Your draft article, Draft:Futaba Sakura

Hello, Lee Vilenski. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Futaba Sakura".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

WikiCup 2019 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition. Everyone with a positive score moves on to Round 2. With 56 contestants qualifying, each group in Round 2 contains seven contestants, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for Round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining contestants.

Our top scorers in Round 1 were:

  • United States L293D, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with ten good articles on submarines for a total of 357 points.
  • Adam Cuerden, a WikiCup veteran, came next with 274 points, mostly from eight featured pictures, restorations of artwork.
  • Denmark MPJ-DK, a wrestling enthusiast, was in third place with 263 points, garnered from a featured list, five good articles, two DYKs and four GARs.
  • United States Usernameunique came next at 243, with a featured article and a good article, both on ancient helmets.
  • Squeamish Ossifrage was in joint fifth place with 224 points, mostly garnered from bringing the 1937 Fox vault fire to featured article status.
  • Ohio Ed! was also on 224, with an amazing number of good article reviews (56 actually).

These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Sorry

Hi, look I'll just get straight to the point. I'm sorry for falsely promising you that I would have been able to review WrestleMania IV: it has been 4 months and I don't really have any excuses. Not being knowledgeable (or interested) in the argument was really a big factor to me continuously pushing the work further and further.

So yeah, sorry again for not being responsible enough to keep my word. Hopefully, next time, I will make sure to keep my end of the bargain. Nehme1499 (talk) 22:19, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

Pool articles

Hi, just for your information, the correct link for "pool" is: [[Pool (cue sports)|pool]]. Best, Yoninah (talk) 18:00, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks Yoninah. I'll change my template. I'm not sure why I always think it's the billiards one. I'll be more careful :) Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:02, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.17

Hello Lee Vilenski/Archives/2019,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Electrical telegraphy in the United Kingdom

It never ceases to amaze me that editors who are apparently not familiar with a subject think they are able to assess its importance. Do you really think that the technology and the country that actually gave rise to the telecommunications industry is not important to telecommunications? The first ever telecommunications company was formed here (the Electric Telegraph Company). That company was the ancestor of the multinational BT Group who, according to their article, "carried out corporate Europe's largest ever rights issue" (£5.9 billion). Another company became "the largest multinational of the nineteenth century" (Eastern Telegraph Company). Do you really think none of that is important, or did you just not read the article before assessing it? SpinningSpark 17:50, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Spinningspark. I simply added the wikiproject tag to the article, as it was untagged beforehand; and gave it a B rating. The Rater script automatically generates a "low" importance to any article that doesn't get changed, and that is why it is marked as such.
Realistically, I was simply attempting to add the tag, and give the highest rating (as it's GAN). If the article in question needs to be more important, it should be easy to update to "top" or "high".Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:11, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
Done Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:23, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for doing that. You don't have to leave a rating to add a Wikiproject template. The template will show a question mark if the field is left blank. If you can't do that through the script you are using, maybe you should consider using a different tool, or doing it manually.
As a general note, I'm not a great fan of drive-by Wikiproject tagging. The majority of wikiprojects are moribund. Tagging articles just adds more and more pages to projects that will never do anything about them. An alternative to tagging is to request the project itself to assess the article. A project I belong to, Wikiproject Electronics, actually has a sub-page for making such requests, but any active project should at least respond on its talk page. Ones that aren't active really weren't worth assessing in the first place. SpinningSpark 18:42, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
