A tag has been placed on Frank Spencer (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is a redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Thomas Morrissey (Jesuit)

Hi Tassedethe, I see that in September an editor called Zagred, I think, moved Thomas Morrissey (Historian) to Thomas Morrissey (Jesuit). You had put Historian in as a prep for disambiguation. I must say I was far better pleased with the former, but that might be my prejudices. It was as an author I had come across him. I notice that Zagred has frequently moved a page from Priest to Jesuit which I can understand, I suppose, but here I would be unhappy with it . He uses a very strange phrase explaining his edit as if there were some accepted norm when it is a Jesuit. As you are higher up the pecking order in Wikipedia, I thought I would raise it with you.Aineireland (talk) 22:54, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Aineireland. A couple of options for you. Firstly per WP:BRD Zagred Boldly moved the page, you could Revert and add a Talk page comment explaining why (the Discuss part). That would put the onus on Zagred to argue their reasons, or to move to a full WP:RM. Or you could go straight to WP:RM yourself. Per their move comment (Jesuit) is pretty common as a disambiguator but it's by no means universal, see for instance Category:Irish Jesuits. Hope that helps. Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well T. MarnetteD|Talk 21:46, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for creating the disambiguation page. I wonder if you can move the page to Jen Yung Lee instead? Three reasons:

  1. WP:NATURAL
  2. Personal preference: Facebook [1]
  3. More "correct" from a Chinese name's point-of-view; "Jen Yung" is a two-syllable Chinese given name

What do you think? Sinobball (talk) 07:12, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately I don't know much about Chinese given name orthography. But I do note that all the references in the articles use "Jen Lee", and none use "Jen Yung Lee". That would lead to *not* using Jen Yung Lee per WP:COMMONNAME:"Although official, scientific, birth, original, or trademarked names are often used for article titles, the term or name most typically used in reliable sources is generally preferred.". On that basis I wouldn't support moving the article to Jen Yung Lee. Sorry. Tassedethe (talk) 19:31, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tassedethe,

If you have any time, I would appreciate it if you could bring your knowledge to this discussion.

I was hoping to solve a problem of excessive deletionism which is based on poor arguments and evidence, but it's becoming the same go-nowhere debate as on the Deletion pages - it really needs an outside view.

Merge

Hi and thanks for catching the Ronald G/Gary Tompkins dup! Do you have any opinion about the best title to use as the merge target? I have only heard him referred to as Ron Tompkins, but the sources I saw seemed to use Ronald G. Tompkins—now I see some that say Gary though. Would welcome your thoughts, as I think that’s the only real question before merging—definitely the same person. Innisfree987 (talk) 23:19, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know anything about the guy but Ronald G. Tompkins seems to be on his profile. The other article references appear to be gone or just have him as a citation i.e. "Tompkins RG". Good luck! Tassedethe (talk) 23:24, 26 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, and thanks—it’s unfortunate so much of that entry is unverified or deadlinked now, I think I am likely going to have to redirect and then merge the content piece by piece as I can find time to look for new sources. Oof! Anyway thanks again for the catch. Cheers, Innisfree987 (talk) 00:14, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That is probably not speedyable per Wikipedia:Categories for discussion#C2D: Consistency with main article's name, as I did not move the article using a WP:RM. Speedy deletion nomination of Peter Christensen (badminton)

Hello, Tassedethe,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Xx236, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged Peter Christensen (badminton) for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Xx236}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!
