Article: Beans On Toast (Musician)

Hi

I did actually use sources from thetimesonline.co.uk and also well respected websites on the topic of UK musicians. I added them as references to begin with and was in the process of creating a proper ref. box etc., I refreshed the page to check my editing so far was correct and it had disappeared, all in the space of around 2 minutes. I continue to be accused of making improper articles where as far as I can see I only have made one in protest to these accusations! Threatening to disrupt Wikipedia? Or wishing to keep my name away from a group of people I feel I have been let down by. I am sorry if I caused undue animosity whilst in a state of frustration, however I felt my point had to be made. Thank you, if you could move it I would highly appreciate that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zakistan (talkcontribs) 19:11, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

..for saving my article from deletion. I bet the guy that suggested deletion didn't have a ship named after him.

You have made a number of recommendations about this article that are all acronyms. COI? AFD? I am happy to make whatever improvements are needed, but I need some guidance.

As an IT professional, I have to say that wikipedia is one very odd place. Invent their own markup language so that editors don't have to learn HTML? Bizarre.

cheers

LOL! No worries. When if comes to speedy deletion nominations, I am very strict, so any credible assertion will stop it from being deleted that way. There are other ways it can be deleted - PROD (Proposed Deletion) or AFD (Article for deletion). You can read about these here: WP:PROD and WP:AFD. However, the fact that someone decided to name a ship after him should stop anyone from nominating them!
COI stands for Conflict of Interest. You've declared that he was your uncle, which is good. However, a bit of clarification on the talk page as to whether or not you knew him, plus making your sources of information very clear. Ideally, everything should be verifiable by an accessible third party source. So (for example) an unpublished diary that has been handed down to you is arguably a third party source, but it isn't accessible to anyone else.
The other issue of COI is that there is a danger that you might skim over some aspects of his life. I'm not implying that you would (intentionally or otherwise), but there is the danger that someone could perceive that to be the case.
What I'll do is I'll see if there is a wiki project out there where you might be able to recruit help in expanding the article, and who will be able to ensure that the article remains neutral and balanced in tone. Stephen! Coming... 21:53, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Found a couple of things for you to look at. First of all, have a look at this article: [William R. Caddy]] (one that I picked at random from the category of people killed in WW2). That might give you some ideas as to the lay out of the article. It falls in the project of Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Military, so if you go there and ask for help with the article, hopefully someone will be able to give you assistance. Stephen! Greetings StephenBuxton - thanks for the note on my talk page. Fully agree with your criterion. it's just that my professional bias got the better of me and I considered it as a company, not a school! Sorry you were troubled. Cheers! --Technopat (talk) 11:44, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Sir, I understand Wikipedia's policy and assure you Tau Delta Chi is legitimate. I have much more to add to the page; however, I must now leave for class. This organization was created to support our military members and our paperwork is in process to receive charter from our sheltering institution. Should I need to provide more details to legitimize our page please let me know.

Bjcast (talk) 16:34, 29 June 2010 (UTC) Very respectfully, BM1 Cast, Bobby J Bjcast

There was nothing in the article to suggest that it was notable. I did notice that the date of its creation was today's date, which means that whilst the motives behind the organisation are honourable, it is not eligible for an article here yet. Please have a read of Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause. Stephen! Coming... 20:48, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

unjust deleting

Hi ,

I am Coralyne (journalist for a local french magazine (paris Fashion) and Pr and I have been trying to publish an article about a notable company which has been around for quiet a while now and has been working with notable personalities and companies as Sweet face by Jlo, No mas (the finisher bag), Daniella Kallmeyer (winner of project runway).Aniv Von Borche(notable fashion designer for Scotland fashion week) etc etc Creative Business house constructed its notability based on its unicity: no other company around the world provide the services they do.CBH let the designer be a designer and focuses on the creative part of the business. CBH has also sponsored several kids from developing countries by providing them with an education and sewing skills they would be able to use for the rest of their life. It goes without saying that Creative business house is not a company I am trying to advertise but a company which deserve a wikipedia article because of its notability in United states, in Europe, Asia and Africa.

