Adnan Al-Aroor was dishonorably discharged from the Syrian Army during his service as a volunteer lieutenant in field artillery, December 1971, because of acts of sodomy & forcing soldiers to have gay sex with him in a very conservative country, Syria and within its Army, which is illegal and earned him a 2 months prison and dishonorable discharge from the Army.{{cn|date=October 2011}}
