peer review?

hey. Awhile ago you peer reviewed Sacred Cod of Massachusetts for me and thank you so much for it. I have just put up another article I created, List of Smithsonian museums, for peer review and was wondering if you would be up to reviewing it as well. Thanks either way. --Found5dollar (talk) 17:04, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

PRR GG1

Sorry to be slow on replying - I got caught up in something on AN/I. I agree that the movies section in the current PRR GG1 article looks pretty crufty. It may be that there are references to do an "In popular culture" section, but without them I agree it looks like OR. Choess is a rail buff and may be able to give you a more informed opinion, perhaps even point you to the refs if they exist.

Thanks for the waterfalls congrats - hope to get it to PR soon and to send out a special thankspam to all who !voted on the images. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:10, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

I looked on Google books and found this. It also mentions the Lionel train version and PRR calendars. Not sure the current list of movies would fit, but my guess is there is enough for a pop culture section. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 05:45, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
The more I think about, I think it would be OK to use the quote from the Google books source above "the GG1 showed up over the years in more advertisements and movie clips than any other locomotive" and then list the movies where it is obviously a GG1 and use the movie as the ref. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:37, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
You are very welcome - I wound up reading the list and making a few PR comments myself. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:01, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm. I think what would really help the section is a discussion of why the GG1 appears "in popular culture" in the first place. A few sentences on the historical background of streamlining and the Streamline Moderne movement might not go amiss. The GG1 was the first (OK, second, if you count the P5a modifieds) streamlined electric locomotive in the US. So you have a locomotive with a very forward-looking style (streamlining) and a fairly futuristic technology (electric—most streamliners had been steamers, the first streamlined diesel, the Burlington's Zephyr, only preceded the GG1s by about a year) on one of the most prominent railroads in the US; this was what really made it noteworthy. Maybe something about the art of Grif Teller for the PRR bringing it into the public eye? I know Dan Cupper's written a book on Teller. Once the iconicity of the GG1 has been established, I think it's OK to start listing movies, because it's now been explained why the GG1 would figure so prominently in the public eye. I'd probably drop the "Railroad Tycoon" reference, though. Choess (talk) 06:49, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I knew you'd notice! Glad you like it - the original green color was from the Census map (which makes all parks green). The waterfalls article has a new map and is about ready for PR (finally). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:47, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Dickson Tavern and related articles

Hi, I'm sure you may have spotted this by now, but there now appears to be several sockpuppet accounts attempting to remove the good work you did making the above article relevant for wikipedia. They are all newly created accounts, editing only the articles mentioned above, removing templates they have no business removing. I can't imagine that all the accounts just happen to be different people, all who register in the last day, and only edit these articles. It just seems too obvious. Anyways, just wanted to point this out to you. I had previously edited before your version, but feel that your version is more appropaite and doesn't contain the nonsense that this other user seems to want in the article. 142.68.238.33 (talk) 00:42, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Just seen the post you left for another user on this topic. I see that you do know all about the sock puppets, so sorry for writing all this on your talk page. I should have checked your contributions first. 142.68.238.33 (talk) 00:45, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
No problem at all, glad to know other people watching as well. I've been trying to incorporate some of what they want without compromising the article, but I guess there's no pleasing some people. Niagara Don't give up the ship 01:37, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Sommerheim Park

Are you familiar with Sommerheim Park in Millcreek Township? I've just created Sommerheim Park Archeological District, which you might find interesting. Nyttend (talk) 17:55, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

By the way, the article is currently orphaned; the only two articles that link to it are Millcreek Township and the Erie County NRHP list. Could you help by finding at least one more article to link to it? Nyttend (talk) 18:08, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, I see you changed the coords; because the NRIS didn't provide coords, I copy/pasted the infobox from another archaeological site and changed the data, but I guess I forgot to change the coords. I didn't observe the spelling difference in the nomination form, however; thanks for pointing that out. And I echo the annoyance with the snow: I'm impatiently waiting for a combination of spare time and visible grass (both have happened recently, but never at the same time!) to visit the Carl Potter Mound and get a photo. Sidewheeler page moves

Hi, I got your message. The reason for the page moves was to standardize the articles by using current ship prefix (see also Steamboat). My thought was to go with one designation on all article pages rather than having multiple styles as Ship Name (sidewheeler), Ship Name (paddle wheel ship) or Ship Name (steamship). Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships would probably be the best place to double check the current article name. If you like I'll start a thread there.Shinerunner (talk) 22:48, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

I've started a discussion thread at WikiProject Ships. Shinerunner (talk) 10:56, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

You've been mentioned at the above, as having downloaded the Lancaster County files from ARCH. Did you know that if you have the file names, you can still download the files. I'm looking for the file names for the 22 or so locomotives and cars that are NRHP at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, "East of Strasburg". If you have a "table of contents" with these in it - could you e-mail it to me, or attach it to my user space User:Smallbones/Chester County (who cares if the county name is wrong, I'll know where to look). that way I can download them myself. Any help appreiciated. Smallbones (talk) 05:32, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Got the PDF, all's cool

Got the Penn. RR Rolling Stock TR pdf and that will give me all the info I can handle. It's funny this came up now (as I'm leaving town for a week), but you might check out Southern Chester County PA NRHP listings for my interest in Strasburg Road, which I've been trying to finish up for several weeks. (Same road, different county). Do let me know what other locomotives/stock you'd like me to shoot. I'd guess that I'll try to shoot everything, but close quarters and lent out or in repair stock may limit me.

