Wales contest

Hi Penny, welcome aboard! Amazon vouchers will be sent by email, not post. It would really be no extra burden if you won one of the book prizes either as books can be bought on Amazon.com too and dispatched straight to your door. We do need participants in the actual contest so if you loves prizes go for it!! Obviously the ones contributed before April 1 though won't count in the contest itself but count towards the overall scheme.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:04, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Penny, do you know anybody else who might be interested in the contest? Anybody who might be interested in contributing something about Welsh history or women etc?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:58, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

I'll ask around. Also, I posted the link just now to the Facebook page for the Welsh League of Southern California, that might catch someone's fancy.Penny Richards (talk) 14:31, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Five years ago...

Five years ago, you added a category to the Edith Balfour Lyttelton article, and it's either wrong, or the article doesn't give the necessary context. I wonder whether you can help. Schwede66 04:23, 14 March 2016 (UTC)

Wik-Ed Women Session #5

Wik-Ed Women Session #5

Dear fellow Wikipedian,

I would like to personally invite you to the March edition of the Wik-Ed Women meetup, which will take place on March 15, from 6-10 in the evening. It will occur at Los Angeles Contemporary Archive, 2245 E Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, California 90021 (downtown LA -- map). The building has a pink top with old signage for American Accessories, Inc. dba Princess Accessories (Photos [PDF]). There is on-site parking in the back, which also has an entrance. If you cannot attend in person, you are more than willing to work remotely, as we appreciate all help that you can provide. Finally, here is a link to the Facebook event, in case you want to invite friends, as we are always looking for new editors to help expand coverage of women on Wikipedia!

I hope to see you there! Cosmicphantom (talk) - via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 05:54, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Rose Davies

A John Jones created this on Welsh wiki earlier, see cy:Rose Davies, he'll need to fully source it though if he's going to get the points. Looked like a very notable woman, it's on the women biographies list and in the national dictionary. Though it might interest you. I think she also has an entry in the Oxford Dictionary. Do you have access to that?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:53, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Minnie Pallister just needs a citation for personal life.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:58, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Almost time to pick up kids from school, but I'll look into the Rose Davies when I can tonight or tomorrow. I'll go add a cite for Pallister's death date too, yes.Penny Richards (talk) 21:10, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Looks like I do have DNB access, and Rose Davies has an entry there. I'll be happy to take a pass at an en:wiki entry, with sources, probably tomorrow.Penny Richards (talk) 22:53, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Good job on that. 20 points now for any woman started as that biography list is underdeveloped! So you'll get the points for those which aren't on the list too!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:06, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

"Women are everywhere"

Hi Penny Richard. I'm an editor of the Italian Wikipedia. I'm trying to participate to an IEG with the project "Women are everywhere". You will find the draft at this link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Women_are_everywhere It would be great if you could have a look at it. I need any kind of suggestion or advice to improve it. Support or endorsement would be fantastic. Many thanks,--Kenzia (talk) 18:05, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Stub Obliteration

For this week I'm introducing a sort of game to blast away those stale old stubs with a prize at the end of it. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Wales/Awaken the Dragon/Stub Obliteration 2016. Expansion rules don't apply to any articles done through this, all you have to do is ensure every article you submit is minimum 1.5kb readable prose in total and adequately sourced and readable and remove the stub tag and update the project tag on the talk page. It could be that the article is 1.2kb readable prose and you simply add 0.3 kb prose and just quickly smarten up the sources and give a minor copyedit. The goal is reducing the number of stubs we have and making them more consistent, minimum start class entries. Read the top for the rules and more details and add your name to it in the style of the main entries page if you want to participate. It's open to contestants and anybody who is participating in the editathon independently. Potentially a lot of points can be earned from mass basic expansions with this!♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:19, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Book

Hi, if you run out of articles there's File:The Heroines of Welsh History.pdf this to peruse!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:00, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Thanks! I'm a little limited in what I can access from here (California), so it's always nice to have links to sources like this.Penny Richards (talk) 16:01, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
It's not great as notability isn't asserted on a lot of them but it might be a good place to start and find a name and search elsewhere and try to piece something together on. File:Eminent Welshmen.pdf is a great source for men, a pity the women's one isn't as good!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:23, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Well done, you're 5th currently on the leader board. Keep those women articles coming! Remember there's some quick points for destubbing women articles for this too!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:26, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
You're probably not that interested in the main contest points but remember there's easy points for destubbing some of the women articles until Sunday. Articles you destub on women will also go towards your book claim. See if there's any in Category:Welsh writer stubs and other bio categories which interest you. Anne Beale might. Ann Harriet Hughes doesn't need much. Women in Red accept expansions don't see Rosiestep and Ipigott? ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:01, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

If it means anything, some of your articles like Llewela Davies are being translated on Welsh wikipedia!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:49, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Access to Loeb Classical Library

User:Penny Richards, I recently was approved access to the Loeb Classical Library, and was given a password, etc. When I log-in to that venue, I am still not afforded full access for reasons unknown to me. For example, when I try reading a Greek classical book, after the first paragraph or so I get a reading that says: "You've reached the page view limit for your Loeb Classical Library preview. Log In." I don't know what I should do. Can you please assist me or give me proper instructions as to what I must do to gain access to the library? Another problem I have is with the "Redeem an Access Token." What must I do there? Sincerely, Davidbena (talk) 15:25, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

User:Davidbena, I'm sorry this is happening, I know it's frustrating. The access token is the string of numbers and letters you were given for the site (I know it looked like a password). Maybe try again by clicking the "redeem an access token" and entering your token there instead? Let me know if that works.Penny Richards (talk) 15:36, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Penny, I did exactly what you told me to do. I was also asked to fill-in my first and last name, my e-mail address and to submit the access code that they gave to me. When I do all that, a window pops-up with the reading: "You must correct the following errors before you may continue.

