Information icon Hello, I'm Loriendrew. I noticed that you recently removed content from Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory without adequately explaining why. Control copyright icon Hello Debitpixie, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Serum Institute of India have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 15:44, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Draft:Afcons Infrastructure Limited, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hola

You have picked up some interesting articles to work on. Just be patient with them. Go through the Wikipedia guidelines for organisations if you haven't already done so - Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). DTM (talk) 06:10, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Thank you, I just went through the guidelines and it seems to me that most publicly listed firms would be good candidates for articles since they seem to fulfil most of the guidelines pretty well. I'll keep these in mind while creating new articles. Thank you Debitpixie (talk) 10:17, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Bharat Biotech. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Do not add things that are WP:PROMOTIONAL in the article ~ Amkgp 💬 17:01, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Amkgp On what basis do you claim my edits to be vandalism? Is adding new information with proper citations and an edit summary considered vandalism now? Debitpixie (talk) 17:03, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Debitpixie, Not vandalism. You tried to add trade-mark brands with citation errors. At the moment please refrain from adding such items as it makes the article look WP:PROMOTIONAL. ~ Amkgp 💬 17:07, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Amkgp You certainly did link to vandalism on your first message but I digress. Aren't all brands by default trademarked? If that were the case adding brands or making article based on said brands would be impossible, correct? Also kindly let me know what the citation errors you refer to were since I am still a relatively new user and would like to correct my errors. I will refrain from adding any such material in the meantime. I do request that you help me out here though since I was only trying to add to the article. Debitpixie (talk) 17:12, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Debitpixie, Never mind the word 'vandalism' in the notice. Apologies for the mistake. I just wanted to tell not add such things as it is under review for few weeks. Regarding citation error see this in references section with red links. You tried to define ref name="a" twice. ~ Amkgp 💬 17:26, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Amkgp I understand and will not do so again, thanks for pointing it out. I do wish to continue contributing to the article though so I will be more careful henceforth, if I do make any mistakes do point them out. As for the citation error, was I supposed to cite [1] in the infobox only? Debitpixie (talk) 17:38, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Debitpixie, As an advice don't add any citations. Only cite reliable sources. For e.g. here path.com is not a reliable source but ( "WHO | WHO prequalifies new rotavirus vaccine". WHO. Retrieved 2 July 2020. } or ( "World Health Organization grants prequalification to Bharat Biotech's Rotavirus Vaccine, ROTAVAC". @businessline. Retrieved 2 July 2020. ) is a reliable source. Please go through WP:RELIABLE to know in details. ~ Amkgp 💬 17:49, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Amkgp So if the page wasn't in review and I used WHO as a source would it be acceptable to add Rotavac in the products section or is that still a trademark issue? Besides whatever the error was I can't seem to recreate it in my User:Debitpixie/sandbox. Debitpixie (talk) 17:57, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
Debitpixie, Yes. no issues. I will add it when I get the review notification. Thank you ~ Amkgp 💬 18:07, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Reviewing articles

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I'm assuming you have read Wikipedia:New pages patrol and you can ask questions at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers, which may be the best thing to do. Don't be afraid to make a direct approach - they'll be glad of offers of help. I tend not to do reviewing as a regular thing any more; I just check the articles that are on my watchlist (I expect you have one of those already set up) because there are more than enough articles already marked for speedy deletion for me to deal with - you have to be an admin to do those. Deb (talk) 14:30, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

@Deb:, I hadn't considered asking on the talk page at all. I'll definitely do so, thanks for the recommendation. I do have a watchlist set up that I check once or twice daily for vandalism and promotional edits. If you do have any free time whatsoever let me know if Draft:Nestle India which I created a few days ago breaks any rules or appears promotional, so I can correct them as soon as possible. I tried to cite a source for every claim and avoided company sites as much as possible. Debitpixie 💬 15:03, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
It looks okay at first glance - not promotional anyway - but you could maybe do with a few more independent references. Deb (talk) 15:16, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
Using something that includes criticism of the company, like this, would be helpful in showing that you have no ulterior motive in creating the article. Deb (talk) 15:34, 26 July 2020 (UTC)
Okay that won't be an issue given the chequered history of the company, especially the instant noodles controversy they had a few years ago. I should be able to find a few independent sources for a criticism and controversy section. Thanks for checking it out! Debitpixie 💬 16:09, 26 July 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading File:Adani Ports Logo.svg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

@Jonteemil: Done

Hi debitpixie,

I have two concerns about this file you uploaded:

It's .svg, but appears to be nothing more than a container holding a JPG (the one cited in the source field). That's pretty confusing! Especially for content for which you do not have license, best to upload it in the original format, or at least one similar to the original when there are raster graphics involved.

