Deletion something

Hello there. From the history of WT:AFD, you are quite active there. I am about to write a proposal there (currently in User:Krator/Sandbox4), but I would like some feedback from people I actually know will be sensible about it, and are knowledgeable in the area. I'm cross-posting this at both User talk:Dihydrogen Monoxide and User talk:Seraphimblade, as I happen to remember you two. Thanks in advance, User:Krator (t c) 00:30, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Replied on your talk page.  — Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 09:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

More Misery

I've nominated my first article for deletion, and owe it all to you. Misery (Australian band) has been nominated for deletion. I am looking forward to eliminating more good qaulity, useful, and valuable information. Stay the course. Nanabozho 03:09, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Except this one will survive xD.  — Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 09:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Powderfinger

Hi. I wanted to talk to you about this edit. Album covers are not fair use in band articles, no matter what the captions say. This is a breach of our rules on non-free images. I am disappointed in you for restoring the bad edit, and particularly with the rude edit summary you used. I'd be interested in what extra meaning you feel the little Australia flag adds to the article, beyond what Australia already tells us, seeing you restored that too. And Myspace, you restored that too; do you feel the link to Myspace is important to readers of this article? Please see WP:EL, assuming you aren't familiar with it. Well done at least for not restoring the trivia. --John 14:26, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Logo qa.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Logo qa.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chris Btalk 16:29, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Powderfinger

Yes, that would be Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria #3: "As few non-free content uses as possible are included in each article and in Wikipedia as a whole. Multiple items are not used if one will suffice; one is used only if necessary." Although I see you've tried to legitimise departing from this guideline in your rationale here, for example, any time it has ever been previously discussed, the consensus has been that album covers are fair use in the article on the album only. Not in the band article, not in the discography article, as some have tried to maintain. See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Music/MUSTARD#Images and notation: "The {{album cover}} tag establishes fair use only in an article about the album in question." --John 15:06, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Question

Wondering if you can help me, I'm asking as you live in Brisbane - what would a Brisbane person see as the key suburban centres in the metropolitan area? I've got Redcliffe, Strathpine, Ipswich, Capalaba, Cleveland and Beenleigh, and of course Brisbane CBD, but looking for others, especially in the Brisbane City Council area. (Note this is for an offline project so I'm not that worried about WP:RS) Cheers Orderinchaos 16:44, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Centenary, Indro, is about all I can think of. See your talk page. Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 02:39, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey H20

Hey H20, good to hear from you. Yeah I've been very busy with other things lately. Haven't had too much time lately to edit wikipedia. But I check it regularly to see what's been happening. Did you notice that Process This has a deletion notice? Hopefully we'll get those 2 articles at FA. Slabba 23:06, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Gah, I saw that prod. Not sure if I fully agree with it, see your talk page. Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 02:39, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I dunno, I guess there really isn't much info on it though, but it does tie it all together having a page for all of the songs from that album. Also, I'm not sure if I like the "cut-down" version of the Powderfinger template that User:John has made without a list of all songs. Maybe we'll have to create a new page with other Powderfinger links otherwise you'll never be able to find those pages, if you get my drift. Because songs like These Days (Powderfinger song) are important imo. Slabba 03:46, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I'll let you revert, and deal with his wrath lol :-) Slabba 03:50, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Good work, I just noticed that he flagged a few other songs for deletion i.e. Sink Low and Belter. I dunno what we should do re. this, they're not really notable in any way I guess Slabba 03:58, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I've just had a look at Young Modern and made a few changes. Mainly the track listing table, and a few grammar and ref changes. I reckon you will need to read through it and add some more refs throughout. As there are some points that need backing up. Slabba 04:24, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Album covers in band articles, again

