== Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics page nominated for speedy deletion ==
Hi Cwmhiraeth, can you please explain why the page was deleted? The reasons listed are violation of copyright (there is a URL included -- is this the source of violation?) and advertisement (it is not, it is am article about a professional association, it has numerous references to outside sources, including several Wiki pages. Please help. I am new to Wiki (returning after a long hiatus), and I have worked on this page for a long time after it was once already deleted (the problem was that it was missing references, which I painstakingly provided). What can I do to improve it and how can I retreive the deleted draft to improve it? thank you.

Leech

We haven't done a juicy pest for a while ... I think Leech would be suitable as it's a famous animal with plenty to say. The current article isn't too bad but will benefit from a bit of attention. Hope you'll join me in taking it to GA. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:38, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:31, 27 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Chiswick Chap: Three paragraphs in the Reproduction and development section were added in July 2011 by Danielkueh, who I see still edits occasionally, and who improved the article considerably at the time. I think these paragraphs are too detailed for this general article on leeches and suggest we hive them off into a separate article. My Invertebrate Zoology has some good, more general information on leech larval development which I would propose adding instead. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:34, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, move them out. Chiswick Chap (talk) 12:26, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My name was pinged to this discussion. I don't have much to add. It has been a while since I have edited the leech article. My current involvement with wikipedia is limited to simple edits and copyediting. So if I can help in that way, let me know. Otherwise, do what you think is best. :) danielkueh (talk) 14:51, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. The article Leech embryogenesis has been created, and there is information on its talk page providing attribution for the article. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:55, 1 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was about to revise the "Nervous system" section when I saw you had written it yesterday. It does not agree in all respects with my Invertebrate Zoology. I intend next to write a bit about the body wall, coelom, gas exchange and excretion, which I will add to the "Anatomy and physiology" section for the time being. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:16, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Good work, and thanks for tidying the refs. I'm beginning to think it's easier to start afresh rather than relying on anybody else's claimed facts and half-filled in, half-flaky references. I think we're about ready now? Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:26, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think we are about ready. Do you want to nominate it or shall I? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:29, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Go right ahead. Chiswick Chap (talk) 09:43, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I was just looking around. Do you fancy Cestoda? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:49, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Ursine tree-kangaroo

On 3 May 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ursine tree-kangaroo, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ursine tree-kangaroo. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ursine tree-kangaroo), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Congo A Political Tragedy

What you deleted on that page was my own words, I've honestly had it up to my limits with WIKI, First I was accused of using a copyrighted poster and now it's the synopsis that I wrote myself. Delete that page is it's too much of an hassle, I'm done with Wiki and done with trying to always justify myself.Kadimina (talk) 15:46, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Kadimina: It is hard to reconcile your statement with the fact that the words you used in the Wikipedia article were identical to this website which is used as a reference in your article. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:11, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough! the words on that site you cited, is actually a festival that I attend. I'm the filmmaker of this documentary. So that's why I know that it's my word, It's the synopsis of the film. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kadimina (talkcontribs) 17:37, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you are the author of the page on the website mentioned then the situation is different. I am not at all familiar with this aspect of copyright law but you may be interested in this page. It is always open to you to write a new, differently worded synopsis for use in your article. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:53, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of Andaman masked owl

Henriette Feuerbach

I learned to usually simply accept when an image for DYK is not taken, but for Henriette Feuerbach, I'm disappointed, because it doesn't only show the subject, but style and period of the mentioned painter, who seems not as well known as I thought, + it's a woman. Please reconsider. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:52, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done. The image is very relevant to the hook. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:04, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Will you take a look at Synodus intermedius - last edit changed the order of the lead name and corrected something else. I wasn’t sure if I should change the lead back like it was. Best Atsme📞📧 14:20, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Atsme: The page is called Synodus intermedius so I think that is what should come first and be bolded in the lead. I see that the editor concerned is making similar changes to other articles, as in Synodus marchenae, and that one is worse because the fish does not seem to have a common name. I suggest you take the matter to the WikiProject Fishes page, or just reverse the ones you don't like. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:43, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ping

