- Check out Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) too when you have a chance. Remember, as a reviewer I have no idea what I'm reading and I need to know immediately why this article should be kept on Wikipedia. In this particular case I'm asking myself, why is this company notable enough to merit an article? What did the company do or was involved with that merits an article here? Keep me updated when you post a resubmit it for review so that I can review it once again. We get so many AFCs that it's hard to keep up on articles that have potential but you have demonstrated a will to bring this up and that's what we are looking for, people willing to make this better. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 12:59, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- OK I got your message. Could you please answer the following question:
What did Middlemores Saddles do or was involved with that was notable enough to merit an article on Wikipedia?
- —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 14:09, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
- The fact that the company was century old is more than enough to establish its notability within the region covered by its business. State so in the WP:LEAD and stamp it with a reliable source. That will be more than enough to be accepted as an article onto Wikipedia. Let me know when you resubmit the AFC so that I can move the article properly. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 15:03, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Hang in there....
[edit]The article has improved significantly since your first submission. I definitely think the topic is worth and article and you're pretty close to having a solid start for an article. Based on the current state I have a few suggestions:
- You might want to break the text into a few more sections. Perhaps a different section for each half-century (or a different set of breaks; whatever makes sense)? As a reader I tend to look for the section headers to know where I want to dive into the article.
- It's not obvious in the article what products were made then. I think you have the information, it's just buried in the text. You might want to think of creating a table or chart listing the major product lines and when they were introduced and retired.
- Pictures of the products would be wonderful. Copyright on images can be tricky to navigate, but if they're sufficiently old or you've taken the picture yourself then you're fine.
Keep asking questions and keep plugging away. Good articles look like they're effortless to write, but trust me, it's hard. Not only do you have the stylistic issues to wrestle with, you've got formatting, markup, and piles of policies you have to adhere to. You're making good progress. Hang in there and we'll get this article improved enough to be accepted. GaramondLethe 22:40, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

—Ahnoneemoos (talk) 01:00, 7 January 2013 (UTC)- OK, looks good now. Can you format the footnotes properly? Check the help page at WP:CITEQR. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 19:28, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- Great job. I removed all the cleanup templates since the article is in good standing now. Your next task should be to include an infobox (see MOS:INFOBOX to understand what they are). I beleive that
{{infobox company}}
should be the one used in this case. Once you have included an infobox on the article let me know on my talk page so that I can tell you what would be the next steps. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 22:51, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
- OK, the next step is what we call peer review. In this step a bunch of people will come and look at your article and improve it. These people might not be from England nor familiar with the subject matter, but they will improve the article to what they believe is best for Wikipedia. This is usually done from the references provided in the article. If you want to follow this step I would suggest that you find more references that talk about the company. You must also understand that these people might change the article into a way you don't like nor feel should be. You must also be willing to work together with them and answer any questions they might have about what were you trying to convey in a sentence or why did you add a reference or certain content. If you are willing to move forward let me know so that you can follow this process. This is not necessary however, as the article is OK the way it is. —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 00:32, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
- OK, lets leave it as it then. Feel free to contribute on other articles though! —Ahnoneemoos (talk) 01:02, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button or located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. Citations
[edit]I see you're working hard on the citations. Let me help explain a bit because I can see you're struggling. There are four basic templates: {{cite book}}, {{cite news}}, {{cite web}} and {{cite journal}}. Visit those pages to see their parameters and functions. You did take some of my examples, but you're mixing and matching, using cite book for web references and so on and not filling out expected typical fields for full attribution. Each templates has the same basic form. {{cite web/book/whichever followed by | separating somefield= and ending with }}. Each takes fields that make sense for what you're citing. So, if you're citing a book, for example, full attribution would typically be providing the title, url, author, year, publisher, page and isbn, which would take the form:
{{cite book|title=|url=|author=|year=|publisher=|page=|isbn=}}
and you would just fill in after each equal sign (and of course remember to place between ref tags i.e., <ref> ...</ref>) Instead of "author=
", you can also use last=|first=
for first and last names of the author, which I think looks better (it displays as "Einstein, Albert", rather than "Albert Einstein").
For online sources, use cite web. Typical fields would be:
{{cite web|url=|title=|date=|publisher=|author=}}
and for newspapers:
{{tl|cite news|newspaper=|title=|url=|date=|author=|page=}}
.

[edit]Thanks for the edits but I'm afraid I've reverted them; if you wish to make a link to Thomas Middlemore please write an article on him. We can't have a person being linked to an article on a horse saddles and accessories company! Regards, Ericoides (talk) 20:07, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I see your point, but still, we must distinguish between the man and the company. Why not start an article on him? I'd chip in with some material if you did. Ericoides (talk) 21:49, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

- I note that a high proportion of your most recent threads are posting your own views about the topics covered by articles (sometimes with only a loose connection to the topic) on talk pages. This is not the purpose of article talk pages. Nick-D (talk) 11:24, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
- Is there something wrong with you? Seriously! You don't understand that Talk pages are for talking!!!!!!!! I do not alter articles, I have opinions on facts. I do not have to accept racist terms and never will, the fact that it is a racist term is historical fact. Your loss if you won't accept the truth. Also "only a loose connection to the topic" is just a plain lie. Who the hell do you think you are threatening me? Pathetic.

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contribution(s). I am glad to see that you are discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, while user talk pages permit a small degree of generalisation, other talk pages such as Talk:Texas secession movements are strictly for discussing the topic of their associated main pages and many of them have special instructions on the top. They are not a general discussion forum about unrelated topics. If you have questions or ideas and are not sure where to post them, consider asking at the Teahouse.
