Template:COVID-19 pandemic data/United States medical cases by state

Hi, and thanks for updating this page. When doing so, can you please also update the date of the state report and the date that you accessed it (and the total number of cases and deaths in the chart)? That way, when other editors are on the page, they can tell more easily which states were updated most recently and pay attention to those that in need of more recent updates. Thanks for your help.

Ira Leviton (talk) 20:49, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ira Leviton, I am always careful to update the total cases and deaths (you may have noticed the " <!-- *************** PLEASE UPDATE THE TOTAL CASES AND DEATHS AFTER EACH ADDITION! *************** --> " at the top of the template that I put there to encourage others, who seem to somehow manage to miss it) and my apologies for not updating the date, I wasn't aware that I was supposed to do that, otherwise I would've been doing it all along. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I always wanted to thank you for you lengthy updates to the template. Yesterday, I set aside a few hours to update the whole thing but you beat me to it by just a few minutes! Thank you for your dedication to the project and I hope to beat you to the next major update. :) Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 20:59, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry – I didn't realize you were the one who left the message about updating the totals.
I try to update this page once a week. I think it's important because it's an ongoing current event, and if we want people to use this page, it has to be kept reasonably up to date. But I'm sure you've also discovered that it's hard to find the time. It takes me about three hours to update the entries for all 50 states and territories, and that's only if there are no interruptions.
Ira
Ira Leviton (talk) 17:45, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ira Leviton, I normally do smaller, periodic updates for the most populous states when I don't have the time for a full overhaul. I also try to update the state of Illinois everyday, as that is the state I reside in. Also, you are correct, updating all of the states is very time-consuming and tedious and few people want to tackle it, which is probably why the table was woefully behind when I first started to help update. It is nice to know that you are working hard to keep it up-to-date. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 18:18, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ghost edit?

It appears that an edit has been made from my IP, but I have not made it. Thanks for pointing it out anyway. 27.104.202.222 (talk) 10:06, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Request on 02:09:02, 19 January 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Justin Kelly

Hi,

I am replying to your recent review of the Chiltern & District Football Association page that you decided to decline on the basis of

"113/114 references provided are simply routine coverage of the individual matches from the same newspaper, "Trove Newspapers." You need multiple reliable sources to establish notability. The article also needs some general cleanup."

I'am just letting you know that there is no actual Trove Newspaper, it is not an actual newspaper. If you check each published citation you will find that I have in fact supported this new page with 113/114 completely different published newspapers articles that have been scanned and saved on the Australian Government National Library website - "Trove"nat https://trove.nla.gov.au/about which is a heap more citations than almost all Australian Rules Football pages that I have checked out. Also what does general clean mean, can you please be specific as to what needs cleaning up. Thanks, Justin Kelly.

Justin J. Kelly (talk) 02:09, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Justin Kelly: Yes, you are correct. I am sorry for overlooking that, and I thank you for kindly correcting me.
By cleanup, there are a few issues. First, while the references are not all from the same source as I had thought, there are an awful lot of them. Ever seen this article? There is a such thing as too many citations, for instance, a citation for every single year and every number of teams. Are all of them necessary? Now, the answer may be yes, but I suggest you look over them. Then, in the "Participating Clubs section," take "Chiltern" for example: You list out the years that they were in the club as: 1912, 1913, 1915, 1919, 1920, 1922, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953. Is every year necessary to be listed out? Even if they were all necessary, couldn't you have done something like this: "1912–1913, 1915, 1919–1920, 1922, 1924–1940, 1945–1953" just to condense it a bit. Also, the first sentence is "Chiltern & District Football Association The Chiltern & District Football Association was first established in..." Where the title doesn't need to be repeated. The lead section also ends in "...". Is that a mistake, or is there more to say? If the latter is true, just say it. In the final sentence of the History section, you end in an (!), which isn't really encyclopediac. Another thing is to make sure that all citations are AFTER the period at the end of the sentence, not before them.
If you tidy those things up, go ahead and resubmit so someone can take a look at it again. If you need any help, there's always plenty of friendly people at the Teahouse or you can just ask me. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:59, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Draft:Gareth Delany, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. young people

When you encounter a draft where a young person discloses personal information, especially if they give their age, please don't just reject or decline it. They don't realize how dangerous it can be to do this. Please notify me or another administrator, preferably by email, or by a carefully worded message on their talk page, so the material can be removed to protect them from their own inexperience. If the person is apparently younger than 12 or 13, whether its on a draft or user page, notify off-wiki the oversight team, or an oversighter (such as myself) by any of the methods at WP:OVERSIGHT without posting anything on-wiki. I try to screen all incoming drafts for this, but I will miss some. DGG ( talk ) 01:50, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DGG, I'm terribly sorry for overlooking that. With the monotony of going through the drafts, I forgot to keep an eye open for that. Thank you very much for reminding me and I will be more attentive in the future. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 02:07, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Aleem

Hello,

You recently declined a submission by the name of Aleem Zafar. I would like to know if you can edit the page in your own words as well? Or if you can guide me through what does it shows promotional?

