Michael Jackson Relationship

HI in the section about his relationship with Michael Jackson, there are lots of things that can be included, such as:

he remixed, produced and sang in the song "Wanna Be Startin' Something 2008" from Jackson's album "Thriller 25".

In 2008 Akon recorded an original new song with Michael Jackson called "Hold My Hand" which was supposed to be released on his newest album but ended not being released at all, instead leaking to the internet and becoming one of the most popularly played on youtube and downloaded new tracks.

Controversy Section

It's odd there isn't anything about how most of Akon's stories of imprisonment were fabricated and that now the article is blocked from editing. It really isn't fair to people who do have "Controversy" sections in their uneditable articles. I read this after seeing him toss that kid and it's really pretty bizarre... http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2008/0416081akon1.html

I agree, it's pretty much Wikipedia tradition for celebrities to have a controversies (or similar) section, when there are controversies known. Hell just look at Noel Gallagher! --Tukogbani (talk) 16:44, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, there should be mention that there are people claiming that he cennot sing at all. 17:17, 17 October 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.73.49.65 (talk)

Who ever thinks akon is lying about doing prison time there wrong. He did time at mountain view youth correctional facility which deals with inmates ranging in age from 18 to 30. He came up with the song locked up while he was there. I know this because the officer on his work detail said he would never shut up and stop singing it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.142.55.111 (talk) 20:41, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Addition to section "Projects with other artists"

Akon has been collaboration with international artists in 2009. Here is my addition:

  • In April 2009 was released the new single of Taiwan rapper Wilber Pan's, "Be with You", featuring Akon, via Taiwan's Hit FM radio station[1]

The single is great, it deserves a mention! he is the best singer ever born no one is better but marcus everyone else is shit as you crap artist

JohnADean (talk) 21:09, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think it is also worth noting that he released a single with Lebanese artist Melissa. The single is titled "Yalli Naseeni". Akon met Melissa after his last Lebanese concert in Beirut and mentioned he might collaborate further with her. This should definitely be mentioned. Ramarisho (talk) 15:51, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He also has a single with enrique iglesias, "One Day at a Time"... an amazing song, btw. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.69.130.3 (talk) 23:28, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Akon is a Jehovahs Witness?

If anyone has Akon's newest album, the booklet inside will include a special thanks section. Can anyone confirm this please? Many Judeo-Christian religions and sects refer to their God as Jehova. This is doesn't necessary mean that Akon is a Jehova's witness. He might be -- I have no information either way -- but the text you've quoted is not strong evidence at all. The above statement (if true) would conflict with the idea that he is Muslim, I think. Although Islam is an "Abrahamic" religion - it is not a "Judeo-Christian" one. From my understanding, Islam regards Mohammed (PBUH) as their highest prophet - not Jesus or Jehova.

"Jehova" is what some consider the proper name of God, so you can't really say any religion regards Jehova as a prophet.

Reviving the name debate

I went through and read through the archived name debate from last year and want to revive this issue since the current text does a very poor job of representing the debate. Although Akon has claimed his full name is the very long version, there are contradictory legal documents linked to from the article and some healthy incredulity among Senegalese. I think we should shorten the name to the part everyone agrees to in the info box and change the text to explain that the long version is what Akon has told people as opposed to a factual statement that it is his name -- something that is debated. Take a look at my edits and reply here. —mako 15:23, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Although Akon was born into a Muslim family, he does not currently practice it. He may well be a Jehovah's witness and I can confirm that in the special thank you section of his latest album he says this; "THANK YOU : THE ALMIGHTY JEHOVAH". If he is not a Jehovah's witness, there would seem to be little point in him saying this unless of course it is for political or social reasons. I have lived in Dakar, Senegal and I know some members of his family (I am a musician) and they say that he does not practice Islam at all. Although Senegal is supposed to be 85% + muslim, most young people do not practice and they often refer to Islam as an old mans religion. High Schools

I find it pertinent to list the high schools Akon attended. Many individuals who have Wikipedias have this information listed. He attended Snyder High School in Jersey City and Bayonne High School in neighboring Bayonne, NJ CITY AND POOSEY CITY

Date of Birth

According to Forbes.com[2], New York records have Akon's birthdate as April 30, 1973. Why is his birthdate not on his Wikipedia page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Winstonwolf33 (talkcontribs) 17:12, 9 August 2009

This page says April 16, 1977.
IMDB[3] also says April 30, 1973.
About.com[4],akonfan.com[5] and akon-fan.com[6] says October 14, 1981. - Kasperh (talk) 12:05, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Claims?

We are really quoting About.com?! That is the stupidest source ever, worse than Wikipedia, no wonder you can't use this site as a source in school. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.101.18.28 (talk) 01:18, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why does this article say "Akon claims he has six children three different women in an interview with Blender.[15] Akon claims to have great relationships with all his children, and that he wishes to keep his family protected from the public eye. Why is the word "claims" used in those two sentences? is there some question as to the validity of who his family is? If so where is the source? If it was any other wiki page sourcing a first person interview would the word 'claims' be used? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.27.54.4 (talk) 16:54, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

simple grammar error in the first paragraph

"has produced many hits for artist such"- should be "has produced many hits for artists such"

"Racy dance"

I changed the article, because I think saying "racy dance" is really an understatement and not descriptive. A person not familiar with the incident might think Michael Jackson, Madonna, Brittney Spears -- that kind of thing. Not even Adam Lambert's perfomance in 2009 was like this, and I think most neutral observers and uncensored writers, given two sentences or more to describe the event (which Wikipedia articles certainly have the space for), would mention that it included a simulated sex act.

