Congratulations, MyCatIsAChonk! The list you nominated, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (season 2), has been promoted to featured status, recognizing it as one of the best lists on Wikipedia. The nomination discussion has been archived.
This is a rare accomplishment and you should be proud. If you would like, you may nominate it to appear on the Main page as Today's featured list. Keep up the great work! Cheers, Giants2008 (talk) via FACBot (talk) 00:25, 25 September 2023 (UTC)

Congratulations! Thank you for finding the explanation you gave for Rossini, - you may consider to bring it up also also for Bizet, unless you want to be bold and go further and discuss the matter on WP:COMPOSERS in general. I can't, remembering the last time I tried - after Boulez died. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:28, 3 October 2023 (UTC)

Eek, I'm hesitant to propose this again after the backlash at Rossini... I fully understand the point Nikki is making and appreciate the thorough explanations and interpretations of the MoS, yet I find myself disagreeing with the fundamental guidelines upon which this encyclopedia is based. I hope the discussion at "Redirection to another article in an infobox" helps. Once Rossini works itself out, I may open a discussion on the topic of infoboxes at WP:COMPOSERS, but I don't know how I'd approach it. Just a new subheader? That would attract no traffic, and nothing can be done from a simple discussion. An RfC? That seems a bit extreme for changing a small policy, but may be necessary after the intense debate that's taken place since the project's inception. Your thoughts? Ping for @Gerda Arendt MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 00:22, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
I understand. The arbs asked 10 years ago (#7, and don't miss #6), and I thought Mozart served the purpose. Obviously not. Have you seen Cosima Wagner? You better stay out of all that and do Stravinsky ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:09, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
Only now did I look at the linking talk. "For those who may be unaware, WikiProject Composers has an age-old policy that disallows infoboxes in composer biographies, but this has been changed in recent years." Sorry, that's wrong ;) - it's not a policy, it's a 2010 guideline, and some question if project guidelines have any binding "force". It has never been changed, just ignored. By the community. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:23, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
I did not know this, thank you for letting me know! I'll fix it pronto MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 11:05, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

Comments on FA nomination

Hello MyCatIsAChonk, I wanted to let you know that I nominated the article Communication for featured article status, see Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Communication/archive1. So far, there has not been much response from reviewers. I was wondering whether you are inclined to have a look at it due to your interest in media. If you have the time, I would appreciate your comments. Phlsph7 (talk) 08:01, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

Certainly! I've been quite impressed by your revisions of vital articles. I'll review soon, probably tomorrow or the day after. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 11:09, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Appalachian Spring

On 25 October 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Appalachian Spring, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the early drafts of Appalachian Spring contained a Native American girl to act as an invisible theatrical device, but it was cut in the final production? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Appalachian Spring. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Appalachian Spring), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

October songs
my story today

More congratulations! - I am not so happy about the DYK about Appalachian Spring, that doesn't even say it's a ballet (which we really can't expect readers to know already), and mentions "Indian girl", - would we still say so in 2023? - Good luck with the FAC! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:59, 17 October 2023 (UTC)

I hadn't considered that, and it's been weeks since I nominated it so I haven't given it much attention... I'll post a message expressing concerns, as I do agree that there's an issue with "Indian girl" and even just the notability of the fact. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 20:11, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! - You may have seen that I talked to the user who promoted first, but that name was new to me, and they possibly don't look often. I think normally the reviewer should notice, but Corachow comes from ballet, and it's a given that it's a ballet. I try to say in my hooks something specific to the subject, therefore would not point at something that did not make it in the end, but styles differ, and I accept that as well. My story today is derived from a real DYK that landed on the subject's birthday, mentioned three roles I saw him in, and even had some quirkyness ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:47, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice! After a year I'm still learning, and all help is much appreciated MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 21:50, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
It's no good advice because it brings you in conflict with the DYK team: they seem to prefer April fool's approach all year round. I am still sad that we couldn't say anything better about Berit Lindholm, and that's just one of several where I thought better no DYK than that. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:24, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Well, here's to hoping that more like Robert Hale can come to fruition MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 22:41, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. - Firebird, you gave me credit I don't deserve, I didn't make it to that peer review, and hope nobody has seen it, and you quietly erase it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:45, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
Whoops, I must've been thinking of the Appalachian Spring FAC... thanks for letting me know! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 18:43, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
fine fix, fine response to my initial comments! - today, it's a place that inspired me, musings if you have time. My corner for memory and music has today a juxtaposition of what our local church choirs offer. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:10, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

