Talkback tags are unnecessary; when I post on a page, I watch it, so you can respond either there or here.

Lubrication

Speaking of lubrication, I'm sipping a mimosa while trying to educate with the carrot, rather than the stick. I need another mimosa! -- Flyguy649 talk 17:49, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We should leave a bottle of that in the washroom of Jimbo's Talk page, out of courtesy to future international visitors and newbies and such. :-) Oberonfitch (talk) 21:49, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong warning, maybe?

I noticed that you posted a generic warning on a user's talk page for vandalizing their own talk page. Reverting was correct, but I think it required something along the lines of blanking talk pages does not get rid of the warnings. Might be something useful to remember next time. Also, for technical reasons, the link to their talk page was also disabled because the viewer is already on the page. mechamind90 18:34, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment is interesting: I assumed he was an well-meaning child with no real idea of what WP is about, and was sighing (well, am still sighing) at the prospect of going through his edits and trying to explain what he was doing wrong. I will bear in mind what you say. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 18:01, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A well meaning child was my first impression, but I'm starting to think it is more along the lines of someone with a child's mind, sadly. Disruptive is disruptive and must be stopped, but let's tread lightly on what may be a poor soul.Njsustain (talk) 23:03, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"talk it out"

you serious? your blaming me? it takes two to do an edit war, that is my fault as well as his. but it's not my fault he wont listen. how can i talk to a guy who reverts my edits, and when i go to his talk page, threatens to report me. you think it's easy? Bread Ninja (talk) 19:13, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

if you don't care, and don't know anything about the situation, why bother to report any of us for something you aren't sure of? I can't talk to him, he will revert my post on his talk page and report me.

i could keep reverting my conversation until he reports me, or i could ignore you, either way. i'm getting reportedBread Ninja (talk) 19:20, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

just to let you know, threatening cop voice, is something I'm not going to stand. talk to me in a nicer, non threatening, tone. because that's being uncivil, and is something that could be reported for. just because someone had an edit war, doesn't mean you can't hear them out..Bread Ninja (talk) 15:44, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi HalfShadow, and thanks for your report of Dcatmusic to WP:UAA. I wanted to ask you if you could, in the future, place an appropriate {{db}} tag on spam pages rather than simply blanking them. It makes it much easier for us admins to find and delete that way. Thanks! Ioeth (talk contribs twinkle friendly) 21:50, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • While I agree that this particular editor is proving to be problematic, that does not excuse inappropriate comments about his ethnicity like yours referenced above or that you recently made to AN/I. Please, let's keep to the issues of his conduct (which there's plenty enough misconduct of his to talk about, alas). —C.Fred (talk) 23:22, 26 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Which simply proves the theory that the internet has no shortage of weirdos.  :) I just requested a CU on what is almost definitely a MascotGuy copycat. Not only am I dealing with a copycat, but I got chewed out by another user (rightfully so, I admit) for putting some nasty remarks about MG on previous CU requests. You think I made up those titles?!!

ExCUSE me. Those titles were copied directly off tvguide.ca. I did not invent them. There will eventually be entries on those episodes, and you will kindly tell me the gross, deadly harm that is done by listing the titles pending the filling out of the details on those episodes.

If you don't believe me, then go to www.tvguide.ca, do a search on Backyardigans and you will see those episodes as coming up in the next 14 days.

[1]

There's a link right to the information I saw, (though of course, updated since that date).

I expect you to tell me why you think those upcoming episodes should not at least have their titles listed. GBC (talk) 14:55, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Schools

You wrote that "I've always felt identified school-IPs should be soft-blocked on sight." I agree. Has this been proposed before? If not, we could give a go at getting approval for this, schools are responsible for a lot of the more nasty vandalism. Fences&Windows 23:17, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Had to kill your CSD, I'm afraid. Web Archive shows that the site http://www.perpetualdalta.edu.ph does not appear until Mid 2006, and part of that data was already on the Wikipedia page, and it looks like the http://www.perpetualdalta.edu.ph in its current version did not appear on the web until at least 2008, when most of the Wikipedia page was already written - hard to guess an exact date as the actual web page has never been archived - may be because it's less than 6 months old - so for now I had to use the root page - http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.perpetualdalta.edu.ph. I may be wrong, it's always hard to check for copyvio on long established pages  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:41, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A better reply