Any help would be greatly regarded xx ❤️ Kiranin69 (talk) 02:27, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kiranin69, consider the sentence: "Aleem’s chocolate boy look has always made his fans go crazy after him." This sentence seems to contain more opinion than fact, wouldn't you agree? I would suggest that you scan through this draft and remove any statements that are pure opinion or replace them with a fact that is backed up by reliable sources. I think this draft has a chance, but you have to look over it to ensure a neutral point of view. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 20:38, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@General electric p30ch: For an infobox, try using Template:Multiple image. Tell me if you are confused or need some more help. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 19:33, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I want instructions.--General electric p30ch (talk) 20:36, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@General electric p30ch: Here you go, bud. Copy what you see below right now into where the image should go in your infobox (after the | image = ). DO NOT go into the editor here and copy that, it won't work then, copy what you see right now. When you paste it, click the blue "Use as plain text" button. I can also show you how to make the images appear side-by-side instead of one on top of the other. Tell me if that works for you. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 21:15, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Copy and paste this:

{{multiple image
| border = infobox

| image_style = border:1;
| perrow = 1
| image1 = example.png <!-- REPLACE WITH REAL IMAGE -->
| image2 = example2.png <!-- REPLACE WITH REAL IMAGE -->

Go to the Draft:CSX Altenheim Subdivision and at the content table press Lost stations along the line owned by CN&P and insert the reference 1.--General electric p30ch (talk) 16:06, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
General electric p30ch, yes, I know where to find the information. However, I have never attempted to create a route map before. I asked around, and another user kindly instructed me "take a look at Wikipedia: Route diagram template. It explains {{routemap}} and provides a worked example." You may take a look at this in the meantime, and I will see if I can create it later. However, I'm not 100% sure what you want me to do. Could you look at Template: Routemap and tell me if one of the examples is what you are looking to create? Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 16:50, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

General electric p30ch, I have marked Draft: CSX Train Symbols for speedy deletion, but Draft: CSX Dispatcher Desk cannot be deleted under G7 as you are not the original author, and the creator would need to be the one to nominate it for deletion. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me)
I said you to delete the Draft: CSX Train Symbols because I made the Draft: List of CSX Train Symbols. Also you must inform the other users to not edit this draft--General electric p30ch (talk) 13:19, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
General electric p30ch, that draft could not be deleted under G7 as you are not the author. The user who created this draft is Locomotive 0-4-0 t, so they would need to nominate it for deletion, not you.

Kiranin69, most of the text appeared to have been copied from his official site, but has since been removed. You must start the draft from scratch. You can do so by simply clicking here. Just make sure you do not copy anything at all. Just say everything in your own words and support it with better sources and you should be okay. I hope it goes well. This page is currently protected so that only administrators can create it.
This is what i’m getting when i click that link Kiranin69 (talk) 23:49, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Kiranin69, oh, sorry about that. Yeah, in that case, I'm not sure you will be able to create it. I myself am a fairly experienced editor, but am not an administrator and therefore cannot unlock it. In order for you to recreate the draft, you would need to kindly ask the administrator who protected the page. That user would be Deb, but you already tried once before. I wouldn't try again since she already said no. There's really nothing else you or I can do. You could try asking her, but I wouldn't suggest that. You can always make a draft on another topic if you wish, and I'll happily help you with that as much as I can. I wish you good luck on any future endeavors, my friend. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 01:32, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your message, which I only received once (!) I protected the page because it's been created no fewer than FOUR times and deleted each time - on three of those occasions it's been for copyright reasons. Let User:Kiranin69 show his good faith by making some edits to other articles before he requests another chance to create a new draft. So far he has only shown an interest in this one article, which is the worst possible way for a new user to begin their Wikipedia career. I'm sure you understand this. Deb (talk) 08:26, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Deb, yes, I verily agree. Your decision to protect the article from creation was correct in my opinion. I did suggest to them that they edit elsewhere rather than try and petition to have this article unprotected, but they did insist. @Kiranin69: please take Deb's advice as they are a very experienced editor. Try and gain some experience around Wikipedia to show that you are indeed here to help the encyclopedia and to gain some valuable experience along the way. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:21, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I’m a female 😄 thank you though for the advices. Will try to follow them. If the first three has been for copyright issues, like i said let me allow to rewrite it. Thank you Kiranin69 (talk) 17:31, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Deb: I think this one's for you... Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 17:56, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Kiranin69: And like I said, show your good faith by making constructive edits to other articles before trying to recreate the article. Deb (talk) 18:06, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Got your point. Thank you :) see you around Kiranin69 (talk) 19:02, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The suffix "-oid"

I note that you have stated that you realise that "the Earth isn't an oblate spheroid, but rather a close approximation of one".

