Status: Active. bd2412 T

Dispute resolution clause: By posting on my user talk page, you agree to resolve all disputes that may arise from your interactions with me through the dispute resolution processes offered within the Wikipedia Community. BD2412

Note: If you are visiting to express concerns because I have edited your user page to fix a disambiguation link, please bear in mind:
  1. I assume that you have the link there because you wish to point readers to the proper term (e.g "I speak Greek" or "I am Greek").
  2. It makes it much easier for those of us who are cleaning up disambiguation links from articles if there are fewer user pages cluttering up the "What links here" page.
Cheers! BD2412

Immage uploads

Do you still do image uploads? I've got one that I think will be useful: An SSN card from someone I can proove is dead, and so can be published without having to be censored like the one currently on the page. 76.117.247.55 (talk) 20:22, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Yes, but you'll need to wait a while - I'm busy with something else for the next few hours. Cheers! bd2412 T 21:49, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Just let me know on my talk page when you're ready. 76.117.247.55 (talk) 01:51, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

3D film

Hi, as you go about your AWB clean up work on 3D film, I thought I should point out to you that the link you have been adding, to 3-D film, is merely a redirect to 3D film. thanks, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 17:40, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Images

These are the files: Image:SSN-1943.png, Image:SSN-supplimental.png. Both are {{PD-USGov}}. You can check the SSN and name through any online copy of the SSDI, such as this one: [1]. These images should be able to replace the current censored image on the SSN page. Thanx, 76.117.247.55 (talk) 21:32, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Okay - give me a few minutes. Cheers! bd2412 T 21:35, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
I downloaded the images, but unfortunately I get an error report when I try to access that page of the familysearch.org website. I need to be able to see the sourcing information to upload the images to Commons. bd2412 T 00:36, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Familysearch is just to proove that the person/SSN is dead, unfortunately their URIs aren't persistent so I can't do a direct link. The source is me. Any SSDI website will show that that number belongs to a deceased person. Since people are (correctly) fussy about privacy here, I wanted to be able to show proof of that. 76.117.247.55 (talk) 02:06, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Any developments? 76.117.247.55 (talk) 14:30, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I thought I was waiting for something from you. I don't think the source can be you, since you are not the author of these documents. Did you get these from that familysearch website? bd2412 T 17:22, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
I personally scanned them in. If the source isn't me, it's the SSA as the designer and/or the GPO as printer. Either way they're PD-USGov. 76.117.247.55 (talk) 03:07, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
I'll figure this out tonight. Cheers! bd2412 T 16:16, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Now uploaded as File:PD social security card.png and File:PD social security card 2.png. Cheers! bd2412 T 04:17, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanx dude. 76.117.247.55 (talk) 17:22, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:08, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

So where are you?

I'm having lunch out on the balcony. 302 next. R'n'B (call me Russ) 17:01, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

I am at work, which happens to be across the street from the White House. I'm taking a day off tomorrow so I'll be at the convention for the next three days. bd2412 T 17:25, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
I've got you beat; my office is exactly 3 blocks from Marvin Center. :-). Not sure what my schedule is tomorrow but I'll get over there at some point. R'n'B (call me Russ) 17:44, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

I'm going to ask you to intervene now, please. He's reverted substantive edits of the citations (as done here [2]) and appears to be intentionally misreading Story to support his own viewpoint. I've made another edit, but who knows how long that will last with this guy? -- Foofighter20x (talk) 21:12, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, my friend, but that will have to wait until Wikimania is over. bd2412 T 12:25, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

I noticed that an IP editor recently made a change to the List of federal judges appointed by Barack Obama article, wherein the background color for judicial candidates that had been reported from committee, but not yet confirmed, was changed to purple. I am not sure that this is an entirely helpful change, but rather than revert it myself, I thought I would ask for a second opinion from another editor involved in WP USCJ. Thanks. Safiel (talk) 18:08, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

I should note that I changed the IP editors choice of Barney purple to a less flamboyant silver. Safiel (talk) 06:21, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
I am fine with using a different color to distinguish nominees who are at a different stage in the process, so long as someone keeps up with where they are in it. bd2412 T 17:41, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
I will go ahead and leave it as is. Thanks. Safiel (talk) 21:40, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Changing "Image" to "File"

Hi. On the principal of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", it's really not necessary to change "Image" to "File" in image descriptors. Both words work exactly the same, and there's no indication that "Image" is going to stop working anytime soon (and if it does, a bot can make the changes en masse). As it is, if you make that change, it causes the article to pop on on people's watchlists, and they have to take the time to check out what the change is, only to find a needless edit. Thanks. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:12, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Actually, I'm fixing disambiguation links. The Image --> File change is just part of the setup, along with a few other common fixes that I implement while fixing the disambigs. Cheers! bd2412 T 17:40, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Newly added disambiguation pages

So, this isn't ready for prime time yet, but please take a look at this page when you get a chance, and give me your opinion. Do you like the sortable table format, or would you prefer a paginated list like Jason's tools present? --R'n'B (call me Russ) 18:26, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

