Hi, could you not tag non-mainspace with the project banner? The project decided it does not want to tag non-articles. Thanks, Renata (talk) 12:01, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
- You are right that documentations is not updated. It was copied and pasted from before the times of tagging non-mainspace. When non-mainspace tagging began, a couple of us decided that it's not worth the effort. Tagging articles gives you all kinds of useful reports, while tagging categories and dab pages provides no real benefit that would outweigh the time spent. Anyhow, now that you tagged 450+ pages, there is even less sense spending time trying to remove the banners (when I first posted here I did not realize how many pages were tagged). So I guess, the project now tags non-mainspace too. Feel free to resume the tag drive. Renata (talk) 14:49, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Hey
Hey Koavf, how's it going? I see that you created the "Live Show" article, excellent work, BTW, anyhow, do you need assistance with the article? You know, to get to GA and stuff. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 03:01, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, I'll help you out with that [the prose and source work]. I have some info. that might be useful... might... the reason for the live episode and stuff; I've had this info. before the season started, you know to get ready and stuff, not do research the next day. Yup, I'm somehow responsible for getting season 1 and 3, and hopefully season 4, to GT status. I'm very dedicated cause I love this show and want to give its recognition it deserves. :) Anyways, whatever you want me to do, I'll do. ;) -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 23:01, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, I know, I've seen you pop-up and do that stuff you mentioned. Dude, no one's perfect in writing good prose, I know I'm not. If you want, I'll take care of the lead, somehow that's a "good trait" of mine... or maybe not. Yeah, the only reason I asked if you needed help was because I didn't want to disrupt what you were doing, you know, adding the info. and messing up your "setting". If it's cool with you I'll add the info. and maybe you can fix it or whatever so that it blends in well. Yeah, co-nomination sounds good, you know get season 5 to a GT and you part of it. ;) -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 23:16, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- Well, you deserve praise for the good work you have so far in "Live Show", I wouldn't come up with what's there, so I applaud you. :P Yeah, if we both work together this can be done ASAP. The changes would probably be for the plot, but really the plot is already summarized very well and doesn't need changes, unless it's grammar changes. Yeah, if we have this done and with the backlog we can update anything, if more info. is released and reviews, if the latter is needed, which I doubt. Okay, I added the info. make sure it "fits", like I said I don't want to mess up your contributions. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 23:34, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
- The changes I don't mind, like I said I wanted the info. to blend in nicely with your work. I expanded the lead, added that Fey and Carlock and McCarthy-Miller wrote and directed, guest stars, the episode summary, and the rest that was in the lead I didn't think needed expansion since that bit works. Hmmm, that section might be tricky cause I've never dealt with anything like that but I'll see what I can do. -- ThinkBlue (Hit BLUE) 00:11, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

Your comment on my edit--Capital versus lower case
Uhm, no, I've actually been thanked several times for what I'm doing. It's complicated, but a lot of these category pages for genera have been organized/alphabetized in several ways. I mean, on the same page. And the result is, the entries fall into several alphabetic sequences.
In the case of the pages for genera, it's best to alphabetize them by their species name, spelled with lower case initial. If you'll allow me to finish the page I've started (which I probably won't complete at this sitting), you'll see how neat and organized the results are. On this page in particular, just a few were alphabetized by their species name capitalized, a few were done by the species name in lower case, and the bulk were alphabetized under the genus name--which would put the whole category under one letter of the alphabet. Trust me, it works. I've been doing it for a long time, and I've reorganized MANY, MANY genus category pages. You're not the first to object, by a long way. But once I've explained, everybody has seen the point. 173.79.191.176 (talk) 02:18, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Stephen Kosciesza
You wrote: What is the advantage of sorting using lowercase letters? I have organized a genera category before (using uppsercase) and I can't imagine why it would be better to use lowercase, in addition to the fact that it's in contravention to the guideline I just mentioned.
Short answer: Consistency. Consider the binomial (scientific) name for an organism. It is generally rendered Genus [capitalized] species (lower case). Now, for the category page for the genus, if we just add every species to the page, without making a special statement for the sort order, the whole page will come out in one letter, the initial of the genus name. There can be hundreds of them. So it's best to state that they're to be alphabetized by the species. So why lower case? Well, two things. First, where things have been organized by the species name, it has been by far the more usual way to do it. Doing them some capitalized and some lower case causes them to appear on the page in two different alphabets, so at least consistency is desirable. But here's a second advantage. There are genus category pages that have entries other than binomial names. There are common names; there are other things. (OK, the one in question doesn't have that.) Organize it the way I'm doing it, and those pages other than the binomial names are organized in one alphabet, capitalized, at the beginning--followed by a neat list of the binomial names, in lower case. Please take a look at the first such page I ever did, Category:Pinus, the pine trees.
