RE: Emptying categories

Hi,
I understand why you reverted my edits, and I respect your decision. The goal was to actually bring a full category with no subcategories, but I guess it's better like it was before my edits. I still might add a direct link to the List of novels based on video games in each subcategory.
See you next time!
--Golden Specter (talk) 09:56, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

You know, that might be a very good idea indeed. Thanks for the note and keep up the good work! - The Bushranger One ping only 03:11, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

Newbies problem again

  • See User talk:Geeciii, refuses to acknowledge his own problem(s) and still carries on with the non-consensus approved changing of content (contravening WP:MOS) on Philippine Army. Also, he has deliberately ignored our advices/warnings to him on more than 1 occasions. Time for a short block to bring our points across? --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 07:05, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
    • I've given him an explanation of how WP:BRD is supposed to work, hopefully this will work as a Cluehammer 40K application. - The Bushranger One ping only 09:00, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
      • TBH, I've had it with that jerk, he's been ignoring us since day 1 of his editing. And he's not helping us having confidence in him by going on with his multiple violations of WP:MOS in them article pages. Sheeesh! --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 10:11, 8 June 2013 (UTC)
  • TBR, think you might have to step in to stop him now, given that more than 1 other editor has been reverted his nonsense (→history←), especially those expired links as he claims them to be here and a few other pages, since the end of "our" last conversation. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 02:23, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
    • I think we might have a WP:COMPETENCE issue here, although maybe I'm just extending a little too much WP:ROPE due to the yummy pizza I just had...anyway, gave him the stop sign, if he keeps it up then unfortunatly it'll be hammertime. - The Bushranger One ping only 02:45, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
      • This latest has been confirmed as a blatant copy-&-paste move from the official website onto WP. Only a block or a train can stop him now. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 03:17, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
        • Toot toot...peanut butter. Alas I don't have much hope for improvement. - The Bushranger One ping only 23:28, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
          • Please, you got to stop this guy, he's totally outta control... especially here. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 11:56, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
            • Given that he blanked the talk page of his comments - removing others' in the process - it looks as if he's just being WP:POINTy now. Blocked for a week with a stern "knock it off or indef". (Also note the "who's sock is that anyway" on his talk page...sigh!) - The Bushranger One ping only 22:28, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
              • Well, that sock should either be... one of those other Pinoy editors who gets shot down everytime for making non-consensus-approved changes to any Philippine related article pages, or a dear stalker of your truly... but I really doubt so given his poor command of English, in which I'm leaning towards to believe it was the former. Almost a month since registering on Wikipedia and Geeciii still hasn't learn a thing or two on how to behave and to edit here, issue perhaps with WP:Competence is required#Lack of technical expertise? --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 06:55, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
                • I was actually referring to this fellow re:Sock, but I do think the problem is more WP:CIR than anything else, yes. Unfortunatly, regardless of the cause, disruption is disruption... - The Bushranger One ping only 09:04, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, User:HonerableHerb definitely smells like a sock, and was certainly trolling. A likely old stalker, in any event. - BilCat (talk) 10:51, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
  • He's allowed to remove those comments without comment (in fact, I need to caution you not to add them back unless you want to get dinged for WP:3RR). If he resumes when the block expires, it'll be indef time, but for now, there's nothing to do here. - The Bushranger One ping only 01:41, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
Yes, an editor blanking or removing comments from their own talk page is admitting they've read them. Btw, BR, Disonerable herbie is trying to stir up trouble here. Time for a sockhunt yet? The name is a bit reminiscent of Chaka the not so great. - BilCat (talk) 03:47, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Hmmm... And I was wondering where I've seen those shoeprints before... it most certainly fits the great smelling one. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 04:04, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
It probably isn't him, but any excuse to run a check-user. :) -BilCat (talk) 04:09, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
Of course! - BilCat (talk) 06:32, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Good news: Herbie has been dishonorably discharged from WP. - BilCat (talk) 14:22, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