Hi. I think I was overly dismissive of your concerns yesterday at WQA. More than one person (i.e., not just yourself) brought this to my attention at my talk page, and I have addressed this matter by expanding considerably, I think, on what can be done regarding the behavior of an editor such as Mr. Fatuorum. In particular, if you look at my reply to Padillah, the one with the timestamp "15:07, 2 June 2010 (UTC)", I think I may have addressed the questions you were aptly bringing up.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. -GTBacchus(talk) 16:34, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer granted

You have been granted the 'reviewer' userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. –xenotalk 13:33, 15 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Your indefinite block is re-instated

I will not template you, as I am sure you know how to use the unblock template. I haven't looked into this too deeply, following your comments at ANI, but if you were indef blocked for personal attacks I presume that you gave some sort of undertaking not to indulge in such behaviour. That you did is regrettable, but the response you gave at ANI gives no hope that is was a passing aberration. The community has previously indicated it will not tolerate this behaviour, regardless of the good work you otherwise do. I suggest you consider the propriety of your recent actions. LessHeard vanU (talk) 18:28, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You presume incorrectly:
  • 11:50, 24 April 2010 Scott MacDonald (talk | contribs) blocked HalfShadow (talk | contribs) (account creation blocked) with an expiry time of 1 week ‎ (Violations of the Biographies of living persons policy)

My unblock had no bearing on what had it extended, only the original block reason.

Nonetheless, good for you: that'll show me for reverting vandalism and stuff. HalfShadow 19:54, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It would be helpful if blocking administrators provided a link to whatever it was they believe justifies their action. Ought to be mandatory really. Malleus Fatuorum 20:08, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've dug out the unblock discussion for LHvU's benefit, and posted over at ANI. I do think you ought to 'watch yer gob', and if it were me I'd probably stick you on ice until the discussion had finished (because Loosmark is going to not succeed very badly anyway), but I don't think a reinstated indef is appropriate, as the indef wasn't for personal attacks per se.Elen of the Roads (talk) 22:00, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've also disagreed with the block (it was a snide and rude little comment not worthy of you though) but pointed out the obvious that you'll be unblocked shortly anyway. Pedro :  Chat  22:11, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I will, in no way make an agreement or promise to such an extent that I will promise I may not be rude in future. The second I do that, you'll look for the smallest excuse to use it against me, and I'm not nearly stupid enough to give you such an opening. The best you'll get from me is an apology. HalfShadow 17:15, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Consensus is that your indefinite block was a clear overreaction, and misinterpreted as a second offense. As such, a few days have passed, and I'm unblocking you. However, I would like to offer a strong reminder that your comment was not all right, and it passed the boundary of personal attacks. I urge you to refrain from such comments in the future.

We live in strange times, and administrators routinely target those editors they take a dislike to. Earlier this evening I saw one editor call another a cunt,[2] with no comment from the civility police. Go figure. Like you HalfShadow, I get blocked for even hinting that another editor may be one card short of a full deck. Malleus Fatuorum 01:32, 19 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, welcome back. Just a couple of matters, I reinstated this ( 21:16, 24 April 2010 Sandstein (talk | contribs | block) changed block settings for HalfShadow (talk | contribs) with an expiry time of indefinite (account creation blocked) ‎ (Personal attacks or harassment: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:HalfShadow&diff=prev&oldid=358080648)) indefinite block, being the last one previously in your block log. You will note that it was in respect of personal attacks. Secondly, have we interacted before? I only sort of recognised the account name, but then I have been around long enough for many editors names to have passed before my eyes - long enough to know that Malleus Fatuorum (who I do know, because I usually misspell his name Factuorum) is not always correct in his assumptions; I do not dislike you, because I don't know you. Lastly (I know I said only a couple of things, but...) I did not require any promises, I just said you should look at the way you do things. Anyhoo, welcome back. You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for your disruption caused by edit warring and violation of the three-revert rule at Floyd Mayweather, Jr.. During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Nothing in those edits qualified as an exemption under the WP:3RR, and you made four reverts. Further, you used rollback to do it, instead of discussing it with the other user. The edits wern't helpful, but they weren't "obvious vandalism – edits which any well-intentioned user would immediately agree constitute vandalism, such as page blanking and adding offensive language." either. Courcelles (talk) 02:52, 31 July 2010 (UTC) (ETA: You also need to be very careful about using rollback in such cases. Rollback is for obvious vandalism, not possibly well-intentioned but wrong edits, which is what I think this was.)[reply]
Sure, I admit to that. But it wasn't to 'keep the version I want' (which is the case in many examples of edit warring), so much as 'reverting what appeared to be an unhelpful edit'. All I was doing was trying to keep the page 'tidy', that's all. I have a very 'mechanical' method of dealing with edits I see: Are they vandalism? Revert. Are they legitimate? Leave alone. Are they a mess like this? Consider and choose. HalfShadow 02:56, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That was my fault; as the edits by this user to iOS jailbreaking were essentially vandalism in nature, I just continued using rollback to revert their continuing edits to the other article. I'm generally more careful with rollback. HalfShadow 05:08, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Unblocked. I'm exhausted and going to bed, but continuing this block serves no useful purpose. You need to be more mindful of 3RR and rollback use in the future, but the fsct you have never edited the article in question before speaks to this being a series of mistakes in judgment than an edit war over content, I removed the unblock template, copying and pasting doesn't work well on the tablet PC, and this gets you out of CAT:RFU. Blocks, and all us admins had to recite at RFA are to prevent damage to the encyclopaedia, not to punish users, and this one is not doing that st this time. Incivility

