According to 2009 Census Lari has a population of 123,895 people. Lari is located forty kilometers from Nairobi Kenya along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway. Lari is is a rural constituency. Majority residents are from Kikuyu tribe.

It main economic activities are agriculture where it is known well to be the main suppler of kale's in the capital Nairobi an Mombasa. The constituency has two major daily kale market one located at Uplands in Lari Ward and another one at Kinale Township. Daily farming is also highly practiced in the constituency

== History ==
Lari existed as as part of the large Limuru constituency until 1966 when it was gazetted as a constituency of its own.

Lari history is scarcely documented. It is said that the name Lari is derived from a Maasai language. the name was in reference to its cold environment.

During the 19th century Lari was a back-up grazing ground for the Maa Community. Due to its cold nature, the area used to be green through out the year. The Maa community used to frequently to graze in the lands during the dry seasons at the base of the Rift Valley.

Lari has a total area of 439.20 squire Kilometers. The area is largely mountainous. Part of Lari forms the escarpments of the Great Rift valley between Gitithia and Kijabe locations. Rukuma view poin in Lari of the escarpment forms the highest peak of the rift valley along the Nairobi-Nakuru Section the Nairobi and Nakuru Lari forms part of the escarpments.

Lari is a largely forested with Uplands Forest, Kireita Forest, Kinale forest, Kamae forest and large part of the Kikuyu Escarpment Forest.

Lari is relatively cold and receive considerable amount of rainfall per year. The area is extremely cold because of its location on the windward side of the cold Aberdare Ranges. The area also forms as the peak of the Great Rift Valley standing at 1,400m of the rift valley. This made the area to be green through out the year, thus Maasais frequented the area to graze their cattle in this area.
