Hello there. (Happy New Year on your new 2009 page!!!) I added a bit more in regards to the GA criteria for the nomination. There are two maps added for the location bit, a section of the first nations for the local natives, and their nation. Added a bit more on broadness, ie the before and the after. SriMesh | talk 01:31, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just a bit? Thank you for doing this. I'll see if I can take a look at it tomorrow. Rufous-crowned Sparrow (talk) 06:02, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Added some more, and re-arranged sections in chronological order. Query about the point Who are these Icelanders in the second section?...should I briefly mention the campaign to settle the Canadian west as initiated by the Dominion Lands Act, or is it where the Icelanders came from and that they were emmigrating from Iceland for various reasons, Volcano eruption, etc.? or would both the above be pertinent....? So Icelanders coming to Canada were both push and pull, Canada was pulling them with enticements, and Iceland was pushing them with Volcanoes, and etc.SriMesh | talk 04:09, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have had a go at it but not very satisfied. The two source illustrations I could find were contradictory about head coloration and not enough detail visible. Shyamal (talk) 15:32, 12 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Aceros leucocephalus - English Common Name

[edit]

Hi RcS, While it is probable that the captive bird shown is originally from Mindanao, the species A. leucocephalus does not range only on Mindanao. For this reason, the nomenclature used should be that used generally, i.e., Writhed Hornbill. Further, you use "Wrinkled" Hornbill, and this refers to the species Aceros corrugatus, which this is not, and which does not range in the Philippines.Steve Pryor (talk) 09:11, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Should it be moved? Yes. The two taxonomic authorities to look at first, are the Howard & Moore, and then secondarily, the Clements. Generally speaking also the HBW is pretty good on taxonomy. As far as the Sibley-Monroe - forget it. There is no academic taxonomic group behind the list any longer as far as I know, and the list itself is outdated for many things - they have not published anything since about 1996 updating it. The IOC indications, are not to be considered a taxonomic source. They are mistakenly thought to be a taxonomic list, but the publication provides only suggested homologation as far as nomenclature (i.e., the English Common Names). I do have the Howard & Moore, 3° Ed., that I encoded myself into Excel, including the races. If you can figure out how to send me a note to my e-mail (I don't want my e-mail generally available, and I don't know how to send you an e-mail since I am new to the Wiki), then I can send the file to you so that you have an authoritative source to refer to.

Writhed Hornbill is certainly the primary name, and Mindanao Wrinkled Hornbill is not.--Steve Pryor (talk) 08:27, 12 April 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cuckooroller (talkcontribs)

When I initially joined Wikipedia, I didn't want to edit the California Condor page until all of my changes were in, therefore making it one massive info dump. I instead wrote the article in my sandbox and have preserved it as an archive. Is there some regulation or another stating that it needs to be deleted?
