Ways to improve Tracey Weiler
[edit]Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Should I be using citations from local news sources versus partisan websites? Notability is not an issue. I'm new to wikipedia so any pointers on how to improve this page would be welcome. Irene Adler (talk) 10:37, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, thank you so much for protecting the Miss Asia Pacific World 2011 page. I felt dizzy recently because some IP addresses made a big mess in that page. I have corrected the placements, but they kept changing my edits.
Thanks and please for your help. :) DeshintaChandra (talk) 10:08, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hello Phillippe. Regrettably, I think that certain vandalism on the article Miss Asia Pacific World 2011 constitutes a clear violation of Wikipedia's Five Pillars, hence the content policies. I have already detailed my concerns at the article's talk page PS: I am not referring to the placements. Best regards. Kanovski (talk) 10:59, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi again. To clarify and sum up my point of view quickly: If someone started a Wikipedia entry claiming that the USA was "rocked by" one petty theft ("shoplifting") and the article then cited a source claiming that the USA had been "completely destroyed", I would call the entry vandalism because such articles fuel the sentiment that Wikipedia shouldn't be taken seriously. Since I consult Wikipedia at least a hundred times per week, I find errors troubling, unreliable articles disturbing and vandalism outright upsetting. All best, Kanovski (talk) 12:49, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- Kanovski, I have to ask are you a pageant official of some kind from this particular pageant? Because you seem to invest alot of time trying to change sourced facts?--BabbaQ (talk) 15:28, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- First, i'd like to point out that vandalism requires bad faith. An editing dispute in good faith is not vandalism. I've seen no vandalism here. :) Second, this is exactly the reason why we have talk pages. I suggest looking at Wikipedia's dispute resolution processes for some help here. Administrators will not engage in content disputes. - Philippe 18:41, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Problem
[edit]This guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Al_Lemos, thinks he is the owner of the article Partido da Imprensa Golpista. Mr. Lemos spend months doing almost no editing, but if someone move this article, it reverses at the same time. He is just "Gatekeeping" some articles at Wiki-en, by persona interests. 186.205.17.133 (talk) 13:40, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- The anonymous fellow above visits en:Wiki from time to time just to try impose a very biased version of the article Partido da Imprensa Golpista. I'm just trying to do my work as a productive editor and don't have time to waste with such kind of monomaniac. - Al Lemos (talk) 13:48, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- I want to explain something. In Brazil, we have brazilians that HATE brazilian press, because one Political Party (PT), who is communist, do a lot of propaganda against press, trying to force a censorship agains press (with the support of the people), because Brazilian press denounces theft and breaches of the PT. So, this "Al Lemos" is a PT-lover, Hugo Chavez-lover, Fidel Castro-lover, communist-dictatorship-lover (yes, in Brazil have a lot of this). Problably he is affiliated or employee of PT, and he tries to CENSOR what does not apply to him. He think he is the OWNER of this article, and into 1 month he does almost nothing here, but appears as a flash to revert edits that article. You need to understand that he is not here to help Wikipedia, he is here with a political mission: "attack brazilian press" (no, I'm not crazy, but I see this crazy people all day, here in Brazil). This guy defendes dictatorship in Brazil, the destruction of the brazilian press! When you will block this guy to edit here? 186.205.17.133 (talk) 14:41, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- I want to explain something, too. In Brazil, we have people that deserves a straitjacket. This fellow is one of those persons ;) - Al Lemos (talk) 15:15, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Stop the madness. Hush, both of you. I won't have that stuff happening here, and you should both be ashamed. I rarely admin here anymore, since taking my job at the Foundation. If you have an issue with an article, take it to the Administrator Noticeboard/Incidents, conveniently found at WP:AN/I. Leaving random talk page messages won't help. If you're trying to reach me in my capacity as an employee of the Foundation, I won't get involved in content disputes. Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:48, 2 November 2011 (UTC)- Actually, I'm going to modify my earlier comment, and apologize to Al_Lemos, who appears to be a reasonably well rounded editor, far from spending months doing almost no editing (which is ALSO okay), and I'm going to issue a block against the IP for personal attacks. My apologies, Al. Philippe Beaudette, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:52, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your patience, Philippe. Under normal conditions of temperature and pressure, I don't usually waste my time editing articles about politics - Brazilian or foreign. As much I don't appreciate the theme, I was never involved in any controversy related to it in my home Wiki. However, the type of user represented by this anonymous fanatic is unfortunately very common in the Brazilian Internet. So common, in fact, that editors intending to keep a minimum amount of neutrality are compelled, like me, to going to edit in another language. Although it still has some good editors, the Lusophone Wikipedia, with each passing day, seems more like a no man's land ravaged by brain-eating zombies... - Al Lemos (talk) 00:30, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Rcsprinter123