Thanks again for the review, I'm quite excited to finally get a composition to FA MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 19:02, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
A Romanian woman composer is today's topic. - I'll resume the review of your next composition after this round. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:15, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
I thought of Brian Bouldton today, and his ways to compromise. - I'm on vacation again, more pics to come, but too tired after church (pictured on my talk), hiking and paella. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:56, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
There is certainly no need for a reason, we all have lives outside this website, and it seems like you're having a lovely one. I admire the many concerts you attend, and remember WP:THEREISNODEADLINE! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 22:55, 29 October 2023 (UTC)

my story today
Congratulations! - Perfect timing - I just wanted to bring November thanks anyway, having updated pics to 24 Oct. I proudly remember having sung in an oratorio premiere seven years ago OTD. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:36, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

Thank you! More, if you like: today I have three items on the Main page, almost too much of a good thing! Bach's amazing cantata with the unusual scale, first performed 300 years ago OTD, the nun for the prostitutes, and Schumann's wedding gift for Clara. Also first day of vacation pics uploaded. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:30, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Today is St. Martin's Day, which stands for sharing. Sharing one more day of vacation ;) - The tenor on the Main page is up for GA, in case you feel like more reviewing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:12, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Saw your concert calendar and I'm intrigued by the Le Grand Macabre production- really do wish I could see it, if only I lived in Germany! What were your thoughts? Staging Ligeti is always a stunning feat, and the dynamism of his music brings out such different sounds from orchestra to orchestra. And, saw that you saw Krzysztof Urbański conduct- what were your thoughts on his style? I saw him do Rite of Spring and Krzesany with the National Symphony a while back, and he certainly had a unique character. It depends on what you want; if mentioning the two alternative stagings is important, then we can do it in 1001 characters, I think (the limit is 1025):
{{{2}}}

The Firebird is a ballet and orchestral concert work by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. It was written for the 1910 Paris season of Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes company; the original choreography was by Michel Fokine, who collaborated with Alexandre Benois and others on a scenario based on the Russian fairy tales of the magical Firebird and the blessing and curse it possesses for its owner. Set in the evil immortal Koschei's castle, the ballet follows Prince Ivan, who battles Koschei with the help of the Firebird. It was an immediate success, catapulting Stravinsky to international fame and leading to future Diaghilev-Stravinsky collaborations like Petrushka (1911) and The Rite of Spring (1913). One stage adaptation, by Maurice Béjart, was set during a political revolution; John Neumeier's production featured Koschei as a robot. Stravinsky's 1919 concert suite remains the most popular today. A film version with the original choreography was released in 1959. (Full article...)

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:52, 3 January 2024 (UTC)

The 2023 picture is from the Abel Fest in Köthen, celebrating the tercentenary of Carl Friedrich Abel, a viol virtuoso, composer and concert organiser in London (together with Bach's youngest son), born on 22 December 1723 in Köthen, where the new catalogue of his works was introduced, - my story today. - Thank you for the GA review, - I'm busy this weekend but should be back to it next week. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:54, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

The review: I'm a bit sorry that I first turned to the other that was easier. I wanted to return to the singer today, right after the other passed, but then had to expand Chris Karrer, and the weather was too nice. Firebird day tomorrow! I'll see how far I get ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:29, 9 January 2024 (UTC)

Thank you today for The Firebird, introduced: "Back for another ballet (and popular orchestral work)! A personal favorite and choreographic masterpiece, this work was Stravinsky's breakthrough in the international music scene, setting the stage for Petrushka and The Rite of Spring."! - Enjoy your first TFA day! It was the first ballet I saw on stage, and still see the image of the wild and tender principal dancer in a bright-red tutu. I saw it with my mother whose birthday was yesterday. Looking forward to the composer being improved, - his article, I mean ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:11, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

I have a DYK on the Main page, but my story would be different, about Figaro, - this Figaro. - Travelling, - the recordings of Gould will be next. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:18, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

On the Main page: the person who made the pictured festival possible - I didn't forget Gould, but for most oft the day I expanded Tamara Milashkina. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:08, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Request for FA review for Nicoll Highway collapse