The event shown here is quite a bit more than any of those listed above. In fact, I struggle to find one portion of the video that would even be dancing. Maybe 0:46 - 0:47 could be considered simulated sex with dancing, but I think the rest is just simulated sex, and actually pretty rough looking. I don't see any step pattern(e.g., slow, slow, quick, quick) that looks like any dance, and though I've seen some pretty "racy" bumping/grinding/"freakin'" dancing in some clubs, I've never seen people doing this on the floor at any club I've been to.

If we're going to take two paragraphs to describe the reaction to the event and the consequences, we might as well give a fuller description of the actual event itself. Ufwuct (talk) 15:24, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

HITLAB

I want to put HITLAB.com, his digital records, on his label information. Someone should please update the information about this?

This is the text I want to put : In September 2008, Akon launched HITLAB.com, an online community where aspiring artists can promote and sell their music and eventually get signed by konvict or another label. The site offers proprietary technology that predicts whether or not a song has the potential to be a hit. "It was announced in late 2009 that Akon's fourth studio album, Akonic, was set for release in the first quarter of 2010. However, following managerial commitments to other artists, work on the album has not been completed. It was suggested that this would push the album's release back to 2011. However, this was proven false as the album will actually be released on November 29, 2010" Seems convoluted. Middle sentence is redundant. His shimmering, soulful voice has propelled countless hits across genres …

Could someone apply a bit of basic WP:PEACOCK and WP:NPOV filering to the public relations cut-and-paste in the article's first paragraph, quoted above? At the very least, this artist's works cannot be “countless” if there are other Wikipedia pages at “Akon discography” and “Akon production discography” which count them. And regardless of whether this singer's voice is truly “shimmering [and] soulful”, citing the listener who offered that description would be nice.

Is copyright an issue here? Some or all of the lead paragraph of the Wikipedia article also appears on these sites:

Restored content that was covertly removed by User:Akonjignal, an apparent SPA. The content was removed here without explanation. The same account has tried to blank entire sections before. I say we should watch out for this kind of editing. I think I will review the history of this account's edits once I get some free time. Cheers,

Fraudulant

While prison, court, and corrections records show that Akon has been arrested six times, he has only ever been Konvicted of one felony.

A 1998 gun possession charge in New Jersey. After pleading guilty, the supposed self proclaimed thug got a sentence of three years probation, with no county or state jail term. That same year he was arrested in Dekalb county, Georgia for possessing a stolen automobile. He was held at a county jail for a few sparse months and released when all charges were dropped. This information is free to all via the federal freedom of information act, feel free to verify the fact that Aliaune Thiam has forged a false and fraudulant past in order to have what hwe saw was necessary to be successful in the hip hop industry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.226.35.122 (talk) 17:11, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. The sentence was worded really strangely anyway. Please let me know if there's anything else. Charles35 (talk) 14:30, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth USA not Senegal?

I think we should change birthplace from Saint-Louis, Senegal to St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

In an interview, he stated he was born in St. Louis and that his parents ensured he was "born in the States". http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1501105/akon-trouble-no-more.jhtml

On his biography at his charity's website it is also stated he was born in St. Louis and that his mother also moved to the St. Louis, Missouri area in 1972: http://www.konfidence.org/aboutus.html

Forbes article states "What's fairly certain is that Akon was born in St. Louis, Mo., sometime in the past 40 years and spent much of his childhood in the West African country of Senegal": http://www.forbes.com/2009/07/08/akon-hip-hop-music-business-entertainment-cash-kings-akon.html

NY Daily News article states he was born in St. Louis before moving to Senegal: https://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music-arts/rapper-akon-matures-new-album-freedom-article-1.356383

His father's wikipedia page states that he moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1968: Mor_Thiam

Are there any better sources to contradict this?

This page is also linked by several St. Louis, Missouri-related groups/lists on wikipedia which are all wrong if he was not born in the USA.

Updated/Nicer Pictures

I have uploaded a number of nicer photos of Akon which are more updated. 1. 2007 @ Nickelodeon 20th Annual kids choice awards. 2. @Miss USA 2012 in Las Vegas and 3. @ 2009 Billboard Latin Music Awards. Need to change the lead picture. Its not nice. The above photos are much better. And who put that other picture down there? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Deblaze22 (talkcontribs) 04:25, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with your upload is copyright. The files are neither your own work - as you claimed with uploading them - nor published under a free license by the coypright holder. Konvict Muzik Template

I created a "Konvict Muzkik" Template and added it to Akon's Wikipedia article. I added the code to show the template in its expanded state. I wanted to add the code to show the "Akon" template in its expanded state but want to get permission from you guys. versace1608 (talk) 17:40, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Neither templates should be expanded, in the cases where there are more than one navbox in an article, they should all be collapsed. More often than not the navboxes should always be collapsed, but having it expanded on the subject of the navbox (Konvict Muzik) is just fine. Please change the very first line of the article from "Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Bongo Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam[1] (born April 16, 1973) ..." to "Aliaune Damala Akon Thiam (born April 16, 1973) ..."

The current long name listed is transcribed from an interview on Ellen, and seems extremely unlikely to be the correct spelling, and honestly seems like someone making fun of his long name. It would be better to write his name as the shortened version, which according to the "Early Life" section is how he refers to himself, unless documents showing the full long name in writing can be found. 50.161.117.252 (talk) 04:46, 29 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