I look forward for your cooperation and feedback.

Coralyne —Preceding unsigned comment added by Linebuilder (talkcontribs) 17:38, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

First off, the article might not have been intentionally written as an advert, but that was the tone that came across. It was also written, not by you, but by the editor User:EmilyMooreCBH. This lead me to the conclusion that it was indeed written as such (please have a read of the Wiki policy on adverts).
If it was you who wrote the article, then to avoid the risk of being accused of Sock puppetry, you clear up the discrepancy between the two account names.
As the article stands at the moment, I cannot undelete it, and without third party sources to demonstrate that the company is notable (see WP:CORP), it will remain deleted. If you disagree with me, I would suggest you take it to Deletion Review, providing evidence why the company is notable. Others will assess the article and determine whether or not my deletion was correct. Stephen! Coming... 20:58, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

I am very disappointed with the fact that struggling musicians can not create their own page on Wikipedia. I guess you could say im an unhappy customer. I don't understand why small bands are not allowed to publish just because they are small and have not had "Publicity" as such. It's like picking on the little guy really. Do you take pleasure in deleting people's pages? I understood that Wikipedia was "THE FREE ENCYCLOPEDIA" not the "STEPHEN BUXTON ENCYCLOPEDIA". All I wanted to do was create a page for my band but no. its not allowed because it's not important enough. Let me just say that's the biggest load of crap iv'e ever heard in my entire life.

False positive report

The other day you submitted a false positive report because you found yourself unable to edit someone's talk page. If you have not already seen, it was due to an accident in the code of a particular edit filter which was quickly fixed by the MediaWiki software itself. The code has been reverted to the last good version and this should not happen again. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, however; if people hadn't reported it we wouldn't have known there was a problem. I have removed the false positive reports as I felt it was easier to just go to the people who submitted them directly. Soap 23:39, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Rutland Tea Company

Hi I am new to writing on Wikipedia, I was writing the article so that I could add this company to the list of Tea suppliers in the UK, should the list of Tea supplier just be left to the corporate giants? Rutland Tea are selling teas all over the world as well as around its home base.

I think it could be interesting for a customer of Rutland Tea in Australia, Germany, USA etc to be able to look the company up and see where they started, who they are etc.

Please can you tell me the turnover limit to be listed on Wikipedia, if it is not based on turnover please let me know the criteria.

Best regards

Richard —Preceding unsigned comment added by Richardw88 (talkcontribs) 15:48, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

It's not based on turnover, but on notability. Have a read of WP:CORP for the notability requirements for companies. If you know that the company meets the notability requirements, please let me know and I will restore the page so you can add the information.
I do need to ask this question though: Are you connected with the company in any way? If so, I would strongly recommend that you do not write an article about it - please read the policy on Conflict of Interest. However, if you are not connected, then it won't be an issue. Stephen! Can you point out where I'm going wrong with it. Perhaps point out the ares I need to refine.

So I will suggest that you have a read of this page, and also try and avoid any peacock words. Also, can I just check that you are nothing to do with the company? If you are, then I would urge you not to write the article at all (see Conflict of Interest Policy). If you aren't you may wish to make it clear, as your username could be taken as such (although I accept that New Zealand is a big country, and more than one person there might want to use the letters NZ in their username).

I love Al Jarreau! Don't want to be accused of "trolling" the AN board, so I'll respond here (hope it helps). Cite news, Cite web - if you read the pages carefully, you'll know what parameters to use. Ask away if you you need additional guidance - referencing can certainly be confusing. As it is, this article is very poorly referenced: every sentence should ideally have a cite at the end (except in the lead). Cheers, Stephen... :> Doc9871 (talk) 11:43, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Cheers for that. It looks like there is a useful tool (mentioned on the AN page) that will help for those quickie links. Speedy Deletion of GuelphDemoCamp

I'd like to contest this deletion, but can't figure out where to place the tag. The page is new and under construction and should have been marked as such. I'm going to recreate it and add those tags - please let me know if I'm doing this wrong!