I think I may found the sockmaster for Geeciii: User:Gcguevarra - get it? Geeciii = Gc! There are some pages both have edited on, though not a lot. Is this enough for a Checkuser/SPI? - BilCat (talk) 14:32, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
  • I gotta concur with Bill, Gcguevarra stinks to high heaven with the smell of his dirty hands, and socks now. Time to interrogate his smelly footsleeves? Or should we just proceed with SPI, given that the former was blocked around 9 May and the latter started to show up on our radar a few days after, on 13 May... the chances are high that both are the same. TBR, your thoughts? --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 15:17, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
  •  Sounds like a duck quacking into a megaphone to me. After looking through the contribution histories I agree 100% that Geecii = Gcguevarra. The editing interests overlap nearly entirely and there are spelling/grammar telltales in the edit summaries that are red flags...and both Geecii and Gcguevarra suddenly this very afternoon posted "I want to delete my account on Wikipedia" messages on their pages. I've gone deaf. - The Bushranger One ping only 18:20, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
  • Damn~! I'm just starting my graveyard shift and there you go about gravy... need food now~! Good catch, man... good catch! --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 18:32, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello! Now, some of you might have already received a similar message a little while ago regarding the Recruitment Centre, so if you have, there is no need to read the rest of this. This message is directed to users who have reviewed over 15 Good article nominations and are not part of WikiProject Good articles (the first message I sent out went to only WikiProject members).

So for those who haven't heard about the Recruitment Centre yet, you may be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around it (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with (at the time this message was sent out, 2 recruiters have volunteered), the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

Could you have a word with an editor?

I'm talking about Johnsmith2116. He does incomplete edits to golfer win boxes. Every weekend. Here[1], here[2], here[3], here[4], here[5], here[6], here[7], to name a few. They get in the way of editors who want to do the boxes correctly and in this case, the incomplete edit[8] was wrong and I had to go fix[9] the article's formatting. I've brought up the subject on his talk page[10], but he has ignored it....William 22:21, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

I've dropped him a line. - The Bushranger One ping only 02:49, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Moldova

I noticed that you contributed to the discussion of Category:1857 establishments in Pakistan. An if anything worse case has developed with the discussion of Category:1939 establishments in Moldova. The people advocating for this category are ignoring that there was a Category:1939 establishments in the Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, that this category under discussion was previously renamed to that, and that that category became empty because the one thing in that category was not established in the Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic but in Romania. They are essentially attacking me for insisting that we should not put in a Soviet Union category something established in Romania. They seem intent on ignoring what I have actually said, and acting like there was no entity in 1939 called Moldova, when it is fairly clear that in 1939 the term would have been understood to refer to the MASSR, and that to categorize things not in the MASSR is to ignore reality. Maybe I should just sit back and wait, but neither of the commenters exhibit any attempt to have read what I wrote, and their attacking me for emptying something from a category where it clearly did not belong is really frustrating.John Pack Lambert (talk) 16:35, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunatly things like this tend to be...shall we say, highly passionate in certain quarters. What I'd suggest in future situations like this is to WP:BOLDly move the contents of a recreated, clearly duplictious category to the correct one, and then make the "wrongly named" category a category redirect to the correct one. - The Bushranger One ping only 22:00, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
As long as he realizes that such an approach will probably result in a bold reversion. </passion>. Good Ol’factory (talk) 22:40, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry User:Gcguevarra and User:Geeciii

You might want to take a look at IP 66.87.83.174 too, or keep an eye on it, because it interacted intimately with User:Geeciii and User:HonerableHerb on 8-9 June, but hasn't been seen after that. Or before that, for that matter. Thomas.W (talk) 18:40, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I hope its ok to ask for your help here. I wonder if you could check out this user it seems like he has made this his personal resume page. (Or possibly advertising for speaking engagements) He even has his phone number on it. Capitalismojo (talk) 19:25, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

The same content has been speedy deleted off his userpage multiple times. I've tagged his talk page for speedy deletion as well now, although blanking and then indef blocking might be better. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:41, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
Actually, he's already indef'd. Reset with talk page access revoked. - The Bushranger One ping only 19:53, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Request to userfy University of Houston Creative Writing Program

Hi Bushranger!

My name is Angelica and I'm writing to ask for your help. I saw that the article for University of Houston Creative Writing Program was deleted, and I am aware of the issues with the article. I believe though the article can be improved, and I think several points weren't brought up at the deletion discussion because no one with any knowledge about the program bothered to look for sources. I have found books about the program:

https://www.google.com/search?q=university+of+houston+Creative+Writing+Program+&rlz=1C1TSNF_enUS454US454&oq=university+of+houston+Creative+Writing+Program+&aqs=chrome.0.59l2j60j62l3.3682j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=university+of+houston+Creative+Writing+Program&rlz=1C1TSNF_enUS454US454&source=lnms&tbm=bks&sa=X&ei=6vS8UfaqGo-hiAfuloGwBA&ved=0CA4Q_AUoAg&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47883778,d.aGc&fp=93eed9ed8287e27e&biw=1241&bih=551

as well as web sources

http://www.pw.org/files/topfifty_secured.pdf http://www.pw.org/files/doctoral_secured_0.pdf

and news sources in the Houston Chronicle, HoustonPress, Huffington Post, Associated Press etc.