As far as the principle you cite, to me it reads like a general guideline--the way to do it for the vast majority of cases--rather than a hard rule. People do organize in other ways, even by things other than letters (asterisks, symbols, a blank space--all have their very useful purposes).
I hope that explains it. 173.79.191.176 (talk) 02:39, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Stephen Kosciesza
Well, as I said in another way, it DOES separate out the scientific names in one neat list AFTER all the entries that happen to be other things. I do encourage you to look at the Pinus category page I mentioned before. I've just seen that it's been messed with since I was there, but it's mostly they way I'm talking about. It begins generally with A.., pine, B... pine, C... pine, etc.--common names, and other things, in one neat alphabet. That is followed by Pinus a..., Pinus b..., pinus c..., etc., in a second, lower case alphabet. Put them in upper case, and Pinus A... would be interfiled with A... pine, etc. 173.79.191.176 (talk) 02:59, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Stephen Kosciesza P.S. I have occasionally encountered a genus category page where everything was neatly arranged by the species--capitalized. If there were no further problems--if it was entirely consistent--I left it alone. But in this case, all but one listing fell under the letter L for the genus name. There were a couple of other inconsistencies.

- Yes, bots like SmackBot do add the date parameters, but it is good practice to include the parameter when tagging. Not doing so creates unnecessary work. Thanks, Acather96 (talk) 19:11, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Your appeal against community sanctions
Hello, Koavf. This is to inform you that I have closed the AN discussion about your appeal as not achieving consensus for overturning the restrictions against which you appealed. Sandstein 18:39, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
- In reply to your question on my talk page, your sanctions were imposed by a rather strong community consensus. Consequently, I feel that a positive consensus of the community is required to overturn them. Unfortunately for you, few people seem to care very much one way or the other. Now you can still appeal to the Arbitration Committee. It is their job to care about such things. Given community indifference about the matter, they may be willing to examine your editing and, if they conclude that the original problems with your editing no longer exist, lift the sanctions. Ban appeal
Koavf (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
There is a long history for this ban and its recent appeal. In sum, I have three editing restrictions, which I have requested to be lifted--concerning editing with multiple accounts, editing topics related to Western Sahara and Morocco, and the ability to be banned from a "set" of articles or type of editing at admin discretion. I recently appealed for these to be lifted through ArbCom, I was directed to AN, and at AN I was directed back to ArbCom. You can read the entire history here. The statements that I made there still stand and I would be happy to discuss them at a new venue and alert any editors whom you think should or could give their insight into this matter. Thank you for your time. Note that I am not blocked but banned and there is no clear distinction that I see on Wikipedia:Guide to appealing blocks for appealing bans specifically--Wikipedia:Arbitration_Committee#BASC directs me to this procedure.
Decline reason:
This template adds your name to a list which is reviewed by individual administrators, and requests that your account be unblocked. Since this account isn't blocked, my review is unhelpful to you. You followed the correct procedure in opening a discussion at WP:AN to request the lifting of your editing restrictions. However, that discussion did not result in community consensus to lift those restrictions. No action on my part seems to be needed here; I can't unblock you, and one admin doesn't have the authority to lift editing restrictions. FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 23:21, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Welsh tags
Hi Koavf, I have noticed that you have been tagging many Welsh articles to be classified. The only issue is that seveal are disambiguation pages and some, such as talk:Christopher Swagga Nicholas don't even have an article. Do you check the articles before you tag them or is this a bot? It just would help me as I am one of the few people who assess Welsh articles and this tagging will probably be lumped on myself and anything to lessen the workload will be appreciated. Re:Yiddish
Hi Koavf - Yes, according to the consensus I saw at the discussion, the existing content should be split between a language category and a culture category, and each category should be categorized in the appropriate parent cats. For the language category, that would probably be Category:Jewish languages and for the culture cat it would probably be Category:Jewish culture. Or, if you have a better idea, they can be categorized elsewhere. Or (since I just found those categories), if you think the content should just be upmerged, feel free to to propose it at WP:CFD. Hey, I see you just recreated this to add a WikiProject, which is great, but the matching article had recently been deleted (via PROD.) I'm going to redelete the talk page, as I'm guessing your edit was based on an out-of-date list of articles to tag, but if I was mistaken and you're actually thinking of rescuing the article let me know, as an uncontested PROD it's an automatic candidate for undeletion. Dealing with de-populated speedy rename categories
