...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 23:11, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@WilliamJE: No problem, I thought the article had enough pages linking to it and could get more in the future. Polk defeated Demetrice King and fought some other notable boxers, but I guess it doesn't qualify for notability?--Cassius Fury (talk) 23:52, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Marina Defauw moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Marina Defauw, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 21:11, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

For a living person we have a high standard of referencing. Every substantive fact you assert, especially one that is susceptible to potential challenge, requires a citation with a reference that is about them, and is independent of them, in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS, and is significant coverage. Please also see WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources and WP:SELFPUB which has clear limitations on self published sources. Providing sufficient references, ideally one per fact cited, that meet these tough criteria is likely to make this draft a clear acceptance (0.9 probability). Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the person is not suitable for inclusion, certainly today. FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 21:12, 17 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
User:Timtrent thank you for your help. Yh, I got it, including the General Notability. All is referenced by (many) reliable sources (none self-published), and there are many sources from Belgian newspapers. Only reason user said article isn't okay might by suspicion it's self-promotion or something (being living person etc.). This is not the case since I was creating the article as part of a project about the surname. I think the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline, so I'm gonna propose it.

Translations[edit]

Hi, please make sure to follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia#Translating from other language Wikimedia projects. Also note that you may not post machine translations (I'm not saying that what you posted was a machine translation, just informing you). Finally, please be careful with your sourcing; e.g. on Wein van Cotthem, the link in the sixth source leads to the wrong book on Google books. Fram (talk) 12:18, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fram. Those articles are at first translated with a machine because it spares much, much time. But then of course I check everything from A to Z. Ok, I'll check out Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia#Translating from other language Wikimedia projects. As for Wein van Cotthem, you are right, it's incorrect link, I'll fix it now. Squared.Circle.Boxing, as specified in his article, boxer won the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) Central Area heavyweight title, part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Boxing/Title Assessment, thus WP:NBOX is satisfied.--Cassius Fury (talk) 20:52, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The "British Boxing Board of Control" refers to the British title, not the regional ones. The Central Area title is about as insignificant of a title as one can get. I'll bring this up at WP:BOXING as NBOX evidently needs clarification. – 2.O.Boxing 20:57, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Clarifying that wouldn't be a bad idea, although tbh I didn't even check WP:NBOX as I thought the boxer deserved an article after seeing Stewart Lithgo has one.--Cassius Fury (talk) 21:12, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
then again, Lithgo is also a former Commonwealth cruiserweight champion...--Cassius Fury (talk) 21:24, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
NBOX is usually only used for an argument in a deletion discussion where it's likely, but not immediately evident, that a boxer is notable enough for an article. It can be a good starting point for guidance on whether a subject is notable enough, as those who win one of the titles listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Boxing/Title Assessment usually receive enough coverage to satisfy WP:GNG, but it's always best to aim for GNG straight off the bat as there's then almost no doubt the article will avoid deletion (that's not always 100% though, but almost).
As for Lithgo, it does indeed appear he won the Commonwealth title, thereby satisfying NBOX, and presumably GNG (although I haven't personally checked the references in that article so it could always be a similar situation to Mintus). Your other article seems to be up to scratch though 👍. Hope this helps for future reference. – 2.O.Boxing 21:40, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks!👍:D--Cassius Fury (talk) 21:48, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Lokeren Roomstraat huis.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Lokeren Roomstraat huis.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Replaceable fair use File:Sculpture in Mechelen town hall by Van Lokeren- Van Blankene.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Sculpture in Mechelen town hall by Van Lokeren- Van Blankene.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 16:51, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A free alternative is highly unlikely to ever be produced. As a frontal picture of a bas-relief, it might even be discussed whether the copyright belongs only to the 14th century artist. Still, I uploaded it at Wikipedia to be safe rather than sorry. But then, the photographer himself has already shared this picture at an online Encyclopedia, hence it is already available online regardless. The purpose here is obviously educational, as is at Inventaris Vlanderen.--Cassius Fury (talk) 17:47, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Licensing and Non-free content[edit]

I am responding here in a single section rather than posting replies above at the sections for the individual articles to make conversation a little easier. Wikipedia usses freely licensed content with some very narrow exceptions. Not all Creative Commons licenses are accepted. Wikipedia allows commercial reuse, as well as modifications to create derivative content. Because of that, any license that restricts commercial use or modifications is not accepted. For some of your files, the license is cc-by-nc-sa-2.0 which means no commercial use. That is not an acceptable license for Wikipedia. That is why it cannot be uploaded to Commons, and why there is no selection for that license on the English Wikipedia when uploading an image. Wikipedia:Free licenses provides a list of the acceptable licenses.

The use of non-free content must meet all of the non-free content criteria. For the image of the bas-relief, the art work itself is no longer copyrighted but the photo of the art work is. I understand your point that a straight frontal shot is not very creative but even so, these are still usually considered to be creative enough to be copyrighted based on choice of framing, lighting etc. If you want to dispute that, you can add the template {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|Your reason that a free replacement can not be found or created}} to the file page to object. As for the other images, use in an image gallery is almost never allowed. See W:NFG. The reason is that images just by themselves do not meet WP:NFCC#8 for contextual significance.

Licensing and use of non-free content on Wikipedia can be very confusing. Media Copyright Questions is a good place to get help or answers to questions about this. -- Whpq (talk) 20:08, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the exhaustive reply. Do you think File:Sculpture in Mechelen town hall by Van Lokeren- Van Blankene.jpg could be kept if I cut the image so as it contains solely the bas relief and, if necessary, turn it into a black and white picture?--Cassius Fury (talk) 20:54, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That would be a derivative of value copyrighted image and could not be freely licensed. Whpq (talk) 21:09, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yet the only thing relevant there is the indoor-kept bas relief, whose creator is the 14th-century artist. Trimming aside: there isn't any study or creativity in this picture (just like a painting's, and differently from, e.g., that of outdoor sculpture in a public place). But I guess there is no way of keeping it since otherwise you'd let me know. It's too bad because, again, a free alternative won't be produced and the pic is important to understand the artist.--Cassius Fury (talk) 23:51, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That just my opinion. You might want to get the opinion of other editors familiar with licensing and copyright by posting at WP:MCQ. -- Whpq (talk) 16:15, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thank you.--Cassius Fury (talk) 17:53, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:51, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable non-free use File:Petrus Vertenten.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Petrus Vertenten.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.

Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