Since the suffix "-oid" means (to quote) ' “resembling,” “like,” used in the formation of adjectives and nouns (and often implying an incomplete or imperfect resemblance to what is indicated by the preceding element): alkaloid; anthropoid; cardioid; cuboid; lithoid; ovoid; planetoid', it would thus seem that the description of the Earth as "oblate spheroid', meaning an approximation of a flattened sphere, is perhaps correct after all.

(Of course, the suffix "-oid" is sometimes abused. For instance a BBC Radio 2 afternoon programme talks about "factoids", in the sense of "small"or "trivial" facts; but "-oid" is not a diminuitive). Arrivisto (talk) 21:47, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Arrivisto, hahaha! You really did your research! Thank you so much, you made my day. According to your research, which seems sound, I would assume that you are correct. However, I believe that you would need to update the Wikipedia article regarding spheroids since it does say, "The oblate spheroid is the approximate shape of rotating planets and other celestial bodies, including Earth..." and the article on Earth, which says "...a better approximation of Earth's shape is an oblate spheroid." The latter is supported by a reference to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. But for real, I really enjoyed that! I'm surprised that you even noticed that. Have a good day dude and alert me of any other potential discrepancies on my userpage! :) Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 22:50, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
On another matter, (Piper Boats), I have put a plea on both the DBA-The Barge Association and the Piper Boats Owners Club respective webpages for third party references, so as to be able to revive "my" page that was demoted to draft. As yet, however, no luck! Arrivisto (talk) 10:38, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Arrivisto, if the subject is indeed notable, there should already be enough references for you to work with. If there isn't, then it is simply because the subject isn't sufficiently notable. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:33, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"If there isn't, then it is simply because the subject isn't sufficiently notable." That doesn't quite follow, but nevertheless I will only revive the the article once I get good 3rd-party refs. Arrivisto (talk)
Allow me to rephrase: Arrivisto, if the subject is indeed notable, there should already be enough references for you to work with. Draft: Free News

Thank you for your advice and comments on how to Draft: Free News article. I have carefully studied the source citation materials, checked all the links included in my article, and added new links to authoritative sources that referrer to Free News for their publications. If necessary, I can clearly show where exactly there is a mention or link of Free News on the source sites, they are in every source that I indicated in the links of this article. I would like to ask you to take a look at the draft again and let me know if there are any more errors or if there is a need to add information that confirms the significant coverage of the audience. In any case, thanks for the help, I hope I can improve this article so that it would be worthy of publication. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Except248 (talkcontribs) 00:46, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Except248, I would review the draft for you, but you haven't yet submitted it. However, I do not yet think you have sufficiently addressed the issues. The references you have provided mostly seem to use Free News as a source or list it for more information. None of them go into any depth regarding Free News itself. Try and find more sources that discuss Free News rather than just briefly mention it as a source in order to establish its notability. See Wikipedia:Notability (media) and Wikipedia:Notability (web) for more information, and feel free to contact me with any questions/concerns. Hey ;) Hair advice pls

Heyyyyyy :)))))))) I checked out ur wiki page and ur says u got more than 110000 hair. I know my username is imnotbald but I’m actually bald.

My wife is thinking about leaving me coz I’m bald and she’s taking my daughter too. Can u pls give me some hair advice? Thank you so much. Have a great day!!!! Imnotbald (talk) 11:23, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Imnotbald, this talk page is typically for asking Wikipedia-related questions, like for help editing, asking me about an edit I made, etc. not for random questions like that. Please keep this in mind in the future.
Hopefully, this is a joke, but if your wife is truly considering leaving you and taking your daughter because you are balding, I think you two should sit down and have a very serious conversation about the reason you got married in the first place. Did she really marry you and have a daughter with you simply because she liked your hair? Ask her which is more important, the love you have for each other or a head of hair? If you still want some advice on how to deal with hair loss, see the article Management of hair loss, but I wouldn't do it for her if it is a prerequisite for her love. I hope that helps. This is a ping → @XWilliamson101:. Pinging is just mentioning someone specific so that they receive a notification in order to respond to you. You can ping someone by typing this: {{ping|USERNAME}}. Hopefully that helps and thanks for the barnstar as well. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 14:58, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@EDG 543: Ok, and your welcome :) XWilliamson101 (talk) 15:54, 4 March 2021 (UTC)XWilliamson101[reply]
XWilliamson101, no, you don't type <code> or <nowiki>, those are just for me so that I can show you the code for the ping without it actually pinging anyone. Just type what you see before going into the editor: {{ping|USERNAME}}. Also, you don't need to type your username after your signature, since it's already in your signature. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 16:03, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@XWilliamson101: Please excuse me sticking my nose in here, but in case you were wondering, the term "ping" as used by the esteemed EDG_543, originally derives from the TCP/IP (computer networking) concept/utility called Ping (networking_utility). A little Saturday morning etymology for anyone interested. Cheers! Toddst1 (talk) 20:01, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sources needed for Days of the Year pages

I see you recently accepted a pending change to April 27 that did not include a direct source.