In short, I think if I worked on it a little bit with some help on formatting, we could show this is notable in a wikipedia sense.

Also, I talked to another editor, JohnCD and he mentioned issues with its long lists. I am willing to help reformat that information in an article format so that it isn't just an indiscriminate list of information, but a pared down article about relevant people.

I am wondering if you would be willing to userfy it on a sub-page on my user space. I would be really interested in working with you to make sure it meets WP's standard of notability, at which point you could re-instate the article.

Thanks in advance! Angelica G. Onthedeck (talk) 23:21, 15 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi there, I've restored the page to your userspace here. One thing you might wish to consider though is whether any of the content might be better included in the main article on the university, instead of in a seperate article. Either way, good luck! - The Bushranger One ping only 01:56, 16 June 2013 (UTC)

Well, it really should have been sent through WP:CFD for deletion, even as disruptive as its creation apparently is. If it gets repopulated, send it there; in the meantime, I've tagged it for C1. - The Bushranger One ping only 16:02, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

More sock at PhAF?

Your assistance please

You closed the {{afd}} on Mohammed Abdullah Taha Mattan. He is in the news again.

  • Lauren Carasik (2013-06-19). "The tragic tale of Guantanamo detainee #684: It's time for the US to release Mohammed Mattan, who has been languishing at Guantanamo for 11 years without charges". Al Jazeera. {{cite news}}: Unknown parameter |deadurl= ignored (|url-status= suggested) (help)
  • "Guantanamo Review Dispositions -- Final Dispositions as of January 22, 2010" (PDF). Miami Herald. 2013-06-13. Retrieved 2013-06-19. {{cite news}}: Unknown parameter |deadurl= ignored (|url-status= suggested) (help)

I'd like to re-examine the article, to see how much coverage he merits, given this new news coverage. Maybe notable details from the deleted article merit inclusion into a new article on the captives who were previously secretly cleared for release? The Obama administration's attempts to keep this list secret stirred a lot of controversy.

Recently, when {{afd}}s concluded specific Guantanamo captives didn't merit separate articles about them some of have been closed as redirect and merge to the articles on Guantanamo captives to that nation -- with the original contribution history and talk page available for review.

In his case that would be Palestinian detainees at Guantanamo Bay. I request you restore the original contribution history and talk page, and turn it into another redirect to Palestinian detainees at Guantanamo Bay. If you are concerned someone will change the redirect back to an article, ignoring the closure, you could lock it so only administrators could edit it.

Thanks Geo Swan (talk) 20:39, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

That seems reasonable enough; restored and redirected. No need for a pre-emptive protection though (and technically that's against policy). Keep up the good work. - The Bushranger One ping only 15:56, 20 June 2013 (UTC)
  • I appreciate that you had already left the full history for some other articles. I found another contributor had undone the redirection of Nabil_Hadjarab, adding one further sentence. As I explained on the talk page. I didn't think that small change was sufficient, so I changed it back to a redirection. Geo Swan (talk) 19:48, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Reliable Sources

Regardless of your personal opinion of UPI's reliability, I would like to see you defend the implication that The South Jersey Times is not a reliable source. 69.125.120.45 (talk) 03:12, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Unlike your 'lol' comment with regards to Utter, I made no such implication regarding The South Jersey Times. But when one source says 'A' and three (or more) sources say 'B', it's reasonable to assume that the source that says 'A' has made an error. (And given the fact that, as mentioned, the Pennsylvania coroner did the autopsy, WP:COMMONSENSE kicks in too). - The Bushranger One ping only 19:58, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Old AfD now at RM

Hi Bushranger, back in 2011 you closed this AfD. I'm sure you remember it like it was yesterday. The story as I understand it: there was an article on a guy that didn't pass muster but it was deemed that the article would work if it was about a reality TV show the guy was in. You closed as keep and rename, the article was renamed, but basically no one took the time to reformat the article to match the new title (I'm shocked, shocked!). Fast forward to a week ago, and another editor makes an RM to rename the article after the guy. Another editor says it should be deleted. And I don't really know what to do. Could you weigh in at Talk:Dolce Vito – Dream Restaurant#Requested move? Thanks, BDD (talk) 17:18, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Sorry I missed this, I'll take a look when I get a chance. - The Bushranger One ping only 10:47, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