Hello and thanks for helping in some of my past FAC reviews for the various MRT stations. Now I'm putting up Nicoll Highway collapse for FAC, and I wonder if you can help take a look through as well? Here's the nomination, thanks.--ZKang123 (talk) 01:57, 8 February 2024 (UTC)

August songs
my story today

Congratulations! Best wishes for its further upgrade, - I plan to review, but am behind in many respects including reviews of "my" articles. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:18, 6 August 2023 (UTC)

Thank you, and take your time- considering the average FAC time, it'll be there for a while ;) MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 10:49, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
My story today - a first - isn't about an article by me, but one I reviewed for DYK, see here. I like all: topic, "hook", connected article (a GA on its way towards FA - so I tell everybody), image and the music "in the background". I just returned from a weekend of weddings, so also like the spirit ;) - Pics to come, I promise one cake, the other was too large! Good music, and better even in the concert ending the second day, - Goldberg Variations theme for an encore, after Dohnányi Serenade. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:31, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
@CurryTime7-24's work on it since creation is astounding, very excited for the GAN/FAC. A Four Award in the making! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 20:35, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
I just looked over Stravinsky again, curious where his first wife would be pictured, - instead I found even the second gone. All these men in his life, but not the two women who shared it the most? - I changed all fixed image sizes. If other sizes are wanted please use different upright factors. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:22, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt, the concern was over the licensing of Vera's photo during the FAC. I couldn't find reliable sources for the two photos of her that we have, and hence couldn't apply proper licensing tags. I'll look over it again soon- thanks for bringing this up. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 21:29, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
Again not by me: today's story - with the triumph of music over military - is uplifting! - No cake yet, but a butterfly and open-air opera. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:08, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
More pics uploaded, two wedding cakes - I couldn't resist. Today's story is about the Inkpot Madonna who returned to "her place" 9 years ago, and also has aspects of early learning, remember? - I marked your latest PR with pleasure! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:49, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
Today is the anniversary of the premiere of Götterdämmerung. Berit Lindholm sang its final scene in concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London, only four years after her stage debut in a Mozart opera in Stockholm. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:32, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
Today is Debussy's birthday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:18, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

Congratulations to your latest featured list! - What I came for is: would you have time for another GA review, and soon. Berit Lindholm, and the funeral is on 30 August. Just asking, as you served so well for Gabriele Schnaut. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:44, 24 August 2023 (UTC)

Happy to do so! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 18:56, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
Wow, you were so fast! I'll add one more source, for the Deutsche Oper am Rhein section (which has no header yet, because it was too short so far, end of RSO), and then give it a break, to turn to Appalachian Spring ;) - I'll ping you when the section is also done. - Musicweb-international is a site composers wait to have a review appear. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:44, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
I added what I wanted, and a bit more, - your turn ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:31, 24 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you so much for the GA review, - just what I needed! - Today is Gwendolyn Killebrew's birthday, - pictured: a spider and sweet food, - I picked Killebrew a while ago, because of her birthday, so smiled when I added her to Lindholm's article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:44, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt, of course! By the way, I remember seeing on Wugapodes' talk page that you said your brother played in Der Ring in Minden? This fascinates me- did he do all five, and what instrument does he play? MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 20:57, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
He and his colleague played the first note, - does it tell you enough? - It's three parts and a pre-evening, btw. Or did you mean the five years? The answer would be yes. My first time in Minden was Tristan, 2012, discovering Andreas Schager who seems now the Wagner tenor wherever you look, Parsifal and Siegfried in Bayreuth this year. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:20, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
Now I see, that's very cool- thanks for clarifying! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 21:21, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
Parsifal 10 September --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:02, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
This too shall pass. - Ten years ago on 28 August, I heard a symphony, with a heavy heart because of the pending decision in WP:ARBINFOBOX, and not worried about my future here but Andy's. - It passed, and I could write the DYK about calling to dance, not battle, and Andy could write the DYK mentioning about peace and reconciliation, - look. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:29, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
Congratulations to John Oliver for FA! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:14, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
Many thanks! I have another FAC open now, then I hope to send Appalachian Spring over! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 00:27, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
Just a quick note that Robert Hale is now on the Main page, - only one to do before returning to Appalachian Spring! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:38, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt, thanks a ton! Were you planning on nominating Hale for GA? It looks like his article is in great condition right now, with some small prose fixes. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 22:41, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
I wasn't - compare the talk of Storye book - but did it, - thank you for the encouragement! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:44, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2024 February newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Appalachian Spring TFA

