Re: Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

I certainly wouldn't object. IMO, both MvC3 and the MvC series page could use it... -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 19:37, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

If a character is playable, we shouldn't need to add them as a cameo appearance in the same game, though alternate versions that appear as separate characters would stay. I also think that we don't need to mention WHERE a character makes a cameo so long as their cameo status is established on its own. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 13:58, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

I dunno; seems fine to me. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 18:48, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Tough call. I dunno about Rush; I put Issun as a cameo since he only hops around on Ammy's back at the start and end of a match, and doesn't actually do any fighting or help with the moves...but since Megs is the playable one and not him, I'd put him as a cameo instead. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 02:44, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Saw articles

Thank you for your contributions to the List of Saw characters and Saw II: Flesh & Blood. Also a big thank you for helping out with the Saw 3D page. The page was protected in May until October 22 (the then-planned release date) because of anonymous users posting crazy people in the cast, amongst other unhelpful edits. It's probably the same people doing it. Anyway, the page is going to get hit by a lot of these edits in the upcoming week. Apparently I've read that some people in another country will get to see Saw 3D this weekend... so I'm scared someone will be posting spoilers---just like ole' smart Lionsgate releasing that clip of Jill for only god knows why. Re: Voices

It probably wouldn't hurt to do so for now. We can get rid of them later when the game's out, at which point the game's credits will be the only source we need.

Just for the record, here's who we know 100% and where to find a source.

- Deadpool: Nolan North (US, confirmed by Seth Killian in a UStream chat; the link's probably in the Deadpool Bugle's archives somewhere)
- Dante: Reuben Langdon (US, confirmed at SDCC where he did an interview on Capcom's UStream)
- Trish: Danielle Burgio (US, see Dante)
- Morrigan: Rie Tanaka (JP, confirmed at TGS, where she appeared on stage with Niitsuma at one of the game demos)
- Spider-Man: Josh Keaton (US, confirmed via Keaton's FaceBook)
- Wesker: DC Douglas (US, confirmed via Douglas's FaceBook), Joji Nakata (JP, see Morrigan)
- MODOK: Wally Wingert (US, confirmed via Wingert's website)

Additional notes:
- Despite sounding near-identical, Kyle Hebert said back when the game was first announced that he hadn't been called in to do Ryu. Of course, there was probably some NDA business going on there at the time, so it wouldn't surprise me if he actually WAS playing Ryu, but we can always verify that when we get the credits.
- Dee Bradley Baker confirmed he's not doing Joe, and that it's a different actor in the videos. Seeing as it doesn't sound the least bit like him, I'm willing to bet there's no NDA stuff and that it's really not him. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 03:11, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

WANI ♪♫♪ 06:26, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
As I thought. No, there is no absolute need for a secondary source since the episode has aired. --AussieLegend (talk) 09:33, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
I would argue that there is, at least in the interest of slowing the hell down. We aren't in a hurry here, and shouldn't be. By posting the reveal information from the end of the episode, we are (apart from failing to source information not generally available to the readership yet) interfering with Glee Project's copyright. They charge more for commercial airtime for the last commercial than they do for the first. That's tv advertising 101. I'm really hoping this sort of fast-draw edit doesn't happen again. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 13:49, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
If the episode has aired, there's nothing at all wrong with posting the information and copyright isn't even an issue, especially once the episode has aired. The US isn't the only TV market in the world. If we were concerned about advertising we'd have to refrain from posting anything until a program had aired everywhere in the world. --AussieLegend (talk) 14:03, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Again, its a copyvio to release that sort of info onthe same day the episode airs. I am not talking about waiting until it broadcasts everywhere; just wait until the reviewers can get a word in the day afterwards. After all, the encyclopedia isn't about our observations, opinions, etc. - its about what cited sources say. Don't use WP:V as an argument because - quite pointedly, one wasn't offered; indeed, it was initially argued that one wasn't even necessary. Don't use WP:SPOILER, either, since I wasn't advocating waiting an extreme amount of time - 24 hours at most. Why the hell is there such a hurry to beat the reviewers to the punch? - Jack Sebastian (talk) 14:55, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
"its a copyvio to release that sort of info onthe same day the episode airs" - Really? Do you have a source for that? --AussieLegend (talk) 15:12, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Glee Project edits

