This is a list of redirects that have been proposed for deletion or other action on July 15, 2022.

The first dog

[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was disambiguate. I've drafted a DAB at First dog, to which I've retargeted these two titles; I will as a common-sense action (not per se part of this close) also retarget First Dog there. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 00:57, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Along with the other redirect, The first dog, these should be retargeted to United States presidential pets. Obama is not the only President to have had a dog. TraderCharlotte (talk) 21:13, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Those dogs may have been the most important in one country, but they weren't the first. Domestication of the dog#Morphological divergence covers earlier dogs. Certes (talk) 21:53, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Relisting to add The first dog which was also intended to be discussed by the nom.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, CycloneYoris talk! 23:16, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If the consensus is to Disambiguate I would consider First dog and First Dog to be uncontroversial followups.--67.70.24.37 (talk) 18:09, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Complex algebra

[edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was disambiguate. If I've made any errors in math terminology in the DAB page, please correct them. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 19:59, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing: Probalbly, most people searching this phrase would search algebra over the complex numbers. D.Lazard (talk) 19:44, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Relisted due to a suggestion to create an article also appearing.

  • Comment Apparently, "complex" is an archaic term for subgroup, and the current target describes algebra of subgroups. The far more common modern usage is algebra on complex numbers (in the sense). Certes (talk) 22:06, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Certes According to Complex#Mathematics, a complex is just an element of a field/algebra of sets. Considering that subgroups are not closed under complements and unions, I'm not sure where you are getting that definition from. 1234qwer1234qwer4 11:41, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps I've oversimplified or simply misunderstood what the article was trying to say. However, the main point is that the term is ambiguous, and many readers who are not set theory specialists would think of algebra involving . Certes (talk) 12:23, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Until a new article is ready, see if a disambiguation is feasible between the current target's context as explained by Certes, the nominated suggestion, and complex numbers per SilverMatsu. Jay (talk) 04:22, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguate per above. Not sure if an article on algebraic properties of the complex numbers would warrant an article separate from the one on complex numbers, but I suggest it be called less ambiguously regardless. 1234qwer1234qwer4 11:43, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dozens of potentials, strong argument that the current target isn't even the primary (as this is now the name of an entire video game genre). Recommend moving the dab page to here. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) (talk) 19:42, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. signed, Rosguill talk 20:44, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion.

  1. IT SERVES NO PURPOSE: it's an Arabic word meaning many things, mainly "season", which hasn't entered English.
  2. There is a Wiktionary entry for the word (written in Arabic, true), see here.
  3. We have Mawsim (disambiguation). The Wiktionary entry is linked there.
  4. It's wrong in terms of the stated meaning, the main one being "season" and none being "weather".
  5. It's formally wrong: "Weather" should be with lower-case w, but that's soo secondary. Arminden (talk) 16:08, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was speedy delete as vandalism under the G3 criterion. Creator has declined to explain herself despite a request on her talkpage, and has continued to edit, so I will take that as an acknowledgment that this redirect serves no non-vandalistic purpose. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 22:18, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. -- Tavix (talk) 15:45, 24 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of "split reins" at the target. Searching the phrase online doesn't return any meaningful results. Delete unless a justification can be provided. signed, Rosguill talk 15:07, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • See here[3] for mention of split reins at the time and here[4]for the summary of the government report on the incident mentioning split reins. The redirect doesn't strike me as particularly useful and can probably be deleted.--Jahaza (talk) 10:15, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This uses a minus sign (U+2212, −, not the common hyphen-minus) in lieu of an en dash (–). Not a plausible search and will clutter search results. ComplexRational (talk) 12:39, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.

  • Keep per J947. Redirects from one type of short horizontal line to a different type of short horizontal line are almost always going to be useful search terms. Especially when they are former locations of the content. Thryduulf (talk) 15:58, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per J947, IAmChaos, and Thryduulf. This page was at that title for most of its history, so it is useful to avoid breaking links. Also, who cares which specific hyphen or dash we use as long as it gets to where readers are seeking? Regards, SONIC678 22:29, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cricket has been at the SA Games twice: 2010 and Cricket at the 2019 South Asian Games. Redirecting to the 2010 edition is therefore misleading, better to delete the redirect, and maybe in future, someone could create a general article at this title, if it meets WP:GNG. [edit]

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was retarget to 1966 in Japan. While the fate of other "Showa X" / "Shōwa X" redirects is beyond the formal scope of this RfD, I think WP:BOLD retargets would be likely noncontroversial for years after 1945; per IP61, the stated logic for this retarget does not necessarily apply for 1945 or prior, and a second RfD may be needed for those. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 04:18, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nominating this alongside Showa 41. Why would this be notable in Japanese? TraderCharlotte (talk) 03:29, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
