The Parliament of Somaliland consists of two chambers:

The current speakership position was established in the 1990s, following the formation of the Somaliland polity. Since August 2017 Bashe Mohamed Farah is the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Somaliland, replacing Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi. [1] [2] He also serves as the chairman of the Waddani Party, which is one of the three political parties in the Somaliland region.

Somaliland is expected to hold parliamentary elections in March 27, 2017. These elections are expected to replace the 10 year parliament which had been sitting since 2005.

The 2005 parliament was elected by universal mandate of registered voters, and with the current registration drive for 2017 nearing completion, the voter rolls are expected to exceed those of 2005.
