specific issues with the sources I provided, I would be grateful for your guidance on how to address them. Additionally, if my edits appeared to be a personal commentary or analysis, that was not my intention, and I would appreciate your advice on how to rephrase them to meet Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. Wayne Pacelle page

Greetings, Discospinster. Thank you for your feedback on my edit of the page for Wayne Pacelle. Indeed, it was a hard edit. I have a professional relationship with Mr. Pacelle, and we knew going into the edit that keeping it balanced would be appropriate and necessary. For example, we were certain to leave in details about his tumultuous departure from HSUS, doubtless the most controversial and difficult part of his bio.

What we focused on was removing some quotes from people who weren't proximate to the HSUS matter. I believe the appearance of Jim Greenbaum was specifically objectionable to us.

Is there any specific guidance you can offer to help us make the edit be more balanced? Your feedback would be welcomed, and you may consider us earnest and pliant respondents as we work to adhere to Wikipedia's editorial standards.

Thank you. JosephGrove (talk) 21:06, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

Mustafa Gatollari Page

Hi...In regards to the flagged and removed photos, I DO have full permission from the copyright owner to use.

As far as I know, I have followed all rules. However, I don't understand the Wiki-procedures in submitting proof that the image File:1208-MustafaGatollari-sw.jpg is okay to use. Perhaps access to a DIRECT release form can help with this. It IS safe to use according to Haunted Discoveries, the owners of the copyright.

As for the other message...although unspecific for me fully understand what the problem is...I will try to see what I can do make changes. Hauntedbyhistory (talk) 13:04, 7 February 2024 (UTC)

RS vs editorial

I don't believe that a fully speculative editorial is a "report." For questionable material, we should only use RSs. 2603:7000:2101:AA00:95FD:29F8:EB8A:7855 (talk) 03:09, 13 February 2024 (UTC)

I will look at those when I get a chance. But an editorial by the editors of the publication is not a reliable source for statements of fact as to there being a suspicion in a section entitled Relay station used as a CIA black site. And if one is going to write "it has been claimed" in a case in which the other side flatly denies it, it stands to reason that one would want to say claimed [by whom?] ... and what the deniers say. The Origins of Walking Football.

Hi, I tried to reinstate the origins of Walking football that had been deleted several versions ago. I am the chairman of Senior Spireites Walking Football Club based in Chesterfield, we are the first Walking Football Club in the World. I am also in possesion of the original register of players 18th June 2012. I could attach a png, file of the register but I don't know how to. It is globally known that Walking football was invented by John Croot of Chesterfield FC Community Trust. However, this fact was removed by somebody (possibly disgruntled)in a nearby town (Mansfield). Regarding 172.58.209.83 who you had to revert yesterday. The person using that IP is a persistent banned editor that hops IP addresses. 103.171.44.94 ; 45.8.146.82 ; 91.192.81.61 ; 185.104.63.112 ; 103.171.44.94 ; 2A02:27AA:0:0:0:0:0:1571 and others. The editor behind these IP addresses and occasional sock accounts usually edits in the area of pages about various ethnic groups, with a particular focus on the Roma. At any time they will be using three or more IP addresses. About 50% of their edits are actually reasonable, but they have been banned for edit warring, using multiple addresses, persistently adding unreferenced or questionably sourced information after being warned, occasional vandalism, etc. 🌿MtBotany (talk) 16:58, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Just because Jessica Alba has distant Mayan ancestry does not mean that she is a good fit to represent Maya Americans. Indigenous American identity is much more about maintaining links with an indigenous community, maintaining links to an indigenous culture, and perhaps speaking an indigenous language than ancestry alone (especially distant ancestry). Jessica Alba does not meet the criteria for any of that. Trust me I am an expert on indigenous Latin American immigrants in the United States and have met Maya Americans myself. Besides having a single person let alone a celebrity with distant roots to an ethnic group represent an entire ethnic group (especially one that is indigenous) is extremely ignorant, unethical, and just overall a poor decision. Stop adding Jessica Alba's image and I will replace it with a collage more representative of Maya Americans. Whoever keeps adding her image back is clearly very ignorant about Maya Americans, indigenous American identity, indigenous identity in Guatemala, and the complexities of race, ethnicity, and skin color in Latin America including Guatemala and indigenous peoples. Having Jessica Alba be the sole face of Maya Americans is not much different from having an image of Elizabeth Warren be the single image representing Cherokee people on the Cherokee Wikipedia page. If you adding her image I will keep removing it and I will eventually replace it with a collage of everyday Maya American or an image that is much more representstive of Maya Americans (including people who maintain community links to their indigenous roots and maintain their indigenous Mayan culture) such as this image: https://static.wixstatic.com/media/fc13c2_fe25b7ddaa12434eb4dc054ad7910e81~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_640,h_382,al_c,q_80,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_auto/fc13c2_fe25b7ddaa12434eb4dc054ad7910e81~mv2.jpg or this image https://i0.wp.com/eltecolote.org/content/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Mam_07-WEB.jpg?w=864&ssl=1 rather than some celebrity who does not maintain links with her indigenous Mayan heritage, did not grow up in an indigenous Mayan community, and did not grow up learning an indigenous Mayan language (though being fluent in an indigenous language is not necessary to be accepted as a mber of an indigenous community it certainly helps). By continuing to add her image you are insulting Maya Americans and I would even say being racist towards Maya Americans. Ancestry alone does not mean you are "indigenous" as Elizabeth Warren clearly proves. Having community attachment and/or tribal affiliation does signify indigenous identity. Please educate yourself on indigenous identity in United States, Mexico, and Latin America and stop being so ignorant! 67.6.128.161 (talk) 20:48, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