Looking a the enclosed JPG itself, I see it also violates our non-free content policy because it is too large. WP:Image resolution has some technical details. There's a bot here on Wikipedia that can do image-reduction, but it can't operate on SVG.

Let me know if you need help working through these issues. DMacks (talk) 16:07, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi, @DMacks: The svg file is one that I converted using Inkscape, it is as you say just an svg container holding a jpg image but for various reasons it seems to fix all the scaling issues I've come across with jpeg or png files! Its the only way I know how when it comes to svg conversion. So if a better method exists kindly let me know so I can use that instead. Regarding the image resolution, I'll use the bot to resize the original image but will hold off on reuploading the svg version file until the first issue is resolved.

Do help me out here! Debitpixie 💬 16:18, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

I think it's all set now. I uploaded the actual JPG to File:Nfs-most-wanted-2012-gen-packart.jpg, with a tag for eventual size-reduction. I replaced the SVG in Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012 video game) with the JPG (and also some other style-guide fixes...see [1]). And finally, I tagged the SVG as unused nonfree content, so it will automatically get deleted in a few days. DMacks (talk) 17:03, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
@DMacks:, thank you for taking care of this for me. I'll keep the content policies you linked in mind the next time I do something similar. However, one issue still persists and its why I decided on svg in the first place. The jpeg doesn't render properly on mobile phones for instance, the picture is pixelated and appears very low quality despite the high resolution original that you just uploaded. If you can, do check it out on a smartphone of your choice and see if you can replicate what I'm seeing. Thanks! Debitpixie 💬 17:31, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
It's actually against WP policy to use a high-res image in this context, and instead it must be degraded somehow. From what I've seen, the bot does a pretty good job with scaling down and retaining the essence visually, so once that happens we'll see how it looks on various devices. DMacks (talk) 02:56, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
@DMacks: Okay, that makes sense, I'll let you know on your talk page once the bot reduces the resolution and we can talk about what to do about the format from there. Debitpixie 💬 06:06, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

Can you please stop uploading these fake SVGs please. Upload them in the correct filetype.Jonteemil (talk) 13:25, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

Jonteemil Did you miss the discussion above or are you deliberately ignoring it? Debitpixie 💬 14:28, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
What are the scaling issues that make you want to create these svg containers for raster files?Jonteemil (talk) 14:36, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
Try using any smartphone to view png/jpg logos/images on wikipedia, they almost always come out blurry and low res even if the file is relatively high res and of good quality. Debitpixie 💬 14:39, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

Changes on Adani Group

Hi Debitpixie,

This is regarding the changes reversed on Adani Group's page. The information deleted is either outdated or does not have proper citations to back it up. The figures in terms of capacity are outdated and some of the areas of functionality no longer exist for the Adani Group. The information on the page needs to be updated with the recent developments of the Group, hence the listed edits. All the edits made fall under outdated or uncited information and therefore, were clubbed together. Would like to understand on what basis were the changes reverted. Similar2me (talk) 13:30, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi @Similar2me: you removed content in many parts of the article which had appropriate citations and were related to past transactions, ownership and market share. It is not outdated content unless there is new information regarding the topic. You removed, Rajesh S. Adani's name who is still the managing director of the company, information about their installed power capacity, and mine purchase details. Such removal of content is detrimental to the quality of an article. While editing outdated content you should replace and not remove, while making sure to add citations where necessary. If you need help editing, let me know. Debitpixie 💬 13:45, 5 August 2020 (UTC)

Colours on languages section of Indian States

Sorry, the vague descriptions I gave for changing those colours was not sufficient. I was trying to give some sense of relatedness between the languages: for example on the Chhattisgarh article I tried to give warmer colours to the Indo-Aryan languages and cooler ones for the Dravidian languages. So for languages that were more related I chose similar colours, but for those that weren't I chose very different ones. However I can see why people would not find it productive. C1MM (talk) 14:30, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

Hi @C1MM: While I do appreciate your intentions to maintain uniformity across articles, your colour choices made it very hard to differentiate the languages in the chart. Besides people rarely compare the languages across different articles so ease of interpretation takes precedence over uniformity here. If you can tailor your edits in such a way that the colours are carefully chosen and appropriate talk page consensus is gathered, I feel it could be a very useful contribution.