I am sorry we disagreed recently about fair use of album covers in band articles. Even though I disagreed with you, some of the points you made have (slightly) changed my thinking on the subject. I thought you might be interested in this discussion, and I have referred there to our debate at Talk:Powderfinger. I hope that by discussing the matter centrally we may come to a better project-wide consensus about this issue, to avoid it being discussed again and again in the future by people who would probably rather be improving the encyclopedia. Best wishes, --John 05:10, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Interesting...replied on your talk. Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 00:41, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry Dihydrogen Monoxide, I should have responded earlier. Anyway, I don't think the article would qualify for GA at the moment; there's still some things that need sourcing and tidying up. I haven't worked on the article to get it to GA; I was just doing it to improve it overall. :) Fortunately, there are no edit wars on the page. If you can help source and improve the article and bring it to a GA, by all means: it'll be appreciated. However, I won't be doing much on the article for the next few days, as I won't be very active. Thanks. Acalamari 01:41, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Help from Giggabot?

Hey man, can I get you to do me a favour? Can you run Giggabot to update all occurrences of WP:RAD that occur within a piped link to be converted into User:Lincalinca (my user page). I have been using it for ages, but it's just been pulled down, but temporarily reinstated to allow me to update, and you're the only one I know (other than Jogers) who has a bot (and I know you better than I know him). Thanks mate! --lincalinca 09:29, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

Reply to Adminship question

Hi there. I responded on my own talk page, but figured I'd reply here as well. Thank you for considering me for an RfA! I'm definitely interested. I referenced User:Andrevan as having expressed interest in nominating me once before, but at that time I'd recently been in a dispute with another user that didn't go so well, so I figured it would be best to wait a little while. That's passed now.

Also, I'm not sure what your project involvement is, but I'm most active in Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games. If you can garner the support of admins in that project, that'd be awesome! :) — KieferSkunk (talk) — 15:43, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the nomination. I accept. :) — KieferSkunk (talk) — 00:03, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

(sigh) I find it discouraging that I'm getting quite a bit of opposition based solely on my answer to the first question and my level of "experience". It seems that, once again, quantity of edits is more important than quality. If it goes on like this much more, I may consider asking to have the RfA withdrawn, because as one person pointed out, "it has a slim chance of succeeding". :( — KieferSkunk (talk) — 21:58, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Transfusion

Wow, you've done heaps there. I don't really know what I could add to it. I lost my CD of Transfusion years ago when moving (I lived in one place for 9 years, then 9 places in one year, so it's probably still at one of those places). I think most important would be to add the track times, but I'd only be guessing. "Reap What You Sow" is the best song on the EP, hands down, but opinion isn't what you're after. I'll see what I can scratch up, though. --lincalinca 00:57, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Holy moly...nice job! :-) Love, Neranei (talk) 01:04, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
I've done some work on it: I found track lengths, production teams and most importantly, the release date. I need to double-check the track length for the last track, because it may have been picking up the track length from the wrong track. Right now I'm working on a chart table too, so it looks more like a real album page, though it's really pretty much there now. --lincalinca 05:27, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, any help is appreciated! --Chris  G  02:54, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I've just done some re-vamping on the side projects page (it pretty much looks like a user page or the main page, now) but it was just like putting 4 little stub-leads into one article. So I've laid them out so it doesn't actually look like that's what it is. Because this is somewhat unprecedented, there's not really a basis for us to work from, but we should really try to decide what we want to achieve with the page. By this I mean, do we want it to be an exhaustive article going into all of the side-projects in and outs, or do we want to leave it all stubby? --lincalinca 10:22, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Guess what?