Cwm, are you online? Please ping me if you are, thanks, Gatoclass (talk) 15:31, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Gatoclass: I am now. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:28, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother you with this. Just as I was about to promote a set to the queue, Vanamonde queried the lead hook, which happens to be my nomination. I quickly responded but he had gone offline so the nomination page has been left hanging. I'm wondering if you could close the nomination for me, assuming you are satisfied with my fix? Otherwise, I am probably going to have to rotate that set out of its position and verify a third set today, which I'd really like to avoid. The open nomination can be found here and you can see my fix in Queue 3. Thanks, Gatoclass (talk) 17:38, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Gatoclass: I have proposed and approved ALT1. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:01, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have also closed the template. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:06, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, much appreciated :) I tweaked the hook according to your suggestion. Gatoclass (talk) 18:11, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I just thought I should let you know that I tweaked the hook to say "escaped destruction" rather than "escaped damage". There are two reasons for this - firstly (given the kind of nitpicking we often see these days) somebody could argue that there is no way of knowing whether the ship was damaged or not, we only know it was still operational after the quake. Secondly, I added some new sources to the article documenting that another ship went aground and was wrecked beyond repair shortly before Otsego arrived, establishing that the same fate might well have befallen Otsego.
Sorry once again about the hassle, and thanks again for work around DYK. I have really been enjoying your hooks lately BTW - the natural world is really a pretty fascinating place isn't it! Gatoclass (talk) 20:45, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wang Bingzhang

I was going to restore this hook as the issue has been resolved, but I see you have put an inuse tag on the next prep. Feel free to use it if you like, the nomination is at Template:Did you know nominations/Wang Bingzhang (general). Gatoclass (talk) 05:30, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It could go in Prep 5 as I have already added a different Chinese bio hook to Prep 4. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:43, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Cwmhiraeth, it looks like you put the hook in Prep 5, but you haven't yet closed the Template:Did you know nominations/Wang Bingzhang (general) template. Please do so when you get the chance. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 13:53, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Swedish Chinese speaker

Hi, I noticed you promoted this bio to a regular slot in Prep 1. I really think this hook deserves the lead image slot, but can't promote it because I worked on it. Could you move it to the next set? Also, we have tons of bio hooks further down the noms page which should be used to balance sets. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 13:34, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Yoninah: I did consider whether that hook should have an image slot and decided against it. On the whole I try to promote image hooks on encyclopedic subjects where the image enhances the hook; historical characters, geographical locations, works of art, animals, images required to illustrate the hook, etc. I do not in general promote living people, especially as here where I presume he is well known in Sweden. @TonyTheTiger: Looking at the nomination again I see that DetroitFan7 mentioned that you were the co-creator in his blurb but did not fill in the nomination template correctly so that your name did not appear on the credits. The template shouldn't really be edited after it has been archived, but I don't think it will do any harm if I add your credit there. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:49, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the template changed when it was archived, and is no longer in the same format. You will find that you get credited on your talk page in the normal way when the hook gets to the main page. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:55, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Gatoclass (talk) 00:31, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Would you consider changing the text back towards what you originally entered:
Both fish then return to the water, ...
rather than the (to me at least) ambiguous:
... before they fall back into the water.
As it is now I had to re-read a couple times to be sure you indeed meant the two fish fall back into the water, rather than the eggs which were just deposited.
As it is now
Here the female lays a batch of six to ten eggs which are immediately fertilised by the male, before they fall back into the water.
it just feels like you are playing with the reader with 'they'. Shenme (talk) 02:38, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request

Hi Cwmhiraeth. Sorry to bother you about this but I would like to ask if you would be able to close the merge proposal on Triangular corner flags in English football? I ask as consensus is against merging and it's part of a time-sensitive DYK nomination as I would like for it to run on Saturday to coincide with the FA Cup Final and the merge proposal is blocking this. Diphyllidea