WP:NASCAR Newsletter (June 2013)

This newsletter was delivered by EdwardsBot (talk) 02:50, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

I have photos of him winning that Oktoberfest race believe it or not! I uploaded a photo of his car parked right in front of me in the dark right before his race win. I have photos of him after he won with his hands in the air while standing above the car! He stopped right in front of me. His helmet stayed on for all of the photos. The photos are very dark, despite the wide aperture in my telephoto lens, high ISO, and having programmed slow shutter speed. Are you really talented with photo editing or know someone else? I have minimal talent. I'll email it to anyone who wants to give it a stab. Just send me a message. I'm planning to going to races this Wed and Thurs so don't be surprised if I don't respond rapidly. Royalbroil 04:31, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Awesome! Unfortunatly I'm zilch about photoediting, so I can't help there. Have fun at the races! - The Bushranger One ping only 17:28, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
I put it up, doing the best that I could. I went to that modified special on Wed and it rained out on Thursday. The $10000 to win was largest purse ever offered for a mod race in Wisconsin history. I'm taking the weekend off of races. (I usually do weekend races not weekdays). On Tuesday I'll be going to the Slinger Nationals - camera in hand. I want to see the Dick Trickle Memorial. Usually some Cup drivers or up-and-comers show up. Ross Kenseth should be there (I have info stashed on him if he does become notable and I have TONS of great photos) plus hotshoes from Florida and the West Coast. Royalbroil 23:48, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
I bet Ross will pass the bar pretty soon - if he isn't in Trucks next year at least here and there I'll be amazed. Florida shoes, eh? Wonder if Cody Lane will be there? And that reminds me, are you going to be at the Howie Lettow Memorial? - The Bushranger One ping only 00:26, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Nice to see you back on patrol. It has been an unusual couple of weeks, to say the least. I'm sure your insights will be helpful. Dennis Brown |  | © | WER 23:00, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

I kinda noticed. I'll try to chip in where I can, my brain has been mush from the heat the last few months and it's only June... - The Bushranger One ping only 23:16, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
There has been a lot of heat there, and arguably some quick triggers as well. Perhaps all the kids out of school are making the boards busier than usual, or just drowning out the signal with a lot of noise, but there has been a shortage of "calm", and a lot of rush to action that has caused a lot of blow back. I can't ask for more than you have to give, but it has made me notice your absence. Dennis Brown |  | © | WER 23:32, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
I think the biggest problem is the "somebody is wrong on the Internet" phenomeon mixing with "we have to do something NOW" which leads to lynch mobs... - The Bushranger One ping only 00:26, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
I would agree, and some admin are also getting caught up in it. Last couple of days have been calmer though. Dennis Brown |  | WER 23:23, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Editor Johnsmith2116

He's making those incomplete golf edits again. Check here[12] and here[13]....William 16:21, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

I've dropped him a line. - The Bushranger One ping only 21:32, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
Hopefully he'll listen this time but this editor never acknowledges anything on his talk page so it is hard to tell. I discovered the edits when preparing to update Casey's win box and decided to check if someone beat me to it. The Irish Open edit there was no excuse not to complete it. Casey was done for the day. His score was known. There was a problem with the edit in that the tournament wasn't over yet though the odds of those chasing Casey going birdie-Double eagle was more than a little bit high.
FYI I have done lots of win and playoff boxes for golfers. The LPGA Tour win[14] and playoff box[15] for Kathy Whitworth who only has 88 LPGA wins and appeared in 28 playoffs on that tour. I did the boxes for Woods, but I did the ones for Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Most of this list's golfers win and playoff boxes were done by me. Other golfers can work on them of course, but they should do it right. It isn't hard....William 22:39, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

We are down to our final 16: the 2013 semi-finals are upon us. A score of 321 was required to survive round 3, further cementing this as the most competitive WikiCup yet; round 3 was survived in 2012 with 243 points, in 2011 with 76 points and in 2010 with 250 points. The change may in part be to do with the fact that more articles are now awarded bonus points, in addition to more competitive play. Reaching the final has, in the past, required 573 points (2012, a 135% increase on the score needed to reach round 4), 150 points (2011, a 97% increase) and 417 points (2010, a 72% increase). This round has seen over a third of participants claiming points for featured articles (with seven users claiming for multiple featured articles) and most users have also gained bonus points. However, the majority of points continue to come from good articles, followed by did you know articles. In this round, every content type was utilised by at least one user, proving that the WikiCup brings together content contributors from all corners of the project.