Saffyre9 (talk) 20:08, 23 July 2010 (UTC)saffyre9

Creating it in your user area (known as Userfying the article) is a good way of working on it. However, unless you address the notability issue, the article will not be able to be placed in mainspace. Have a read of the notability requirements to see what needs to be done.
But before you do that, are you connected with the company? In which case, you must not write the article, as there would be a clear conflict of interest (COI); see the COI Policy.
If you do move it into the main area without addressing the notability issues, it will be deleted again; if not by me by another administrator. If you disagree with the deletion, the approach to take is Deletion Review.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Stephen! Coming... 17:16, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Credible assertion of notability is not as stringent as verifiable notability. To avoid speedy deletion, an article just needs to give a credible assertion, even if it is unreferenced. There is nothing to stop people from having a Wikipedia article if all they are famous for is for something on the internet (such as a blog or a podcast). However, the person needs to meet the requirements of the notability guidelines. I have had a look to see if there is anything that can show that he should have an article, but I cannot find anything. So I am afraid I won't be restoring the article.

Excellent. Thank you. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 16:21, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Can I just PROD it? Based on WP:ENTERTAINER (and the example of [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Liz West (2nd nomination) ]]) it seems pretty clear the article doesn't assert enough notability to meet the criteria; I'd rather not waste everybody's time going through an AFD if it doesn't need to. And you know how I feel about starting AFDs. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 17:14, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

Well, I can't claim that I know your feelings about starting AFDs, but I do appreciate that as you have no user account you can't initiate them. If it is unsourced, then PRODBLP would be the way to go. Just remember that articles (like Sarah Howells) that assert notability are not candidates for speedy deletion under A7. Stephen! Coming... 21:39, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
I usually interpret that as "credibly asserts," which can incorporate the specific guidelines for various industries. Sarah, for example, would fall under Entertainer, and there's no credible assertion that she meets that particular set of criteria. And for the record, there is a work-around for IPs at AFD, but it involves a few extra steps that always includes soliciting the assistance of a registered user. I'm sure there are times the regulars at the AFD discussion page get tired of seeing my requests. In any case, thanks! 69.181.249.92 (talk) 01:21, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

There was nothing in there to indicate that he was notable; in fact everything about the article indicated that he wasn't - the main thing being that he had not released any CDs. Have a read of WP:BIO.
The other thing about the article was that there was negative unsourced material in there - parental drug use, disciplinary issues, etc. Wikipedia has a policy of immediate removal of such items (see WP:BLP). Had there been something about the person that was notable, I would have just removed the BLP material. However, as there was nothing worth saving, I deleted it.
If you can show me that he is notable, I will restore some of the page for you. Otherwise, it will have to remain deleted. Alternatively, take it to Deletion Review. Stephen! Coming... 09:22, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Union

Hi, I wish to create a page for the band Union, however i have noticed that the page has previously been deleted. What would i need to do to prevent the page from being deleted immediately?

Musicaltheory (talk) 10:41, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi! I'm assuming you are referring to the article I deleted (Union (band 2), not the existing article Union (band).
For an article to be acceptable for Wikipedia, it needs to meet certain criteria, the main one being that it is of a notable subject. There is a set of notability guidelines that are specific for bands, which you can read here. If you believe that Union are notable, then by all means create the page, ensuring that you state why the band is notable in the article.
At this point I should point out that if you are in anyway connected with the band (other than being a fan) such as a member, publicist or manager, then I would caution against writing the article. This is because it would be classed as a conflict of interest. The full guidelines may be read here.
Assuming that you aren't connected with the band and you do believe it is notable, then go ahead and create the article. If you create it in mainspace, you should be aware that it is given a proper name according to the naming conventions in the Manual of Style - see WP:TITLE. I would also suggest you add the template {{new page}} to the top of the article; this should give you a bit of time to work on it.
An alternative (and a method I would recommend) is to "Userfy" the page. This means that you are not writing the article in the main encyclopedia, but in a page within your user area. This means that you can work on the page at your leisure, and then have it moved to the encyclopedia when it is ready. For instructions as to what to do, read WP:USERFY.
If you have any more questions, please drop me a line. Stephen! Coming... 11:09, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Robertson Bullies EP