Hi MCIAC. I was thinking of running Appalachian Spring at TFA in October, but now that strikes me as a bad decision; it's got "Spring" right there in the title, so it may look odd to readers appearing at Halloween. I've got room on the April schedule on the 3rd; does that work for you? - Dank (push to talk) 00:04, 11 February 2024 (UTC)

WikiCup 2024 March newsletter

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. February music

story · music · places

Today I am happy about a singer on the Main page (at least for the first hours) - thank you for noticing! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:43, 7 February 2024 (UTC)

Thanks to Seiji Ozawa. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:03, 12 February 2024 (UTC)

The image, taken on a cemetery last year after the funeral of a distant but dear family member, commemorates today, with thanks for their achievements, four subjects mentioned on the Main page and Vami_IV, a friend here. Listen to music by Tchaikovsky (an article where one of the four is pictured), sung by today's subject (whose performance on stage I enjoyed two days ago). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:32, 20 February 2024 (UTC)

Listen to music from Ukraine if you like, - I heard it in 2022, and the November concert (at a different church) raised a truckload of winter clothes. My story today is also from my life: I heard the singer in 3 of the 4 mentioned musical items. I sang in yesterday's. - Rinaldo (opera) premiered OTD, DYK? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:14, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

Today's story celebrates a woman's birthday. She sat right in front of me when I took the picture at a lovely concert, celebrating her son's 60th. I thought she was 90 today, - no, 91 already. You can listen, starting at the piece he dedicated to her, Op. 1. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:45, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Hey! Thanks so much for your support on Jamie Kalven. Happy to report that it will be TFA on March 16. Will you be around that day? If so, would you mind placing it on your watchlist? FAC Feedback

Hello MyCatIsAChonk. Hope all is well. It's been a while since I've seen your John Oliver-related work at FLC, and thanks for the reviews you've done in the past. I've currently put up a nomination at FAC, and was wondering if you have time and interest to provide feedback. Not to worry if thing are busy IRL. Pseud 14 (talk) 18:41, 1 March 2024 (UTC)