Information icon Hello, I'm Smjg. I noticed that you recently removed all content from Diphyllidea. Please do not do this. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. As a rule, if you discover a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If a page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you wish to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. — Smjg (talk) 09:53, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Smjg: Well actually, the page was a redirect to the page Cestoda, one of about ten used in the Taxonomy section of the page Cestoda, and I would like to remove them all, leaving red links that indicate to other editors that articles are needed for these taxa. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 10:02, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Check out Template:R animal with possibilities (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), which is the template used on those redirects you tried to delete, @Cwmhiraeth:. It is used on 351 pages, with many others using {{R plant with possibilities}} and {{R taxon with possibilities}}. The solution is to write articles for those titles, and not just deletion. As you can see on Special:WhatLinksHere/Diphyllidea and Special:WhatLinksHere/Spathebothriidea, deleting the redirects would leave a number of redlinks instead of pointing users in the right direction. --Nessie (talk) 15:16, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The readers were being pointed in a wrong direction. If you feel like writing the articles, that's fine, but circular redirects are absolutely wrong (even if they have possibilities, unfortunately). Redlinks, on teh other hand, are fine, as they indicate opportunities for new articles. Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:46, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe, but that doesn't change the fact that blanking the page isn't the way to go about getting it deleted. Have you read the deletion policy yet? This will guide you on the correct processes to follow. — Smjg (talk) 17:52, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Prep 1

OK, I wrote most of it, but wouldn't Endsleigh Gardens make a more interesting picture hook than a military officer with a train? It has a murder which always intrigues and a good pic of a woman that displays well at thumbnail. IMHO everyone will want to know who she might have murdered and why and why she got off. Philafrenzy (talk) 07:35, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Philafrenzy: The military officer with his image was already in the prep set when I added your hook to fill a gap in the set. There are always more hooks nominated with images than there are hook slots available. In this instance, the article was about a location and so the image was peripheral to the main subject. Plus the fact that the image was of someone who was charged with a murder on flimsy evidence and was not convicted of the crime. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 08:18, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
But charged with a murder that took place in that street and so notorious that they had to change the street name. Could you see it as a picture slot in a different set? Philafrenzy (talk) 09:03, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The image would be more suitable for an article on the Euston Square Murder, in my opinion. Your article should still get plenty of page views even if the hook is not in the lead slot. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:28, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Have to say that I agree with Philafrenzy, and that the army officer photo is rather dull, and that the murder woman would be rather more interesting, or could be used in another set. We owe it to our readers! By the way, although Philafrenzy is quite right about having done most of the work, I should disclose that I started the article. Edwardx (talk) 18:08, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, wasn't seeking to steal your thunder, just acknowledging my partiality. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:10, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You could always try to persuade Yoninah to move it to another set, she likes women's portraits. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:19, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Yoninah: Philafrenzy (talk) 18:25, 19 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Cwm, it's not that I like women's portraits, it's like, as you told me a different time, that the image should add something to the hook. This image of a lieutenant general does nothing for the hook (which is a pretty good hook on its own). Also, we just ran one of Hawkeye7's general images a few sets earlier. The Endsleigh Gardens image adds some 19th-century flair to the hook. I'll make the switch. Yoninah (talk) 18:58, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Yoninah: OK. I don't object. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:11, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Yoninah (talk) 19:38, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Robert D. Bell

Hi Cwmhiraeth, Thanks for your comments on the subject page. They were very helpful to me, and I appreciate your taking the time. I have added a new lead section (no header) which I hope will resolve the question about Judge Bell's notability. Also, I added new section to explain better why this man seems to be notable. Doing so, has also added three more in-line citations. I wanted to wait before removing the banners at the top of the article until you have had time to review the changed page. Please let me know if you see anything else that ought to be addressed. Bruin2 (talk) 21:53, 20 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Bruin2: Thank you for making those improvements to the article, I have removed the now unnecessary tags. All new articles get reviewed to make sure they adhere to Wikipedia policy and standards. If I can be of any further assistance, please ask. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:00, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, some parts are written in past tense because the source was describing Gwebi College in the 1960s/70s and a current source could not be found. Thus I did not want to speculate about things like, whether the curriculum is the same or whether the college still has a cricket team 40 years after the source Jgefd (talk) 15:17, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Having read the article more carefully, your approach seems reasonable. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:15, 22 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello Cwmhiraeth, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

I did translate the List of political groups in the French Revolution from Dutch Wikipedia, but I wrote the Dutch version of the article as well, so there is no need to do any kind of attribution; I own the copyright to both articles' texts. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 22:39, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics page nominated for speedy deletion

What can I do to improve it and how can I retreive the deleted draft to improve it? thank you.