[edit]Could you please comment more at User Talk:Rcsprinter123#Blocked? I've raised some more concerns about what seem to me to be a disturbing overall pattern. I chose this talk page because it was the one you used most recently on Rcsprinter123's talk page, though you also used your WMF account as well, so whichever is appropriate to "answer" this concern is fine. Central notice for Berkman and SciencesPo
[edit]Hi Philippe,
The central notice currently running - http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:CentralNotice&method=listNoticeDetail¬ice=Harvard+Sciences+Po - appears to be an advert for two non-wikimedia organizations. Can it be taken down please? Thanks --Fæ (talk) 23:23, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

- Okay, thanks, though in this case you did reply at the time on my user talk page. --Fæ (talk) 11:33, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- I did? Geez, I gotta get more sleep. I've totally forgotten doing that. <sigh> I did a lot of comments that day in various places on wiki and off. Sorry for my mistaken recollection. Most likely, I got an email about it from the mailing system and responded then... which explains why, when I logged on yesterday, I still had the new messages bar. Scheunemann.joshua userspace
[edit]I'm curious as to why you felt it necessary to courtesy blank the userspace for User:Scheunemann.joshua. According to policy on courtesy blanking, it is only to be done "under rare circumstances rare circumstances, where discussion may cause harm to some person or organisation...Courtesy blanking, history blanking or oversighting should be rare, and should be performed only after due consideration." I'm wondering under which of these conditions you feel userspace courtesy blanking in this case makes it appropriate/necessary. Thanks, (talk→ LesHB ←track) 21:13, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

User ignoring guidelines/rules
[edit]Hi Philippe, may I ask your intervention to the edits by user User_talk:96.247.228.104? The guy has violated WP:nPOV, WP:ALSO, WP:STYLE..; he reverted my repairing twice in less than 24 hours, and he is mocking the orientation given at Revision history (he has repeated there what was justified to him). More specifically the guy it is trying to impose what he regards important to him (POV), so he is eliminating related links (plain and peripheral links related to the theme added by other users) in “See also” of “Psychedelic experience”, and adding doubtful links (“Superintelligence?, Collective intelligence?). Thank you for your attention. Academictask (talk) 11:36, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Wikimania
[edit]I was just figuring out my itinerary for Wikimania and spotted this one. I guess I was wrong to think COI wouldn't be covered at all at the conference ;-)
Although it's probably difficult for you to have a specific position as a WMF employee, I also thought you might be interested in some of the following efforts:
- A new essay intended to provide straightforward instructions for PR type folks who want to contribute in less controversial and generally acceptable ways
- An op-ed I'm writing for the Wikipedia Signpost based largely on feedback from several editors on both sides of the aisle.
There's also quite a few editors interested in the subject of COI, who have been having exhaustive conversations on it. I'm hopeful progress is being made, though I suspect only between us and not necessarily with the broader community. It's a starting point. User:King4057 (EthicalWiki) 17:08, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Your help requested please
[edit]Hi Philippe,
As you are aware I emailed you with a draft of my statement for Arbcom more than 24 hours ago, copying it to Jon Davies, the Wikimedia UK Chief Executive. Arbcom are treating my statement as a lie based on evidence they have seen but I have not. My statement can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Arbitration/Requests/Case/F%C3%A6/Proposed_decision#Statement. I later copied that email to all the members of the Wikimedia UK board for their information. You have not replied to that email and you have not objected to it or its factual accuracy.
In this statement I state that: "During our informal conversation, Philippe suggested that he might try to help by having a personal discussion with Risker, one of the Arbitrators active on my case, who happened to be at Wikimania. I asked that he not do that... Philippe reassured me that his conversation with Risker would only proceed if there was a clear understanding that the discussion would stay confidential and the matter would go no further if it was not productive. I capitulated on that basis. I have no idea if the meeting between Risker and Philippe went ahead or if there were other meetings."
Could you please confirm that this is a perfectly factual statement about our conversation and not a lie, as Arbcom seem to believe. Thanks --Fæ (talk) 21:56, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