Here's the thing, Wani: while we don't worry about spoilers in Wikipedia, it does tend to infringe on the copyright of the show to post who is eliminated the very day the show airs. How does it do this, you may ask? Most people watch the program for the end of show reveal. The show is predicated upon this, and advertising for the commercials before that are more expensive than earlier breaks. There is a reason for that pricing schedule. When you rush to reveal the end of the show, why would anyone watch?
We are not in a hurry here in Wikipedia. Period. The mindset that we should be rushing to get info into articles is both irritating and anathema to what we seek to accomplish in the encyclopedia. I'm not going to revert you again, since its the day after (and, of course, the damage is done), but I think you should seriously reconsider before doing something like that again. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 13:45, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Yep, I am wrong, I guess. I raised a point of concern, and received clarification. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 20:10, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
And one more thing. While I certainly understand your position about rushing to edit articles...as far as I am aware, there isn't any sort of style guide on Wikipedia instructing the users on how quickly they should add information. The information I add to the Glee Project article is verifiable, and I'm not breaking any of Wikipedia's policies to my knowledge. If it "irritates" you about how quickly I like to update articles, like the Glee Project, then I'm sorry you feel that way. Once again, just show me a source that states "rushing to get info into articles is [an] anathema to what we seek to accomplish in the encyclopedia", and I'll adhere to your concern. Neddy1234

Hello. I am just placing this here to thank you for your review of several of my articles, consecutive critisism always helps. However, I can't get over my dissatisfaction with the proposed deletion of Tiffany Derry, I strongly believe that she (chef Derry) is notable not only for her appearances on Top Chef. I also believe that many other Top Chef-related articles such as Kelly Liken, Dale Levitski, and Angelo Sosa are equally as notable as Tiffany Derry (if not less notable), but these articles were not proposed for deletion. I believe that if the content of Tiffany Derry is really as non-notable as you claim, it would not have lasted as long as it did (I wrote that article two years ago). Even so, if the content must be removed, I believe that we should redirect the article to Top Chef (season 8). This would, however, eliminate any reference to Tiffany's experience as an executive chef at a notable Dallas restaurant from Wikipedia.

Again, I thank you for your support, and I'm sorry to sound so defensive with this message. I simply believe that this article should be kept. (I wrote a list of sources on the page and on the talk page, I believe that they are notable enough to keep the article).

Neddy1234

Thank you for your response. However, the length of stay for an article does not indicate if the subject is notable or not. Many of the Top Chef contestant-related articles you have created have remained underdeveloped, (but most importantly) unsourced stubs over the years that have not established notability for these people beyond their appearances on Top Chef. I honestly would have nominated Dale Levitski and Angelo Sosa for deletion as well, but after nominating five of your articles all in the same day, I didn't want to seem like I was targeting you in bad faith or something. However, I may proceed to nominate them in the future, if their articles remain the same condition. To answer your question on the Tiffany Derry talk page, Kelly Liken may or may not be "as notable", but the article is well-sourced, so I didn't bother with it. In addition, being a finalist on a reality TV show does not warrant an article, especially if it was a one-time occasion (WP:ONEEVENT). Most of your articles also fail the basic criteria for WP:BIO.
If you can improve the quality of the Tiffany Derry article by providing more sources (that are reliable, mind you), while, again, clearly providing notability besides Top Chef, it can probably stay. This applies to the other articles I have already nominated as well. WANI (talk) 17:12, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Wani,

Thanks again for your support, it'll help me improve articles in the future. If the content of the articles I created (particularly Tiffany Derry) is deemed not notable, could we at least redirect them to the various Top Chef season articles? That way the topic will at least be covered on the Top Chef page.

As for the articles besides Tiffany Derry, I understand the lack of notability. If they are deleted or (preferably) redirected, I understand the philosophy behind that decision. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neddy1234 (talkcontribs) 15:09, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Just a friendly note from a veteran editor that since the show King of the Nerds doesn't give contestants' last names on the official site, we can't include alleged last names without reliable-source citations, which cannot include such self-published sources as blogs unless it is the blog of the subject him/herself. Injustice

Please stop your editing with Injustice: Gods Among Us. They are playable characters in this game. Thanks - User:TreCoolGuy

They may be alternate skins but they are voiced by different voice actors/actresses. So technically they are playable characters. User:TreCoolGuy

Super Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U

I added a paragraph about rumored characters for the new games which was one hundred percent true and you deleted it. Can you tell me why you did that??? -Harmonmj13

I wrote my reasons in my edit summary. Look up WP:CRYSTAL. You said it yourself. It's a rumor. We don't add unverifiable rumors/speculation to Wikipedia. Even Sal, the person who reported the leak about Shulk, Chrom, Palutena, etc., cannot completely verify his leak due to the nature of his source...so how can you say it's "100% true"? about sonson

SonSon (Japanese: ソンソン?) is an arcade video game by Capcom released in July 1984. It is loosely based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West.

Developer(s) Capcom Publisher(s) Capcom Designer(s) Yoshiki Okamoto Composer(s) Ayako Mori Platform(s) Arcade Famicom Release date(s) JP: July 1984 NA: 1984 Genre(s) Shoot 'em up

SonSon II is a platformer game developed by Capcom and originally released on the TurboGrafx/ PC Engine in 1989.

