Recent changes
- There is a new tag for reverted edits. For example you can see it in the recent changes feed or in the article history. It is added to edits when they have been undone, rollbacked or manually reverted to an older version of the page. [1][2]
Changes later this week
- The number of times you can do something in a period of time on wiki is limited. This could be the number of edits per minute or the number of users you email in a day. Some users are not affected by all limits because of their user rights. They could soon see the limit even if it does not affect them. [3]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 22 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 23 September. It will be on all wikis from 24 September (calendar).

Recent changes
- Admins can now see links to diffs of deleted revisions on Special:AbuseLog. This uses the interface of Special:Undelete. [4]
- Editors are automatically added to some user groups. For example editors are added to autoconfirmed users when they have edited enough times and long enough. Abuse filters can hinder users from automatically getting user rights for a period of time. They can also remove rights user have. Wikis can now ask to change how long this period of time is for their wiki in Phabricator. It is currently five days. [5]
Problems
- Last year some abuse filters stopped working because of a new change. If they tried to use variables that were unavailable for that action they would fail. This has now been fixed. [6]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 September. It will be on all wikis from 1 October (calendar).
Future changes
- You can't see the language links to other language versions from the talk page or history page. They are also not shown when you edit an article. This could change. It is not decided if for example the history page should link to another history page or to the article. You can take part in the discussion in Phabricator.
- The link colours could change. This is to make the difference between links and other text more clear. You can read more in Phabricator.
- In your preferences you can choose to get different notifications on the web or by email. You will see
Apps
as one of the alternatives later this week. This is because the Android and iOS Wikipedia apps will use push notifications for those who want them. You can see the preferences on the test wiki. The goal is to have push notifications on Android in October and on iOS in early 2021. [7] - You can soon put pages on your watchlist for a limited time. This could be useful if you want to watch something for a shorter time but don't want it on your watchlist forever. It now works on mediawiki.org and will come to more wikis later. You can read more and see when it will come to other wikis.
- You can see what Wikimedians think are the best new technical tools this year. You can also nominate them.

DYK for Didier Roustan
On 29 September 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Didier Roustan, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 1995, French journalist Didier Roustan helped set up a world footballers union with Eric Cantona and Diego Maradona? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Didier Roustan. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Didier Roustan), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Draft of the Sébastien Bouin article
Hi Joseph,
First, thank you for reviewing my draft for the article Sebastien Bouin. I want to improve and resubmit the article. You have written that "A not very active in competition sportsperson is unlikely to ever be notable enough". It is true that Sébastien Bouin is not active in competitions, but he is one of the best climbers in the world currently. In rock climbing, some sportsmen are doing a lot of competitions, and the others are climbing mostly outside. Some of the best climbers in the history like Adam Ondra or Chris Sharma spend more time climbing outside on the rock than on competitions. By climbing two routes of 9b+ grade, which is the second hardest climbing grade in the world, Sebastien Bouin has proved that he is one of the elite climbers. And this achievement has been also recognized by the renowned sport journal l'equipe. If I add this citation to the l'equipe journal, do you think my article could be accepted on wikipedia? Thank you for giving me some guidance how I can improve the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GregorTrefalt (talk • contribs) 12:37, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