You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages are no longer exempt from WP:V and direct sources are required for additions. For details see the edit notice on that page, the content guideline and/or the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide.

All new additions to the DOY pages without references are now being either reverted on-sight or in some cases where the patroller is especially motivated, immediately sourced. I've gone ahead and backed this edit out.

All the pages in the Days of the Year project have had pending changes protection turned on to prevent vandalism and further addition of entries without direct sources. As a pending changes patroller, it's not required but it sure would be helpful if you didn't accept additions to day of year pages where no direct source has been provided on that day of year page. The burden to provide sources for additions to these pages is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages.

Thank you and please keep up your good work! Toddst1 (talk) 19:54, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Toddst1, thanks for the explanation! I will keep that in mind in the future for sure. To address your message above this one, thanks for the trivia, much appreciated! DYK for 2021 Texas power crisis

On 12 March 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2021 Texas power crisis, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Governor Greg Abbott initially blamed the 2021 Texas power crisis on frozen wind turbines? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2021 Texas power crisis. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 2021 Texas power crisis), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Help me

I want help from you with the references in the Draft:Brendam Branch Line.--General electric p30ch (talk) 10:37, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

General electric p30ch, I did a quick look for references and could not find any quality ones. The only references I could find were to Fandom sites, which can't be used as they aren't reliable (since anyone can change the information). You may have to abandon this draft as it lacks general notability. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 12:10, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Do you can help me with the referecing;--General electric p30ch (talk) 13:29, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

General electric p30ch, I cannot help you with referencing on Draft:Brendam Branch Line because, unfortunately, no good sources exist. All articles on Wikipedia need to be supported by reliable references. While Fandom sites can be helpful, we cannot use them as they can be changed by anyone and could contain false information. WP:REFB gives you a very good guide to referencing. Wikipedia:Reliable sources gives you a good explanation of how to determine whether a source is reliable or not, and you can click here for a fun quiz you can try to help you test your knowledge of reliable sources (don't worry, there's no grade and it explains why the sources are reliable or not for you). I hope that helps. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:38, 17 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

John J. Richardson

EDG 543 Hi..I've followed hundreds of film and actor stub pages that depended solely on imdb.com, despite the fact that imdb is not a Reliable source! The page is definitely need to be improved, not deleted! I've made many Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons pages without their Wikipedia's counterparts. This time, however, I've created a page about John J. Richardson only to distinguish him from his contemporary Jack Richardson. Please see also his John J. Richardson Commons page and watch his Mack Sennett short with Bevan and Turpin.Maher27777 (talk) 15:48, 22 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Maher27777, sorry for the confusion, but your article was not actually deleted. It was moved to a draft. Since it was moved to a draft, the blank article was that was left behind was deleted. Regardless of any articles you may have seen in the past, IMDb is not generally considered a reliable source as most of the information is provided by random editors. It may be used in a few cases, but should not be the sole reference for the article. You can read this short essay directly related to this issue. Help with editing

Please send me the codes of bg-colors.--General electric p30ch(talk) 10:27, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

General electric p30ch, if "bg-colors" means background color, you can change the background color like this, you can type this {{background color|<example color>|<example text>}}. For the background color of table cells, see Template:Table cell templates, specifically this section for the specific code.
Tell me if that answers your question. Also, did you resolve the issue regarding the categories from before? Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:05, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please go to the Draft:List of Thomas & Friends Characters in real life and help please with the backhround color at only the first section of the table.--General electric p30ch(talk) 05:48, 6 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
General electric p30ch, I changed to color of the first column. I don't know if it's the proper way to do so, but it works. You can change the color to whatever you please, just hit ctrl + f on your keyboard, in the "Find" input, type "ccccdd", and in the replace line, type the hex color code of whatever color you desire, then click "Replace all." RE > Message to myself - Chris LAdds

Dear EDG 543, you are correct in your observations about the number of edits in succession and the detail in the edit summaries. I am aware of what you describe, but what you see was done deliberately because unfortunately as a fairly new editor to Wiki, I am experiencing persistent vandalism to a page by a more longstanding editor. I recently left a message in the tearoom about this (about an hour ago at 21:40 British time).

The issue is that I reversed a series of non-sensical edits that introduced clearly fallacious information and changed the semantics or nuance of what was originally included. Some benefit of the doubt was given because the other editor cannot access specific sources, and they did make a series of other genuine improvements.