Round 3 saw a number of contributions of note. Idaho Figureskatingfan (submissions) claimed the first featured topic points in this year's competition for her excellent work on topics related to Maya Angelou, the noted American author and poet. We have also continued to see high-importance articles improved as part of the competition: Wyoming Ealdgyth (submissions) was awarded a thoroughly well-earned 560 points for her featured article Middle Ages and 102 points for her good article Battle of Hastings. Good articles James Chadwick and Stanislaw Ulam netted Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions) 102 and 72 points respectively, while 72 points were awarded to Poland Piotrus (submissions) for each of Władysław Sikorski and Emilia Plater, both recently promoted to good article status. Collaborative efforts between WikiCup participants have continued, with, for example, New South Wales Casliber (submissions) and Canada Sasata (submissions) being awarded 180 points each for their featured article on Boletus luridus.

A rules reminder: content promoted between rounds can be claimed in the round after the break, but not the round before. The case in point is content promoted on the 29/30 June, which may be claimed in this round. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. We are currently seeing concern about the amount of time people have to wait for reviews, especially at GAC- if you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. I see your scholarly sidekick, is removing properly inserted external links on the Boeing 777 article. This comes immediately after his MP5 infobox tantrum. I suggest you get proactive on keeping him under control, before he ends up back on AN/I. Possibly he should concentrate on tagging blocked user pages, or other areas where he would be less destructive to the article space. 173.133.232.115 (talk) 01:32, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, but while his reason in the link may not have been the correct one, I fully agree with the removal of the links, barring the FlightGlobal ones, as they were not helpful to readers. - The Bushranger One ping only 01:38, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Please undelete Cross Enterprise Document Sharing

This is a significant means of sharing medical information which has been slow to catch on the US (though meaningful use regs are now pushing it) but it is widely used in large parts of Europe, Australasia and Africa, with use in hundreds of hospitals and many thousands of people working on implementations. I see that only 2-3 people contributed to the delete discussion (none of them names I know, and one frankly wrong in his dismissiveness - probably looking from a US perspective). OK - it might need some improvement/better references, but I'd prefer to start from an existing page than from scratch! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Medconn (talkcontribs) 22:17, 14 July 2013 (UTC) Medconn (talk) 22:26, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

If you believe that the deletion was in error, you need to file a request for undeletion at WP:DRV. - The Bushranger One ping only 23:15, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
Not technically an "error" as 2 people (who don't know the subject) agreed, so procedurally it was correct (but unfortunate) - so according to my reading of the rules, such a review would automatically fail, however bizarre the logic of those voting for the deletion - am I right? (I'm an occasional editor - not 100% conversant with the 5 different deletion routes!). So rather than waste time on a doomed review, based on the pages and pages I've now read about deletion procedures, it seems that what I need is a "history-only undelete" - to either my userspace or to articlespace, so that the preceding authors can retain their credits once I've tidied it up - is that right?Medconn (talk) 23:53, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
As I understand it, it's not an "automatic fail", if the case can be made that the deletion !votes were based on faulty premises. However, I've userified the page here for you. Do bear in mind that the article as it was was wholly unreferenced, so I'd start "fixing" it there. - The Bushranger One ping only 00:28, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Honduras

Hi Bushranger! As the protecting admin of the Honduras article, would you consider changing the protection level to allow IP edits? It has been continuously semi-protected since October 2011, and there have been really few edits so far this year (only 30, of which 16 were marked as minor).--eh bien mon prince (talk) 07:13, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

K&N Filters

Would you please look over the discussion at Talk:K&N Engineering, Inc. and give your opinion as to the reliability of the sources used in the criticism section? It has been difficult to find sources about the major national filter manufacturer. On one hand you have an employee of the company who has been using the talk page instead of just editing. On the other side, there is a critic of K&N. I'd rather someone else be in between right now. Royalbroil 02:40, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Compromised user name ?

