That IP editor who keeps requesting redirects about etymologies is [[User:Mx. Clarks]], an account that is globally blocked. I just saw on another user talk page that they admitted that they couldn't use their regular account so they edit as an IP which I guess is why they keep requesting that you create pages for them. Many of these edits were helpful. An SBN, however, is not the same thing as an ISBN (history discussed here), leading to the errors seen here. Most large file uploads errors that had messages like "stashfailed" or "DBQueryError" have now been fixed. An incident report is available.
Problems
Sometimes, edits made on iOS using the visual editor save groups of numbers as telephone number links, because of a feature in the operating system. This problem is under investigation. [1]
There was a problem with search last week. Many search requests did not work for 2 hours because of a configuration error. [2]

That being said, I made that link years ago and it was certainly an inside joke that did not stand up to any scrutiny and was likely correctly admonished as a "blatant hoax", or at least "implausible" ;)....I suppose I am just as sad to see it go as I am glad that the powers at be do not allow such jiggery pokery to go on indefinitely.

The already authorized standard discretionary sanctions for all pages relating to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes), broadly construed, have been made permanent.
Thank you so much for tagging the empty categories! For years, I did this task every morning (U.S. time) but lately I've been getting to it later and later in the day and I didn't do it at all yesterday so today's list was twice as long. It's good that there is more than one person who checks this list. Typically, there are between 10-20 categories each day but it can get into the hundreds depending on what pages have been deleted so extra help is always welcome. It doesn't take a lot of time to do, but it's good to stay on top of so things don't pile up.
There are a few editors who create most of our categories who have asked not to be notified when a category they created has become empty and I can relay this information to you if you pick this up as a regular task and add it to your already crowded list of things you tend to on Wikipedia. Voting opens at 00:01 the following day and will continue until 31 December at 23:59, just before "Auld Lang Syne". Coordinators normally serve a six-month term and are elected on an approval basis. Other news
It is with great sadness that we report the death on 19 November of Twofingered Typist, who was active with the Guild almost daily for the past several years. His contributions long exceeded the thresholds for the Guild's highest awards, and he had a hand in innumerable good and featured article promotions as a willing collaborator. Twofingered Typist also served as a Guild coordinator from July 2019 to June 2021. He is sorely missed by the Wikipedia community.
Progress report: As of 30 November, GOCE copyeditors have completed 619 requests in 2021 and there were 51 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog stood at 946 articles tagged for copy-editing (see monthly progress graph above).

At all Wikipedias, a Mentor Dashboard is now available at Special:MentorDashboard. The predecessor to the current MediaWiki Action API (which was created in 2008), action=ajax, will be removed this week. Any scripts or bots using it will need to switch to the corresponding API module. [4]
An old ResourceLoader module, jquery.jStorage, which was deprecated in 2016, will be removed this week. Any scripts or bots using it will need to switch to mediawiki.storage instead. [5]

BRFA activity by month
Welcome to the eighth issue of the English Wikipedia's Bots Newsletter, your source for all things bot. Maintainers disappeared to parts unknown... bots awakening from the slumber of æons... hundreds of thousands of short descriptions... these stories, and more, are brought to you by Wikipedia's most distinguished newsletter about bots.
Our last issue was in August 2019, so there's quite a bit of catching up to do. Due to the vast quantity of things that have happened, the next few issues will only cover a few months at a time. This month, we'll go from September 2019 through the end of the year. I won't bore you with further introductions — instead, I'll bore you with a newsletter about bots.
Overall
Between September and December 2019, there were 33 BRFAs. Of these, Y 25 were approved, and 8 were unsuccessful (N2 3 denied, ? 3 withdrawn, and 2 expired).
TParis goes away, UTRSBot goes kaput: Beeblebroxnoted that the bot for maintaining on-wiki records of UTRS appeals stopped working a while ago. TParis, the semi-retired user who had previously run it, said they were "unlikely to return to actively editing Wikipedia", and the bot had been vanquished by trolls submitting bogus UTRS requests on behalf of real blocked users. While OAuth was a potential fix, neither maintainer had time to implement it. TParis offered to access to the UTRS WMFLabs account to any admin identified with the WMF: "I miss you guys a whole lot [...] but I've also moved on with my life. Good luck, let me know how I can help". Ultimately, SQL ended up in charge. Some progress was made, and the bot continued to work another couple months — but as of press time, UTRSBot has not edited since November 2019.
Curb Safe Charmer adopts reFill: TAnthonypointed out that reFill 2's bug reports were going unanswered; creator Zhaofeng Li had retired from Wikipedia, and a maintainer was needed. As of June 2021, Curb Safe Charmer had taken up the mantle, saying: "Not that I have all the skills needed but better me than nobody! 'Maintainer' might be too strong a term though. Volunteers welcome!"

Oh...yeah...that editor is trying to make trouble for me because we have history. "Soft-redirected userbox" are my words from earlier this week. He knows full well that I've been working on fixing userbox transclusions in AWB as a pet project since the pandemic began. I've fixed tens of thousands. The irony is that I'm nearly done. The two userboxes that he mentioned in that request were near the bottom of my to-do list. That IP editor who keeps requesting redirects about etymologies is User:Mx. Clarks, an account that is globally blocked. I just saw on another user talk page that they admitted that they couldn't use their regular account so they edit as an IP which I guess is why they keep requesting that you create pages for them.