However, the user has been repeatedly reversing the edits and now has went as far as to change all of them whilst veiling it over with a series of minor language improvements. As far as I can trace this is a method of sidestepping direct vandalism and is called hidden vandalism. I have since issued an appropriate warning onto their wall. Some of the changes have amounted to changing comma lists of surnames into first and second names; describing small areas within others as forming the whole of a geographical area; describing one of multiple rented occupants as owning lands, by changing 'occupied' to 'belonged'; changing the names of churches and removing capitalisation of names, and much more. The editor seems insistent on doing batch edits and captioning them as 'slimming down' or 'adding sense' to the language. This they are not doing. As a new user this is very discouraging, especially because I am an archivist prominent in the area the articles cover, and many of the sources are ones I am identified with being a steward for. People in this part of Scotland are already coming across the article aware it has been expanded, and are pointing out the various mistakes the user is introducing.

Each single edit I made in succession as to make it absolutely clear why the edit was necessary and why it should remain for the record. The user reversed it all. It is odd because I can find little evidence of other vandalism by this user, but there is no mistaking the situation faced here. I think I have it right that after this warning there can be another two and then an administrator can step in?

Chris L. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chrisladds (talkcontribs)

Chrisladds, thank you for taking the time to explain the situation to me. At the Teahouse, it seems that most of the helpers think that the edits done by this user do not amount to vandalism, and users can be quite offended if newer users accuse them of doing such when, more likely, there is just a misunderstanding. If you want to discuss this matter with the editor in question, please click here to start a discussion regarding the user's edits. Type {{ping|Bmcln1}} (in order to notify them of the discussion) followed by a brief explanation. Please also remember to properly sign your post by typing ~~~~. Also, please be advised that this user has expressed a disinterest in engaging in this discussion and is a well-respected and highly experienced editor and I highly doubt that they do not have malicious intentions. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 22:17, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
EDG 543 Thank you for your concise and wise statement. The issue with communication is that I am still getting used to the features of the Wikipedia interface such as Talk and Tearoom. I am however adept at this stage with the editing process and review of editing summaries. Whilst I note the majority of what is described, there is issue with the descriptions of tenure and respect. Whilst that may very well be true, the facts speak for themselves. I don't think any objective Wikipedia editor if fully aware of the facts and chronology of what happened, could label it anything but vandalism. The changes were made several times and the reasoning made clear in the summaries. This even amounted to my resort to one by one fixes, 17 in order, with full substantiation. That was partly because a full reversal would have removed two or three other improvements. Some of the changes accused as vandalism are quite acute, such as changing names of places and people. Details aside, if an experienced respected user takes issue with being 'corrected' and makes repeated attempts at restoring false information, and takes steps to shroud them in genuine edits - is that not a very clear case of vandalism? As a new user I actually feel bullied, and more so bullied by an established editor base that seem to value reputation and experience over the facts of what is right and wrong. That gives me very serious concerns as to whether I should continue making meaningful contributions to Wikipedia. Of course the other fear is that this may have happened before, but that other new users were bullied out and did not bother to stand up for what is right. My stance on the matter was not dissuaded by being new to the game. Best wishes.
Chrisladds (talk) 22:34, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"I highly doubt that they do not have malicious intentions." Was that what you meant to write? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:04, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång: Not at all! I'm certain that I was trying to type "I'm pretty sure they do not have malicious intentions" and "I doubt they have malicious intentions" at the same time. Thank you for pointing that out! Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 12:24, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Chrisladds: I apologize if I made it seem like the other user was in the the right simply because they have a higher edit count as that is not the case. I have not thoroughly examined either of the edits, I only skimmed through the history of the article and do not have an opinion on who is right or who is wrong in this case. All I'm trying to say is that it doesn't really make sense that an editor with such a clean track record as theirs just suddenly starts bullying you out of the blue. Sure, the "power" that comes with being such a respected editor can go to some editor's heads, but I don't think this is the case. I'm certain that there is just a misunderstanding that could probably be talked out on the article's talk page. (I noticed here that an editor partially agrees with your stance.) I don't think that this should discourage you from making contributions to Wikipedia as I think you are a promising editor who can add a lot to this project. I would recommend simply either trying to talk it out calmly and respectfully (without making accusations of vandalism, whether true or not) or taking a step back from that article and editing elsewhere. The latter will allow you to continue to train your editing skills further and help you to develop a deeper understanding of Wikipedia's policies, as they can be a bit confusing when you are just getting started. I've been here a few years myself and still make plenty of mistakes and learn something new everyday. I hope you choose to stick around. Autopatrolled granted

Hi EDG 543, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Beeblebrox (talk) 23:34, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help me! Draft:Teckzite

