block
Hey, Quadell--I got your e-mail, though some time after the hubbub had died down (I'm still not here). It seems like things are fairly calm at the moment. I'm not familiar with this Bobblewik situation (though Tony1 convinced me of the foolishness of indiscriminate date-linking a long time ago), but I'm disappointed to see an admin block another admin with such flimsy reasoning--this seems like inviting wheel-warring, and remarkably similar to what put Carnildo in this pickle. By the way, I saw your name on my watchlist for the Catapult list--thanks for doing a few of those. I'll be back in a few weeks, probably, to finish off whatever's left. My best wishes in the meantime, Chick Bowen 00:43, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks
Hi - we haven't interacted before, but I wanted to say thanks for the work you have been doing around here. Note: I re-reverted the date link nonsense by Ambi that showed up on my watchlist. I am strongly in favor of ridding those useless date links. Enjoy your wikibreak, but please come back. Vsmith 15:09, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

While I absolutely stand by my edits, you are a good editor, and it is a shame to see you go. Date links are not that important, but they do have their uses, and it greatly frustrates me when people waste time with formatting crusades based on their own personal preferences. It is a shame to see you of all people go over such a thing. Ambi 02:12, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Quadell, the block of your account was totally wrong, I sincerely hope you have a nice break and come back to carry on dong all the good stuff you always do. Martin 21:33, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
You are very much appreciated here. I've seen the "community" drive good editors away before. Don't let them get you. Remember, to use the project; don't let the project use you. The JPS 21:48, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
I'd like to commend you both on your efforts to help the date situation and on your clear and rational thoughts on your user page. While I felt the block on you was not necessary, you were right that it helped increase discussion, so there's always a silver lining. Enjoy your Wikibreak, relax a bit, and please come back and help us with "Wikipedia-the-project." :o) EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 17:53, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
It's totally weird that you'd be blocked for unlinking those useless year links. There's even a bot running around these days that's unlinking years and various dates (like August 1 and so forth). I hope you come back. Wikipedia needs editors like you. --Fang Aili 說嗎? 18:11, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
Quadell, you're one of the good ones! DON'T LEAVE WE NEED YOU! EdwinHJ | Talk 19:34, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
This is ridiculous. You were blocked for removing date links by hand, and then an admin went through your edits and reverted all of them. Outrageous. I can see no basis for blocking for what is in essence a format or style dispute (not even a content dispute); the second is verging on wikistalking. Please do not let this fuss stop you making the valuable contribution for which you are held in high regard by many wikipedians. -- ALoan (Talk) 22:49, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
Quadell, I wholeheartedly agree with you. This has been a thorny issue for a while now, but recently escalated since Bobblewik's mass delinking. A new guideline clarifying dates is in need and maybe you can help. I'm a 'cleanup guy' too and been lambasted several times. Don't let it get you down! Take a short break if necessary, but please don't leave. You're a great Wikipedian and your presence is felt. :) GfloresTalk 19:55, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Hi Quadell, while Talrias has been a good friend of mine for a good while, I must say I disagree with his course of actions, and have pointed this out to him. I hope your Wikibreak does some good, and I look forward to seeing you back and editing in full force. Your work is much appreciated --«Θ» zeerus 14:11, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, I see that in my absence you took a lot of unwarranted flak. There is a lot for me to catch up on but it is clear that you were doing a great job. I think you have responded well. bobblewik 10:07, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
Guilt
I feel guilty for not unblocking Quadell. I knew that the block was wrong, becasue it was by a party to a content dispute, (regardless of the merits of the dispute itself) but I hoped that the furore would die down, as it had when Bobblewik was blocked. I also worried that I was not independent enough. Now I wonder if it's more a case of "They came for Bobblewik, I did nothing. They came for Quadell I did nothing.... " Rich Farmbrough 22:10 26 March 2006 (UTC).

