GA Sweeps invitation

This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.

We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.

If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Could someone please take a look at the edits by 76.232.254.170 (talk · contribs)? He claims to be reverting vandalism. Who then was a gentleman? (talk) 01:14, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So far most of the edits by the user can be considered as vandalism because all the person is doing is deleting Pashto/Pashtun related contents in different pages of wikipedia. (Ketabtoon (talk) 19:30, 25 July 2009 (UTC))[reply]

GA reassessment of Persian literature

I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have found a large number of concerns with the article which you can see at Talk:Persian literature/GA1. I have de-listed the article and when the concerns have been addressed it can be renominated at WP:GAN. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 18:45, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request for assistance

Hey guys, I work over at the Motto of the Day project, and I was wondering if someone here would be willing to help us out with something. A quote was submitted to become one of our daily mottos; it was taken from Wikiquote where it is said to be an Afghani proverb. However, we're not 100% confident on the English translation. If any of you guys are native speakers, would you mind popping over and taking a look at it for us? We'd really appreciate the assistance. The discussion is here. Thanks again for the help and for your time. Nutiketaiel (talk) 12:17, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Error in a reference. I don't know how to fix it.

There's an error in the 22nd reference at the bottom of the article. Evan Thomas's article appeared in the OCTOBER 1 2001 issue of Newsweek, not the January 2001 issue as is stated in the reference. Can someone who knows how to make that edit please make that change?

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Hi guys. Myself and ManicSpider have been working on the article Nasrullah Khan which we found while doing unsourced articles patrol, but neither of us have any prior knowledge of Afghanistan history or any real familiarity with the region, so we could use the help of any Afghan historians out there. Or alternatively the page could use an independent quality assessment. Thanks! - DustFormsWords (talk) 01:37, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please clearly explain how this individual merits notability as a biography, and one of us would be happy to help you create an article for him. Ongoing work to expand Category:Nangarhar Province

I've added several categories and sorted pages into Nangarhar, as well as created some district-level articles, some tribal articles, etc. Would appreciate any feedback on this process as I continue to expand Nangarhar coverage. Stability Information East 2 (talk) 10:03, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While I'm here, does anyone know how to create a "pin map" just for Nangarhar Province? It seems excessive to have Nangarhar villages shown as points on a huge Afghanistan map, rather than zoomed in to the province itself. Stability Information East 2 (talk) 19:42, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Afghanistan/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Afghanistan/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 01:37, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The above article has been fully protected for a month, to allow the dispute to be resolved, and a consensus reached.

Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons

The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

Your Project's list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Afghanistan/Unreferenced BLPs. As of May 17 you have approximately 33 articles to be referenced. The list of all other WikiProject UBLPs can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons/WikiProjects.

Your assistance in reviewing and referencing these articles is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please don't hestitate to ask either at WT:URBLP or at my talk page. Thanks, The-Pope (talk) 17:00, 17 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Afghanistan articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Afghanistan articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

The article on former Afghan politician Halimzai has been tagged as an unreferenced BLP since December 2008, which is the current focus month of the BLP Rescue Project. I have tried, and failed, to find any reliable sources (or, in fact, any sources at all) for this individual (as opposed to the grouping of the same name). I'm posting here in the hope that someone with better knowledge of the area and the history might like to take an interest and provide at least one reliable source. Or, if the subject does not meet the notability guidelines, tag the article with a PROD template.--Plad2 (talk) 21:14, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Propose articles on suicide and mental health

I'm doing a little work on Category:Health in Afghanistan, and would like to propose forming Suicide in Afghanistan and Mental health in Afghanistan. On the first issue, there was a flood of coverage in mid-2010 of female self-immolation, but I'm not seeing much coverage other than that exact topic. Plus it's hard to screen out everything related to suicide bombing/attacks (outside the scope of my intended article). Further, there have been some studies by various governments on Afghan mental health after 30yrs of war, and I think it could be an extremely fertile topic, and arguably something that a few editors could push up to GA status relatively quickly. Thoughts? Links to recommended resources? MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:07, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AWBing new articles

There's a whole collection of redlinked Afghan location articles waiting to be created. These can be started with AWB, and I'd like to go ahead and start doing that tomorrow, as long as there's no objection. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Afghanistan/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. WikiWomen's History Month

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Afghanistan will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in Afghani history, society and culture. New article on a Communist Afghan political figure important in Northern Afghanistan in the 1980s. Started it because I saw his redlink in the lede of Sar-e Pol Province, since apparently he was the one who advocated for the province's creation. Where is Afghanistan after all?

Hi, there have been a recent series of edits and edit requests, by IP and by Special:Contributions/AA193 concerning the sub-regional location of Afghanistan; claims are made that Afghanistan is in fact in the middle east, or in West Asia. I have started a discussion here Talk:Afghanistan#Afghanistan_in_the_Middle_East. I'd be interested in having User:AA193 and other editors contribute their thoughts, ideally backed up by references, as clearly there are conflicting views on whether Afghanistan is in central asia, south asia, west asia, the middle east, or all of the above. I hope a consensus can be formed, which would then be allowed to percolate through other articles. My own recommendation, which would hold for all disputes of this type (and not just Afghanistan), would be to use the UN geographic classifications; these have the advantage of having been agreed by the UN in general, which was not an easy process, and standardizing on these classifications may help avoid the sort of disputes that this question in particular brings up.--KarlB (talk) 16:06, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

English Language and Computer Learning Centers (ELCLCs)

Another editor created an article about ELCLC, an education program in Afghanistan. The article appears to be a copyvio and does not demonstrate notability. Perhaps someone here could improve the article. Otherwise, it is likely to be deleted. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 06:26, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Descendants of Qais Abdul Rasheed

The descendants of Qais Abdul Rasheed cannot be found in his page. Good evening all,

I hope everyone is well. i am looking to get in touch with the contributor/wikipedian if you will who contributed the piece on the Quetta Shura page where different members of the Shura are broken down into a chart/table. I had some questions on Sirajuddin Haqqani and his connextion to the Shura as well as maybe have an opportunity to share some information back and forth.

Rumi from a neutral point of view

Hello, I have a recommendation about the article Rumi.
Please read all the information, I wrote on Talk, and tell whether you agree or disagree.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Rumi#Let.27s_Remove_POV_with_a_Neutral_Point_of_View
You know the ethnicity of Rumi is unknown and debated. I hope you contribute to this matter. Alternatively, from a neutral point of view, I recommend to change the (POV) sentence to a (NPOV) sentence:
"a 13th-century Persian Muslim poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic."
to "a 13th-century Muslim poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic of Persian literature. 81.213.117.125 (talk) 21:37, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Content dispute at Ahmad Shah Massoud

There is a dispute at Ahmad Shah Massoud on weighting of material. I have fully protected the article and strongly suggested a structured debate to resolve it. There is alot of discussion on an archived page so it seems a complex issue. This would be good to settle conclusively before things get more heated.