About warning users

Hey Discospinster! I noticed a user whose edits you'd reverted multiple times without leaving a warning on their talk page. A quick look through your contribs shows me a lot of IPs with redlinked talk pages. Please make sure you're leaving editors warnings when you're doing counter-vandalism work; as you might know, a lot of anonymous editors don't have enough of a background with wikis to know to check the revision history when one of their edits is reverted, and so will not know what they did wrong without a talk page message. From a counter-vandalism standpoint, reports at AIV are often declined if the user has not received sufficient warning for their prior edits. Please make sure you're warning any users you revert in the future, and let me know if you have any questions! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 22:26, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Ah, glad to hear that. 🇺🇲JayCubby✡ please edit my user page! Talk 21:24, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Haven't used this "contact an admin" feature before

So I hope I'm doing it correctly. There's an editor, Milladrive (talk · contribs), at Robin Williams's article who is claiming their obviously incorrect comma usage is, in fact, correct. They have reverted seven (not all of my recent edits there, strangely). Would you mind taking a peek to ensure I'm not losing my mind? Seasider53 (talk) 02:13, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

I'm not "strangely" using the feature, because I have other things to think about in life.

It is Seasider53 who knows little about how to use a comma, and I suggest he learns to defer to those who do.

I have replied on Milladrive (talk · contribs)'s talk page. ... discospinster talk 02:33, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Edit warring

Thank you for blocking editor Risa Taryn talk contribs‎ for repeatedly deleting sourced factual information in the article Brock Blomberg. I see that this account was created last year and has only edited this one article. Is there a potential COI in their efforts to remove possible embarrassing (but true) information from the article? Ohelcuepee (talk) 20:16, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Kiryas Joel is not a city.

Kiryas Joel is not a city in our region. Poughkeepsie and Newburgh are actual cities. Kiryas Joel is a religious village that has no standing whatsoever. Calling it a principal city and naming it at all on the wiki page outside of being a village is disingenuous to what the truth is. Please revert the wiki page to show what the truth is. 96.249.216.148 (talk) 00:55, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

If you have a concern about what the article is about, you can take it up on the talk page. It won't help to remove the name of the village from the article when it's the title of the article. ... discospinster talk 01:00, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Sources

Sorry. I'm new here and am not trying to vandalize the site. I think the MRND should be defined as far-right, based on its ideology. MopaneWorms (talk) 01:05, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Is there a reliable source that describes the MRND as far right? ... discospinster talk 01:21, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Not directly AFAIK, but based on its Hutu Power ideology, its social conservatism, its anti-communism, its totalitarianism and use of propaganda, I think it safely meets the definition of far-right. The party is already describe as such in its Wikibox.

Important edits: Vanessa Vie

Dear DiscoSpinster, my name is Vanessa Vie and was Michael Horovitz's partner in life and work from 2012 to 2021. You can see references to us in the Guardian Obituary 2021, and JazzWise magazine, and other diverse articles and links in Google. I am currently working on his literary and artistic archives. And I am fully aware of Michael's wishes and biographical details. Apart from wanting to please register a small detail about our relationship, please note that his British passport name, and how he was known internationally, and when he received his OBE, etc was not by his Hebrew name, but as Michael W. Horovitz. It was me who discovered his full Hebrew name when I organised the funeral. So it is okay for this Y. Levi name to appearance how he was born, but not as how he was known since he was 3 years old. It confuses readers, and followers of his work. It was his wish his name appears as Michael W Horovitz. Also --- you have deleted the reference to my book Open Windows, Open Doors which was printed by New Departures, and edited by Michael Horovitz in 2020. You can see references to this book in Google. It is still selling very well in Waterstones London. So I do not know who you are, or if you are British but the information I am hereby sharing with you is correct, and accurate. My manager Roslyn ArTime has tried to slightly edit some details, and we can see that some other people have tried to add details about our professional and personal partnership and you always delete it. Is there any reason for it? Can you please help us to proceed? What have we got to do? We look forward to hearing from you. Yours Respectfully Vanessa Vie. Ps: Michael was not an Arsenal Football Club fan. This information which you have accepted as part of Michael's personal information is is not correct. Roslyn Artime (talk) 10:55, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