I'd be happy to, always glad to help get more articles to FA! Hi MyCatIsAChonk. Me again. Sorry for the random message. Your comments in my last FAC were very helpful and helped improved it immensely. Thought I'd ask and was wondering if you would have some time and interest in providing some feedback on another music-related FAC I have nominated. Pseud 14 (talk) 21:04, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Wonderful! I'd love to help- I admire your work on getting more musicians to FA, I just rarely check WP:FAC so it's helpful to get notifications when a new one is there. I'll try to take a look this weekend! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 22:46, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks so much for the kind words. Take as much time as you need. And I really do appreciate your feedback and expertise. Pseud 14 (talk) 23:49, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
Hello MyCatIsAChonk, apologies for this message but I was wondering whether you still wanted to leave comments. Only asking since you mentioned that it would be ok to remind you just in case :) and hope I’m not bugging you in anyway as I know you've been helping a lot of editors with your feedback. If things are rather busy IRL that is completely fine. Cheers! Pseud 14 (talk) 17:52, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
Yes, I do hope to get to it soon, but I have been busy IRL... I apologize for the delay, and I'll try to get to it before any moderators get concerned about time MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 18:03, 21 April 2024 (UTC)
No need to apologize. And I completely understand. Appreciate it as ever. Hope things are well on your end. Pseud 14 (talk) 18:09, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi, MyCat! It has been a while since I last talked with you. As you are one of the reviewers who helped promote my first FLC, I figured you are a person I should approach about this. I have opened another SB19-related FLC, and I was wondering if you could have a look at it and leave some comments. No pressure though! Let me know if that's all okay for you. A few pics from back home. Rubbing my eyes because of Copland, please watch. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:34, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for notifying me of this- will keep an eye on it MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 20:48, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you today for Appalachian Spring, introduced: "Martha Graham's ballet technique was one of the first American styles of dance, and it was beautifully executed in Appalachian Spring, a ballet commissioned for Graham and the composer Aaron Copland. Graham's unique choreography and the suites created from Copland's serene score remain essential in the American repertoire."! - I made it my story today ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:56, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
ps: forgot to say that I think the little "key flowers" match "Simple Gifts" well ;) - also: I have a GAN open, in case you have time, BWV 104, first given next Sunday in 1724. Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:00, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you! Very happy to see it on your story- I'll look at the GAN soon if I can, thanks for letting me know! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 11:59, 6 April 2024 (UTC) MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 11:59, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
As it happens, Hildegard's Physica is on the Main page today, and Marian Anderson as my top story (by NBC, 1939), and below (on my talk) three people with raised arms, - and the place is the cherry blossom in Frauenstein --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:47, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
plum tree blossom for Kalevi Kiviniemi in the snow - see my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:54, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
My story today is about a piece composed for the Second Sunday after Easter 300 years ago which you know well ;) - thank you for the timely review! I saw many sheep today!! (pics to follow - too tired, I just returned from a (long) opera about the same age, with soprano Pretty Yende) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:17, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
relief: the last of six RD articles in one week is now on the Main page - yesterday a great recital with many anti-war songs by Jewish composers whose music was banned by the Nazis. - Did you see (on my talk) that my first post in this thread was logged as canvassing. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:32, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
Wow, I'm not entirely clear on the history of this, but it seems like a comical accusation given you were directly involved in the Appalachian Spring FAC and we've discussed the articles before. Thanks for letting me know, I wasn't aware of that discussion and would hope to be involved with it if another accusation arises in the future. I can't make you aware of anything because that would be regarded the same kind of "canvassing", right, ScottishFinnishRadish? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:18, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
The RD articles were followed by two birthdays in a row, and I prefer those (see my talk). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:23, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
today a sad task - memory of Andrew Davis - turned into entertainment (yt at the bottom of his article, actually both) -- the latest pictures capture extreme weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:55, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
What a wonderful Grainger recording- he's a favorite composer of mine (naturally since I'm a wind player) and seeing such joyous recordings of his works are truly wonderful MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 22:27, 23 April 2024 (UTC)
I found it searching for what was played when the image was taken! Surprise! Percy Grainger was also the first composer for whom Brianboulton installed an infobox, into his featured article, as a way to compromise, DYK? I'm patiently waiting for that initial movement to be followed more and not opposed. I also question if we have to slavishly keep it precisely as it was added then. (cc ScottishFinnishRadish) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:18, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
Returning from an interesting concert, I nominated Wo gehest du hin? BWV 166 for GA, - first performed 300 years ago (not by date but occasion). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:32, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
I have again a rather sad story on the Main page, - yesterday's double bass concert story was more fun. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:09, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
today you can look at the last three stories or "music" on my talk: the same topics, Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Samuel Kummer and (pictured) one row of 8 double basses and another of 5 bassists ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:51, 30 April 2024 (UTC)

Hey! Wanna review the article for Terror Train?MagicatthemovieS (talk) 03:48, 5 May 2024 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS

Happy to! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 11:40, 5 May 2024 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your guidance! I was wondering if you would like to nominate the article for DYK because I'm behind on that and so I cannot nominate new ones at this time?MagicatthemovieS (talk) 15:35, 7 May 2024 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS
Absolutely- I have tons of QPQs racked up, so I can use one for it. I'll nominate it once I'm back home this afternoon! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 15:57, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Here it is: Template:Did you know nominations/Terror Train. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 17:22, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Thanks so much! You could also add a fact about the rumor Jamie Lee Curtis is intersex with a picture of her next to it. That rumor never went away and I think Wikipedia should try to get on that.MagicatthemovieS (talk) 19:01, 7 May 2024 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS
I don't know that DYK coords would be ok with putting rumors on the main page, as interesting as it is, though I appreciate the idea! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 19:57, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
I mean a DYK where we pointed out that the rumor was false but I understand what you are saying.MagicatthemovieS (talk) 20:06, 7 May 2024 (UTC)MagicatthemovieS

Liszt GA review

Hi, thanks again for stepping in on the Liszt GA review, I really appreciate it. I have created a DYK nomination; I decided to go for the Lisztomania angle, predictable but hopefully eye-catching. Ligaturama (talk) 07:41, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