I just got a new cd. And it's an old CD. Sadly it has not case, sleeve or anything, but musically, it's damn sweet. I wonder if it'd be appropriate to put one of the songs from the Blue EP on its article as a sample? This EP is great: it's just like Double Allergic, and to me, that's their best stuff, even now. --lincalinca 13:29, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

But of course... if you ever came onto bloody msn (mind you, I've been lazy on msn lately, myself). lincalinca 07:16, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
  • I can't be bothered to create a new header, so this will just do. Remember that DVD that had 11 of the band's videos? I think it was included on Dream Days or something... perhaps the sleeve of that DVD had some notes about directors and production companies of the music videos themselves. ~ Sebi 09:49, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

List of Powderfinger side projects

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article List of Powderfinger side projects, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. Grim 03:37, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Dearest Opposer,

Thank you for your participation in my RFA, which closed unsuccessfully with 39 supports, 15 oppose, and 1 neutral. I would have liked to gain some experience of being an admin, but it wasn't to be. At least I gained some valuable time there and will use my knowledge picked up to my next candidacy. I would like to say once again, thank you for voting and I hope to see you at my next request be it a nomination or self-induced, I hope I don't get as many questions!

Mass rename

I've just renamed Template:Architecture to Template:WikiProject Architecture so it's in line with similar templates, but it appears I can no longer do autosaves in AutoWikiBrowser (they seem to be restricted to bots). A real pain since that would mean renaming the lot of them with manual confirmation - all 8000 of them. Any chance Giggabot could jump in and help me out? If not, do you know a bot that can help me? - Mgm|(talk) 18:19, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia has a second Carlos admin

Is something like this what you had in mind when you were saying how ugly that portal was? I agreed. I haven't touched the content, just changed teh colours and fixed the layout (someone broke it, it seems). If there's an MCR portal, why don't we have a Powderfinger portal? --lincalinca 12:30, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject tagging

Like NeraBot, I'd like to run a WikiProject tagging bot (basically a copy of Giggabot). Can I have the xml settings files you mentioned in his approval request as well? I tend to hang out at backwater articles about obscure topics, so I might come across articles that need project tagging that other people might not come across. - Mgm|(talk) 21:37, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Successful RfA - Thank you!

Thank you so much for nominating me for Adminship. The RfA passed 42/8/2. :) — KieferSkunk (talk) — 23:14, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Linca's RfA

You said "I'd like to point out that you said that my comments in that debate had, to some extent, changed your thinking. Yet my comments went as far against the fair use policy as Linc's, if we're going to look at it that way. Did they change your thinking, or are you just ignoring that now?"

I want to respond, but I don't think that the RfA page is the best place to do it. Your comments did indeed change my thinking very slightly, as you made good arguments (I thought) about the images themselves being potentially notable if, for example, they had won awards as images, especially if the band could be shown to have had a major input into the creation of the images. At this point, I think it does become arguably a reasonable fair use of the image. Had we been unable to find free images to illustrate the article, I might have supported the inclusion of one or two of the covers in the article. As it happens we were able to find free images and I genuinely think the article looks better all round that way. The best illustration of a band is images of the band, not their record sleeves, and free images always trump fair. But to that one extent you did change my thinking on the subject, something I think I thanked you for, and I thank you again.

You are quite right to acknowledge that your and Linca's side of that discussion probably contradicted the spirit of the policy though. If you were running for admin at the moment, and I didn't see many admin-type edits from you (I haven't reviewed your contributions in this case, as you are not), I would probably weak-oppose too. Absolutely nothing personal about it, but I could not support sysoping someone who was arguing against policy just a few weeks ago. This alone would not make me oppose, it would probably be neutral as I do see evidence of, as the applicant says, having 'got it', but combined with the absence of evidence with familiarity with the nitty-gritty nature of admin work it makes me regretfully oppose. No prejudice against standing again when a little time has passed and the user has demonstrated good understanding of policy. No offence to either of you, as I know you do good work here.

Best wishes, --John 06:21, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure that they are true, and that whoever added it had read a newsletter or some report, etc, but we still need that source. And thanks for your co-operation on that bolding issue... sorry... and a late congratulations for the 3 DYKs you and Linca created :) Kudos — Sebi 09:17, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

I'm reluctant to revert again, but in the Singles part of the Discography section, I chose one single from each year... I hope that's not such a problem, and that the Singles can be included again. ~ Sebi 09:09, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I suppose it's the best option. Nice sig, btw :) ~ Sebi 09:22, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