•A member account with this email address already exists •A member account with this username already exists" So, what must I do to correct this? Davidbena (talk) 15:52, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Okay, this sounds like an issue on their end. The email we have for support for Wikipedia Library accounts is loebclassics_sales at harvard dot edu -- maybe check in with them. Tell them that you are approved for an account, and that you have the token we sent. I hope they can straighten this out and get you access asap.Penny Richards (talk) 15:59, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

A present for you, which will serve you well in your wiki career. Use this for google book urls. It fully makes the citations for you ;-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:01, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Go into your preferences. Depending on what skin you use click "custom javacript". Paste in the following and click save, and do anything it tell you to make it work:

addOnloadHook(function() {
addPortletLink('p-cactions','http://books.google.com//','GB','ca-gb');
});
addOnloadHook(function() {
 addPortletLink('p-cactions','http://reftag.appspot.com/','GB ref','ca-gb ref');
 });

This should give you a new link to google books and ref maker in your top editing itinery. Perhaps Deb, Cwmhiraeth, Robevans123 and FruitMonkey would also find this useful. Saves a lot of time with making book references..♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:27, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Pride 2016

As a past contributor, you are invited to participate in the third annual Wiki Loves Pride campaign, which runs through the month of June. The purpose of the campaign is to create and improve content related to LGBT culture and history. How can you help?

  1. Create or improve LGBT-related Wikipedia pages and showcase the results of your work here
  2. Document local LGBT culture and history by taking pictures at pride events and uploading your images to Wikimedia Commons
  3. Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

Looking for topics? The Tasks page, which you are welcome to update, offers some ideas and wanted articles.

This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. The group's mission is to develop LGBT-related content across all Wikimedia projects, in all languages. Visit the affiliate's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome! If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's talk page.

Thanks, and happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:12, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Digital Anthropology research

Hello Penny Richards, My name is Stephanie Barker and I am a student at the University of Colorado Boulder. I am currently enrolled in a Digital Anthropology class, which attempts to answer how the digital world affects culture and how culture affects the digital world. For my final project I am doing an ethnography on women Wikipedia users and as a member of the WikiProject Women page I was hoping I could ask you some questions about your experiences editing Wikipedia pages. 1. Have you ever been locked into an intense editing war? If yes, please explain the situation to me. 2. How did you become interested in editing Wikipedia pages and did you have any initial fears/hesitations when you started editing pages? 3. Have you ever been a victim of a mass deletion or other vandalism on Wikipedia? If yes, please explain the situation to me. 4. How would you describe your gender? 5. Is there anything else you would like to share with me about your experiences as a Wikipedia editor? Thank you for taking the time to read this email. I would like you to know that I am only sharing my research with my professor and the other students in my class. If you would like me to send you a copy of my final project, I would be more than happy to! Sincerely, Stelba90 (talk) 00:39, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 9

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Amy Sedgwick, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Princess Theatre. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

This is just a reminder that Wikipedia:WikiProject England/The West Country Challenge kicks off today, with the first subject being Bristol. Please remember to post entries under your name at Wikipedia:WikiProject England/The West Country Challenge/Bristol. You are receiving this message because you are listed as a participant in the challenge.

Happy editing! --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:46, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

The first leg is Bristol. Names are to be added at the bottom of the Bristol page and articles listed. Please also make sure that you add entries you improve/start to the main list on the main page. There will be £10 to win each day for the most points accumulated and then the winner of the county crowned after three days. The overall winner will be decided from the points accumulated from each county round. If you're not interested in winning anything and want to contribute anything you want from the West Country this is fine too though. Best of luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:08, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Can you or SusunW start Susanna Winkworth, a philantrophist from Bristol I believe.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:09, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Sure, I'll get on that right now.Penny Richards (talk) 11:31, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi there. I've started a new initiative, the Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. It's a long term goal to bring about 10,000 article improvements to the UK and Ireland. Through two contests involving just six or seven weeks of editing so far we've produced over 1500 improvements. Long term if we have more people chipping it and adding articles they've edited independently as well from all areas of the UK then reaching that target is all possible. I think it would be an amazing achievement to see 10,000 article improvements by editors chipping in. If you support this and think you might want to contribute towards this long term please sign up in the Contributors section. No obligations, just post work on anything you feel like whenever you want, though try to avoid basic stubs if possible as we're trying to reduce the overall stub count and improve general comprehension and quality. Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:21, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

I'll update that main list once the West Country challenge is complete though so don't worry about adding your entries for the contest to it!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:19, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