Hi Bushranger. I remember you dealing with a compromised username two years ago (here), so I thought what I see as a present problem might be up your street. In this article (Tulip Radio) a user (User talk:TulipRadio) has been adding back, after reversions, what I believe is promo stuff about the radio station, contrary to guidelines per WP:NOTDIRECTORY. This appears to me conflict of interest – the only edits for this user have been to this radio station, and I don’t want to keep reverting and falling foul of the three revert rule. Could you cast your eye over this please and make any decisions you think fit. Many thanks. Acabashi (talk) 20:23, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

This isn't "compromised" as much as "conflict of interest", but it's a clear role-account/COI. I've softblocked - they're welcome to create a new account as an individual, but still need to watch their COI. - The Bushranger One ping only 22:38, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

Userification request

Hi Bushranger :) I've been looking through some archives at deleted articles, and I believe Thomas Jäger (racing driver), which you deleted after an AfD discussion, is now notable enough for an article. As a result, could you restore the article into my user area? That way, we keep together the page history, and I (possibly) have to spend less time redoing the article. Thanks in advance :) Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 08:53, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure Formula 3 doesn't rise to the level of notability (see discussion here), but he's close, so I've placed the article in your userspace. Note that I've changed it to User:Lukeno94/Thomas Jäger (Austrian racing driver), as there is another driver by that name from Germany! - The Bushranger One ping only 22:45, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

Police brutality in California

Hi Bushranger, I had stumbled across Category:Police brutality in the United States, and I thought it would be useful to create Category:Police brutality in California as a subcat; just at a quick glance, I see plenty of articles that could be more specifically categorized thus. When I went to create it, I noticed you deleted it pursuant to a CfD, but looking over that discussion, it doesn't look like anyone addressed California specifically. While that discussion did eliminate most country subcats of Category:Police brutality, the US category remained, and was apparently not listed in the CfD (perhaps because of its size). So to sum up, am I ok to create that subcat? I'd think it was just regular housekeeping if it hadn't come up at CfD. --BDD (talk) 18:27, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

My opinion would be that unless other by-state subcategories would be appropriate breakouts, creating just one shouldn't be done, but perhaps a fresh CfD discussion (it is after all Categories for Discussion ) about creating the new category might help clear it up? - The Bushranger One ping only 06:49, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

  • IMHO the first part is borderline but simply a case of a frustated editor expressing an opinion. The ending, though (about being "genuinely pleased") could very well be taken as a personal attack and comments like that really shouldn't be made. - The Bushranger One ping only 06:54, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
    • Oh dear. I stand wholeheartedly by the comment. So let's do something about it. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:16, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
      • Then don't be surprised when somebody less que-sera-sera than I gives you an NPA tag for comments like that in the future. - The Bushranger One ping only 07:17, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
        • I won't be at all surprised, I realise Wikipedia is edited by all strata of society, including those who throw "NPA" around for anything or anyone with which they have the slightest disagreement. If you consider that to be a personal attack, then I despair, but at least it lets me know how to approach you and User:Ahunt in future. Thanks for your time, have a great weekend. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:21, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Random "Talk: you have new messages" messages?

After someone left me a real talk page message, I stopped getting the fake thing. Perhaps this message will resolve the problem for you as it did for me. Might help if you'd report at VPT what happens after you get this message, especially if the fakes continue. Nyttend (talk) 22:18, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

WikiCup 2013 July newsletter

We're halfway through this year's penultimate round, and the competition is moving along well. Pool A's Canada Sasata (submissions) currently leads overall, while Pool B's Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) is second. Both leaders are WikiCup veterans, and both have already scored over 600 points this month. If the round were to end today, London Miyagawa (submissions), with 274 points, would be the lowest-scoring participant to make it through. This indicates that participants will need a score comparable to last year's (573, the highest ever) to qualify for the final. The high scores this year are a testament both to the quality of participants and to the increased focus on significant content (eligible for bonus points) in this year's competition. So far this round, both Sasata and Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) have made up over half of their score through bonus points, with, for example, high importance FA koala earning Sasata a total of 440 points (from a multiplier of 4.4) and high-importance GA sea earning Cwmhiraeth a total of 216 points (from a multiplier of 7.2). Other articles on important topics submitted this round include a featured article on the Norman conquest of England by Wyoming Ealdgyth (submissions), and good articles on Nobel laureate in literature Henryk Sienkiewicz, Nobel laureate in physics Hans Bethe, and the noted Japanese aircraft carrier Hiryū. These articles are by Poland Piotrus (submissions), Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions) and Sturmvogel_66 respectively.

Other than that, there is not much to report! If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck!