I'm particularly interested in the CVRR passenger/bagage car, which brought to mind a question that you might be able to help me on (unrelated to the above, and not crucial). Re this text from the CVRR article

"

The locomotive "Pioneer" in service on the CVRR in the 1880's or 1890's.

Daniel Tyler was hired in 1850 to supervise the line's rebuilding. He hired Alba Smith as Superintendent of the machinery shop in 1850. Smith served as Superintendent of the railway from 1851-1856, and helped introduced lighter weight "single-wheel" locomotives on the line. These locomotives included the Pioneer and the Jenny Lind, bought in 1851, and the Boston and Enterprise bought in 1853-54.[1] In 1999, the Pioneer was moved from its display at the Smithsonian Institution to the as yet unopened National Museum of Industrial History.[2] [3]"

WikiCup 2010 January newsletter

We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. We've had some shakeups regarding late entries, flag changes and early dropouts, but the competition is now established- there will be no more flag changes or new competitors. Congratulations to Hungary Sasata (submissions), our current leader, who, at the time of writing, has more listed points than Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions) (second and third place respectively) combined. A special well done also goes to Isle of Man Fetchcomms (submissions)- his artcle Jewel Box (St. Louis, Missouri) was the first content to score points in the competition.

Around half of competitors are yet to score. Please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. 64 of the 149 current competitors will advance to round 2- if you currently have no points, do not worry, as over half of the current top 64 have under 50 points. Everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places in round 2! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, by email or on IRC. Good luck! OK here we go, found the Talk link

I am the webmaster for The Knickerbocker and I live in Linesville.

The statement in the Linesville section about The Knickerbocker is this: One other point of interest in Linesville is The Knickerbocker Hotel. This is now famous for its' appearance on the A&E show, Paranormal State, and was investigated. Their conclusion was that there was nothing paranormal there.

The Knickerbocker has been investigated many times since the Paranormal State Episode and there is a great deal of paranormal interest surrounding The Knickerbocker. The statement, "Their conclusion was that there was nothing paranormal there." is the problem I have.

As to whether or not there is something paranormal there is something of a paradox. If the paranormal could be proven or dis proven it would be a different ball game.

What I can say for an absolute fact is that there is a thriving online and offline community interested in the paranormal that gravitates to The Knickerbocker. Our website gets several hundred visitors a day, mostly to watch our nine live webcams.

If I can not add to the statement to balance it, let's at least take the conclusion out. It does not directly relate to the community of Linesville and it is in fact misleading. The Knickerbocker it a hub of paranormal speculation.

If I remove the statement, "Their conclusion was that there was nothing paranormal there." Will you just put in back? Thank You Tom Deighton 04:43, 8 February 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tom Deighton (talkcontribs)

Round one is over, and round two has begun! Congratulations to the 64 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our first round. A special well done goes to Hungary Sasata (submissions), our round one winner (1010 points), and to Pennsylvania Hunter Kahn (submissions) and New Orleans TonyTheTiger (submissions), who were second and third respectively (640 points/605 points). Sasata was awarded the most points for both good articles (300 points) and featured articles (600 points), and TonyTheTiger was awarded the most for featured topics (225 points), while Hunter Kahn claimed the most for good topics (70). Connecticut Staxringold (submissions) claimed the most featured lists (240 points) and featured pictures (35 points), Geschichte (submissions) claimed the most for Did you know? entries (490 points), Jujutacular (submissions) claimed the most for featured sounds (70 points) and Republic of Ireland Candlewicke (submissions) claimed the most for In the news entries (40 points). Credits awarded after the end of round one but before round two may be claimed in round two, but remember the rule that content must have been worked on in some significant way during 2010 by you for you to claim points. The groups for round two will be placed up shortly, and the submissions' pages will be blanked. Hey Niagara, I'm not trying to start an edit war or anything here but what I was talking about is that the photo you created is hard to differentiate the art work when its in front of the blue background. I understand that your using the Pennsylvania flag colors but its just hard to see. What about taking the current logo and making the art work and "wikiproject Pennsylvania" larger and a vector image; or just making the art work bigger and dropping "wikiprject Pennsylvania" plus the vector. The green that is on the current logo corresponds with the Pennsylvania portal. When I overhauled the portal I made a the logo for the wikiporject.
