Template:Theatricalia name (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Theatricalia is an online database of Theatre performances that is currently in beta. It has little to no editorial oversight and can in no way be considered a reliable source. Among other issues of verifiability within articles, the presence of this template could encourage the creation of articles on non-notable subjects. This is currently seen with the IMDB template, which is often used as a sole reference in many articles. Steamroller Assault (talk) 05:31, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. This is a completely misguided nomination, apparelty adressing only Theatricalia's relaibility as a reliable source as a reference. The template is not intended - nor used - for such purposes, but instead is intended to sit in external links sections, for which Theatricalia is emminently suitalbe, containing useful lists of stage productions, which would be of interest to our readers, but not suitable for inclusion on Wikipedia in full. Consider, for example, its current use on David Tennant, linking to a list of his stage performances on Theatricalia. The claim about Theatricalia's editorial oversight is also bogus. The template shoud only be used in articles about people (actors, directors & playwrights) who are otherwise already notable; and where a suitable page is already populated on Theatricalia. I will add to the template's documentation acordingly. Procedures already exist for dealing with aticles about non-notable subjects, we shouldn't throw this baby out with that bath-water. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 10:52, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
While an accurate database of theatrical performances would be great, Theatricalia does not yet measure up. It is a website that is not fully launched (i.e. it is beta testing). I appreciate that your documentation may soon address that the template should only be used for instances where a suitable page exists on Theatricalia. In reality, however, there is no way to judge what a suitable page is on a website that has crowd-based submissions with no fact-checking. IMDB checks credits with producers, and Wikipedia makes use of WP:V. Neither goes on at the beta version of Theatricalia. As an external link, it cannot be counted on to be accurate or reliable and thus fails WP:EL. Steamroller Assault (talk) 11:26, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's no longer in beta. If you have any evidence of the alleged inaccuracy, please provide it. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 11:32, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Andy, I'm sure you're aware that WP:EL places the burden on those adding links, and at this time it is not even established that we should be linking to Theatricalia in the first place (never mind having a template which eases its addition). IMDB-style sites should be added cautiously and only after there are significant calls for such; that Theatricalia does not even have an article here yet suggests that it is not a notable enough site at this time for us to consider it important enough to add to articles, especially if the primary recipients of said links are BLPs. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) - talk 09:16, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
An allegation has been made; I'm asking for it to be substantiated. Andy Mabbett (User:Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 09:44, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The burden is not on Steamroller Assault to prove that the site is inaccurate: it is on those advocating for it to prove that it isn't (amongst other things, including that its content is accessible and uniquely useful beyond that which could be added here directly). Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) - talk 13:24, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion so a clearer consensus may be reached.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Plastikspork (talk) 19:01, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • delete, the use appears to be quite limited. A discussion should be started at WT:EL, and if there is acceptance to wide spread use of this site as an EL, then we can template it. Creating a template first is a bit of the cart before the horse imo. Frietjes (talk) 22:07, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Non-free use rationale audio sample (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Propose merging Template:Non-free audio rationale with Template:Non-free use rationale audio sample.
Merge is suggested as the latter template has greater compatibility with album/single article infobox structures, and thusly the appropriate rationales would in future be easier to generate, evaluate Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:38, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Redundant to {{Non-free use rationale video cover}} Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:30, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - for non-free image use templates there are 2 styles - those which are substituted and those which aren't. I prefer the substituted style, because after substituting the wording can be adjusted without having to understand the intricacies of a complex template. PhilKnight (talk) 13:40, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep This template was already at TfD a couple of months ago under its old name {{DVD rationale}}. But also, it can handle the creation of multiple fair use rationales for multiple articles more easily as well as automatically apply the correct licensing template. Something that {{Non-free use rationale video cover}} does not do. In fact, I've personally used this template since redesigning it to create FURs for both DVD and Blu-ray covers. —Farix (t | c) 00:29, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Uw-controversial2 (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

This is the only uw-controversial* template. WikiProject User warnings seems to suggest {{uw-disruptive2}} for this purpose. Two uses, from a few years ago. — This, that, and the other (talk) 02:08, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • I created the template, and did so in response to a request. It was requested because the wording of {{uw-disruptive2}} (a) seemed too harsh - ("please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be disruptive"; compare uw-controversial's "Your edits may appear to some to be vandalism and disruptive") and (b) did not cover the case where edits may be perfectly valid (i.e., not disruptive at all) but on a subject where consensus before editing is imperative due to past edit-warring. Someone, for instance, might (not knowing the page's history) start changing "Gdansk" to "Danzig" in the text of a page, or changing "China" to "Mainland China". These are not cases of deliberate disruption, but rather controversial pages which need discussing on the article's talk page - uw-controversial2 assumes good faith; uw-disruptive2 does not. Clearly, the two templates are useful in different circumstances and are not interchangeable. BTW, I'd like to know how you know there have only ever been a couple of uses of this - I can recall using it on at least half a dozen occasions, one of them within the last few months. It could well be that the users thus warned have simply removed it from their talk pages. Grutness...wha? 02:22, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