SonSon are the same character playable on MvsC2,

and you are idiot — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.233.29.51 (talk) 00:01, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Wow, rude. The SonSon in the original arcade game is a guy, and the SonSon in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a girl. I own a copy of the Marvel vs. Capcom: Original Complete Works, and it states in the character glossary (p. 181) "SonSon III is a monkey girl and the granddaughter of the original SonSon, the Monkey King." Her debut is listed as Marvel vs. Capcom 2, because she is an original character. I'm not the one who needs to do their research, you do. Wani (talk) 00:11, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Ok is a girl, But she come from the franchise of SonSon not original 100% new concept/idea for CvsM2, you debate over the last column (franchise)come from. if you go on page SonSon read < Ports and related releases> there talk about she. for example: Zangief come from franchise of street fighter BUT not appera in street fighter,, so this are right.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.250.96.87 (talk) 10:22, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Sure, she was inspired by the original SonSon character and the SonSon franchise as a whole, but she debuted in Marvel vs. Capcom 2. She has never appeared in the actual SonSon franchise and, just like Ruby Heart and Amingo, was specifically designed for MvC2, which qualifies her as an original character. This is also what's listed in the Complete Works character glossary, and I'd opt for that over any original research.
I also don't understand the point you're trying to make about Zangief...he comes from the Street Fighter franchise, but doesn't appear in Street Fighter? Like, are you referring to the first game in the series or something? Wani (talk) 18:59, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Uploading a GIF

I am currently working on the article for the video game series Marvel vs. Capcom, and I want to upload an image for its gameplay section. I was searching Google for a decent screenshot, until I found a pretty good GIF demonstrating some gameplay concepts explained in the section (namely air combos and red health). Here is the image. I've never uploaded a GIF before here; it's the same as uploading any regular screenshot, right? Will I run into any potential copyright issues? Is the size appropriate? And just for your opinion, do you think uploading a GIF would help the reader understand some of the gameplay concepts better than a simple screenshot, or would it not matter that much? Thanks for your help! Wani (talk) 02:36, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Purely from the technical stand point, uploading a GIF is no different than uploading a still frame, and size should not be a problem. It is the copyright (WP:NFC) issue that is problematic here. You'd have to make a really good case for why a GIF is better than a still frame to get around WP:NFCC#3: an animated gif is obviously several frames away from minimal use in comparison to a screenshot. The question is not why a gif would be better, but why (if at all) a gif is the only conceivable way to illustrate the aspect. I think I've seen a non-free gif animation only once on Wikipedia. It was deleted for a slightly different reason, however (Wikipedia:Files_for_discussion/2016_May_7#File:Updowntrick2.gif). – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 07:58, 26 January 2017 (UTC)
Alright then. Guess I'll just use a screenshot and save myself any potential trouble. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Wani (talk) 08:06, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Re:Scans

Sure thing! I'll try to get them to you in the next day or two. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 23:42, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay—I've been pretty swamped these last few days. I'm going to dedicate time to getting you those scans later today. JimmyBlackwing (talk) 09:30, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. Take as much time as you need. Wani (talk) 15:00, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
Here are the scans! I was able to find the material on Marvel Super Heroes in the Internet Archive here, along with an earlier review here. The X-Men reviews are here and here. Hope these help! JimmyBlackwing (talk) 18:15, 23 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks again! Wani (talk) 18:55, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

X-Men article

Hi Wani, here's a quick scan of the article you requested from PC Gamer. The Sept 1997 issue is a double issue so it's pretty fat and doesn't flatten down nicely for scanning. Please let me know if you need me to transcribe the third column of any other parts. Good luck. -Thibbs (talk) 03:22, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

Thank you so much! Yeah, if it's not too much trouble, could you transcribe that last bit for me? Wani (talk) 05:02, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
Here's a new one taken from a camera (it's just the third column). -Thibbs (talk) 03:44, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
Thanks again! Wani (talk) 04:23, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

Update to scripts by AlexTheWhovian/Alex 21

Information icon Hello! This is a generic message created and copied to all editors using scripts that I have created. As I have recently changed my username from "User:AlexTheWhovian" to "User:Alex 21", any scripts that I have created that are listed at your common.js page may, at the moment, no longer be working. To fix this, simply update all occurrences of "User:AlexTheWhovian" to "User:Alex 21"; see here for an example. All the best! -- /Alex/21 11:07, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

Question

I'm trying to upload a new version of "File:Smash Bros Ultimate banner.png". I've downscaled it, but for some reason, it's still displaying the old version of the image. I'm curious about what I'm doing wrong here. Thanks! Wani (talk) 00:30, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Try WP:BYPASSing your cache. It appears correctly for me. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:32, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
Oh, it worked. Thank you! Wani (talk) 21:32, 20 January 2020 (UTC)