I disagree. "Two members of notable act" isn't an assertation of notability if the two members don't have their own article. One of the act's other albums was already deleted successfully via A9, so I see no reason why the others can't go too. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 16:18, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

I suspect this is one of those cases where it is borderline/shade of grey/could go either way, depending on who the admin is who reviews the deletion. That and I mis-read the opening sentence (my brain edited out the section of the sentence that stated it was by two of the members, rather than the band as a whole). I would still have declined it for speedy deletion, but on the grounds of marginal notability being asserted, rather than for the reason I gave you. I'm of the school of "give an article a chance" rather than "delete, delete, delete". Anyway, I see that the article has been deleted now, and for A9 as well! LOL! Stephen! deletion of India Bull Riders topic

Good Evening Sir,

I created one topic named as India Bull Riders which was deleted by you Sir. Kindly provide me the information about it.

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sorabh.khilery (talkcontribs) 12:57, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

The article was deleted as there was nothing in the article to indicate that it was a notable organisation. Have a read of WP:NOTABLE for an idea of what makes an article notable. If you believe it is, let me know why, and I'll see what I can do. Stephen! Coming... 13:01, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Sir INDIA BULL RIDER is vintage & royal enfield(oldest working company of motor bikes) bike club....this club has maximum no.s of his on google after companies website. It is worth to update it as I feel it will help people to know more biking easily. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sorabh.khilery (talkcontribs) 14:09, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I cannot see anything that shows that the club is notable. Numbers of hits on Google is not considered an indication of notability. If you disagree and still believe that the article should be created, then I would suggest you take it to Deletion Review. If you do that, please make sure that you show exactly why the club is notable, including some verifiable third party sources. Stephen! Coming... 15:20, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Good Evening Sir, Sir this is fastest growing club in world and if people will google it the again wikipedia will help people to know it better also apart from this wikipedia is a knowledge base for all such things so am just trying to add some more imp.(might not be much noticable today but in near future def. it will be). So pls help me to get this topic approve. I will be very greatfull to you Thanks in advance :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sorabh.khilery (talkcontribs) 17:31, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

There are a number of issues that mean that the article would probably be deleted very quickly. I'll address them one by one
  1. It is not enough to say that this is the fastest growing club in the world, you need to show that it is. What are your sources? Has it been reported in the press that it is, other than by a press release? Has the Guiness Book of Records declared that it is the fastest growing club? This is the first major obstacle you will need to overcome. Is the club notable according to verifiable third party sources? Have a read of WP:NOTABLE and WP:VERIFY and be honest with yourself - is it really notable?
  2. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. It isn't enough to say that the club will be notable in the future - it has to be notable today, or have been notable in the past. Have a read of WP:CRYSTAL.
  3. Are you a member of the club? If so, then I would strongly urge you not to create the article, even if the club was notable. This is because it would be a conflict of interest. Have a read of Conflict of Interest to get a better understanding.
You could create the article as a userfied page (see WP:USERFY) which would give you chance to work on it before submitting it for approval. However, if you cannot address the points I have stated above, then I would suggest that you save your energy as it would be wasted (sorry!). What I would suggest you do, as you clearly have a love of these bikes, is to help at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Motorcycling. I think you will find that a lot more worthwhile than writing an article for it to be deleted. Stephen! Coming... 09:57, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Regarding Astro Empires