I like sortability, but in terms of grabbing entries that are on my AWB list, I only need them to be in Wikipedia space. bd2412 T 19:55, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
OK, then, Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links/The Daily Disambig/Recently added. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 15:02, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
Oh yes, that will do. bd2412 T 16:13, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

"Masterpiece Museum" Edit-a-Thon at the Smithsonian American Art Museum

The Smithsonian American Art Museum and Wikimedia DC present the "Masterpiece Museum" Edit-a-Thon. Drawing from their vast vaults of art, the caretakers of the Smithsonian American Art Museum have meticulously drawn forth canvas jewels to import into Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia articles. The museum directors and staff are excited about this project, and would love to have experienced Wikimedians help in the effort! Kirill [talk] 17:56, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Particulates

Following me asking for advice on whether particulates should be a disambiguation page another used made it a disambiguation page. Now however, you have added a tag saying it is not suitable as disambiguation page. Would you be willing to debate this with them over at Talk:Particulates ? Thanks.--NHSavage (talk) 17:40, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

A bowl of strawberries for you!

Thanks for making me feel less lonely over on particulates. Strawberries are particularly nice at this time of year NHSavage (talk) 19:30, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Indef

May I? This is a purely disruptive, even incompetent editor. Drmies (talk) 03:12, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

I think most of the edits made by this author have been efforts at simplification and rearranging of articles. Granted, he's introduced some fairly basic spelling and grammar errors, and has changed the basic meaning of sentences without changing the source identified, even though that source does not stand for the rewritten content. However, I don't think that it's clear that he is trying to be malicious. I suggest we give him a little more leeway and see if we can't bring some productiveness out of him. Cheers! bd2412 T 03:16, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
Good luck with it then... I see various types of incompetence and a terrible battleground mentality. Drmies (talk) 03:17, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
A little more leeway. I've offered some guidance on this user's talk page. If he continues his current pattern of behavior, further measures will be in order. I'm still not sure an indefblock is called for. Maybe he's young and can outgrow his current predilections in the course of a few months or a year. bd2412 T 03:27, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
In any case, it seems that this user has selected himself out. Cheers! bd2412 T 03:33, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm sorry I turned out to be right. Happy days, Drmies (talk) 19:23, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

The article Campaign bus has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Poorly sourced

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dabfix

Hello, how are you fixing dab links? I am using dabfix, but, I am not getting points. For example if I fix dab of "Tamil" in 20 pages, I am getting only 1 point (for the first fix only), thus my points are much much less than it should be! --Tito Dutta 13:31, 26 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm not doing anything special, so it may be that there is still some lag in the list of fixes being reported. bd2412 T 15:52, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
I think the point Titodutta may be missing is that you only get points for fixing links to disambig pages that are on either the Monthly list or the Bonus list. Tamil isn't on either list this month. But of course, Titodutta, you're still helping improve Wikipedia by fixing these links, whether you get points for them or not. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 01:30, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
Of course, there is that. bd2412 T 01:31, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
I think the point Titodutta may be missing is... That's why my points are much much lower. See this edit– 105 dabs in one edit, and 0 point most probably! :) --Tito Dutta 02:52, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
Actually, with than number of disambig fixes, I would be surprised if at least some of them were not on the Bonus list. bd2412 T 03:16, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
I imagine so. One can see exactly which edits Titodutta got points for here. R'n'B (call me Russ) 10:51, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

Confession

I see that you turned Confession into an article. The problem is, there are still a whole lot of of links that got to Confession when they should be going to Confession (religion). It's a lot easier to fix those with the disambiguation tools, so should be leave it as a disambiguation page until all the incoming links are fixed? StAnselm (talk) 23:28, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Good point, but the broad concept really should be an article. I'll go ahead and fix those links with AWB right after dinner. Cheers! bd2412 T 23:41, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Backstage at the Smithsonian Libraries is part of Wikipedia Loves Libraries 2012, the second annual continent-wide campaign to bring Wikipedia and libraries together with on-site events. Running this fall through October and November, libraries (and archives) will open their doors to help build a lasting relationship with their local Wikipedian community.

Organized by Wikimedia DC, this event will take place on October 12, 2012, and will include new editor training, a "backstage pass" tour of the National Museum of Natural History, and an edit-a-thon. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Non-free rationale for File:Plouhar.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Plouhar.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 14:17, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Fixed, thanks. The fair use rationale was provided in the summary, but was not presented in a template. bd2412 T 16:00, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for edits, and a request

Thanks for your edits to my United States v. Knotts entries on 9/20/12. That was my first entry. Just made more comprehensive entries to United States v. Jones (2012). Could you please look over it? Thanks Rybkovich (talk) 05:36, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

I ran across your edit of David William Hutchison. I couldn't find any evidence on line to support the thought that he received the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal. This website indicates that he received the Army Distinguished Service Medal back in 1945. And the article at this link confirms that he had the medal in 1951. The Air Force Distinguished Service Medal was not established until 1960. I wanted to check with you though before I change it. Thank you. SchreiberBike (talk) 20:13, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

I was probably in error, then. I assumed that the medal received would correspond to the branch of service of the recipient, so changed all the disambig links for Air Force personnel to the Air Force medal. bd2412 T 20:23, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
