Not trying to forum shop but can some knowledgeable Japanese editors please review this article? I'm trying to improve it and there is a dispute. Portal banner wonton font

Crossposting for visibility because I think few people saw my other post. I posted this on Portal talk:Japan before.

The banner for Portal:Japan appears to use a wonton font. It's inconsistent whether or not this font bothers people (my guess is that most Japanese people probably wouldn't mind; these types of fonts are even sometimes used throughout Asia), but it may bother some. I'm not necessarily proposing that it be changed, just pointing it out to let people know it can be perceived this way. toobigtokale (talk) 10:06, 31 December 2023 (UTC)

Japanese Iraq Reconstruction and Support Group

Tokoyama etymology

Hello everyone, I recently rewrote the article on tokoyama but I find that the terminology section lacks a bit of substance and I must admit that I'd like to know why tokoya (床屋) came to be called tokoyama (床山). the sister project wiktionary has a pretty good dictionary, and you can use it to cross-reference kanji if it matters. (wikt:山 for example)If you want an external dictionary, you could use goo or jisho DarmaniLink (talk) 01:43, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

There are examples of the word in documents from the Edo Period, but a short search did not yield any real answers on the origin of the term in the major dictionaries. The kabuki usage seems to be older than the sumo one in the available sources. There is an explanation that the use of yama relates to having so many customers that they were like a mountain, but that sounds like a just-so story to me. I think that given the paucity of information available, adding any specific explanation of the etymology to the article would end up being original research. Dekimasuよ! 03:48, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Hello and thank you for your advice. I did come across this explanation but the source is more than dubious and my research hasn't turned up anything conclusive either. Suggested merger

I suggest the merger of sashimino in to nobori for the reason that sashimino is the a term for Japanese joinery it is better explained in this comment titled cabinetmaking https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sashimono#%E6%8C%87%E3%81%97%E7%89%A9_=_Cabinetmaking Space772 (talk) 03:41, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

I am not an expert on this subject, but I don't think the examples shown at Sashimono are actually Nobori. As the name nobori implies, they have to be long and thin. Another option (if we take for granted that all of these subjects are inherently "Japanese") would be to use Umajirushi for the material currently at Sashimono (cf. ja:馬印). However, it's also possible just to make a hatnote on the current Sashimono article if there is another article this is actually in conflict with. The word sashimono itself has both meanings.