You will still need to include reliable third-party sources to include information in a biography. Please see WP:BLP to read about the policy. ... discospinster talk 17:15, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Further: Michael Horovitz & Vanessa Vie

Dear Discospinter, thank you for your reply. You tell me to source material but you have got some information in Michael's page whichnis not accurate. For example, William Burroughs was not present not read in the Royal Hall 65' Poetrt event. Regarding his name, Michael would be upset hos Wikipedia introduces him by his hebrew name, because he was naturalised in Britain as Michael W. Horovitz when he was three years old. He grew up with that name, and received the OBE under that name. All his 9 othe siblings never used their Hebrew names once they were in Britain. So the information in your page is wrong. It is enough if you want to use his Hebrew name in personal details "box" but not to head his whole Wikipedia page. Please remove his Hebrew name from the top. No-one knows this. Maybe you are jewish, and proud of it, so am I, but Wikipedia reflects the artist not other obscure aspects which only mud the information. Discospinster, I can send you reviews of my book too in Interntional times, and Timeout etc...

Please let me know if you can open the links

Thanks for your help

And BTW I insist, Michael was not an Arsenal Supporter. There are other wonderful important and intesting things to say about Mike apart from half truths like these, that are missing

It is just crossing my mind .. are you Adam Samuels ...

Look forward to hearing from you. Roslyn Artime (talk) 18:42, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

The Guardian and Jazzwise articles are probably the only ones that could be considered a reliable source and that also support the information you're adding to the article. The documents on Google Drive I cannot access, but they would not be appropriate to link to anyway since they're not properly published. ... discospinster talk 00:03, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

Further

Dear DiscoSpinster, thank you. We are getting closer to an auspicious betterment of Michael's Wikipedia page.

There is another publication that makes reference to Mike & Vanessa Vie: The Oldie Magazine (25th August 2021) https://www.theoldie.co.uk/article/funeral-service-michael-horovitz-1935-2021-james-hughes-onslow

Now we've got links to:-- Guardian, Writeoutloud Jazzwise Oldie

All these links corroborate out personal & Professional relationships of nearly 11 years. This without counting the years I've remained his partner, and comrade after his death. I know media don't like romanticism much, but we were, are true Soul-mates.

Now, here are some published links to my book which was New Departures's last publication to-date, and which was co-edited by Michael. Michael would want this book to appear with his "official" archives. He invested a lot of love, time, and money on it:---

https://hepworthwakefield.org/whats-on/new-departures/

There are more links and articles about us, our work, publications, performances, exhibitions et cetera but I do not want to overwhelm you. I hope all these links suffice to add: 1. Information about out personal and professional life.

2. Information about my book, and last New Departures publication to-date (although I am managing New Departures myself now and I'll be bringing forth a new publication, and recording of song, verse, and improvisations by Michael & myself as soon as the studio has the tracks ready. Title: Lirycal Soulmates Unanimous")

3.Information about Michael's name. Michael W. Horovitz wasn't only how he was known professionaly, but as he was known even by his own mother Rosie Horovitz, period. We need to change the opening name. His hebrew name should only appear in the general personal details boxed info: born: ...)

4. Information about the 1965 poetry Incarnation. William Burroughs was not present. He was not even in London by that date.

5. Add members of the William Blake Klezmatrix. Michael's band members were jazz saxophonist Annie Whitehead, and jazz pianist Peter Lemer. Later on I was always a featured guest [as per the Jazzwise link]

6. Michael was not an Arsenal Football Club fanatic. He did not like football much. The only time he had some input into football was when he wrote his book the Wolverhampton Wanderer...

DiscoSpinster, let us go ahead with the edits. Do I do it. You do it. If I do, have I got to introduce the reference links. If so, how do I do it--?

Once we do the above changes, I'll revie the article again a d look for inaccuracies, and for other important missing informatation. As I told younI am currently working on his archives, and will be giving a lecture in the university of Oxford (next year) about his work, (and to a lesser extent) his life.

I look forward to hearing from you

With thanks in advance

Yours Respectfully

R.A c/o Vanessa Vie

Ps: I was born in Asturias, Norther Spain, but I hold double nationality: British,& Spanish. My birh name is M Vanessa F Alvarez. But my pen, and artistic name is Vanessa Vie. Roslyn Artime (talk) 01:58, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

National Guard

The National Guard definitely has veterans. Even before that law, hundreds of thousands of National Guard members were deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, and many other past conflicts. In the absence of another law, Al Bundy would need a citation, though. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 02:00, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