DYK for 2020 London Marathon
On 4 October 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2020 London Marathon, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that today's London Marathon is not being run on its usual course, but instead as 19.6 laps around St James's Park, to prevent spectators from attending? Your signature
Your signature, coloured pale green and yellow, fails the accessibility standards for minimum contrast. Please darken your signature. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:19, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
- I had this discussed a few years ago, with the outcome that because it has the (talk), it's clear enough for people to see how to access my talkpage. And since then, I've darkened the colours. I've been using the same signature for years, and don't see a need to change it- it's incredibly similar to multiple other users who use 2 colours and have (talk) at the end of it. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:42, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
- The need is WP:SIGAPP. I’m telling you your signature lacks sufficient contrast for readable text. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:54, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
- The difference in contrast between the yellow that links to my userpage, and the blue link (talk) to my talkpage is sufficient under those guidelines. The fact that yellow and green don't contrast enough is irrelevant, as there is a clear link to my talkpage with enough contrast. I don't see why I'm being singled out for this, when I've had the same signature for 5 years without complaints, and I have recently darkened the colours even more to try and further contrast them. WP:SIGAPP says there has to be a 4.5:1 contrast between colours, and I believe there is between the yellow link to my userpage, and the blue link to my talkpage. And I've seen hundreds of say worse signatures with super or sub scripts, but nobody tries to bully them into changing signature. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:40, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
- Previous discussion: User talk:Joseph2302/Archives/2016/August#WP:SIGAPP. Referring to exactly the same policy, a less clear version of this signature was deemed compliant. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:59, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
- SmokeyJoe What is your obsession with my signature? Changing it so that my username in signatures is not displayed correctly is not appropriate. And why are you harassing me over this, when there are many way worse signatures around, and many signatures styled exactly like mine? If you don't agree, start an adminatrators discussion about this. Do not change my signature on talkpages or the MfD as that is WP:POINTY. Joseph2302 (talk) 23:13, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
- See my first post this thread. You continue to post your policy non-compliant Signature on pages I am watching. The green I think technically fails, but the yellow is completely unacceptable, it is visually very disturbing. Please fix your signature according to accessibility standards. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 00:01, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
- According to this easy tool, color:%23ffcc00 fails on all counts. The colours of File:Norwich City.svg are a very poor source of a colour pallet for text. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 00:41, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
- I was told in the linked discussion in 2016 that both colours were compliant. And so I don't know why 4 years later you are telling me they are not. Honestly, im confused but unwilling to change based on one person in 4 years. I will raise with WP:AN, because frankly I don't believe there's anything wrong with it. Joseph2302 (talk) 08:28, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
- The problem here is that SIGAPP is very vague despite being called a "policy". The 4.5:1 minimum contrast is only a suggestion buried in a footnote, rather than being a bright line requirement. That unfortunately means that "compliance" is very much a matter of editor opinion, and there is no requirement for SmokeyJoe, me, NickMoyes, or anybody else to agree with what one editor told you in 2016. I strongly oppose the way SIGAPP is written, since that results in lots of time wasted in situations just like this one, but it is what it is. My suggestion is to choose two MOS:ONWHITE recommended colors and be done with it forever. I'm honestly baffled at why you are so attached to those two colors. ―Mandruss ☎ 10:32, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
- Mandruss Thank you for providing link to MOS:ONWHITE so I could exactly what colours were acceptable. I have changed my sig now, so hopefully much better. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:05, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
- Very much better. You have made a slight but ongoing improvement to accessibility in Wikipedia talk spaces. Editors can now focus a wee bit more on discussion and a wee bit less on reading your username. Thank you. ―Mandruss ☎ 20:40, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

- Thank you. I understand that one’s custom signature connects to their identity, and being asked to change it is hard. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:08, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
- Anecdotally: My old signature failed pretty much every sig policy including color contrast - there's a discussion about it somewhere on my talkpage (I suppose I'm not popular enough to get my very own ANI thread about it). I ended up changing to this after some trial-and-error. I hated it at first, but this did grow on me. -- a lad insane (channel two) 23:56, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes
- There is a new tool where you can see which home wiki users have in discussions on Meta. This can help show which communities are not part of the discussion on wikis where we make decisions that affect many other wikis.
- You can now thank users for file uploads or for changing the language of a page. [8]
Problems
- There were many errors with the new MediaWiki version last week. The new version was rolled back. Updates that should have happened last week are late. [9]
- Everyone was logged out. This was because a user reported being logged in to someone else's account. The problem should be fixed now. [10]
- Many pages have JavaScript errors. You can read more and now see a list of user scripts with errors.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 October. It will be on all wikis from 8 October (calendar).
- Letters immediately after a link are shown as part of the link. For example the entire word in
[[Child]]ren
is linked. On Arabic wikis this works at both the start and end of a word. Previously on Arabic wikis numbers and other non-letter Unicode characters were shown as part of the link at the start of a word but not at the end. Now only Latin and Arabic letters will extend links on Arabic wikis. [11]
Future changes
- You will be able to read but not to edit the wikis for up to an hour on 27 October around 14:00 (UTC). It will probably be shorter than an hour. [12]

Hi Joseph2302. I notice you're from Sussex and wondered if you lived near Horsham? There's one more Sussex ground that needs a photo, and although it strictly doesn't exist anymore, E. Tredcroft's Ground has the interesting feature of a woodland being planted inside what was the boundary. I wonder if you would be able to get a shot of the woodland at some point? Anchor on Grand National page
Hi Joseph2302, I saw you added an anchor to the Grand National page for the 2020 race - what does that do? I had a look at the template documentation but couldn't really understand it so would be very grateful for a simple explanation! Thanks, --Bcp67 (talk) 18:08, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Bcp67 the anchor allows people to link to a section of the article that doesn't have a header above it. So I can redirect 2020 Grand National to Grand National#2020, and this takes the reader to where the anchor named 2020 is i.e. where the 2020 information about the non-race is. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:05, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation, a lot easier to follow. All the best, --Bcp67 (talk) 12:33, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