May music

Thank you today for Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption, "about a church meant to criticize Televangelists and to draw attention to how easy it is to start a church in the US. Since I think most editors will need some context—basically, a church is a physical (or digital) place consisting of organised events containing prayer that provides a cohesive and often creative expression of beliefs, community, stories or morals." - There is a discussion on Peter Grimes, 3 options. I hope that is neutral enough. Some pics around the place of the concert with the basses in April ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:43, 3 May 2024 (UTC)

Thank you! I realized today that the scope of the articles I've helped get to FA consist of Stravinsky and some ballets, and then a very specific British American TV host and his weird show... what a unique website this is! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 10:52, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
Agree ;) - I combine Kafka with some Bach cantatas and Reger choral works - Kafka says it all. - The Grimes discussion seems to have reached a compromise, but did it have to be conducted as it was? - well, probably Kafka again. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:32, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
It is intriguing to see the very personal discussions people get into over extremely specific details that the average reader would not even consider. But, that's the nature of anything collaborative, and you'd rather have thoroughness than carelessness MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 11:34, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
Exactly because I like thoroughness I'd go for Zürich, which, as was said for Zurich, nobody would misunderstand. The change by a brave editor could just have been accepted. Instead - as you will have seen - that editor was reverted a few times, and accused of a "little mind" and "bullying", and I put to shame for not bothering to read all these superfluous words. No, I'm rather proud of being able to ignore ignore ignore (but sometimes I doubt that it is the right approach). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:50, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
On the bicentenary of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, I remember our recent uplifting choral concert in pictures, on my user page and in my concerts (leading to the two at the church's article). The closest was in the paper. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:45, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Today is the Feast of the Ascension for which Bach composed his oratorio, - perhaps watch a bit how the closing movement was performed in Bach's church. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:58, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
Magdalena Hinterdobler is on the Main page today, together with an opera that reviewers deemed not interesting and too obscure for our general readers. The soprano thought differently, - listen and see. - Also on the Main page: a TFA by sadly missed Vami_IV. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:30, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
I wonder what the standards for featuring productions seem to be. Obscure movies frequent DYK, yet "obscure" operas cannot? I understand that Zemlinsky might be unknown to the general reader, but enough context can still make something interesting. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 10:33, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
I agree - I tried Der Traumgörge with the baritone, which was the rejected (they wanted a third Figaro within a few weeks, and insisted on that title in English, and I said better no), and then with the soprano. More than 1k looked at the opera which I think is interesting already by the unusual title. - The soprano is up for deletion, - strange standards. - But: today's story has a pic of a woman holding her cat, a DYK of 5 years ago - and the recent pics show 2 orange tip butterflies --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:10, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
yesterday's story remembered an oratorio world premiere I was in, conducted by the composer --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:16, 16 May 2024 (UTC)
I liked seeing Erschallet, ihr Lieder on the Main page today, 310 years after the first performance! We sang it in 2000. Today's program was easier but also spirited. I found a nice video of "I will sing with the spirit", with nature photography, - enjoy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:34, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
As you saw, today's story mentions a concert I loved to hear and a piece I loved to sing in choir, 150 years old OTD. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:12, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
A personal favorite! I saw the requiem performed last year, and it's such an excellent experience… the offstage trumpets after the Dies Irae are such an amazing orchestration trick, and it's so effective! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 18:19, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
Stravinsky is back at PR, having been completely overhauled with hopes for an FAC soon. Would appreciate any comments if you find time! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 20:31, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the invitation. I'm always busy but composers get preferred treatment ;) - What do you think about Haydn (talk)? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:39, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
Many thanks- hope to see you there MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 21:03, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
When Haydn was born Austria was a different thing ;) - I saw Schubert, but one after the other. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:39, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
You added to the Schubert discussion, but did you look at the article? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:49, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
Could you also look at the Vivaldi discussion, about how to mention his works in the ibox? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:16, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
I'm not sure I have much to contribute to Vivaldi- an RfC on having links within IBs is necessary soon, but the lack of interest in an RfC both at the mos talk page and at the village pump make it seem futile at this point. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 12:36, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
Perhaps we see things differently but my understanding of the general MoS discussion of "list of works" in infoboxes doesn't discredit them, no? If so, it could be simply returned, but not by me ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:40, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
... and where did it go - without reasoning - for Schumann? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:46, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
I agree that the MoS discussion yielded good results for our argument, and I do believe that those links are great for infoboxes (especially for artists), but the few dissents make any consensus there difficult. I'll open a more formal RfC soon. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 19:08, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
29 May 1913: The Rite of Spring - today's story, actually something I saw at that place in a revival. - Do you remember the infobox discussion 100 years after the premiere, often mentioned in the arbcase? - Today a user who returned after several years said that nothing changed. Would you agree? I wouldn't ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:06, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
An interesting stance- I'm not quite sure what they're trying to get at. Perhaps trying to satirize the silliness of the debate? Still, the info box conversation has merit on both sides- I dont see it as an entirely pointless discussion. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 11:14, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
While I'm not sure, I believe it's a nice satire, lightning the mood. Made me smile. I have been on both sides of the discussion (s. Samuel Barber), understanding soon that an infobox makes access easier for some readers , and doesn't hurt others, so why not. I never understood why the matter became a personal feud which it was already when I met it. - Things were quiet by 2018 ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:10, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
last offer in May: photos of the river Rhine, and the adjacent Eltville rose garden, - high water and interesting weather --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:25, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