EDG 543 Hi, the page created is declined when submitted for review citing promotional content, Teckzite is a national-level techno management fest page as many examples already existing on wikipedia. See Techfest page for instance. So I kindly request to look into the article and help me with it. Thank you! (ShameenaSultana562(talk) 18:20, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ShameenaSultana562, perhaps you should've waited for a reply to the similar message you left to CommanderWaterford before coming here? The article you use as your example for why your article is good, Techfest, is actually marked as sounding like an advertisement as well, so maybe it's not the example you should be emulating... Take a look at WP:PROMO for more on our policies against advertising and make at least an effort to improve your draft this time. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:43, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@ShameenaSultana562 Indeed, I am somewhat concerned about being you such impatient - is there any special reason why you need to get the draft approved this fast ?! Please notice that we have more than 5,000 drafts waiting for a review - so yours will have to wait, it can take up to months. CommanderWaterford (talk) 15:38, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
CommanderWaterford Sorry for being impatient regarding the article. Teckzite is annually conducted event prestigious for RGUKT and this year it is going to be conducted in the month of June. As there is such a small time gap I was being a little impatient. I myself search for the fests I attend in other universities to know about their growth and objectives. I believe it is important for students to know about the fest beforehand when they attend them. Thanks! ShameenaSultana562 (talk) 10:11, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ShameenaSultana562, so you're saying (correct me if I'm wrong) that you need to finish this advertisement quickly before the event so people can know about it? Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 12:47, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
EDG 543 No, I just wanted to have this article so students like me who search on web about the fests will get know everything about this fest that's it no advertisement intended!! Thank you. (ShameenaSultana562(talk) 19:52, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ShameenaSultana562, your draft has been rejected by another user, meaning that the topic is not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 14:33, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Women Of The Early East L.A Punk Scene

I edited my article and try to make the tone neutral. All I've included in the article was secondary and third party sources in order to capture what the overall ethics, politcs, intersectionalities, and what made these artist feel like they needed a space that was made for them during this era of punk rock. If you have anymore info that could help, please let me know! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Codyrene1995 (talkcontribs) 00:46, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Codyrene1995, alright, I did some cleanup for you and someone will be around to review your article eventually. Please bear in mind that there are more than 5,000 drafts in queue and the drafts are reviewed in no particular order, meaning it could take just an hour or it could take as long as five months. Request on 18:52:59, 17 May 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Peaches4free

updated article Searched for primary sources for the claims made in the article. Added links to several google books and pdf articles, but no OCR on the text. Please let me know if this passes muster, if not I am happy to try again - just starting out and wanted to help my local town with historical buildings. Please be gentle - I'm learning!

Peaches4free (talk) 18:52, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Peaches4free, you've done well to gather more sources, but I'm not quite sure that they establish the notability of this church. According to WikiProject Religion, "as for any subject on Wikipedia, presumption of notability for a religious structure or building depends wholly on the existence of significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject." If you feel the draft satisfies those guidelines, feel free to resubmit and a reviewer will take a look at it. Please be patient as their are currently 5,178 other drafts also awaiting review. Issue with getting approved

Hello,

Thank you for your review on Maria Gloria Dominguez-Bello's page by me, RU Microbiome Program.

I believe I fixed the citations on that page and I had submitted the page again. Would it be possible to review the changes, and hopefully be approved?

Thanks,

RU Microbiome Program (talk) 20:08, 1 July 2021 (UTC) RU Microbiome Program (talk) 20:08, 1 July 2021 (UTC) RU Microbiome Program[reply]

RU Microbiome Program, I'm terribly sorry, but I am currently incredibly busy in real life and am not actively reviewing articles until mid-August. Please just be patient and another reviewer will take care of it eventually. However, I do want you to be aware that there is a such thing as too many citations. I would advise removing many of them before a reviewer will take you seriously, as 100+ in the further reading section is quite excessive. WP:PROF

For researchers in any field, the relevant standard is not whether there are third party sources to meet GNG. The relevant standard is WP:PROF., and that is normally met by showing the person to be influential in their subject as demonstrated by citations to their work, or , in the humanities, by books they have published. I've consequently accepted several academic bio articles you've declined using gng. Their publications are the necessary 3rd party sources; therr bio can be documented from any RS, such as their CV, even though it is not independent. DGG ( talk ) 09:03, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:52, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New Edit

Hello,

I saw the good job you did with Shiba Inu cryptocurrency. I'm new here and really would love to write about a cryptocurrency. Can you assist me?