Calling another editor "Captain Wikidrama" was not really helpful. Please try to refrain next time. Thanks. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 18:54, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

LOL thank you!

"Oh you did NOT just template me"-I love it, made my day! :)--Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 04:10, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ass is back...

Sorry about the "diva moment." Been having some nice talks with other users off-wiki and it seems that I have the information I need to possibly put an end to this situation once and for all. No way I'm going to let some semi-literate mental case on a library computer drive me off again. Thanks for the ass-kicking.  :) --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:01, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK Shadows, I can admit when I was wrong, apparently the message was received in the spirit in which it was intended. Beeblebrox (talk) 15:08, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Tell you what: It's nice knowing that Jimbo is now involved. This same guy has been harassing him nonstop. I've already reported this to the proper authorities. In fact, the pathetic little loser just tried screwing around at Eflightwiki again. I simply blocked him, reverted his edits, locked down the pages and walked away. I'd love to egg him on, but he's simply too pathetic and hopelessly lost an individual for me to waste my time on. Best I can do is to dodge and parry and pray. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:36, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're right on the money. I'd done that knee-jerk retirement not so much for him as for the fact I felt abandoned by well-meaning users citing protocol. I really think we might just make some real strides in getting this guy blocked and banned for good; he apparently doesn't even own a computer and uses public resources. I've made several e-mail inquiries and I'll follow up with phone calls if I get no response. In a way, I pity him now that I know more about him. His mind is just blown; there are indications that he isn't a child but a poor, sick adult. Now that I have admin rights at Eflightwiki, I can just block him there and walk away. That site's owner is aware of the fact and has been very helpful. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 23:11, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As you commented in the pending closure discussion I am notifying you that the Wikipedia:Pending changes/Vote comment is now open and will be for two weeks, discussion as required can continue on the talkpage. Thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 23:12, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps a level 4 warning would have been sufficient, and not an immediate indefblock? See User_talk:DavidAppletree#Suggestion -- Avi (talk) 23:46, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Since he wasn't actually blocked, he may think he can get away with more. I think this is better, do you mind that I changed it to {{uw-npa4im}}? -- Avi (talk) 23:51, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My mistake. I left a message for the blocking admin, but I am not going to unblock him myself. I will leave it up to that admin. Sorry about troubling you. -- Avi (talk) 23:54, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ibrahimovic

Just checked into the AC Milan website: Ibrahimovic was actually assigned #11 as jersey number, whereas Robinho will have #70. (see here, it is in Italian however) The club seems like having forgotten having updated the squad page, however... --Angelo (talk) 20:30, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I assume they'll update the page by tomorrow, in the meantime we have a source confirming Ibrahimovic will play with #11 number, so we can use it as a reference. If you agreed with that, I would also appreciate if you might leave a comment also in the semi-protection request you have filed minutes ago. Thanks, --Angelo (talk) 20:35, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I already did it. Thanks for your help, --Angelo (talk) 20:39, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:35, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I can tell, neither User:Smartse nor User:Prosfilaes was given a 3RR warning. I'm going to warn them instead of blocking them. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 22:21, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