Image:Notre_dame-paris-view.jpg
Hello, the image Image:Notre_dame-paris-view.jpg which you seem to have uploaded is nominated for delisting from Wikipedias Featured Pictures. The prime reason is the image resolution, which is felt by some voters to be below the current standards (which have evolved along with digital camera technology since the promotion of the picture). If you still have a higher resolution version, uploading it over the old version would be highly appreciated. Nowadays storage space is of no concern anymore and it is policy to upload the highest available quality. Thanks! --Dschwen 21:32, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
Remedy
I don't intend to be reverting any mass-delinkings unless someone starts making them again. Bobblewik urged a lot of people to start making these edits before he himself stopped, and should someone like Cyde or David start up, I'll revert them. If that doesn't happen, however, there is no issue. Ambi 23:28, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello, you have tagged this image with {{PD-ineligible}}. However, it is clear that this tag is not proper. It could be used for say, simple chemical structural formulas, but not for photos! Please read Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. If no proper license will be added in seven days, the image will be re-tagged with {{no source}} and deleted. Hi Quadell, could you please provide a fair use rationale for Image:Ac.eisenhower2.jpg? It's been listed at Copyright Problems for quite some time, and with that fact along with the new CSD criteria that states images tagged with fairuse or Non-free fair use in can be deleted if they have no rationale, leads me to deleting the image.
If you can't provide a fair use rationale, I'm afraid I'm going to have to delete it. If you have any quesitons, let me know. Thanks. --lightdarkness (talk) 15:44, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Scylla.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Scylla.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 09:59, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Please offer your opinion, vote, or whatever about your choice for the image to be used with the Islamic Barnstar Award at the Barnstar proposals page. Well, I'm just going to have to re-list them, unless you actually have a reason for thinking they're not copyvios that you didn't care to state. They clearly are. I gave the source at [1]. It's pretty obvious that the images were simply cropped out of the larger GIF and had their contrast adjusted. The source is not a US government agency, so they are therefore not PD, and the page carries a clear copyright notice. TCC (talk) (contribs) 20:25, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Copyright subpages
I think it might be best not to remove the Images subpage when they are done, so that someone looking at the day page (for looking at the page history), can see clearly that there is also an Images subpage. Although, of course, it can mean someone will click on it when it is empty, so I'm not sure. —Centrx→talk • 04:44, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- Make sure to check the page history and the Talk pages. Aside from there being a possible salvageable revision there, in this one, for example, I had moved a new rewritten copy over the deleted copyright infringement. —Centrx→talk • 06:46, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- When keeping the non-infringing parts of articles, or rewriting otherwise copyright-infringing articles, it is best to delete it first, ridding the copyright infringement from the page history, and then start a new page with those parts. I hope you don't think I am getting on your case, I am just coming across these things in my copyvio-intersecting travels and want to give friendly advice. —Centrx→talk • 01:11, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Pedro del Valle
Thank you for looking into the Pedro del Valle article. I have taken into account your recommendations and have subsitituted the word "massacre" with "the outcome of the battle" and I deleted the word "Anti-Semetic" in its place repolaced it with the word "controversial". I alos eliminated the last sentence which stated that the organization was lambasted by the media for its views, becuase even though such a thing was stated by the website in question, it did not provide a reference as to who and which media did the lambasting. I hope that I have taken care of the situation. Tony the Marine 15:44, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you once again (how many times am I going to do that? smile). When I wrote the article I wanted to create a balance between his Military career and his later life. I did't want to overshadow one with the other. Personally, I saw it as a battle between the positive against and the negative. By creating such a balance I figured that I would let the reader reach his or her own conclusion as to Who was this Pedro del Valle. You must admit, the subject is an interesting person for study. Tony the Marine 16:02, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
You created this template for foreign (non-U.S.) currencies some time ago, indicating that they are possibly copyrighted and used under fair use. I have looked far and wide and have not been able to find any discussion on the topic of the copyright status of foreign currencies. I recently uploaded a bunch of images of coins and bills and tagged them all with Template:Money, and I was wondering if as the template creator you had any special knowledge on this subject, as I'd like to re-tag as many of these images with free-use licenses as I can. Thanks — GT 18:05, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Uh, this image is a copyvio imho. Your tagging with Creative Commons is not correct. Errabee 19:26, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I did read it. In fact, I placed it there. It says it may be copied. It says nothing about making derivative works, which is part of the CC-BY-SA license. Errabee 19:30, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know of a license that could be used here. Perhaps we could ask a copyright expert (but I don't know any). Errabee 19:36, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