DYK for Terror Train

On 2 June 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Terror Train, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that when producer Daniel Grodnik proposed the idea for Terror Train to his wife, she thought that it sounded terrible? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Terror Train. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Terror Train), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

June music

story · music · places

Today's story is about the TFA, by sadly missed Vami_IV. In my support in 2018, I hoped to do justice to Schloss Köthen next - which I will begin today, finally, promised. Its Bachsaal was pictured to begin the year. For more related thoughts and music, look on my talk for 1 June. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:20, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

You nominated Stravinsky for FAC, I nominated Hinterdobler for GA - the soprano who was supposed to be deleted. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:22, 1 June 2024 (UTC)

I remember seeing her at DYK- I'll see if I can take a look later today! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 15:23, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
Keep in mind that it is the work of many who contributed sources to the rescue. Once all that effort was made, I thought we might try ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:32, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the review, - I'll look tomorrow. - Enjoy today's story, related to my topic of the year: 300 years Bach's chorale cantatas, and the first was written for today, - listen to the music, beginning with a French overture for a chorale fantasy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:37, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
Franz Kafka died 100 years ago OTD, hence the story. I uploaded a few pics from the visit of Graham87. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:41, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about an extraordinary biography, Peter Demetz. - I uploaded a few more pics but leave the link, because there's a new one of Graham and his mother who liked it. - I mentioned your review of the soprano in the DYK nom of Daniela Kerck. Thank you! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:14, 5 June 2024 (UTC)
New pics of spectacular weather. Another interesting person: Alexander Lang. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:16, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about a tune used by Bach and Mozart. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:03, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
Today I wanted to write a happy song story, on a friend's birthday, but instead we have the word of thunder on top of it, which would have been better on 2 June, this year's first Sunday after Trinity. The new lilypond - thanks to DanCherek - is quite impressive. As my 2 Jun story said: Bach was fired up. - Today's Main page is rich in music, also Franz Liszt and a conductor. Compare Liszt and Schumann: which difference do you see in the infobox? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:20, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
It is great to see Liszt up there- @Ligaturama put in immense work into creating an excellent composer bio! For Schumann: while I would personally appreciate the signature and list of compositions, I accept that TR does not personally agree wwth including those parameters- if anything, I'm happy he even kept the box in the first place. At least we have some facts a glance to work with! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 22:18, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
I discussed this with Iadmc and won't repeat. I'm not happy about proudly advertising to have kept the box and removing its most valuable part, which the colleague marked as a MoS violation (Percy Grainger) although that FA article's author had included it in the first attempt, in 2013. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:53, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
Today is "the day" for James Joyce, also for Bach's fourth chorale cantata (and why does it come before the third?) - the new pics have a mammal I had to look up. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:12, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
New pics of food and flowers come with the story of Noye's Fludde (premiered on 18 June), written by Brian Boulton. I nominated Éric Tappy because he died, and it needs support today! I nominated another women for GA in the Women in Green June run, - review welcome, and more noms planned. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:44, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
Congratulations to Igor Stravinsky for FA! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:30, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
Today is a feast day for which Bach composed a chorale cantata in 1724 (and we had a DYK about it in 2012). Can't believe that Jodie Devos had to die, - don't miss her video from the Opéra-Comique at the end, - story to come. The weekend brought plenty of music sung and listened to, and some of it is reflected in the last two stories! + pics of good food with good company --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:24, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