Hullo, Mastetchi. Thank you for reaching out to me. Excuse my late reply, I am quite busy irl. I'm not the most experienced editor on the site, but I'd be happy to assist you in any way I can. What crypto were you thinking of writing an article about? Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 18:03, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. How long and what did it take to gain the rights you have now (rollbacker & etc)?? Just curious Neoinsession (talk) 18:24, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Neoinsession: Hullo there, friend. I hope you are having a wonderful day thus far. To answer the first part of your question, it took me just under three years from my account creation to gain the permission of rollbacker, three years and one month for pending changes reviewer, and nearly three years and eight months for autopatrolled. However, these results may not be typical, as I didn't seek to gain any of these rights for a while after creating my account. Most (if not all) rights are given after you have met certain criteria specific to each right and apply to be considered. You can click here to request the rollback permission (which generally requires 200+ mainspace edits prior to consideration) and click here to request the autopatrolled permission (which generally requires the creation of 25+ articles prior to consideration). I see you have already requested the permission of pending changes reviewer, where an editor advised you to wait a while due to your general lack of experience in the field. If you plan on submitting requests for any permissions, please be sure to carefully read the general criteria for consideration to better your chances of being granted the permission. I would be happy to help you with anything else you may need. Have a very nice day. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 19:49, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Features for new users coming soon (and mentors, like you, wanted!)

Hello. As you're currently listed as a host at the Teahouse, I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of new Growth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to their User page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - and you'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.

  • Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
  • There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
  • Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via a Your mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.

To spread the load on our current list of around 65 mentors, I'm reaching out to ask if you'd like to help out and sign up as one? The workload is relatively small; User Panini! reports receiving four questions a month, on average, all of which were simple ones of the type we already get at the Teahouse, whilst I've had just one in the last 3 weeks. To view a list of every question asked of all mentors over the last 14 days, click here.

If becoming a mentor and being available to help new users on their first few days here interests you - just as have done at the Teahouse in the past - then please consider signing up at Growth Team features/Mentor list. But please only do so if you are genuinely willing to be available to help. Existing users can already 'opt-in' to seeing the Newcomer Homepage features via their Preferences.

Question from Closerthan6 (02:23, 14 April 2022)

how may i correct a factual error - in the bio of a living person? I am a former Harvard faculty member and Harvard AB, PhD and MBA. I am a serious person and wish to correct a profile in Wiki.

I am not sure how to do this. Please let me know. --Closerthan6 (talk) 02:23, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Closerthan6. Correcting a factual error is quite simple. First, make sure you have a reliable source or two that corroborates this change. Then, you can simply click the "Edit" button at the top right of the article (you can switch from the source editor to the Visual Editor if that would be easier for you). Then, simply make the necessary change yourself. Makes sure to cite your sources. Click here if you need a bit of help. If you still don't understand, just shoot me another message. Hope you have a nice day :) Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:14, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question from CliffChapman40 (13:21, 18 April 2022)

