AeroGal (Spanish acronym: Aerolíneas Galápagos S.A.) is an airline based in Quito, Ecuador. It operates passenger and cargo flights within Ecuador, between the mainland and the Galápagos Islands, and between Ecuador to Miami, and Colombia.
History
AeroGal was established in 1986.
Through a commercial agreement between AeroGal and Synergy Group (Avianca, OceanAir, VIP) the airline will receive new airplanes that will allow the start of new destinations. International destinations as Los Angeles, Milan, Madrid, Lima and Panama are being considered.
The agreement includes code sharing on national routes between AeroGal and VIP (Lago Agrio, Francisco de Orellana, Salinas).
Merger with Avianca and TACA
In October 2009, AeroGal announced its merger with the Colombian airline Avianca, and the Salvadoran airline TACA.[1] AeroGal will continue to operate under their own brand but shares its assets with the other airlines.
Avianca currently owns the majority of the airline with more than 81% acquired, which forced Avianca to make a large investment of U.S. $ 7.2 million to strengthen and modernize the company AeroGal patrimonial. Despite the purchase by Avianca, AeroGal will continue using its separate identity and will continue to operate in Ecuador.
Destinations
AeroGal operates services to the following scheduled destinations (as of July 2010):
North America
South America
Fleet
AeroGal will receive 5 Airbus planes throughout 2010, one every month starting in January. It will receive a combination of Airbus A320s and A319s to replace its Boeing 737s. In the present it's the first Ecuadorian airline after the now defunct Ecuatoriana de Aviación to offer non-stop routes to New York and Miami.