If you are going to manually de-populate the old categories at WP:CFDS and create the new one, instead of tagging the old category with Template:db-catempty, could you add those you want deleted to the "Ready for deletion" queue at WP:CFDWM? (The reminder to do this is at the bottom on WP:CFDS here. These categories are not eligible for speedy deletion as empty categories that have been empty for 4 days; they are eligible because they have been speedily renamed, and if they are not added to the correct queue, they will be deleted for the wrong reason, and the correct notice will not be left on the deleted category. Not sure why you created this talk page of a non-existent article (it was deleted a couple of days earlier)? --Stephen 02:01, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
TCMI Project update
Hello! While I know that you weren't able to attend the Backstage Pass, I wanted to pass along some resources and links from the day. You can see that images from the day are being added to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis category in Commons. Note that there is a separate category of images of us from the day (rather than objects). We also received a little press on both the Children's Museum blog: The Wikipedians are Coming! and the Wikipedia Signpost had the event as their lead story last week. I will be continuing to work on organizing TCMI research content and moving forward with the content donation in the coming months. I will probably have an announcement about the content donation sometime around February, and I could certainly use your help in spreading the word at that point. In the meantime, do let me know on the project requests page if you are interested in working on a TCMI-related article and would like to be connected with a curator. They're happy to help anyone who is interested. Thanks! HstryQT (talk) 20:23, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- That's great that you've been invited to lecture about Wikipedia! I'm sure you've gotten the geonotice about the Bloomington Campus Ambassador program, but there is also an IUPUI group starting. I've been in touch with Annie Lin, one of the Campus Ambassador coordinators at WMF, and she's pretty certain that a Campus Ambassador Training is going to take place at IUPUI. I will likely be in attendance, in spite of the fact that I'm not going to be taking on the usual tasks of a Campus Ambassador (too much to do in GLAM/Museum land). But I'm sure they'd be happy to have you attend as well. They're opening it up to more people with this round of training, I think even if you're just interested in Wikipedia in academia in general. Just wanted to make sure you knew. HstryQT (talk) 03:03, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
Contribution team
Greetings! Please excuse this intrusion on your talk page, and allow me to invite you to participate in the newly-formed Wikipedia Contribution Team (WP:CONTRIB for short)! The goal of the team is to attract more and better contributions to the English Wikipedia, as well as to help support the fundraising team in our financial and editing contribution goals. We have lots of stuff to work on, from minor and major page building, to WikiProject outreach, article improvement, donor relations, and more—in fact, part of our mission is to empower team members to make their own projects to support our mission. Some of our projects only take a few minutes to work on, while others can be large, multi-person tasks—whatever your interest level, we're glad to have you.
If this sounds interesting, please visit WP:CONTRIB and sign onto the team. Even if there does not appear to be anything that really speaks out as being work you'd like to do, I'd encourage you to join and follow the project anyway, as the type of work we'll be doing will certainly evolve and change over time. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me, or ask on the team talk page. Regards, ⇒DanRosenthal Wikipedia Contribution Team 22:17, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- By the way, this is a human edit (not a bot). I'm specifically contacting you as you expressed interest in the Campus Ambassador position, and the Wikipedia Contributions Team has a lot of commonality in working along with the Campus Ambassadors. You can reach me on my talk page, or by email at drosenthal@wikimedia.org with questions; I can't guarantee that I'll be checking back on your talk page often enough to hold a sustained conversation there. User: Spartan
Hi Koavf, I realize this is out of the blue but I'm desperately looking for an admin that hasn't dropped off the face of the Earth. My username, Spartan, was blocked indefinitely from someone trolling on my account. User:Ryan_Postlethwaite was the guy that did that. I'm kind of looking forward to getting back to editing under my own account, as I've been editing on this IP address and others pretty much constantly anyway. Thanks, 96.50.86.207 (talk) 04:49, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi, Thanks anyway. :) 96.50.86.207 (talk) 22:17, 20 November 2010 (UTC)
Categories and WikiProject taggings
You might want to slow down and be more careful with that, you've created talk pages for Category talk:Maps of Adams County, Illinois and Category talk:Maps of Cass County, Illinois, among several, which have no corresponding category. — ξxplicit 23:01, 20 November 2010 (UTC) All I Do Is Win 14:59, 22 November 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yomommahog (talk • contribs)
Magnapop GA review
Hi Koavf, I've reviewed Magnapop for GA and placed on hold. I've left my concerns on the talkpage - let me know when you've had chance to address them. Cavie78 (talk) 00:32, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
- I've replied to your comments on the GA page - just a couple of issues remaining before I can promote. Cavie78 (talk) 16:53, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