Hello! I need to sort a professional entry for myself. One was rejected, erroneously (and arguably grounds for defamation!) as "unsuccessful actor" which is not true, and has I believe negatively impacted some work opportunities. I can provide full evidence that I am a professionally trained, registered, represented and working actor with professional recognisable credits. Please would you help me create a basic page that can remain active and ensure it does not fall foul of the rather over-enthusiastic and poorly researched cruelty of last time! Thank you! --CliffChapman40 (talk) 13:21, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, CliffChapman40. Did you create this article with a different account? This appears to be your first edit. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:26, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My partner created the dead article for me originally under her account, some years ago, and attempts have been made since to provide evidence the moderation decision was wrong to deaf ears under that account. I've started a new account to try and sort this, as having ignored it for a while it concerns me a search will negatively impact work opportunites. But yes, this is a new account specifically to try and resolve this issue! Thank you CliffChapman40 (talk) 13:31, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
CliffChapman40, was there a deletion discussion? If so, could you provide the link? Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:32, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know I'm afraid. Only that the article was rejected as "unsuccessful actor" and appears if you google.
https://en.every**bodywiki.com/Cliff_Chapman seems to be a clone of the original deleted article
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blake%27s_7_(audio_drama) contains several mentions of me (I play Tyrric in Happy Ever After and Madison in the Avalon dramas).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_of_Sherwood:_The_Knights_Of_The_Apocalypse features me
And this article references me
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Future_Boys_Trilogy
I am also referenced for quotes several times as a reviewer and features writer for Den of Geek.
My official Spotlight CV is here: https://www.spotlight.com/5813-0164-4292 CliffChapman40 (talk) 13:37, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Remove ** to make that link work, wiki bans the untampered link! CliffChapman40 (talk) 13:38, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
CliffChapman40, well, before you attempt to recreate this article, please carefully read [WP:COI[|this guideline]], it explains many important rules for writing about yourself, including this need to disclose your conflict of interest. You may also benefit from reading Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. Then, you should identify multiple, reliable sources to validate the information that will be included in the article. Then, click here to begin a draft. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 13:54, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. If I post the link here will you be able to to review it for me please? I've also received a message from another mod panicking that I seem to be trying to threaten legal action. I'm not, I just want a simple article and that "unsucessful" note taken away, which is an easier life for everyone. No one's got the time or the money for all that nonsense, sure we can resolve things! But it WAS harmful to my business and the dispute process ignored me at the time. I'll make the article. Many thanks. CliffChapman40 (talk) 14:06, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
CliffChapman40, well, to comment on the supposed legal threats, you must avoid calling editor's actions "defamation" without very clear proof. Also, when creating this article, please make sure you know your intentions. Are you creating the article to better your career/reputation? If that's the case, you should avoid creating the article yourself. Wikipedia does not exist for that purpose; it only exists to provide unbiased facts, whether the facts are helpful or harmful to the subject's career. I am not accusing you of do this, I am just making sure you are aware of this. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 14:16, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The intention of the article is not promotion, merely logging existence and I am more than happy to work with you to finesse the text to ensure that comes across. My name has existed in wiki The Future Boys article as a stub for some time for example. Referenced in factual articles, and my name is also in several cast lists of productions, some of which have clickable links to actors pages, and with an extensive audio drama CV particularly in sci fi and fantasy, where fans of those franchises appreciate being able to look up contributors, I believe its existence is justified. Should there be no article, and no mention of a deleted article with "unsuccessful actor on it (which *was* innaccurate, and personally and professionally harmful, but my point is I want to move on from that, I'm not here to give people a hard time or make them worry, just try and start afresh)", that would be also acceptable. My CV is largely comprised of contributions to professional licensed sci fi and fantasy productions, with the fans (especially Doctor Who and Blake's 7 fans) being keen on researching and logging contributors, so I believe sufficient (certainly no *less* sufficient) than many other creatives with wiki pages. Again, the last thing I want is any friction or aggression. All I seek is a basic page no more or less than many creatives with my professional experience or less. I hope you can empathise with that motive. The draft is here, very happy to work with you and tweak to what you think would be acceptable. I am having trouble trying to work out how to code the evidential links correctly, but am trying to puzzle it out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Cliff_Chapman_(Actor) Again, enormous thanks for your time on this, I appreciate you've responded to it very quickly. CliffChapman40 (talk) 14:56, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Further to this, two other mods seem to be following this and another one has already rejected the article. Per this whole discussion, it would be GREATLY appreciated if I could just deal with one person on this and resolve it satisfactorily and properly. I recognise Spotlight etc may not be over familiar to overseas reviewers. I will add IMDB, although the bulk of my work is audio drama rather than screen. Again, it may need to be stressed that it is not a binary of "Hollywood Movie and TV actor" or "not actor" in terms of performers. CliffChapman40 (talk) 15:00, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
CliffChapman40, just to be clear, their are no "mods" on Wikipedia. They are just fellow editors, not unlike you and I. The reviewer pointed out that your draft lacks reliable sources to show the subject's notability. The Audible link doesn't add much to your draft. equity.org.uk won't load for me, but likely doesn't mention you specifically on that exact page. Am I correct? indiemacuser.co.uk seems to be nothing more than a personal blog that doesn't even mention you. Radio Times seems to be a solid source but, once again, does not mention you. You'll need to find a number of reliable sources that not just mention you, but some that are written actually about you. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 15:16, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Cliff_Chapman_(Actor) I've udpated again. The indiemac review doesn't seem to have gone over in full - it did mention me originally. I've resisted adding direct retail links from the publishers as that would seem to be promotional. Would they be better? https://www.audible.co.uk/search?keywords=cliff+chapman&ref-override=a_ep_row_t1_header_search&k=cliff+chapman or https://www.bigfinish.com/search_results?search_value_selected=0&search_term=cliff+chapman? Thank you! CliffChapman40 (talk) 15:21, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
CliffChapman40, the References section is a bit messy. Avoid just throwing links down there. Any in-text citations will automatically appear. Any additional links can be added in an "External links" section. Regarding the links that you have included above, it is never a good idea to simply include a link to search results. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 15:25, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Septonomic, yes, you are allowed to make such sub-pages. In order to do it, simply search for the exact title of the page you wish to create (for example, User:Septonomic/About). Then, you should be given the option to create the page. Just be sure that you keep any and all subpages related to Wikipedia (not a blog, memior, advertisement, etc.). Moved Await Further Instructions back

Hey, just wanted to let you know this was back. This never should have been sent to the draftspace. While not all reviews on Rotten Tomatoes are reliable, there were plenty on there to justify it being notable. You were also clearly still working on the article when it was moved, which is another reason it shouldn't have been moved. The person didn't do any WP:BEFORE as far as I can see.

I'm also baffled as to why it was repeatedly declined at AfC. Not all of the sources were good, but there was enough to establish notability and there wasn't so much cleanup of sourcing and such that it couldn't have been done live. Really, the only parts I thought needed removal were the uses of IMDb as a source, the mention of IMDb reviews, and a couple of other sources that weren't really good RS. It was cleanup that really only needs a few minutes to do, easy fixes. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 20:00, 13 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