Hi Stephen. If possible, I'd like your assistance on the Astro Empires article. It's being considered for deletion, however this game is quite notorious in Portugal and other countries, and already has an article on the Portuguese Wikipedia here. It's mostly based on interviews of the game creator to major newspapers in Portugal and a review from one of the most notorious gaming websites for Portugal (MyGames), which have their own cable TV shows as well. I believe it has earned its place on the English Wikipedia as well, considering the game is mostly played by American, Canadian and British people. Let me know your thoughts. P.S.: Sorry for not using an account here, but the username I use for the PT Wikipedia is already taken, so I need to have my username changed first. You can find me here. Cheers. --85.240.43.160 (talk) 15:41, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Kyung-Jun Kim page

Hi Stephen, You reviewed my CSD on the above article, and I'd like to ask if you can revisit this. Having sorted through the layout I believe the article has been created by the subject as an online CV, and the achievements mentioned are a pretty standard range of activities one finds on a performer's resumé. As I'm quite new (as a registered user, although I've been editing for ages), do feel free to slap me down if I'm out of line! Thanks. TheMagnificentSpider (talk) 13:02, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

You're not out of line, and there is nothing wrong with what you did - you made a good faith judgement, and dealt with it in a manner you saw as appropriate. So for me to slap you down? Naaaa.
On to the matter at hand. I agree, it does look like a resume, but that in itself is not a reason for speedy deletion. For speedy deletion citing lack of notability, the article must not demonstrate any notability at all. If it is asserted (and it need not even be referenced), then the article is not a candidate for speedy deletion. In this case, references were given, and there is assertion of notability through winning national competitions - more than enough to prevent speedy deletion. However, there are still avenues for deletion. The first is WP:PROD, and the second is WP:AFD. With PROD, if he does remove the notice, remember that it isn't like removing a speedy notice. The third option is to improve the article; turn the one-line achievements into paragraphs.
Something else you may wish to consider is (if you think it is the artiste creating it) notifying the conflict of interest people at WP:COI/N.
Hope that helps. Stephen! Coming... 10:47, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Re-created 3D-Coat article

Hello. I just re-created an article 3D-Coat which you deleted at some point in the past. I have no particular attachment to this article and don't much care if you want to delete it again, my motive in creating it is that somebody put a direct link to the software's website into Template:3D software, and I thought it would be more useful to have an article noting the software's existence than to just delete the link completely as spam. (The person who did that was one Phil Nolan, who just seems to be a 3D artist rather than somebody personally invested in 3D-Coat, so I don't think it was spam really.) Thought I should mention it, anyway.  Card Zero  (talk) 13:53, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

Iron Lion Firm page

Stephen,

I would like to get the deleted page back so I can add in a link proving notability. BTW, how many references do I need to establish notability?

Thanks!

ILFCruze (talk) 16:10, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Deletion Review is the place to appeal decisions. As for establishing notability, at least 2 independent and reliable sources is usually sufficient to ensure that it is notable. Have a read of the notability page, paying particular note to the organisations and companies section.
However, I do need to remind you that it is not considered a good idea to create an article about a group you are closely involved with. Before you get too involved with writing the article, please read the policy on conflict of interest Stephen! Coming... 22:35, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

I was just enquiring as to why you have deleted the abberline band page? It was in early stages, and the information on it was true. I peronally wrote the artile with help from my fellow band memebers.

How would I have done that a {db|a10 } ?♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:47, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Not quite sure what you're asking. If you're asking why it was a G10, then it was because (amongst other things) of accusations of being a "daddy f***er" in the opening paragraph. If you're asking how to tag something for speedy as an attack, you need to blank the page, then replace with {{db-g10|blanked=yes}}. Stephen! Coming... 11:38, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

I know why it was a speedy G10 but I wasn't sure how to db it as an attack. db-g10. Right. I did actually initially place {{db-personal attack}} on it and it didn't work. I'm going to redirect this.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:43, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
