The 2018 United States Senate election in Indiana will take place on November 6, 2018. Incumbent Democratic U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly is running for re-election to a second term.[1]
This race has been described by Politico as "possibly the GOP's best opportunity to seize a Senate seat from Democrats" in the 2018 elections.[2] The primary election for this Senate race is scheduled for May 8, 2018.[3]
Background
Incumbent Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly currently holds a 47%-26% approval rating among his constituents,[4] in a state in which President Donald Trump has an underwater approval of 41% who approve compared with 45% who disapprove.[5]
Donnelly is likely to face either Republican Todd Rokita or Luke Messer in the general election, who are expected to compete in a brutal and expensive primary battle for the GOP nomination.[6][7]
